Enter The Underworld!
Nightmare releases another warped scream as several red orbs escape from it's body, and begin to fire needle like projectiles towards the Dex Holders and Dante. The Dex Holders and Dante seperate, dodging the incoming attack.
Dante takes out his two pistols, and begins to fire away at the floating orbs. Little by little, the orbs chip, and eventually become outright destroyed.
"Red, Blue, Green! Those stone tablets on the walls, activate them, quick!" Yelled Dante.
Nightmare shrieks again, and sends pieces of the green gel in the form of worms towards Red, Blue and Green respectively, and upon reaching them, the green gel pops, lifting up spikes of ice towards them.
"WOAH!" Yelled Red. He rolls near one of the stone tablets, and starts to slash it with his Keyblade. The stone tablet begins to ignite a blue flame everytime it's hit, when all the flames around the tablet are set, the tablet glows white with light.
Nightmare shrieks again, and slowly begins to spit out another orb from it's gel like body. Unlike the other orbs, this one is green in color, and not firing any projectiles.
"What is that?" Asked Blue.
"No doubt it's weakspot, I'll handle this." Said Green. He runs up to Nightmare, and narrowly avoids getting impaled by another strand of gel, with a sharp stone near the tip. Green runs on top of Nightmare's stone armor and begins to slash the green core repeatedly.
Nightmare once again begins to screech, this one sounding more pained than the previous ones. Nightmare proceeds to let loose more red orbs, which begin to fire upon Green.
"THUNDARA!" Yelled Blue. The tip of her staff glows yellow, and lightning bolts rain down upon the red orbs, destroying them. Green then proceeds to start slashing the green core once more, Nightmare once again screeching in pain.
Gel begins to stir beneath Green's feet, Green happens to notice this and jumps before the gel can grab a hold of him. The core sinks back into Nightmare's gel like body, and the markings on Nightmare's stone armor begins to glow red.
"What the hell?" Thought Dante to himself. "No, it can't be!"
The stone armor at the front of Nightmare is then lifted up, and it reveals what seems to be some type of cannon.
"Back away, now!" Yelled Dante.
Nightmare screeches as the cannon begins to fire a white beam towards it's intended targets. The beam manages to freeze over the walls as it crosses them. Blue and Green proceed to run away from the beam.
"Red, activate the stone tablet again, hurry!" Yelled Dante.
"Right!" Yelled Red. He begins to slash the stone tablet again, and once again activates it by hitting it enough time. The markings on Nightmare's stone armor stops glowing, and the beam stops firing. The green core, damaged from it's previous exposure once again reveals itself.
Dante then begins to brim with a red and black aura, and immediately jumps into the air. He draws his sword, which is then engulfed by the same colored aura, and drops down towards the exposed core. Dante slashes the core, and small bursts of dark energy erupt from beneath the ground, causing the exposed core to be blown into pieces.
Nightmare gives off a shrill shriek and begins to slump down. The numerous screams continue as the stone armor sinks back into Nightmare's gel like body. The gel is in the form of a large puddle, which continually shrinks down until it disappears out of sight.
"Had no idea that thing was capable of using Devil Trigger." Said Dante.
"Devil Trigger?" Asked Red. "What's that?"
"Well, if you really want to know, it is a special power possessed by demons and half breeds, which allows the individual to tap into their full supernatural potential. What you saw there was just a fraction of my power." Said Dante.
"Wait, you said Devil Trigger was a power possessed by demons." Said Green.
"And half breeds." Said Dante defensively.
"You're half demon?" Asked Blue.
Dante is silent for a few moments, before answering Blue's question with a nod.
"This explains how he has the ability to use Dark power so efficiently." Said Green.
"We've been working with a demon this whole time, I don't know whether or not to just gush in awe in how cool that is, or be a little terrified." Said Red.
"I'm not a full demon Red, pay attention." Said Dante.
"Regardless of what he is, he's proven himself to be a good guy, let's try not be so judgemental." Said Green.
