"OH, I LIKE HER ENERGY!" Sam/Himiko shouted as she climbed into the late model Rolls Royce Phantom limited edition with Lara, Carter, the seer, Rene, Serge, and Jean; after the wake.

"She fucked him up bad?," Serge asked.

Sam grinned, "KILLED him," she hissed.

"That was it?," Rene asked, amazed that all of it was over.

"NOPE!" the seer chimmed in, "Not even close. These fuckers are the drugs of choice of immortal addicts... same as Lara... and this fucker is a never ending speedball. Mary just gave the junky a quick fix during a lull... then, when she stopped being angry... pop - Jack is back. Can't say why she let up. She just suddenly became euphoric."

"It gave her her baby back," Sam answered, "She ended him, and the sylph - in the ruby - wanted a new emotion...joy. Volcanus - somewhere on him - sensitive to this useless to it emotion, restarted his heart. He won't fall so hard to her again. She is done... not so angry at all." She smiled slightly.

The seer shook his head, "Oh you should be devastated majesty... more suffering for him to deal out. Why so content? Now you can kill him yourself? Are you that delusional?"

Sam smiled, "Oh Marty, I never said I can... or would. I gave her my word. Besides... we both know he wasn't going to die... there. Those men who rushed over to finish him are lucky they were late... for now."

"So," Lara sighed, "We need to find this jewel on him. A madman who cannot be killed." She looked out the window, "Thank you for trying Mary. I guess you're going..."

The temperature in the car dropped suddenly.

"Watch," the seer whispered, his breath misting, his voice emotionless, "the blue light comes from his watch... no longer a girl's best friend."

"I want whatever he's doing", Jean joked, looking at the seer.

No one laughed.

The seer recovered, "That is all I can hear her say... she's being pulled away toward 'it'," he gasped, his face almost glowed with joy, "so beautiful. Thank you for letting me see it."

"See what?" Rene asked, "her child?"

The seer's face drifted toward the north, "The lady of the lake." he whispered.

"A water nymph," Sam sighed, excited, "You have one? HERE? This is great news. Might help defeat them all. The only thing that instantly snuffs out the favor of the fire spirit is a water nymph... and you have one."

"A myth," Evan answered, "nothing more."

"And you're talking to?," Sam answered.

"Point taken." Rene interjected.

"Tell me," Sam asked, "Did this 'MYTH' bestow a blessing on a hero? or his weapon ? Was it 'returned' to her? AFTER he used it to defend NOT conquer?"

Lara leaned over, "YES"

Sam grinned wider, "Tell me, was there a great enemy? Terrifying? Seemingly supernatural? Hell bent on slaughter?"

"YES," they all leaned in, fascinated.

"They retreated... didn't they?" she turned to Lara."Ran away... FAR away... didn't they? NEVER came back?"

Lara nodded.

"MASSIVE ARMY... frightened by a dying hero throwing a sword in a lake? Where does this story take place?"

"I...," Carter began.

"Saxon invasion!" Serge interupted, "Dark ages. King Arthur... a Roman general."

"Who wrote it?"

"A catholic..."Lara started.

"Stop," Sam said, "ROMAN? A priest? SO... NOT entirely true... or false. Tell me, where on this island nation did a section of the land remain free when all about were conquered by a single, great, and terrible army? And NOT just free, but that army NEVER attacked again. Perhaps even built a fortification to keep them out?"

They all looked to one another.

"Hadrian's wall, border with Scotland," Lara said, "just after the loss of the... " her eyes locked with Sam's, "...Ninth Legion."

"Lady of the lake?" Sam asked.

"Lady of the loch," Lara whispered, "Nessie."
