A/N: Welcome to Act III: Against the Grain
It's been a few days since Blake and Ruby got together but they haven't acted like they were together.
They still felt horrible about Yang. Yang was still depressed. She didn't eat much, or slept much, she also hasn't made a pun. She still trained and went to the gym. She spent a lot of time at the punching bag, Ruby was really hoping that Yang was visualizing her as the punching bag.
Only in secret would Ruby and Blake be together. They wouldn't do much, they would just hold hands and kiss every once in a while.
Unfortunately for Ruby and Blake, mostly Ruby, word had gotten around the school that Ruby had broken up Blake and Yang.
Students in the hall would sometimes give Ruby dirty looks. About Two or three times a person had said to her "Home-wrecker"
Even JNPR disliked Ruby. They too would give her mean looks but wouldn't say anything to her. It was their open disdain for her that hurt Ruby the most.
The only person that hadn't turned their back on Ruby was Weiss.
Weiss said to Ruby that "Partners always stick by each other." Ruby was incredibly grateful for Weiss' friendship, if not for that, she probably would've snapped a while ago.
But what hurt the new couple, especially Ruby, the most was that Yang hadn't spoken to either of them the past few days.
They both tried on separate occasions but Yang wouldn't respond and would just ignore them.
At least JNPR and Weiss are comforting her…Ruby thought.
Ruby had considered breaking up with Blake, to end Yang's depression but she thought that wasn't fair to Blake, who had chosen her over Yang. She also didn't want to break up with Blake.
Ruby and Weiss were in the room and were watching TV. Then Ruby asked Weiss, "Hey Weiss, I hate to ask so much of you but can you help me?"
"What do you need help with? Yang?" Weiss responded.
Ruby nodded and asked, "How do I get her to talk to me?" Weiss looked at Ruby and saw how depressed she looked. It reminded her of when Ruby was ignoring her and when she asked for advice from Blake and Yang. They switched.
"Well Ruby, let me give you some advice that I got myself awhile back. Don't let her ignore you anymore, find a way to keep her from leaving so that she'll be forced to talk to you." Weiss advised.
Ruby nodded and said, "Thanks. Hey how come you haven't turned your back on me or Blake? I mean everyone else has."
Weiss shrugged and answered, "I don't really care about your romantic issues. I know you're still a good person. Just because you stole Blake away from Yang, doesn't make me think that you're a bad person."
"Huh. Well thank you very much Weiss for still being my friend." Ruby said as she smiled at her.
Weiss scoffed and said, "You dolt, like a said before, I'll be the best partner ever and that includes always being your friend." Ruby really appreciated Weiss' friendship at that moment.
Ruby had to think of a way to get Yang to talk to her, she needed to earn her forgiveness.
The next day in history class, the students had to recite a poem or a literary work about humans.
Ruby found a song that they could say in class.
All four of RWBY were standing in front of the class each holding a paper in their hands.
Ruby started first. "This is song I found, really like it. It's called Modern Man. Okay here we go.
I've got nothing to say,
I've got nothing to do,
all of my neurons are
functioning smoothly
yet still I'm a cyborg just like you,"
Then Weiss continued,
"I am one big myoma that thinks,
my planet supports only me,
I've got this one big problem: will I live forever?
I've got just a short time you see"
Blake then continued,
"modern man, evolutionary betrayer,
modern man, ecosystem destroyer,
modern man, destroy yourself in shame,
modern man, pathetic example of earth's organic heritage,
Yang took over from there,
"when I look back and think,
when I ponder and ask "why?",
I see my ancestors spend with careless abandon,
assuming eternal supply,
Ruby then finished it up,
modern man, evolutionary betrayer,
modern man, ecosystem destroyer,
modern man, destroy yourself in shame,
modern man, pathetic example of earth's organic heritage,
just a sample of carbon-based wastage,
just a fucking tragic epic of you and I!"
The students all clapped and then Oobleck said, "Excellent poem girls, though I could've done without the profanity at the end."
Eventually the classes ended and Ruby was going to try to get Yang to talk to her.
