Mark was sleeping when Lexie entered the room. She kissed him on the lips, and he woke up. She whispered, "Hi, sleeping beauty."

"And you're Princess Charming?"

"Yes, I'm Princess Charming, and I'm waking you up so we can have some fun before you go to work."

Mark smiled. "Aren't you tired after being on-call last night?"

"It was pretty quiet, actually. I had an opportunity for a nap. I wanted to have some energy when I got home and before you left for work."

"That's great. I got some good news last night."

"Really? What?"

"Derek's marrying your sister, and we're invited to watch on video."

"Video?"

"Yeah. I called Derek to see if we could come, but he said that if he let me come, he'd have to let his four sisters come, and they're keeping the wedding very small to protect Chrissy. She's doing well, and they're probably going to do the bone marrow transplant in a week or so."

Lexie thought for a minute. "What about my mom and dad?"

"They can watch on video like us. Derek's going to talk to your dad today."

"But he loved giving Molly away."

"I know. And Meredith knows that, too. Derek told me that Molly was her patient, and your folks didn't tell Molly about Meredith. But Molly told her about her dad walking her down the aisle and crying because he was so moved."

"Yeah, he was so excited about his little girl getting married. And he's very happy that we're getting married. He's looking forward to walking me down the aisle at our wedding this February."

"I know."

"So he might be hurt if he's not invited to Meredith's wedding."

"Lexie, you are such a caring person, and you love your dad. But it's as if your dad and Meredith's dad are completely different persons. You and Molly had a great dad who deserved the honor of walking his daughter down the aisle. Meredith had a dad who abandoned her at age 5."

"I know, but still . . . "

"It's not your fault," assured Mark, interrupting her. "You can be Meredith's sister, if you want, but you can't do anything about your father's relationship with Meredith. That's up to him, not you."

"But it's mean not to even invite him to her wedding," protested Lexie.

"Lexie, as far as I know, he hasn't initiated any communication with her since she was five. For more than a month, he's known her daughter has leukemia, and he's done nothing to help."

"My mom has helped, and she's not being invited either."

"You can't invite the wife and not invite the husband. You know that. It's a tough situation, but it's your dad's fault. And, it's not your business. When it comes to your parents and Meredith, you have to be neutral and focus just on your own relationships."

"But I love my dad."

"You should love him. He's been a great father to you. Focus on that when you think of your dad. Your relationship with Meredith is a separate matter."

"It just seems weird since we have the same dad."

"You're right. It's weird. But it is what it is. And anyway, I thought you had a better idea for how to spend the morning."

"I did, but now I'm thinking about the wedding and my dad. He may be a lousy dad for Meredith, but to not even be invited to your kid's wedding, that's tough."

"It's not a normal wedding. Derek's not inviting his four sisters, not to mention their spouses and their children. And Derek is close to his sisters. He walked three of them down the aisle because he's the only man in the family. I'm sure they'd love to be there, just like me. But Chrissy's health comes first. They are being careful to make sure that a three year old with leukemia is not being exposed to infection."

"Still, Derek's mom is going to be there. It's more than just Meredith, Derek, and Chrissy."

"Lexie, sweetheart, it's up to Meredith and Derek, not us."

"I have an idea. How about we go out to watch the wedding with my folks? That would make it more of a special event."

"I thought I'd have my nephews come over and watch with us."

"How about you fly out with the Saturday, take Derek out for his bachelor's party Saturday night and fly back for the party with the boys? Then I'll go out with Meredith for her bachelorette party and the next day watch the wedding with my folks?"

"Aren't you on call Sunday?"

"I'll switch days. No problem when I explain my sister's surprise wedding with her sick daughter. No one will say no when they hear the child has leukemia."

"But you're not even going to see her."

"But I will get to watch the wedding with my folks."

"If you can switch days, we'll do it."

"Okay, and now let's enjoy the morning," Lexie murmured as she started kissing Mark.

Meanwhile, in New York, Addison was deep into planning a fetal surgery, with scans spread all over her desk when she was interrupted by her former sister-in-law.

"Addie, did you get an email from Derek?" asked Nancy.

"No. Is everything okay with his daughter?"

"She's doing okay. He says she's on track to have the bone marrow transplant in a week or so. The big news is that Derek's getting married on Sunday to the slutty intern."

"Congratulations."

