Pink vs. Blue
DSCLAIMER AND CHARACTER OWNERSHIP: same as always
Christmas and New Year's had flown by faster than anyone had cared to admit, least of all, Kensi. Countless parties, get-togethers and what seemed to be everlasting buffets of delicious food filled her memories of the final weeks of 2013. Before she could blink, Deeks' birthday was over, with the birthday boy in possession of a brand-new, state of the art surfboard. Today, the Special Agent was nervously fidgeting in a hospital room, feverishly waiting for her OB/GYN, who was now 10 minutes late, and her husband, who was now over 15 minutes late. Wrapping her arms around herself, Kensi attempted to contain her nervous energy, however, no amount of mediation or deep breathing aided to reduce her anxiety so the brunette began to fidget once again. After what seemed like an eternity, Kensi and Deeks were to discover the sex of their baby. Although what with Deeks' absence stretching further and further, it looked like Kensi was going to find out by herself. The door burst open, effectively cutting off her thoughts, and her blond haired husband ran into the room. Smiling apologetically, he pulled Kensi into a searing kiss, hoping that it would be an adequate apology. "Bad guys didn't realize that today was the day that we would name the baby Marty Jr. or Kensi Jr." Deeks mumbled against his wife's lips, causing her to smirk slightly.
"You're still on that?" Kensi deadpanned, looking Deeks square in the eye, causing him to grin lazily back. "Besides, I've told you at least twice now, that we're not naming our kid Marty Jr. or Kensi Jr., they'll get beaten up at the playground."
"I suppose I'll admit defeat on that Kensi." Deeks agreed thoughtfully, not wanting to annoy his pregnant wife more then he already had. "By the way, I brought you cupcakes."
"You're amazing." Kensi moaned, launching herself at the sugary goodness and swallowing a vanilla cupcake in almost one bite. Beaming at Deeks, who looked concerned, she grabbed a red velvet cupcake and began to devour it. "I love cupcakes."
"Care to share?" a voice interrupted, heralding the entrance of Dr. Daye, Kensi's OB/GYN. "I'll just take one, scout's honor."
"I guess." Kensi admitted, passing the doctor a double chocolate cupcake "You do take care of the baby and I."
"Much appreciated." Dr. Daye smiled, quickly munching down the cupcake, washed his hands and prepped Kensi for the ultrasound exam. "So, big day. Still think it's a girl, Kensi?"
"You better believe it, doctor." Deeks supplied, patting Kensi delicately on the shoulder. "She doesn't even fathom the idea of a son with this baby."
"Just wait." Kensi drawled, picking the crumbs off of the cupcake wrapper, trying to distract herself from the sensation of the cold jelly being placed on her abdomen.
After a few minutes of measuring the baby and recording the results, Dr. Daye stood up, walked towards his printer and retrieved the exam pictures. Smiling at the couple, he placed the images in Deeks' waiting hands. "It is a girl, congratulations."
"I love you." Deeks murmured in Kensi's ear, immediately pulling her into a hug. Kensi reciprocated, squeezing her husband as hard as she could, a few tears of happiness splashing on his green hoodie.

Meanwhile, across town, Nell and Eric were locked in a battle of wills, neither wanting to admit defeat. Callen and Sam were shamelessly staring at the couple, enjoying the Wonder Twins' debate over what to have for lunch. "I'm telling you G, Eric is going to cave first. He always sides with Nell eventually, even if it's just to keep the peace." Sam whispered to the Senior Agent.
"Not when it comes to sushi. That is Eric's favorite food Sam, haven't you seen him eat an 80-piece sushi boat? It's impressive in this rather awful gluttonous way." Callen replied, rolling his eyes dramatically.
"I still think that Nell is going to get her steak. It only makes sense: beef trumps raw fish." Sam retorted, watching a vein in Nell's forehead pulse wickedly.
"You're only on her side because you want steak for lunch as well, it's absurd." Callen exclaimed, gazing as Eric calmly blinked in Nell's direction.
"Can't go wrong with an 8-ounce slab of organically grown beef, G. Actually, if they keep this up much longer, I'll go out and buy my own steak." Sam commented, smirking in the direction of the pair.
"Really gentlemen, is this argument between Ms. Jones and Mr. Beale of greater importance then investigating the intelligence we gathered last night?" Hetty questioned, appearing seemingly out of thin air beside the two Agents.
"Absolutely not." Callen attested, turning to look at the Operations Manager. "But we can't access any data without Eric or Nell opening the files on the system."
"Don't go blaming us for your problems." Nell stated, swiveling her head towards the men, "You guys could have easily accessed the system yourselves, it's not rocket science."
"Well, it appears that way when you two do it." Sam offered, desperately trying to look straight ahead and not in Hetty's direction. "G and I, we're hopeless when it comes to computers."
"True, very true." Callen supplied, nodding vigorously, and gesturing to the large screen to solidify his point.
"That's not the point-…" Nell began, her cell phone stopping her train of thought. Suddenly, a smile was plastered on her face and she pulled Eric into a kiss. "Sushi is fine, we'll grab a late lunch. Also, Kensi is having a baby girl."

"I told you, didn't I tell you? I told you, I told you, I told you." Kensi sang, as she got out of the car, her hand cradling her abdomen.
"Kensi, nobody likes a gloater." Deeks replied, smirking in his wife's direction. She was right, but he wasn't going to admit it and inflate her ego more than it already was.
"You're just mad that you were wrong. Marty Deeks, famed LAPD undercover detective, NCIS liaison, wrong about the sex of his firstborn child. This will make the morning headlines." Kensi laughed, walking into the house and doing a double take when she saw that the whole team along with Katie and Wyatt, standing in their living room. "What are you guys doing here?"
"I commissioned them to help me with something." Deeks answered, helping Kensi out of her jacket.
"Bribed us is more like it." Katie grinned, shoving a piece of pink cotton candy into her mouth. "We all came to congratulate you on your baby girl."
"That's no the only reason they're here." Deeks stated, cutting off the young brunette. "They've been helping me throughout December with a special gift, I thought it would be ready for Christmas morning, but we screwed up the timing. And I gave you that amazing spa package with a massage, pedicure and manicure so it all evened out."
"Get to the point Deeks." Kensi stated, looking apprehensively at the gathered group.
"You know how I told you Wyatt dumped soda pop on the floor of the guest room and it needed to be cleaned?" Deeks asked, eyeing the aforementioned bedroom door.
"He didn't really ruin the room did he?" Kensi questioned, walking towards the room and opened the door. Gasping slightly, she walked into the room, which had been completely transformed into a nursery. Light yellow and pink paint covered the walls, with a dark mahogany crib by the window and a matching changing table and dresser beside it. A rocking chair sat in the corner with stuffed animals surrounding it. What really drew Kensi's eye were the photos that adored the walls: snapshots of her and Deeks' evolving relationship; as partners, friends, lovers and finally a married couple.
"I wanted her to know what true love is from the very start of her life: she deserves that." Deeks smiled, kissing Kensi's head.
"It's beautiful." Kensi responded, smiling in return. "How did you know to paint it pink?"
"I'd never bet against you Angelfish." Deeks whispered, pulling her closely and rocking her in his arms.