Ruby was at the library and was waiting for Yang to show up.
Eventually Yang did show up.
"Hey Yang can you help me with my math?" Ruby waved at her. Yang looked surprised, her eyes wide. She stuttered out, "C-C-Can't…sorry." Yang then walked out of the library.
Ruby then sighed. Really thought that was going to work. Now what? Ruby thought as she slouched in her chair.
In the cafeteria Ruby was waiting for Yang to show up but she didn't. So Ruby decided to head to where she was almost sure that Yang would be; the gym.
Ruby went over to the gym and found Yang. She was on a treadmill. Ruby walked up to her but then saw she had earbuds in her ears, she was listening to music.
Ruby was going to tap her on the shoulder but decided not to disturb her, it would've been rude. Ruby then exited out of the gym.
Ruby's last resort was to walk into the bathroom the same time as Yang. However when Yang went into a stall and closed the door, Ruby stopped in her tracks; it felt weird to try and talk to Yang while she was in the bathroom. So Ruby walked out of the bathroom.
That really was a stupid idea, my God I'm dumb. Ruby thought as she exited the bathroom.
The day ended with no success, Yang still hadn't talked to her. To make Ruby feel worse, Blake told her that Yang had started speaking to her. This made Ruby more determined to get Yang to start talking to her again.
The next two days she made many attempts to talk to Yang but they all failed. One time Ruby walked into the library and saw Blake and Yang conversing, her heart cracked a bit when she heard the two chuckle.
At least she's forgiven Blake…but me, who had done a great betrayal against her, I don't think she'll ever talk to me again.
Ruby was in her dorm when she had an idea. One last plan, one last attempt. She got on the computer and looked a song and started learning it.
It was Friday, classes had ended and the sun was setting. Weiss, Blake, and Yang walked out of the dorm building conversing and smiling when they stopped in their tracks. Yang gasped at the sight before her.
Ruby was sitting on her guitar amp, had her guitar in her hands, ready to play.
"Yang please…let me play you a song." Ruby pleaded. Yang sighed and said, "Okay."
The first word Yang had said to her in days, this spurred Ruby on.
She then started playing the guitar and started singing.
Josie's on a vacation far away
Come around and talk it over
So many things that I want to say
You know I like my girls a little bit older
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight
Ruby actually had a great voice, and it sounded well with this song. She surprised her team with her great guitar playing and great voice.
I ain't got many friends left to talk to
No one's around when I'm in trouble
You know I'd do anything for you
Stay the night but keep it undercover
I just wanna use your love tonight, whoa
I don't wanna lose your love tonight
Ruby played a different riff and sang,
Try to stop my hands from shakin'
Somethin' in my mind's not makin' sense
It's been awhile since we were all alone
I can't hide the way I'm feelin'
As you leave me, please, would you close the door?
And don't forget what I told you
Just 'cause you're right, that don't mean I'm wrong
Another shoulder to cry upon
I just wanna use your love tonight, yeah
I don't wanna lose your love tonight
Yeah, I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love toniiiiiiight
Ruby then played a guitar solo that wasn't complex but sounded amazing, a beautiful solo.
She then sang emotionally,
Toniiiiight
I don't wanna lose
I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna Loooose
No, no
Lose your love tonight
Your loooove!
Ruby then played some final chords and finished the song. The song wasn't all too appropriate in this situation but Yang knew what Ruby was trying to say with the song.
Ruby looked at Yang with tears in her eyes, and said sincerely to her, "Yang…I'm really sorry. Please, there's nothing that I want more than to talk again. To be friends. To be sisters. I'm asking, I'm begging you, please forgive me."
Yang sighed and closed her eyes. When she opened them, she too had tears in her eyes. She hugged Ruby and said, "I forgive you. There's nothing I want more than for us to be sisters again."
Ruby was stunned for a second but then hugged her back. "Thank you so much…"
Weiss and Blake smiled upon seeing the sisters hug.
Things can finally go back to normal. Weiss thought relieved.
