A/N: I am so sorry for being such a lazy ass for not updating in so long until now, let alone that this is a very short chapter. And, I mean really short, like really short. It' t! but, at least I updated. don't worry, I have another chapter to post soon.
Chapter 35:
Audrey Mendler
He freaked out. At first, Audrey thought that she could finally wake up, but watching herself from a chair in a distance made it seem like she wasn't going to anytime soon. It was just a scare.
She felt like a ghost. It felt as if she was just lifted from her own body, like a caterpillar unraveling from its cocoon. Somewhat, like incarnation. The moment she laid down on that hospital bed, her eyes opened, but from a different perspective, which actually made her feel like she was dead. But really, it was just a coma. Thus technically, she heard everything Liam said.
Now, she is just sitting at her usual chair that stood in a small corner, watching Liam and Mason engrossed on her own pale features, well at least the features of the body on the bed. As usual, she's currently not in existence. Oh, wake up, Audrey, she thought.
"Do you even know how she got like this?" Mason asked. Audrey cocked an eyebrow, pegging on Liam's hesitant answer. She watched him tense up a bit, but remained noble. Liam shook his head, "Uh, no. I don't."
"Then how did you even find out about this?"
"Mr. Argent called me."
"Oh."
Mason continued to look back at Audrey's almost-porcelain body and just stared in content. Liam had done the same with contemplation set on his mind for what seems like an eternity. She watched him close his eyes as he regretted every bit of temper he spat on Mason. They both knew Mason didn't do anything wrong to be in this position. Heck, he didn't know anything at all but still managed to spiral all the way here. Audrey felt bad for him.
Suddenly, Mason rose and took Audrey's hand, rubbing it with his thumb in soft comfort. Audrey could definitely feel his warmly presence at her palm even though she was at two different locations. Maybe it was like a chain reaction, where one acts onto one thing and that one thing then acts onto another. Mason then let go, leaving Audrey cold once again. He stood up and just left, murmuring, "I'm gonna go get something in the cafeteria and then I'm out."
Liam rose and trailed behind him, "I'll come with you."
"Maybe after five minutes." Mason replied with a little annoyance hinted in his voice.
Just then, someone appeared at the doorway with his arms crossed. Derek. "I think he should go with you now." He said lowly.
Even though Mason had weird feelings towards Derek, he still obeyed him like he was his king. It was probably the fact that Derek could be so intimidating that lasted to no end that made him do what he says. Mason nodded and beckoned Liam out. Finally, it was just Audrey and Derek, alone again.
Audrey watched him slowly sit down onto the chair that was on the right side of the bed. Her fists wouldn't stop clenching at the handles of her chair. It may have been a day not seeing him, but to her gut, it felt like a year. She tried not to cry as she watched his head sink to his hands. Audrey then heard something so unfamiliar to her ears, something that she never thought she would hear in a lifetime. Derek was crying.
"No, Derek..." She croaked.
She listened to him sob more than ever. She heard him speak murmurings that were inaudibly enough for her to hear. "I'm sorry.." He kept repeating. Audrey just shook her head.
"It's not your fault." She whispered. Audrey rose from her seat and slowly stalked towards Derek. She placed a hand on his back for support, but of course he never felt it. It was like Audrey was invisible. Does she know how long she is going to stay like this? No, not really.
Derek suddenly got up from his chair and rushed out of the room, wiping away his tears. Audrey just pouted and sat on his seat with her arms crossed.
"Who do you choose?" A familiar voice asked from behind.
Audrey turned around, surprised by who she was seeing– her dad. She cracked a smile and got up, hugging him tight, glad that she could actually feel his body and that he could her. She sobbed, "Dad!"
"I missed you," he soothed, "but sweetheart, who do you choose?"
"What do you mean?"
"You know who I'm talking about," He pressed on, "Liam or Derek?"
Audrey's eyes grew sullen, "I don't know."
Mr. Mendler nodded nonchalantly and continued to rub Audrey's back with soothing circles. He swayed her back and forth, just like old times, or from what her mind told her. He spoke once again, "You're not dead, you know."
"I'm not?"
"No, you're just in a coma phase," He replied, "I, on the other hand, am really dead. But now, since you're back on the scale between life and death, I have an offer. Do you want to remember all the memories of Audrey Lancaster?"
Audrey froze for a split second, correcting herself if she heard that wrong. Open up all the memories of her past life? Was that even possible?
"I'm not gonna remember them if I wake up, aren't I though?" Audrey asked.
Mr. Mendler shook his head and took her hand, "Come on, daughter. It will help you in the future."
Audrey pursed her lips, but relentlessly gave in. If it would benefit her to get rid of this whole mess of the supernatural, then she may as well unlock herself to a new adventure.
