A/N: Thanks for reading. Enjoy!
"What do you think?" Kate nervously fiddled with the bracelet on her wrist while Ana read a rough draft print out of Kate's latest blog post. It was on loss, a subject Kate knew all too well from recent experiences. She was still grappling with Leslie's death as well as the miscarriage she had revealed to Ana only three days prior. "It's a lot, but I wrote what and how I was feeling." Ana set the paper down on the top of Christian's study desk. "Any kind of feedback is good."
"Kate, this is a very moving and honest piece of work. I can literally see your feelings on the page. It's...really good." Ana smiled and then wiped away her tears. Christian had offered Ana and Kate his study while he and Elliot stayed in the living room with the kids. Kate reached for and took the page in her hand.
"I'm going to polish it up and might take some out."
"It's your call, but it's perfect the way it is. Have you got an idea when you want to post it?"
"Maybe next week." Kate placed the paper inside the envelope which she had brought in. She glanced over her shoulder and then back at Ana. "I'm surprised we've been here this long and haven't been interrupted.", she giggled.
"Usually when Christian and I make a comment similiar to that, one of the kids will pop up.", Ana shrugged. "Christian's going to grill burgers. You guys are staying, right?"
"Grilled burgers sound delicious, but Elliot wants to take me and the kids out. I don't know what I'd do without him. I recall a time in which I complained about him not being mature enough and acting like a child, but he's changed. Of course he still has that childish sense about him, yet he's also become so nurturing and attentive. It's kind of ironic how something bad can make you have more appreciation for the good you have." Kate felt herself close to crying but cleared her throat and stood. "I should go and see if Elliot's ready. Have you guys talked to Ethan and Mia? I called them last night, but we got cut off."
"Christian talked to Ethan earlier. They're going to be home tomorrow. Ethan said he wasn't entirely ready to get back, but he knows they can't stay gone forever."
"I'm ready to see them. I wonder if Mia's gotten much bigger in the almost two weeks they've been gone." Ana smiled faintly at Kate. "I'm ok with seeing Mia pregnant if that's what you're wondering."
"I wasn't...well I was a little.", Ana murmured.
"I'm happy they're having a baby. They deserve it. When the time is right, Elliot and I will add to our family."
"Mama!", Layken shouted from the other side of the door. "Lan Lan won't play!"
"We'd better get out there." Ana opened the door, finding Layken with her arms crossed and blue eyes focused on Landon who sitting in front of the coffee table with his school work. "Layken, it looks like your brother is doing homework. Why don't you play with your toys?"
"Dada play?" Layken turned to the sofa where Christian was sitting. On the floor in front of him was Elliot who was playing with Charlotte and Connor. Liam was watching everyone from his swing.
"All right. Daddy will play with you for a little while, but then he has to go and start the grill.", Christian replied. "Elliot, Kate, are you staying for dinner?"
"I'm taking Kate and the kids out.", Elliot answered. He swiftly picked up both Charlotte and Connor in one swoop. "Landon, are you helping your dad grill?" Landon tapped his pencil against his notebook, bringing his eyes to meet Christian.
"You can if you want.", Christian answered Landon's silent question. "But only after your homework is finished." Even though it was Saturday, Ana and Christian had told Landon that he needed to complete the homework he had brought home the day before. Ordinarily, he did it as soon as he came home on Fridays, but he had pushed it to the side that week. Layken rushed over to Christian. "We'll play before."
"We're going to go.", Kate said. "Ana, thank you." Christian and Elliot traded glances. Christian was just as shocked and sad when Ana told him about Kate losing the baby. He and Elliot had a conversation afterwards during which Christian echoed that his brother and sister-in-law would make it through this trying time in their lives.
"You're welcome."
"Daddy, my homework is done so I can help. What do you want me to help do?", Landon asked. Christian opened the fridge in search of the ground beef and hot dogs he was to grill.
"Go ask your mom where the things to grill are.", Christian said. "I don't see them." Landon nodded and headed into the living room. He returned moments later with a frown. "What did she say?"
"She said you told her that you were going to get it after you played golf with Grandpa this morning."
"I thought she was going to get it." Ana with Liam in her arms and Layken at her side stepped through the kitchen door. "Baby, I could have sworn you said you were going to get the stuff."
"I asked you last night if you'd pick everything up, and you said yes. It's not a big deal. I'll go and get it while you stay here with the kids."
"I'll go and get it.", Christian muttered.
"Lan Lan, play with me.", Layken ordered.
"Say please, and I might.", Landon told her.
"Peas." Ana, Christian, and even Landon could barely hold back from laughing.
"Close enough. Daddy, I'm going to play with Layken until you get ready to cook burgers." Christian nodded and waved to the kids as they hurried out of the kitchen. He then swirled around to Ana who had sat down with Liam.
"When exactly did I say I would get the things?", he asked, narrowing down the timeline.
"It was during our...", Ana blushed as she glanced down at Liam. "Alone time. You may have agreed in between a few other words."
