Chapter thirty-five

Max and joey drove into town to start their planning. Joey got Macy out of the car while max sorted out the pushchair.

"Hello sleepy head" joey cooed to Macy. She rubbed her eyes and rested her head on joeys shoulder.

Max put the pushchair up and he looked over at joey and Macy, smiling.

"You are great with her" max said. Joey looked up at max in surprise but smiled as well. He put Macy in the pushchair and fastened her in.

"You know, me and Lauren talked about me being a dad to Macy and I thought I couldn't do it, Lauren knew I could do it but I wasn't sure because I'd never had any experience with babies so I had no idea what I was doing" joey sighed.

"Your her dad though thats what really counts joey" max said as they walked along the road. "I know but Lauren had already been there for Macy hadn't she? She went through the whole pregnancy and she raised Macy for the first six months of her life, I was just that scared of screwing I didn't really realise that us was already being a good dad to Macy" joey said.

"It's actually only just hit me that I've already made a connection with her" joey said, smiling. "That's good, I'm glad you and Lauren are back on track and being amazing parents to Macy" max said, patting joeys back.

They stopped outside the shop, seeing the familiar faces sat inside. Joey ducked his head to see them properly and then smiled as the two girls started waving at him.

"Hello darling" the woman said, pulling joey into a hug and then kissing him on the cheek. "Hi mum" joey smiled. "Alice, you alright?" Max asked.

"Where's Lauren?" She asked. "Oh she's sprained her ankle so she's resting" joey said. "Oh" Alice frowned. "Ah what's up, we not good enough for you?" Joey smirked.

"Yeah yeah, I'd prefer Lauren though" Alice smiled cheekily. "Well tough" joey said. Alice fidgeted with her hands and looked around. "What's up with you?" Joey asked Alice.

"Nothing" she said shrugging her shoulders. Joey watched some guy behind Alice on his mobile. The guy kept staring at Alice and joey raised an eyebrow at him.

"Do you know that guy Alice?" Joey asked. "Hm?" She mumbled. "Do you know that guy?" Joey asked again. Alice looked behind her then looked at joey.

"Well, do you?" He asked. "For crying out loud Alice, yes she knows him joey, he's her boyfriend and his name is Adam" Kathy, joeys mum said.

"Er boyfriend?" He asked Alice. "Yeah?" Alice asked. "what's he treat you like?" Joey asked Alice. "He's amazing" Alice grinned. Joey looked at her with a raised eyebrow, "no guys that good al" joey told her.

"You know what Adam, I think we'll go to your mums after all" she said as he got off the phone. Adam looked at her confused while she said goodbye to Macy.

"Bye mace" Adam said tickling her chin. Joey looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "I don't like him, he's weird" joey said. "Joseph branning! You will not treat your sister in that way, you have upset her, one day we all get to spend with each other and you have to put your foot in it!" Kathy snapped at him.

"Alright, well don't you wanna meet Macy then?" Joey asked. Kathy looked at joey with a raised eyebrow. "I have met her" she said. "What?" Joey asked.

"I was with Lauren when Macy was born, I was even living with her for the first three days after Macy being born" Kathy said.

Joey looked at Kathy very confused, "so you know Lauren?" He asked. "Yes joey" she laughed. "Howe come I didn't know about any of this?" Joey asked.

"I don't know, It probably just slipped Lauren's mind, talk to her when you get back" Kathy told him.

"Right we going shopping or what?" Max asked them both. Joey nodded and they began to look around the shop. "Oh and Lauren is probably going to kill you for doing that to Alice" max said.

"Lauren knows about Adam?" Joey asked. "Yeah there all pretty great friends" max said. Joey started to feel a little bit guilty and he knew Lauren was probably going to kill him.

They walked around the shop and joey finally found what he wanted with max and Kathy's help. "Right I better get going, I can't believe how late it is and Macy needs to be bathed and put to bed" joey said.

"Bye darling, I'll see you soon" Kathy said, pulling joey into a hug. Max and joey walked off together and made their way back home with Macy.

"See you later joe" max said walking through his gate. Joey waved and max laughed as Macy waved too.

Joey made his way into the house and upstairs to a sleeping Lauren. He put Macy on the bed and she crawled up to lay with Lauren.

Joey got Macy in some pajamas then got himself undressed before getting in bed with Lauren, Macy laying in between them.
