On to the story~

~With the Lazuli~

The day before, Lazuli had received some intense training in the form of a spar against Ozul himself, who had actually used nearly his full power in facing them. They didn't want to risk him using his full power, or he'd die for real.

The training had some good results, but it did tire them all out, so they took the next day to rest. Sen had told them that the rebels had decided to hold the final battle in two days, after all.

Still... They couldn't help but feel uncomfortable about all this.

The night of the final battle...

It was raining that night, an ironic reminder of someone that they have to face the next day. The sound of rain brought a sense of melancholy to the members of Lazuli staying in the inn. It was strangely soothing, one that could lull them back to sleep, yet most of them are awake.

Lin looked out through the glass window on her bed as she watched the water droplets falling through the skies. It was dark, yet another reminder of the day ahead of them. Only a few hours were left of them before morning comes. What would be ahead of them? She wondered, but that was not the only thing she thought of.

"You're still awake..?" A sleepy sounding voice asked to her, from Ethereal, who had been sleeping on the bed next to her. Her witch hat had been placed on the bedside table, along with her purple ribbons that had been tying her long, black hair into two.

"Hm," was Lin's only reply as she kept watching the rain pour down in a steady rhythmn.

"... Is something bothering you..?" Ethereal questioned, her eyes beginning to droop due to sleepiness.

"I guess." she replied.

"About tomorrow..?"

"Hmm, but also something else." Lin answered, making her curious this time.

"What..?" the black-haired girl asked as she rubbed her eyes, trying to stay awake.

"Lune," she replied, "Haven't you ever wondered what caused him to turn... well... that way..?"

"He didn't hit himself on the head..?" Ethereal asked, causing Lin to chuckle.

"No. At least... I don't think so." she commented as she smiled at the sleepy girl.

"Oh... Well, in any case... We won't know that unless we ask him, right..? You shouldn't be thinking on that too much." she said right before yawning, covering her mouth with her hand. "I'm going back to sleep... Good night..."

"Good night." Lin replied, smiling at the little girl. Different from her usual self, Ethereal actually looked more like her age when she was asleep.

Though, she is right. She really shouldn't think about things too much.

Just a few minutes after her head hit the pillow, Lin fell into a deep sleep.

In the inn's lobby, Asashin was sitting on one of the couches there as he checked his weapons for any problems.

A few, citizen passers-by looked shocked when they saw him take out a sniper and hurried past him.

"Eh? Asashin? What are you doing here?"

Asashin turned to see Aria, who seemed puzzled at why he would be in the lobby of all places to check his weapons. His heart raced a little at seeing her, and he turned back to his sniper before a blush managed to find a way on his cheeks.

"...I was supposed to meet Mikey here, but he still hadn't shown up." he replied as he reloaded his bullets.

"I see... but did you have to bring your guns? Everyone's getting scared." she pointed out just as another person ran away.

"Mikey told me to just bring these with me." he said, causing her to sweatdrop.

"... Good thing this inn allows us to bring weapons." the black-haired girl commented.

"Hmm. What about you? Can't sleep?" he asked as he returned his sniper back to its usual place and took out a handgun this time.

"How did you know?!" she demanded, gasping.

Asashin rolled his eyes.

"Aria, Aria, I've known you for years. Of course I'd know." he pointed out.

"Ah, that's right."

He sighed. Sometimes he just wonders why she would be able to forget such a simple thing.

"Speaking of which, what do you want to do after all this is done, Asashin?" she asked, sitting on one of the couches available. The black-haired boy did a thinking position.

"Hmm... You know, I hadn't really thought of that. What do I want to do?" he mumbled out loud.

Aria was silent for a moment to let him think of that, but in the end the boy just shook his head.

"No, I really have no idea." he said dejectedly. Aria began to think of that for a few seconds.

"Then... What if we both go and search for my parents? Then we'll decide on what we should do later on!" she suggested, grinning. Instead of a reply, the boy just stared at her.

She blushed.

"O-Of course, that's if you're okay with it..." she continued to say as she fiddled her fingers.

"I suppose that's okay." he agreed, nodding.

A wide grin made its way of the black-haired girl's face right before she tackled him into a hug.

"Yay! Thanks, Asa-chan!"

"H-Hey!" Asashin blushed in embarrassment, but made no move to push her away.

"Hmm... Am I interrupting something here?" Mikey, who had just arrived, asked, his grinning face contrasting with his question.

Immediately, Aria stayed away from black-haired boy as they both blushed a beet red.

"N-Nothing!"

Unable to go to sleep, Selena snuck out of the room she shared with Neya, who's already fast asleep since half an hour ago. She crept out of the room slowly and quietly, not wanting to wake the woman up.

Once she was outside the room, she closed the door carefully.

"What are you doing out here like a thief?"

Selena flinched at hearing that, nearly screaming, but stayed silent since she remembered that it would wake everyone up. Turning around, she saw Soul there with his hands in his pockets, looking as if he had just been passing by.

"Don't do that..! You nearly made me scream..!" she exclaimed quietly, a frown on her face.

The ice user merely ignored her words and raised an eyebrow, as if expecting her to answer his previous question. Knowing that, Selena pouted.

"I can't go to sleep..." she grumbled, crossing her arms.

"Then force yourself to."

"It's not that easy..! Wait, why are you out here even?" she retorted, asking the same question back at him.

"Not your business."