"Is that all you have to say? My brother is marrying a woman I've met just once, and his sisters are invited to attend by video. I can't even go to my brother's wedding."

"Derek loves Meredith. It's great that they're getting married. And they need to keep the size small because of their daughter, who has leukemia. You're a doctor; you know how important infection control is for someone who has an impaired immune system."

"Addie, they're getting married because the girl is sick."

"I'm sure you're right that they set the wedding date before the bone marrow transplant because it's so risky. But they love each other, so they would be getting married anyway. You should be happy that Derek is marrying the woman he loves at a time when your niece can attend the ceremony."

"My brother is getting married in a wedding so small that none of his sisters, let any of his nephews and nieces, can attend."

"Well, you got to attend a big wedding when we got married, and that marriage didn't work out. The marriage is more important than the wedding. And didn't you say you can attend by video?"

"Yes, but that's not the same."

"It shows that Derek wants you, Liz, Kathy, Amy, and your families there."

"He invited Mark, too."

"Well, Mark is going to be part of his family; he's engaged to Meredith's sister."

"He didn't invite you."

"Well, I didn't invite him to my wedding, either. It would be bizarre to have an ex-spouse at your wedding."

"Less bizarre if the wedding is by video."

"You can tape the wedding and email it to me. It might be fun seeing Derek's daughter."

"She's not going to have any hair."

Addison thought it was a good idea that Nancy was only attending the wedding by video. "She's fighting cancer. That's a battle scar to be proud of. Don't you tell your patients that?"

"They usually wear wigs to their weddings if they've lost their hair."

"Well, I wouldn't want the little girl to be self-conscious about being bald."

Nancy looked at Addison. She looked as if she realized that she'd said something wrong. "I never met her."

"Not even on skype?"

"My kids skype with her. I haven't had time to do it."

Addison stared at Nancy. She knew Nancy spent an hour a day working out, not to mention hours getting her hair and nails done. She was sure that Nancy could have found a few minutes to skype with her niece if she wanted to. But she decided to hold her tongue. Bizzy had taught her to say nothing if she can't say something kind.

"Look, Addie, I love you. I wish you were still my sister-in-law."

"Nancy, we can be friends, if you want, but I'm remarried and expecting a baby with my husband, who is not Derek. You've got to get over the divorce. Both Derek and I have."

"That doesn't mean I have to like the slutty intern."

"But she's nice. You should like her. I do."

"Well, it looks like I won't have a chance to meet her again for months, if not a year."

"Look, Nancy, you have five kids. You'd do everything you could if one of them was sick. Derek and Meredith have a rough year ahead. You need to be supportive."

"I just think my brother's making a mistake."

"That's up to him. But, in my opinion, he's finally doing the right thing. And all he's asking you to do is watch him get married on video. My guess is that Kathy is going to host a big wedding party for the whole family to watch together."

"Oh, you're right about that. I've already gotten her email about it."

"So you're going to go?"

"I don't think I have a choice."

"No, you don't."

"My kids have gotten attached to Chrissy. They'll want to see her being a flower girl at Uncle Derek's wedding."

"That's sweet."

"But what if he's making a mistake?"

"That's what divorce lawyers are for," Addison said with a laugh. "But I don't think he's making a mistake."

"Even if it's not a mistake now, if Chrissy . . ."

"Don't go there, Nancy," interrupted Addison. "She's going to be fine. You have to think positive."

"Derek wouldn't be getting married Sunday, with just a few days notice and without his sisters, if he didn't think something could go wrong."

"Look, with the bone marrow transplant coming up, they're both going to need the support of their family and friends. You need to be there for Derek, and that means supporting him in this marriage and for the next year or so."

"I guess you're right."

"Didn't you get the memo? Addison Forbes Montgomery is always right."

Meanwhile, in Seattle, Meredith reported to work and began looking for Bailey.

"Grey, congratulations," said Bailey as soon as she spotted Meredith.

"Congratulations?"

"Did you forget? Bailey knows everything. Besides, you're wearing a beautiful engagement ring."

"Thanks. Now do you know who's going to perform the ceremony?"

"No."

"Well, Derek and I would like you to perform the ceremony this Sunday." Meredith said with smile.

Bailey was speechless.

"Is that a yes?"

"I'll be honored."

"It's going to be a very small wedding. And I need to take lunch today to deal with the marriage application."

"That's fine."

"So Sunday, my house, 5 p.m."

"Sounds good to me."
