LANI P.O.V

3 sheets of paper, red pen, blue pen, back pen, white-out and 1 sheet of notes. They were the 6 things sitting on my desk in front of me. I had been dreading this essay all night. I sat waiting for Mr McGuire to hand out the task sheets after he finally photo copied them. I took the opportunity to scan around the class looking for Matt, He wasn't there.
"Have you seen Matt?" I asked Maddie sitting across from me.
"Nope" She replied. She looked at Spencer but he shook his head as to say he hadn't either.
Part of me hoped he was alright.
"Why is something going on between you two" She joked
"No not like that, it's just something happened last night"
She raised her eyebrow at me
"Did you two share a cell"
"No and for your information I didn't even get arrested, they only interviewed me"
I sat there and thought for a second
"Wait how did you know that"
She went red but didn't say anything. Finally Mr McGuire came back into class. He began to hand out the task sheets. When he got to me he didn't give me a sheet instead he told me something
"Lani cam you go see Ms Scott" He quietly whispered
"Why" I replied
"It's about your exams"

I got up and walked to her office. On the way I bumped into the sniper
"Wagging class are we" She said
"Why would I be that stupid to wag school at school"
"Don't the year 11's have an essay now"
"Yeah but according to you I'm to stupid for school, so I thought I go sit out"
She looked at me, lost for words
"Wow that's a first no crummy comebacks" I said walking off

I knocked on Bianca's door and went in
"You wanted to see me" I asked
"Yes, sit down" She said
I raised my eyebrow. This was weird
"I'm guessing yo know why your here" She asked
"Is it about last night" I asked
"Kinda"
I looked her confused
"Heath told me about your dyslexia"
"I'm gonna kill him" I said
She looked at me and smiled
"I just wanted you to know that if you need help you can ask for it"
"Iv'e made it through 11 years of school without it"
But then I thought, I may not have had help with it at school but I always got help from Brax at home. Only then did I realize how much of an impact he really had on my life.
"What about my exams"
"Well you currently have three overdue tests, but I have spoken to your teachers and we've decided to give you a few extra weeks for study and extra help after school.
I managed to make a weak smile "Thanks" I said
"It's alright but just remember I'm here if you need me, or next door" She joked
I laughed, Maybe I could get through this. Make Brax proud by showing him I can do it.
"Have you thought about what you want to do when you leave school" "
"Astronaut" I joked "I don't know"
"You still got two years" She said, "Just focus on getting you HSC"
I got up and went out. I didn't know if I should go back to class or not. On my way back to English I got cornered by the sniper.
"I heard about your little incident last night with the police"
"What of it"
"I want you to do something for me" She said
"No not again" I said "I didn't do it last time for a reason"
"If you don't I'll tell the police you burnt down mangrove high, and with last nights events they'll believe me more than you"
"What is it" I asked knowing I still wouldn't do it
"I want you to start a fire in the science lab"
"No, you can't control me"
I walked off back into class. I sat up the back and tried to read my book until the lunch bell went. I was the first out of the class to my locker

"Hey why didn't you have to do the essay" Maddie asked standing next to me
"Long story"
"Good thing lunch goes for a long time" Spencer said standing on the other side of me
I shut my locker and turned around "Why do I get the feeling I'm being ambushed"
"That'd be cause you are" Said Spencer
"I'm Dyslexic" The amount of times I had said it lately I really needed a neon sigh above my head
The both looked at me "Don't give me that look, that's exactly why I don't tell anyone"
They both went quiet, "Another reason, the awkward silences"
I looked up and saw Matt walking out. "Got to go" I said walking off

I followed him all the way to the beach. "Matt wait" I yelled trying to catch up to him
"What do you want" He asked
"Why'd you do it" I asked
"Could ask you the exact same thing"
"What would have happened to Ellie if you had got caught"
"How do you know about her"
"Matt we've been going to school together for the past 11 years, there's not much I don't know about you"
"Did you dob me in"
"Would we be here If I did" I said
I saw him look past me into the distance. I turned around, It was that stupid cop.
"What about the cctv footage" He asked still looking at her
"It would have been to dark" I replied "But their not gonna be able to pin it on me"
"Why" He asked
"I can't spell, You can deny it as much as you like and I can pretend I don't know who it was but the truth's gonna come out sooner or later, as much as we don't want it to happen it will"
"What do we have here" Asked Officer Jackson
"Nothing" I replied "Just talking about and essay"
"I thought you couldn't spell"
"Didn't say I did it"
"And where have I heard that before" She asked
"I know what tricks your trying to play at, their not gonna work. My family's been dealing with coppers like you longer than you've been alive probably"
I walked off back to the school. I was late to class I was still at my locker when the siren began to ring. This wasn't the normal bell. Everyone began to run out of the classes as the hallway filled with smoke. I could see Ms Scott through the smoke
"Lani" She called,
I followed the other kids outside. Ms Scott came up behind me when we were all outside
"Where were you?" She asked
"I didn't do it"
"Answer my question"
"I was at the beach with Matt, that's why I was late"
I looked at Montgomery looking at us. Bianca saw and looked at her to
"Do you know who did it" She asked looking back at me.
"Kinda"
"Well you either do or you don't"
"No one will believe me though"
