Three weeks later:

Lisa drove past the border, having had the easiest crossing she'd ever had before. Maybe it was the pregnancy thing, but the border guards were friendly and easy to deal with, even with her ton of crap in the back of the truck. She drove steadily down the interstate towards Florida. She'd never driven this far south, and the further she went, the prettier it got. And the hotter. She had to crank the air conditioning. She spent a couple of nights in hotels, she chose nice ones in pretty little towns. The last day or driving, she was incredibly nervous. A thousand thoughts raced through her mind. She worried about everything. She worried that Sheamus would get sick of having her around. She worried that all of his time on the road would make him forget her and the baby. She worried that she'd be homesick. As the GPS directed her around a twisty little cluster of neighbourhoods, her stomach calmed and her head cleared. She still felt as if she'd made the right decision. Lisa rounded the corner and there stood Sheamus' house, with the lawn neatly clipped and his SUV parked on one side of the driveway, leaving plenty of room for her truck. She backed it into the driveway, and she she turned back around to turn off the truck, Sheamus was standing in front of it. Lisa squeaked in surprise, sounding like an errant dog toy being stepped on. Sheamus tried to keep a straight face, and lost it. He guffawed until his face was bright red and tears streamed from his eyes. "You asshole!" she shouted, smiling. He laughed harder, and pulled open her door, scooping her up into a giant bearhug.

"Aw love I've missed yeh somethin' crazy! I'm so glad yer finally here!"

"I missed you too!" she mumbled into his chest. Lisa was crying freely, tears pouring down her face, "I'm so happy I'm here finally!"

"Aw love, don't cry! It's good now!"

"These are happy tears, I promise!" Lisa said, wiping her eyes and smiling.

"Yer belly! Lookit yeh! It's so round and cute!" he shouted, holding her at arm's length and marvelling. Lisa stuck her stomach out even further and puffed air into her cheeks.

"I'm huge!" she declared.

"Far from it, lass! Yeh can tell that's all wee one!"

Sheamus banished Lisa to the couch to put her feet up while he unloaded the truck. "But..." she tried to argue.

"An' I'll have none of it! Yeh sit yer pretty arse down and rest. I'm takin' care of yeh now." He made short order of the load of stuff it had taken Lisa the better part of three days to load up. She sat on the couch with her feet on the coffee table and had music videos playing on the tv. Sheamus came back in, with a slight sheen of sweat on his skin. He mopped off his face on a towel and came to sit next to her on the couch. He gave her a peck on the mouth and smiled broadly. "How'd yeh get so pretty?"

"Flatterer!" she said, blushing and preening like a teenager. "You sure know how to make a girl feel wanted."

"Aw love, yeh have no idea how much yer wanted. I think about yeh all the time. The guys at work ask about the gorgeous lass I brought around. I think Rand-o has a wee smidge of a crush on yeh!"

Lisa giggled. They spent the rest of the evening eating and catching up on the little details from the past month or so. It didn't feel real yet to either of them. Lisa still felt as if she'd have to pack up and leave again after a week. Sheamus couldn't believe she was here to stay. Night came before either of them knew it, and they sleepily wandered into the bedroom to curl into each other. Lisa curled up on her side, and Sheamus wrapped himself around her from behind, spoon-style. He stroked her belly absently. "Ah!" he exclaimed.

"What? What's the matter?" Lisa said worriedly.

"It moved! I felt him move! Your belly!" he stammered. She smiled and put his hand back on her belly, where the baby pounded away with his little feet.

"He likes you!" Lisa said. "He doesn't do that for just anyone." Sheamus smiled into Lisa's hair and they both drifted off, completely content, with his arm curled protectively around her belly.