"I'm starting to remember. All of it.", Christian smirked. "We could skip the grilling and go out to dinner. It would be much easier."
"Sort of. We'd still have to get the kids dressed and then loaded up in the vehicle. Liam and Landon wouldn't be an issue, but Layken is currently in her "I don't want to wear that" stage. You know what? Let's go out."
"Daddy, I really wanted to help you grill.", Landon sighed. The family were in the middle of their dinner at Ivar's Fish and Chips.
"I know you did buddy, but it was getting late and we would've been eating dinner late. How about I get up early in the morning and go to the store for all we need to grill? Then you can help me."
"Ok."
"I help too.", Layken asserted from her booster seat.
"Layken, you can help me in the kitchen. I might make some brownies.", Ana said.
"Mmm. Tay Mama."
"I can't believe it. Christian Grey.", a raven haired woman said. The entire Grey family found the woman standing beside their table. "After all these years, I can't believe I'm running into you here of all places." With a puzzled face, Christian tried to determine who the woman was and how she knew him.
"I'm sorry but have we met?", Christian asked.
"Meredith Channing. We went to school together. I think we shared a few classes." Christian moved his eyes to Ana who was watching with curiosity from her seat. "I had glasses and the worst haircut in the world back then. Perhaps this will jog your memory. I was the one responsible for the chemistry class being evacuated not once, not twice, but three times in one week."
"Now I remember. You liked mixing different chemicals together."
"That was me. My father's company transferred him to Paris in the middle of our senior year, and I've been living abroad since then. I'm now in the process of settling back down in Seattle. I've still heard great things about you and your empire." Meredith slowly focused on Ana. "All while being a doting family man. Hi. I'm sorry for interrupting."
"It's fine. I'm Ana. This is Landon, Layken, and Liam.", Ana said.
"I remember you from school too. Well, I remember your brother Matt. I've stayed in touch with a few of my friends from school. One of them told me about Matt." The mentioning of Matt's name halted Landon's eating. "I'm sorry."
"Thank you."
"You said you've just moved back to Seattle?", Christian asked, wanting to quickly change the subject.
"I am. I needed a change and thought maybe coming back to Seattle would be a good place to start. I studied fashion design and am hoping to find a space to open my own boutique. This dress is one of my creations." She waved her hands to the sleeveless black dress she was wearing. An alternation of black and red buttons lined the front of the garment.
"That's a pretty dress.", Ana smiled. "You've got a great talent."
"Thank you." Meredith took a glimpse at Christian, a glimpse that didn't escape Ana's observation. "I'm going to let you finish your dinner, but it was so nice to see you again."
"Have a good evening.", Christian responded.
"She was nice.", Landon said once Meredith had walked away.
"She sure was.", Ana mumbled.
"I hope Elliot and Kate had a nice evening out with the kids.", Christian said while he and Ana were snuggled on their bed with the movie A Walk to Remember playing on their tv. He caressed Ana's shoulder and then kissed the top of her head.
"Me too. I hate that she lost her mom and baby. I knew she was already struggling with Leslie's death, but dealing with the miscarriage adds to the devastation. Her blog entry was really heartfelt."
"What's happened will always be with them, but it'll get easier to handle."
"Yeah. Meredith Channing seemed nice. Her dress was very pretty."
"She was, and I guess the dress was ok.", Christian shrugged. Ana turned her head upward. "Did you expect me to give another answer?"
"Judging by the way she was looking at you she was expecting you to say something about her dress. She also acted a little upset that you didn't recognize her right away."
"Like she said, she had glasses and a different haircut in school. Tell me you weren't jealous."
"I was not jealous.", Ana scoffed. She raised herself up on her elbows. "We should turn the movie off and get some sleep."
"Do you want to sleep or do you want to revisit last night?", Christian asked with seduction lacing his voice. He turned the movie off and rolled on top of Ana. His hands slid down her body, stopping at the pajama shorts she was wearing. "Just give me the word, and I'll rock your world." Ana laughed and threw her hands over her head. "Is that a yes?"
"It's your cue to rock my world Mr. Grey.", she giggled. Christian's hand eased inside the shorts and the white lace panties underneath. He then thrust two fingers inside Ana. "Oh yeah. That's it."
"You like that baby?" He moved the fingers out, only to shove them back in with more ferocity. "Fuck Ana." She could feel his cock hardening as he pressed against her. "You feel how you turn me on. You. Only you turn me on."
"I want you in me.", Ana growled while pulling on the band of Christian's pajamas. Christian grinned and slid her panties off before jumping off the bed to remove his pajamas and boxers. He then got back on the bed and repositioned himself on top of me, pulling her legs around his waist before slamming into her. Ana gripped the sheets as their tongues tangled together. "Fuck."
"You're so hot when you curse.", Christian panted.
"I'm close."
"Give it to me Ana. Come on baby." He deepened his thrusts just as he saw Ana's orgasm hit. She pulled him down closer to her, urging his release with the tightening of her legs around him. His hips swiveled as he released himself inside her.
"We should be able to sleep well now.", he laughed.