"What? No fair! I've answered yours!" Selena whined, a bit too loudly if I may add. Realizing that, she halted herself before speaking in a much more quiet voice.

"Hey, Soul?"

"Hm?"

"When you were still in the rebels... Did you really kill people that easily?" she asked.

Soul seemed to think for a bit at this question, but then rolled his eyes.

"You think too much." he simply said, not providing a clear answer.

"Hey! I asked you-"

"Just remember this," he interrupted her, "If you die, I'm going back to my previous ways."

"What..?!" Selena looked at him in disbelief, "Then... In that case, I'll just have to do my best to survive, won't I?"

Soul smiled at that, to her surprise, as if her words had been the right answer. Yet, he never clarified that fact and just walked away from her.

He didn't even manage to see her bright, blushing face.

In the dining room of the inn located at the first floor, several people who stayed at the inn are there, including Fae who had been sitting alone at a table for two. A bowl of half-eaten cereal and a glass of water is placed in front of her, but her concentration stayed on the picture she held in her hand.

The picture only has three people in it: two small children and one adult. One was a child version of her, while the other child looked almost exactly like her except for his shorter hair, and is wearing shorts instead of a skirt. The adult was that of a man in his late thirties resembling the two, albeit with brown hair. The two children were hugged by the man in the picture as they laughed happily.

"Who's that? Your brother?" she heard a familiar voice said and turned her head to see Neal, who was eating two pieces of brownies on a plate he was holding as he stared at the picture.

"N-Neal!" she exclaimed in surprise, blushing, and pointed at the seat across from her, "Y-You can just sit there, you know?"

"Ah, sorry!" he exclaimed before doing as she said. "So... That is your brother, right?" he questioned once more once he sat down.

"My older twin, to be exact." she replied, smiling, "He's also the reason why I'm here now."

"Why?"

"I want to find him. He just... left our village years ago. He didn't even tell any of us that day." she told him, frowning at the bad memory.

"Hmm," Neal looked curious, "Do you know why he did?"

"... I do, actually, but..."

"But?"

"I can't tell you, I'm sorry." she replied, looking down towards the floor.

The silver-haired boy seemed to be in thought after that, before he got an idea.

"Then, to be fair, I'm also going to tell you about my past." he said before cutting a piece of the brownies using a fork and ate it.

"Eh?" Fae looked surprised. "Y-You don't need to!"

"It's okay, I want to. You see, I was the adopted son of a king, before he and mother died of illness." Neal started to say as he ate another piece, as if it was a common knowledge.

"E-Ehhhh? Then-" The cream-haired girl looked even more shocked and was about to say something before he stopped her by holding out his hand as a stop gesture.

"No, no, no, it's okay! I'm not one anymore, anyways!" he exclaimed in a panicked way, knowing what she was about to say.

"O-Okay... T-Then..?" Fae said, still shaken at the fact.

"Well... When they died, I was supposed to take the throne, but I didn't, my uncle did. After that, he tried to kill me, but I ran away. Even now, he's still out for my blood." Neal finished saying, his expression solemn as he remembered those days.

"Neal..." Fae frowned, then she took one more look at the picture in her hands before she sighed.

"... My brother, he was known as a curse." she said in an almost inaudible voice, although he could still hear her.

Neal blinked, wondering if he heard that wrong.

"What?"

"I-I'm not sure why they did, but one day, he killed a few people of our own clan and got exiled... Before they even sent him away themselves, he left." she explained, her hands starting to tremble. "Neal... I'm sure he didn't do it..! He can't even bring himself to kill a single fly..!"

Seeing her starting to cry, Neal panicked, not used to these kind of situations. He probably shouldn't have asked that...

In a room she shared with Aria, Ayame had been reading a book silently when the sound of falling droplets brought her attention to the windows.

"It's raining, huh?" Zephyria commented as she floated beside her.

"Yeah... It is." she replied solemnly.

Thinking back, something similar to this happened years ago too, didn't it? But this time, Zephyria was the one who accompanied her. No one was there to make comments about the rain being his favorite thing, nor to start a discussion about its mystery.

Tears formed in the pink-haired girl's eyes as her fairy flew back towards her, patting her head to cheer her up.

Ozul, in plushie form, shook his head at what he's seeing.

"You know, I've actually known that Lorelei is a letter person, but I didn't expect you to be one too, Sana." he said towards the two girls who are currently writing letters at the tables.

"I hadn't been writing to my sister for a long time now. I feel guilty... Besides, we wouldn't know what would be happening tomorrow." the violinist replied, smiling.

Ozul's eye twitched.

"You act as if we'll die tomorrow."

"Well... We wouldn't know..."

"Ozzy, calm down." Lorelei told him as she laughed lightly, knowing that the half reaper was slightly offended.

Ozul glared at her, but him being in plushie form hardly made him look intimidating.

"I told you to not call me Ozzy!"

"Bear with it!" Lorelei replied, pun intended, though Ozul sadly didn't get it.

"No, I will not bear with it!"

"Then teddy with it!"

"What does that even mean?!"

Sana laughed at the two's antics as they continued their little quarrel. Her laugh, however, was slowly put to a stop as a sad expression made its way towards her face.

'Riku... Why...?'

In the rebels' HQ, when the rest of the members are all fast asleep, a certain blue-haired boy is watching the rain as it fell down through the dark skies, his eyes a dull shade of blue.

"Rain..."
