Fact: Boise City was the only town in the US bombed during WWII.
They needed to be tested, Dad had insisted, before they were entrusted to take care of the Germans. If they weren't reliable, it'd put good boys in danger that was completely unnecessary. A small sacrifice to keep them out of danger wasn't that much to ask, was it?
Dad wouldn't say why, exactly, it had to be in his house; especially when there was so much empty desert where this sort of thing had been tested already. He wasn't sure he necessarily wanted an answer to that question (it couldn't be good).
He'd just grit his teeth and bear it.
