Sly Cooper and the Gang in: Of Mice and Mechs

(Man somebody stop me, I don't know what I'm doing. Oh well... enjoy!...maybe...)

Mercury:"Never again am I going to put on anything Bentley created."

Mercury shivered at the thought of having to use his costume again. They left Galleth at the Gang's Hideout, now going for some suspicious activities, picked up by one of Bentley's many gadgets.

Sly:"I thought it looked great on you."

Sly gave him an innocent grin, playing off his slight blush. Mercury just frowned slightly at him, starting to climb the castle tower. Sly climbed up behind him, looking for Mercury. He sat at the edge, crouching down as he watched the castle door. Sly went next to him, looking down at the door himself. It slowly opened, revealing the Black Knight they have heard so much about.

Mercury:"Let's move lower!"

They went down a bit, getting a closer view at how the Black Knight left the castle.

Bentley:"Guys! It appears the Black Knight has a patrol moving an object in a locked case through the town. From the level of security, I bet the farm it's Galleth's cane!"

Sly:"You have a farm?"

Bentley:"Just get over there! If what Galleth says it's true, the Black Knight almost never leaves his castle. And when he does, it's only to briefly visit the Blacksmith Shop. This may be the one opportunity we have to steal the cane back!"

Sly:"Okay, time to join the parade."

Bentley:"Sly, before you make a move, get some pictures of the Black Knight and that case. We need to find out who and what we're dealing with."

Mercury and Sly waited for the Black Knight to walk past them, followed by the case and two guards patrolling behind it.

Bentley:"Oh an make sure your shot of the Black Knight is from the front! I want a closer look at his armor."

Mercury:"Couldn't you have mentioned that two seconds earlier?"

Mercury sneaked through the nearby street, waiting for the Black Knight to turn around the corner. Getting a full armor shot of him, he went back to Sly. Sneaking up on the guard he took one out, hiding before the Black Knight or the other patrol notice anything happened. As the other Robotic Guard checked the scraps left by the other one, it got nervous and tried running back for the case. Before it could, right as it turned the corner it got knocked out, the last thing it notices being a cane and leg in his face. The Black Knight was extremely cautious now, checking every now and then, that no one is messing with the locked case. Sly got a quick shot of the lock on the case, sending it to Bentley.

Sly:"Think you can get it open?"

Bentley:"Very nice Sly, I could crack that thing with my eyes closed!"

Mercury sneaked up to the case, taking careful steps. Sensing the Black Knight turning to look around, he quickly hid behind the case, hoping he wouldn't notice.

The Black Knight:"After I crush the Cooper Gang, I'll put them all in the circus. Maybe even shrink that van of theirs down and turn it into a clown car! How fun!"

Once he turned around again, Mercury let go of the case and used the keyboard to grant Bentley access to the lock.

Bentley:"Time to crack that case!"

Mercury was slightly anxious, standing this close to the Black Knight, especially when he held such a big ax. He looked at Bentley's progress, seeing he is almost complete. Mercury waved Sly over, gesturing him to come get the cane.

Bentley:"Guys, I'm through. The case should now be unlocked!"

As mentioned by Bentley, the case opened up. Sly grabbed the cane out of it, giving each other a triumphant smile. Without any warning though, the case shut off completely, smashing to the ground, making an awfully amount of noise. Their gaze went from the case on the ground to the Black Knight, both slightly terrified. The Black Knight looked at both of them for one moment, noticing the cane in Sly's hand.

The Black Knight:"I knew it, Cooper! And you, too!"

The Black Knight pulled out a small device. Sly and Mercury thought he was about to cast a volley of rockets upon them, starting to run for their lives.

The Black Knight:"You aren't running from me. You can't."

The Black Knight pushed a button on his small remote. At first everything seemed fine, as they simply waited for anything to happen. Out of nowhere, Mercury fell to the ground cringing in awful pain. Sly stopped, kneeling beside him, trying to pick him up. Mercury could only scream, immense pain shot through every fiber of his body. Sly watched the Black Knight approach slowly, to him and the cowering Mercury. Glancing at each other for a moment, Mercury pushed Sly, with the strength he had left.

