Tris's POV
Monday comes around and I'm already sick of the medication. Most of it is for my concussion but some helps bone growth. Tobias is always telling me to eat more which is really getting in my nerves. It's not my fault I don't eat a lot. I'm excited to show up at school not dead today. I'm not really sure what to expect.
"You have to drive my car," I tell Tobias as we eat cereal. "Why?" He asks with him mouth full.
"Because I can't drive and I can't get in the truck." I explain. He takes another bite and says "I could just carry you again."
"We are not having this fight. You know I'm tired of getting carried everywhere." He smirks. "Speaking of things you're tired of doing..." He points his spoon towards the bottles of pills in front of me. I glare at him as I uncap and swallow.
"You know I can carry your back pack for you." I carefully make my way down the steps. I can't decide if the crutches make it easier or harder to walk. I throw them into the back of my eclipse and trip into the front seat. I hold my side and take a deep breath. I grab my back pack and pull out a small orange tube. "Did you bring water with you?" Tobias hands me half a bottle of warm Mountain Dew. "Gross, I'm not drinking that."
"Fine," he goes to throw it in the back but I take it from his hand. I try to ignore his smirk as I suffer through the disgusting carbonated syrup.
I walk down the hallway with my backpack stuffed with my books. The crutches take up more room than I'm used to so people usually make a path for me. I'm not sure how I feel about it. This whole thing is kind of weird. Everyone stares at me a lot too. I'm relieved when I get to home room. I (literally) fall into the seat next to Chris.
"Wow, I didn't think you would actually come to school today." She says surprised. "Why wouldn't I?" The bell rings before I get answer. I go as fast as I can to my next class.
Math is brutal. The numbers seem to taunt me. I can hear my heart beat in my brain going thump, thump; thump...I shake my head and continue working on the equations. The bell seems to take a lot longer to ring than usual. And when it does it hurts, as if the bell were in my head. Soon enough I have gym class. Obviously I'm out for the rest of the semester, if not longer. I stumble into the gymnasium and take a seat in the bleachers. Today I find out who the new gym teacher is. I hear a whistle blow and cringe, along with everyone else. A tall muscular man walks in. He has a crew-cut and three eyebrow piercings.
"Today we'll be doing combat. Your partners are on the chalkboard. Get to it." I watch as he walks past me. The teacher ID connected to the lanyard on his belt says Eric something. I watch people fight, lie down, and do all sorts of boring things as a wait for next period. I don't think I picked the right day to come back. But then again it beats being home alone.
"Are you sure you don't need help?" Tobias asks as we leave the gym. "No I got this."
"Okay," he gives me a kiss and walks off to his next class. I continue my slower, more pathetic walk towards the elevator. Suddenly one of my crutches slips and I fall. The wind gets knocked out of me and I feel severe pain on my side. "Whoa Stiff, didn't see ya there." I watch Peter run off as I gasp for air. I run as fast as I can but I'm still late for Spanish. I don't seem to be in trouble though. I guess it's expected that I'll be late sometimes.
Lunch isn't so bad. I just have to sit while everybody else eats. I just don't like the noise. I can't really do anything about that though. I try not to act all romantic when Uri's around for obvious reasons, but I'm too tired not to rest my head on Tobias's shoulder. I hold his hand under the table, although I usually do that. Everywhere we go we hold hands. I'm not sure why I like it so much but I do.
"How's your first day back?" Shauna asks.
"Awful," I mutter.
"What happened?" She asks in a concerned voice. I sit up a little bit so she can hear me better. "It's a whole mix if things I guess. Class makes my head hurt, the crutches make my arms hurt, Peter makes my ribs hurt-"
"Wait Peter?" Tobias asks, budding in.
"Yeah, he tripped me after P.E. earlier. I don't really care. It just hurts for a while." Shauna has a questionable look on her face.
"Why do you keep letting him do this stuff to you?" She asks.
"If I could fight back I would. Trust me. For now I just have to deal with it. I really don't care." I regret mentioning it. I feel Tobias's grip tighten on me. "Ow stop that." I push him away.
I suffer through the rest of the day and make it home. I'm not allowed to receive homework for three weeks which makes Tobias jealous. I lie on one end of the couch while he does his homework on the other. My boot sits on the ground next to me. He looks too old to be 17. Well almost 18. I just can't believe I'm two years younger than him. We're only in the same grade because I skipped a year and he was held back from missing too much school. Before he told he was ditching, but I think it was really because of his father. I watch his face as he reads. He looks cute when he furrows his brow.
"What?" He asks. "Why are you starring at me?" I shrug.
"Am I not allowed to?" I sit up and move closer to him. "What subject are you working on?"
"English," he mumbles. "I can't figure out these damn metaphors."
"Well who are you reading?"
"Poe"
"Its death." I say instantly.
"You don't even know what I'm reading." He says dismissively. "If there's a metaphor by Poe it usually symbolizes death." I say. "What poem is it?"
"The Raven."
"It's death." I confirm. "Whatever," he says, still deep in thought. I laugh lightly. "What?" He demands.
"Nothing, you're just cute when you concentrate." I don't usually say those kinds of things but I'm high on all these drugs so I don't really care. "You're acting kind of weird, are you feeling okay?"
"You mean besides my broken bones and concussion? I'm okay." He grins. "Yeah you're okay."
"Four?" I say. "Hm?" He replies not looking away from his textbook. "Four," I say more demandingly. I put my finger on one side of his chin and turn his face toward me. "Put down the book please." He throws his notes in his bag and gives me his full attention.
"I'm finally out of that cast. I want to do something fun now." I push my forehead against his. Slowly we come closer until our lips collide. I lean back and his body follows without breaking our seal. He has his hands on my hips and my hands find their way to his back and neck. I move my hand to his cheek and drop my head down to the couch cushion. I brush my thumb over his lips.
"I don't want to go too fast," I tell him. "That's okay," he says, kissing me again. "I love you," I say running my fingers through his short, dark hair. "You say that a lot," he comments giving me another slow, passionate kiss. "Is that bad?"
"No, I love it." I smile and bring my face back up to his.
"Well then, I love you." He kisses me one last time. I wrap my arms around his neck. I move to my left so he can lie down next to me. He wraps his arms around me from behind. I lie against him and fall asleep like that.
So I'm not really good with kissing scenes but I tried. I really hope you guys like it. I think it's the kind of fluff you were looking for. I always kind of felt awkward about putting out things like this but I think its okay.
