Jane's hands nearly gave as Frost's words registered in her brain. The guard at the hospital was dead. Maura was missing. MAURA WAS MISSING. Jane turned her attention back to Hoyt; he had a smile on his face that stretched from ear to ear. Giving no warning or any time for the other two detectives to react, she balled her left hand into a fist and connected with Hoyt's face as hard as she could.

"Jane!" both Frost and Korsak yelled in unison.

Pain immediately coursed through her palm and ran up her arm and straight to her brain. She felt as if she'd hit a brick wall. Not giving a second thought, she grabbed the prisoner by the collar and slammed him up against the wall again.

"WHERE IS SHE?!" Jane yelled, fury etched in every single one of her features. She was about to hit Hoyt once more when she felt strong arms wrap around her middle and drag her away.

"That's enough, Jane," Frost tried to calm her down.

"Of course it's not enough! This son of a bitch is responsible for this! I want to know where Maura is!" Jane fought against Frost to be let free. "Let me go Frost!"

Korsak quickly opened the door and asked for guards to come in and cuff Hoyt once more. The older detective turned to Jane. "You're in no position to handle this now. I'll take care of it Jane."

She looked at her superior with pain-filled eyes, pleading for him to let her take over.

"Go, cool off. I'll get what we need. You need to get that hand looked at. That's an order."

Frost practically dragged Jane out of the interrogation room and into the hallway where two more detectives were as Cavanaugh was quickly approaching. He bypassed all pleasantries and went into the room, closing the door behind him.

Jane turned her attention to the detective that had walked in to inform Frost of the situation.

"Ben, what do you know?" she asked as she cradled her now throbbing left hand in her right.

"I got a call from the hospital. Apparently a doctor had gone to the operating room where Dr. Isles was supposed to be in surgery to get some information and had found the uniform dead. His neck had been sliced with what appears to be a scalpel."

"Are there any signs of who could've taken Maura? Any way to see who it was? Some kind of ID?"

"There are cameras set up in the operating room, but none in the scrub room. Frankie headed down to the hospital to look over tape from hospital hallways to see if we can find anything. I got two guys over there questioning personnel to see if they know anything. The only thing we know right now is that there is a survivor, but she's badly hurt and in surgery right now."

"Who is it?"

"A Dr. Chang."

"SUSIE! That's Maura's resident. She follows Maura around everywhere because she's the only one Maura trusts with her patients. How bad is it? Is she going to make it?" Jane was desperate and as much as she wanted to make sure the other doctor was alright, she knew the only clue as to where to find Maura lay in Susie's hands.

"I haven't gotten an update yet but it didn't look good," replied Ben.

"I gotta get over there. Susie is the only one who could possibly have a clue as to where to find Maura. I need to go and see if she makes it out of surgery so we can try to get some information."

"Let's go, I'll drive you, Jane."

"Thanks," Jane replied as she gave a grateful nod and hurriedly turned to follow her fellow detective to his car.

It was a two hour wait for Susie to get out of surgery once Jane got to the hospital. She'd spent the two hours walking up and down the same small space in the waiting area, hopeful to hear some good news. Once they heard Susie had survived the surgery, she'd exhaled a sigh of relief. The damage her head injury had caused was a reason for concern and she wasn't out of the woods just yet. She still had intracranial swelling so the neurosurgeon had removed a part of her skull to make room for the swelling to slowly subside. The bad news was that she was in a medically induced coma and wouldn't be waking until her swelling went down to within an acceptable margin.

Frost and Korsak had shown up at the hospital a little over an hour after Jane. They'd gotten absolutely nowhere with Hoyt, who as expected had reveled in causing such havoc. Cavanaugh had done the impossible and after several calls had managed to get a hold of the governor and gotten an approval to hold Hoyt at the precinct under his direct supervision. He'd explained beyond doubt that Hoyt was not to be trusted and could not go back to prison where he would be more likely to plan and attempt to escape. These news had only given Jane a little amount of relief, yet it still angered her to no end that they had yet to find something to go on.

Once it was clear that they weren't going to get any immediate answers, Frost and Korsak ganged up on Jane and forced the detective to get her hands checked, since they were already at the hospital and all. Jane had looked down at her hands to see them badly bruised and slightly trembling; she didn't really have a choice on getting them looked at.

Going through x-rays, she could only think how she would much rather have Maura back and have her be the one to handle Jane's care; not necessarily to get better attention, but just to have Maura back. Getting her hands bandaged once again was definitely not something she approved of but ended up living with the consequences and acquiesced the attending doctor's orders.

She was about to get in Frost's car to head back to the precinct when she felt her phone vibrate in its holder. She picked it up instantly without delay.

"Rizzoli," she spoke into the receiver.

"Hello, detective. Do I have your attention now?" a male's voice asked from the other end.

I can't even begin to formulate a reason as to why it's taken me so many months to update this thing... suffice it to say I just haven't been able to, I profusely apologize to everyone, and hope that whoever you are, you're still willing to read. The time I've been away has given me the ability to get my things in order so I'm back to writing this full time until it's done. I'm guessing at least 1 chapter a day. Thanks for sticking with it!