Mercury:"You can't take him head on and we can't allow him to get the cane! Sly, leave and get the cane to Galleth!"

Trembling himself, Sly got back to his feet, running as fast as he could. He looked from back from a distance, seeing the Black Knight pick up Mercury, taking him back into the castle.

The Black Knight:"No matter, as long as I got one, more will follow..."

Mercury's vision went blurry, as he passed out from the ongoing pain. The last thing he saw was the bridge being pulled up, blocking any further entry.

Sly:"What are we going to do?! What are we going to do! I had no idea what happened, no idea what was wrong. He just fell and started screaming. I wanted to pick him up, but he was shaking far too much. The Black Knight has got him, he took him into the castle."

Sly sat on a chair, shivering as he looked at the others for an answer. Murray placed a hand on his shoulder, trying to calm the raccoon down. Bentley was anxious, scanning every inch of the castle for any sign of Mercury. Carmelita looked out the window, biting her lip to keep her from running straight for the castle, with the urge to get him out.

Bentley:"I don't understand, you mentioned, that he clearly recognized you and Mercury? How could the Black Knight know."

Sly looked at him as clueless as Bentley was himself. Sir Galleth, having his cane back inspected it, taking a closer look. Looking around at the gang, which wanted to help him, he harshly put one foot on the table.

Sir Galleth:"Thee shalt not fear! Methinks that your friend was taken to the dungeon, in which myself had to spend enough time, to know his way out!"

Bentley:"Not again... Sir Galleth, we can't risk getting caught. We will have to think of something else than charging in head first!"

Sir Galleth:"My... Sir Bentley. Who said something about 'charging in head first'."

Sir Galleth got a questioning look, also catching the other's attention.

Mercury's eyes opened slowly, a weird sensation in his back causing him to wake up. The pain has stopped, but there was this new tingling feeling in his back. Mercury was strapped to a wooden operating table, his legs and arms bound up. All he could see was a shadow, working with instruments on him.

Mercury:"Whatever you're doing, you should stop, before I am going to tear you apart."

The shadow moved slightly, but kept working as if Mercury wasn't aware of anything. He could at least tell, that it wasn't the Black Knight himself. It was a smaller figure, almost working on him in delight, which was made obvious by it's tail wiggling.

Mercury:"What are you doing to me?!"

Regaining some feeling in his back, he could feel a lot of cold spots. He couldn't exactly tell what it was though, only that whatever it was, a new one was pressed in at the very bottom of his spine. Mercury wished he wasn't awake, since that had to be the weirdest feeling he ever had to endure. Even though he clearly was on whatever this medieval 'doctor' was using, the pain came through the numbness. He got slightly hysterical, especially, since this guy didn't answer.

Mercury:"Where is this place?"

The shadow jumped off it's little stool, vanishing from Mercury's field of view. Trying to break his restraints, he gave it all his might. But it was no use, whatever they dosed him up with, took all of his energy. Mercury's ears could pick up a loud thump, followed by several more. One could only guess who was about to show up.

The Black Knight:"Well look who is wide awake. Once you're done, you'll fit in perfectly into my army."

Mercury could only see the shadow of the Black Knight, wondering what he was talking about.

Mercury:"What are you doing to me?"

The Black Knight took a few steps closer, taking off the restraint, which kept his head locked to the desk.

The Black Knight:"I'm not doing anything. You are. If you tell me where your 'gang' is hiding, I promise to set you free. After they are dealt with of course."

Mercury looked at the mechanical eyes of the Black Knight, glaring at them with a frown.

Mercury:"What makes you think I would sell them out?"

The Black Knight stood there for a moment, emitting a robotic sigh, petting Mercury on his shoulder.

The Black Knight:"Then I guess I'll have to ask you again, once you are no longer you."

The Black Knight walked off, Mercury looking after him every step he took. Mercury tried the restraints again, but he just didn't have enough strength, neither could he reach the restraints on his arm with his mouth. Mercury stopped, trying to think of a proper plan. The sound of the door creaking, as somebody must have entered, caught his attention. Slowly walking around the corner came... Penelope!