"Alright." Said Red.
"Well, now that that's been taken care of." Said Dante. He turns his attention to the blue flames, which are then extinguished. The Philosopher's Egg has been transformed into some sort of gemstone with razor sharp edges. Dante grabs hold of it, and places it into his pocket.
"So, what do we need to do with that?" Asked Blue.
"There's a mirror we have to shine this on, once we do, we'll find our way to the Underworld." Said Dante. "Come on, we don't have much time to waste."
"Right." Said the three Dex Holders. Dante then nods his head and jumps back up the stairway, Red, Blue and Green following behind.
Meanwhile, back at the temple with the large statue of the angelic youth. Trish appears via a red portal and kneels down towards the statue.
"I take it that Nightmare has failed to guard the Elixer." Called out Mundus' voice.
"Yes, it seems that both the Keyblade Master and Son of Sparda are stronger than we had anticipated. However, there might still be a chance to destroy both of them." Said Trish.
"I'm listening." Called out Mundus' voice.
"Nightmare survived the encounter with both the Keyblade Master and Son of Sparda. I'll lure them into one of the darker reaches of the Underworld, and then I'll give Nightmare the upper hand by taking them all by surprise." Said Trish.
"Very well." Called out Mundus' voice. "Just see to it that it's done, you know the price for failure."
"Yes my master." Said Trish. She get's back on her feet and exits via another red portal.
"If she were to fail, that's where I'll come to play." Called out Mundus' voice again. "Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha."
Meanwhile back at both Dante and the Dex Holders, they are shown fighting off a group of Heartless resembling lizards wearing armor. One of the armored lizard Heartless aims it's sword arm towards Red, and proceeds to fire the sword towards him. Red deflects the sword with his Keyblade and proceeds to jump into the air, coming down and bisecting the armored lizard Heartless. The Heartless dissolves into black smoke, and releases a heart into the air.
"BLIZZARA!" Yelled Blue. The tip of her staff turns blue in color, and fires a series of blue energy orbs. The orbs circle around three of the armored lizard Heartless and freeze them solid.
Green wastes no time in coming in and slashing the frozen lizard Heartless, disposing of them as well.
As soon as that group of Heartless is disposed of, a group of about 4 puppet Heartless drop from the cieling and rise up, drawing their weapons against them. Black will o wisps follow behind the puppet Heartless, turning into the Gargoyle Heartless.
"Sheesh, these guys don't know when to quit, do they!?" Yelled Dante, who begins to fire his two pistols towards them. The puppet Heartless are devastated by the oncoming onslaught of bullets, while the 3 Gargoyle Heartless simply turn back into will o wisps.
Red comes in and proceeds to slash the puppet Heartless, causing them to crash backwards into a nearby wall. Green proceeds to do the same thing, causing two of the puppet Heartless to crash into the ground. Blue then proceeds to cast Fira on the puppet Heartless, disposing of them.
The three Gargoyle Heartless revert back into their original forms and start to sweep their legs behind an oblivious Blue. Blue get's knocked on her face and immediately casts Thundara, disposing of two of the Gargoyle Heartless.
Dante draws his sword, and cuts the last Gargoyle Heartless in half, disposing of it.
"Well, that's taken care of." Said Red.
"We're obviously getting close to the mirror, that's the only reason why the Heartless are becoming more agressive." Said Red.
"Well then, I'll gladly cut more of them down if it means getting the job done quicker." Said Dante.
Dante then proceeds to kick a door open, and draws his guns. He points around, checking to see if the coast is clear. It is, and the 4 enter the room. The room resembles that of a bed chamber, the bed itself adorned with green fabrics. There is an old fashioned drawer, for storing clothes, and near the right edge of the room is a large, rectangular mirror with a black holder.
"Is that the mirror we're looking for?" Asked Red.
