-The Missing Masquerade-

Chapter 35- Velvet

Naraku stanched another misty glance to Kagome's back. They had only just arrived at the Taishou household, and yet he felt he needed to move things along – he was sure Miroku and the wolf had all but soiled their pants when faced with the angered face of Touga…and he was sure that the others back at the estate where already aware of who he was.

Everyone…all but them.

Kagome, Sesshomaru…they knew nothing. To them, Naraku was simply a friend.

His red eyes watched her walk by him once again; towards the back door, making sure it was locked as Sesshomaru checked the windows – The two conversed their concerns to one another, and Naraku watched their closeness in envy…he bit back the urge to act too quickly, step by step he had to follow, or all the waiting would be put to waste.

"It's okay, Kagome," The spider flinched as he watched the scene play before him – Sesshomaru moving a stray strand of hair from her face, the look she gave to him, followed by a small smile, "If it all comes down to it…"

"Please don't say the whole 'I'll protect you' line," She silenced a slightly surprised Sesshomaru with her finger, "Trust me, I can watch myself…and you can back me up if I'm in a pinch…"

He smiled back at her, gently removing her finger from his lips, "Glad that I could still be of service…"

All while the red eyes drank in Kagome's form from the corner.

Wandering – trailing from her smooth face, down her stomach, her legs…

Naraku wanted to act.

It was almost time.

Almost time.

First things first, Sesshomaru would have to go. It had been almost ten minutes, and Naraku needed to finish the job and take Kagome before the others showed up.

They were closing in, he could feel it.

All he needed to do was wait for Kagome to be out of sight. Kagome went upstairs for the bathroom, and the opportunity had presented itself. It was almost too easy, "Say, Naraku, I've been wanting to talk to you about something," The two young men where in the kitchen, and Naraku's hand shuffled through the utensils drawer, "It's…I'm not trying to say that you've done anything wrong, but I need to know about it."

"About what?" Silently, he slipped a sharpened butcher knife from the compartment, Sesshomaru's back to him. This was just, too perfect, "You can tell me, I won't get mad…"

"You and I were both at the Masquerade Ball…but I'm sure you know who the real Kai; that's been trying to comfort Kagome through her tuff times really is…" It was at that moment that Naraku lunged, "So tell me, Naraku why did you have the same mask? Why did you claim to be me – Ugh!" And into his side, did the blade puncture.