Mercury:"Penelope! You're...! Wha... We've been so worried!"

Penelope quickened her pace, slightly embracing Mercury. He looked her over, still not believing his eyes.

Penelope:"He said I don't have much time, I just wanted to make sure you are okay. I heard that he caught one of the Cooper gang, I never imagined you would be here with them! I can't believe it."

Penelope looked over Mercury's back, her gaze going back to his eyes.

Mercury:"I don't like that expression. What have they done? Am I still going to be pretty after this?"

Penelope:"I didn't catch that much of what their plan is. But he mentioned, that soon you won't make anymore problems. I saw an exoskeleton, Mercury. I think he just took the next step, putting some sort of connection for neurotransmitters near your spine."

Penelope traced over the metal, giving him a concerned look. Mercury was slightly distressed by her answer, a drop of sweat going over his face.

Mercury:"Have you tried to flee? Can we get out, if you would remove my restraints?"

Penelope shock her head.

Penelope:"It's no use, no one escapes the Black Knight. He is in front of the door right now, surely. Let's hope he didn't hear that, otherwise we might get in trouble. But maybe you could tell me where the others are, I can try to use one of the Black Knights blimps to get a message to Bentley. He will come up with an escape plan."

Mercury:"Didn't you just say he is right in front of the door? He might hear us. I can't."

Penelope took a step back, looking at Mercury.

Penelope:"Don't worry, I'm sure he can't hear us that clearly. Tell me where they are. We both want to escape, right?"

Mercury was unsure of what to do. Sure he wanted to escape, but not if that meant that his friends get caught. Mercury looked at Penelope, taking another step back, giving him more arguments. Mercury felt weird, probably a side effect of the drugs. He couldn't hear Penelope at all, as she stood there, her silhouette lit up by a nearby torch. Penelope herself seemed very anxious herself, her tail wiggling in motion with her hand gestures. Mercury blinked a few times, not sure he is seeing clearly.

Mercury:"Penelope... I... Are you-?"

A very loud alarm noise caught both of them off guard, a red light making the obvious more notable. Something is happening inside the castle. Penelope turned, looking at the bright red light. She moved over to Mercury, putting his head back down, fastening the restraint once more.

Penelope:"I'm sorry, I gotta go. He might get mad, if I stay any longer."

Mercury felt the harsh restraint, putting his face against the table. Once Penelope was gone, he let out a loud sigh.

-Several minutes ago-

Sly:"What is your plan Galleth?"

Sir Galleth:"If thine friend is in the dungeon of said castle, myself wilt find him through this tunnel."

Sir Galleth pulled away something covering a hole in the ground.

Sir Galleth:"It shalt lead me to thine friend in haste. Once found we shalt come back through this tunnel."

Sly:"How come that there is just a random tunnel here?"

Sir Galleth:"When I was captured, I dug and dug, until myself could feelest the air of outside. Sadly it wasn't long for my escape, as these 'Robots' got hold of me."

Sir Galleth prepared to get through the tunnel, looking at Sly as he remembered one last thing.

Sir Galleth:"Mebelieves that assistance in form of distraction at thee bridge might be needed."

Sly:"We'll work on it, just be careful."

Sir Galleth descended into the tunnel he dug. While going through he heard the sound of an alarm going off, as he finally ascended to his cell. Pulling himself up into it, he looked around. Since the cell was empty, the guards saw no need to lock it down, allowing Galleth to sneak through the corridors. As he couldn't find him anywhere in the cell wing, he thought where else they might have kept him. Storming off, down the corridor and up the stairs, he almost ran into the Black Knight himself.

The Black Knight:"Let's see what this commotion is about and maybe then, I can get the information out of Mercury in peace."

Sir Galleth concluded, that the Black Knight must have just come from where Mercury is kept. He sprinted for the end of the corridor the Black Knight came from, coming across a big wooden door. Opening it slowly, making a loud creaking noise, he went in.

Sir Galleth:"Ehm... Sir Mercury?"