"Correct, good sir." Said Dante. He reaches into his pocket, and pulls out the Elixer. The Elixer shines brightly, and the mirror begins to shine with a bright white light. The Elixer disappears, and the image in the mirror is shown to be some stone arena with what looks to be a black hole surging with red energy in the background.
"Is that the Underworld right there?" Asked Green.
"Seems like it." Said Dante. "Everyone stay behind me, who knows what monstrosity is waiting to ambush us once we get in there."
"Alright." Said Green.
Dante then proceeds to walk into the mirror, the mirror ripples like water as Dante touches it, and stops rippling once Dante has completely entered it. Red, Blue, and Green soon enter afterwards.
On the otherside of the mirror, we see Dante inspecting the area for any surprise visitors, Red, Blue and Green enter through the mirror, and drop down to the ground. They too begin to look around, albeit more out of curiosity then vigilance.
"So, this is what Hell looks like." Said Green. "This whole place is making me feel more uneasy than the castle was."
"No doubt we'll be encountering a lot of resistance here." Said Red. "We need to stay vigilant, don't let our guards down for a second."
"Dante, you mentioned that you've been here before, right?" Asked Blue.
"Yeah, but this seems different from what I remember." Said Dante. "Just stay behind me at all times, OK?"
"Lead the way." Said Green.
Dante proceeds to look around again, and see's no place to walk to, he then proceeds to look at the black hole in the background. He proceeds to run towards it, and jumps in. The black hole sparks with energy.
The Dex Holders just look at each other and nod, and proceed to run into the black hole as well. The black hole sparks as they enter.
We cut to another area, which is seen as an organic, fleshy interior which pulsates as if it were alive. Sparks of electricity cackle in the air, and Dante drops down from the cieling. Sparks of electricity flicker again, and the three Dex Holders fall behind him.
"How many layers do you suppose this place has?" Asked Red.
"This might be the main passageway." Said Dante. Dante looks around, and spots something.
In the distance, we see Nightmare crawling slowly at the end of the hallway, in its gel like body, we see an unconcious Trish being held prisoner.
"Trish!" Yelled Dante, he runs foreward, only to be cut off by a lone ice shard. Dante looks up and sees another type of Heartless that looks like the same armored lizard variant seen earlier, only this one is brimming with cold mist, and has icicles covering it's tail.
"Company." Said Dante.
He draws his pistols and begins to shoot, the ice lizard Heartless jumping down avoiding all the bullets. The ice lizard Heartless slams it's fist into the ground, causing ice shards to rise out of the ground towards the group.
"FIRA!" Yelled Blue. The tip of her staff turns red, and proceeds to fire two fireballs towards the ice lizard Heartless. The two fireballs merge into a bigger fireball and make impact with the ice lizard Heartless.
BOOM!
"Direct hit!" Yelled Blue.
The ice lizard Heartless jumps out of the blast zone and clings to the cieling. It aims it's ice sword arm towards Blue, and fires a razor sharp icicle towards her.
Green intersects and slashes the icicle, breaking it. Red proceeds to throw his Keyblade at the ice lizard Heartless and knocks it off the cieling.
Dante rushes towards the ice lizard Heartless and begins to slash the ever living crap out of it. Dante jumps into the air and slams the sword on the ice lizard Heartless' head. The sword manages to break the Heartless' helmet, which manages to make the Heartless angry.
Dante jumps out of the way of another incoming Fira spell, which again hits the ice lizard Heartless directly, more parts of it's armor falling off from the explosion. The ice lizard Heartless begins to shroud it's body in mist, and then proceeds to spread it out in a burst of blue energy. The sorrounding area is then frozen in ice.
Red and Green jump in and attempt to slash the ice lizard Heartless with their consecutive weapons, only for it to jump back, avoiding the attack.
"Man that Heartless is fast!" Said Red.
"It's charging up that burst attack again, back up!" Yelled Green.
The two jump back, narrowly avoiding being encompassed in ice.
The ice lizard Heartless gives out a small roar as it once again jumps and clings to the cieling.