Sir Galleth picked up a slight wince of pain, gulping as he stopped for a moment. The torches lit up the place, still the room managed to give the vibe of a sinister, dark room. Sir Galleth turned around a corner, his eyes widening, as he saw Mercury strapped on a table. Mercury seemed out of it, mumbling to himself.

Sir Galleth:"Sir... Mercury?"

Sir Galleth approached him cautiously, one step at a time.

Mercury:"e... ado..."

Sir Galleth saw the weird metal parts, covering his spine.

Sir Galleth:"What was that?"

Mercury:"It's.. he... hado..."

Sir Galleth couldn't believe his eyes, wondering what the Black Knight had done to him. He removed Mercury's restraints, helping him up into a sitting position.

Sir Galleth:"Alright, Sir Mercury, it is time that we make our escape!"

Sir Galleth tried not being too loud, in case some Guards patrolled the outside. Sir Galleth put Mercury on his feet, but he fell to his knees right away, wincing in pain, nearly screaming loudly.

Mercury:"Oh my... Argh!"

Mercury felt like his head was spinning and he would throw up any second now. Sir Galleth looked at his back, concerned, that he would have to carry him out of the castle itself.

Sir Galleth:"There is an escape waiting for us, Sir Mercury. Can thou walk?"

Mercury:"I will try, just moving feels weird right now."

Mercury felt over the places he could reach with his hand, tingling at the touch. Sir Galleth was at a new level of unease at the moment, thinking about what to do. Sir Galleth got a hold of one of the parts, trying to pull on it. Mercury grabbed his hand, stopping any further motion.

Sir Galleth:"Methinks this is a bad idea, Sir Mercury. Leaving them inside."

Mercury looked at him with worried eyes, a tear running down his face.

Mercury:"I don't know how they are connected exactly. Pulling them out, could mean you would have to carry me, Galleth."

Sir Galleth looked at him, surely he didn't want to risk having to carry him all the way out. But who know what might happen, if they did nothing on the matter. With guards going around he surely won't be able to carry him, so he loosened his grip on the metal.

Mercury:"I need Bentley to take a look. Just please help me up, I got it from there."

Sir Galleth was concerned, but listened to him, pulling him to his feet. Twitching in pain, Mercury tried to remain silent, only a slight wincing leaving his mouth. Sir Galleth watched the struggling raccoon. Mercury waved him to move, gesturing he is fine. Sir Galleth went on, waiting at the big wooden door. Mercury took a quick look around the room, seeing the table with operation instruments. Sir Galleth whispered to Mercury, who came creeping around the corner slowly.

Sir Galleth:"Now for our great escape."

They left the room through the creaking door, making their way for the dungeon area. To their dismay, the way was blocked by several Guards. Sir Galleth and Mercury hid away behind some barrels, as they turned to walk down the corridor. Sir Galleth noticed several spots of blood covering the floor. He looked at Mercury's back, which started leaving small poodles of blood, as it went down his fur. Hoping the guards wouldn't notice the trail, they kept their heads low.

Sir Galleth:"Sir Mercury, thou are bleeding tremendously. We shalt take break."

Mercury:"We can't. The longer we are in here, the more we risk getting caught by the Black Knight. And what about the others? We should make sure they are safe."

Sir Galleth:"Let us not get ahead of ourselves. The 'gang' caused the alarm, and methinks they are safe, just hiding."

Mercury nodded, the both of them returning on their way to the dungeon. There was no way though, that they can take the normal way back, there were too many Guards patrolling right now. They sneaked through several rooms, always making sure to check for Guards. They came close to the stairs, as the all to familiar thumping noise caught their attention.

Mercury turned, to see the Black Knight come around the far corner of the corridor. They once again hid away behind a bunch of barrels, hoping he wouldn't see them. He came closer, as the thumping made evident. The two of them nearly freaking out, as he stopped, looking at the ground. The Black Knight noticed the blood. Mercury and Sir Galleth exchanging concerned looks, as the Black Knight pulled out a small device. Mercury feared it may be whatever he used last time, but it seemed to be something different.