Dante aims his two pistols again, but this time fires in the opposite direction of where the ice lizard Heartless is.
"What are you doing?" Asked Blue.
"Trust me!" Yelled Dante.
The ice lizard Heartless takes out another icicle and aims it towards Dante, and proceeds to fire. Dante jumps up into the air, proceeding to do a backflip. When he faces the ice lizard Heartless again, he fires his two pistols rapidly, causing the remaining armor on the ice lizard Heartless to fall off. The ice lizard falls down towards the ground again. Red and Green run towards the Heartless and proceed to slash it with their consecutive blades simutaneously.
The ice lizard Heartless gives out a small roar as it falls backwards. A white hole opens up in it's chest, and it releases a heart into the air. The Heartless is then engulfed in light, disappearing as the light dies down.
"Sheesh, glad that's over, that Heartless was tough." Said Red.
"Tell me about it, it took two Fira spells to the face without even flinching once." Said Blue.
"It's gone now, that's what matters. Now come on, we have to hurry." Said Dante.
"What happened?" Asked Green.
"I saw our slimy friend at the end of the hallway holding Trish prisoner, we have to save her." Said Dante. "Come on!"
Dante proceeds to run down the pulsating halls, the Dex Holders running behind him, the 4 make an immediate left turn, and find a pulsating red wall. Dante wastes no time in taking out his sword and slashing it open. On the other side of the wall is a large purple circle of dark energy.
"They must of gone down here." Said Dante. Dante proceeds to walk into the glowing circle, and immediately sinks in.
"I don't know about this guys, this stuff doesn't seem to be entirely safe." Said Blue.
"Nothing in this place seems all to welcoming when you think about it." Said Green. "Granted, we are essentially in Hell."
The circle of dark energy begins to shrink.
"It's now or never." Said Red.
"Come on, we've already been through two portals, what's the worst this one can do?" Asked Green.
Red and Green walk into the circle, and sink into it as well.
"Sigh, I swear boys and men can be so stubborn." Said Blue. She walks in and sinks into the circle of dark energy too.
The three Dex Holders fall into a large circular room, cave like in nature, the circle of dark energy closes above them, leaving them trapped in here.
"Trish!" Yelled Dante.
Trish is seen on the ground, unconcious, the sound of Dante's voice causes her to wake up and look towards Dante's direction. "Dante!"
Dante begins to run towards her, only for a wall of a strange blue energy to activate in front of him.
The Dex Holders look around, and see that the entire room is covered in blue enegy.
"What is this?" Asked Red.
Green looks to the ground, and sees an all to familiar puddle of green gel like substance forming itself.
"An ambush!" Yelled Green.
Slowly but surely Nightmare forms itself again, and gives off a shrill shriek up it's arrival.
"This thing again?" Yelled Dante. "But we destroyed it!"
Suddenly from behind, Dante is struck by yellow bolts of lightning.
"That's where you're wrong, son of Sparda." Said Trish.
"What? Trish, you..." Began Dante.
"Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha. You're so gullible. I hope you like the scenery Dante, because this is where you'll be put to rest! The same goes for the Keyblade Master and company." Said Trish. "Everything has gone according to master Mundus' plan."
"Mundus?" Asked Red.
"No doubt the main demon in charge." Said Green.
"You're correct. Not like it matters, you'll never get to see him. Now then, it's time for you all to see what a true demon is capable of!" Said Trish. She once again spews bolts of lightning from her hands, only this time she aims it towards Nightmare. The markings on Nightmare's stone armor glows red as it's entire body sparks with electricity. Nightmare gives off a shrill scream as it spews out several red orbs.
Comments: Well, this has been a mad turn of events, Trish has finally shown her true colors, and has now powered up Nightmare, making him stronger. How will the Dex Holders and Dante get out of this fine mess? We'll just have to keep reading and find out. Thank you so much for reading this chapter, I hope you enjoyed it.