Daring to get a better look, he held himself close to the barrel and looked over the top. It took a moment, but the Black Knight turned, looked around, noticing the barrels they were hiding behind. The loud thumping came closer, almost as if he knew exactly where to look. The Black Knight put his hand on one barrel, putting his head over to look on the other side. Nothing.

The Black Knight:"Huh."

The two raccoons couldn't believe their luck, as the Black Knight approached, they opened a hatch to a basement, used for storing food. They took some deep breaths, trying to calm down.

Mercury:"He knew..."

Sir Galleth turned to look at Mercury, listening to his whisper.

Mercury:"Galleth... he knew that we were there."

Sir Galleth:"What makes thee believe that?"

Mercury trailed over his back, feeling the blood in his fur, as he reached his shoulder.

Mercury:"It wasn't just the blood. What the Black Knight was holding, was a tracking device. It's used to sense any nearby transmitter."

Mercury kept trailing over his shoulder.

Sir Galleth:"But where is this 'transmitter'?"

Mercury stopped his movement, gulping as he looked over to Galleth.

Mercury:"There's one inside of me."

Mercury looked at Galleth in horror. The Black Knight had this all planned, knowing they would come to rescue him. Once he met up with them, he would use the transmitter to find the whole gang.

Mercury:"Galleth I.. I'll need you to... Galleth you have to get it out."

Sir Galleth:"Mine self thinks he can't do that, Sir Mercury. Thou said it is a bad idea to mess around with the metal, especially without Sir Bentley's advice."

Mercury:"Galleth we won't even get to Bentley, if we don't get rid of it. I would do it myself, but I can feel it just beneath my shoulder. There is no way I can reach it."

Sir Galleth took a step back, unsure if he was able to do this. Mercury pulled out a scalpel, looking at him expectantly, holding it over to him.

Mercury:"Please. If we want to get out, you have to, Galleth!"

Mercury's eyes wandered over Galleth, sighing as he moved over to him. Mercury put the scalpel into his hand, closing it.

Mercury:"Don't worry, there's nothing that can go wrong."

Sir Galleth gulped, seeing Mercury kneeling down, presenting his back to him.

Mercury:"Just go really slow, it's below my shoulder... I can feel it."

Sir Galleth watched Mercury move his shoulder around, looking back at him with a reassuring nod. Breathing very slowly, Sir Galleth moved over, bowing down towards him. Sir Galleth couldn't keep his hand still, as it kept hovering over his shoulder. Mercury literally saw the pressure that was put on Galleth. Mercury touched his hand, holding it for a moment to look at him. Mercury smiled at the gallant Knight, waiting for the shivering to stop.

Once Mercury let go it seamed so easy, the shivering stopped, Galleth placed his other hand on the other shoulder. Galleth could feel the other raccoon starting to breath a little bit heavier, as he placed the scalpel on his skin. Not wanting to prolong the suspense, he made it in one quick cut. Mercury had to muffle his scream, but remained seated in front of Galleth. Galleth took a closer look, seeing a small metal object lodged in the open cut. Hesitating, he put the scalpel behind it, grasping the front with his thumb. Mercury could feel Galleth's grip on the chip, also feeling a few drops of blood, running down in his fur.

Sir Galleth started pulling, nearly stopping, as Mercury couldn't contain his wince of pain. Once he pulled it out though, Mercury dropped, falling over and started breathing heavily.

Mercury:"Thank you..."

Sir Galleth looked at the chip in his hand, seeing Mercury stand up and come over. He handed both over to Mercury, as he inspected the chip. Mercury tucked the scalpel away.

Mercury:"He won't find us anymore, let's go."

With the chip still intact, Mercury threw it in the corner of the room. They left through the hatch, finally going for the dungeon cell Galleth was kept in earlier. Sir Galleth showed Mercury the tunnel, gesturing him to go ahead. Mercury slowly went down into the tunnel, looking at Galleth with a smile for a moment.

Mercury:"Thank you Galleth, you saved me from a fate worse than death."

Sir Galleth:"Whatever suits thee the most. I could not leave a friend of Sly behind, even if he proves to be a witch."

Mercury rolled his eyes, smiling as he went down completely. Galleth was left with a slight blush, slowly descending after him.
