Demon's Light chapter 36

There once was a man named Gyro

I AM SO SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG

IRL last year and prior weren't the greatest for me. A lot of down's rather than up's and I couldn't bring myself to be online most of the time. But now that things are gradually getting better, I'm going to finally get down to finishing this story! I doubt anyone is even following this anymore but it's still only four more chapters left plus epilogue chapter, I gotta keep going! (I don't want to end up like Togashi haha). It'll be weekly updates for this story since I've finished doing the rest of the chapters. I'm still trying to catch up with a lot of people and fanfics so if you review, please remind me if I was reading one of your fics and I'll do my best to catch up and review! :O

And note for people that know me on FB! I keep feeling guilty that I haven't been on it for so long now so...let me prepare my kokoro lol;

Disclaimer: I do not own Hunter x Hunter

RECAP!

Leora hopped back to the human realm with Hisoka's help and then the clown ditched her. Then she goes running off to find Kurapika and get him to answer the godforsaken phone when she finds a cool anime bookmark she planned to sell on ebay! But alas, that bookmark is possessed by Pairo! Who is inside the bookmark and is the image in front of it and magic is weird. And it gets even weirder when Illumi drops in and Leora accuses him as an l'oreal commercial girl with long sexy hair. And thus the moment of awkward silence between Leora, Pairo the bookmark and Illumi, Killua's sadistic older brother who clearly doesn't understand Leora's sarcastic humor.

Oh and Kurapika is fighting Kuroro and Gon and Killua tries to track Leora down by returning to the human realm only to meet Killua's dad and grandfather who are on a secret mission blahblah. Oh and Neon's castle is on fire, but it'll be fine spoiler not spoiler really but idk ppl.

"Uhhhhhhhhh." Back and forth Pairo and Leora stared at Illumi who was approaching them ever so slowly.

"Hmmm, Killu's scent is still on you."

"Killu?" Leora keeps on stepping back. "Wait...Do you mean Killua? You know her?"

"Yes of course. The last time we met...you were asleep."

"Wait asleep? So..." Killua didn't recall much of Killua mentioning her family, and even when she did Killua didn't sound happy talking about them. "Uhhhhh." Leora decides to go with her gut instinct. "I was just passing by so, you continue what you're doing...and I'll continue what I'm doing! Capiche? Comprehend? Okay, bye bye!"

Leora attempted to run away from Illumi but was caught from behind. He wrapped his arm around her neck. "And where do you think you're going...human?"

"Great, I knew he was another bad guy!" Leora did the 'yep this just got worse' face.

"Hey! Let Leora-san go!" Pairo demanded confidently with his small childish voice.

"Why would I let this opportunity go to waste when I can use this girl against Killu?" Illumi took a moment to look at Leora who was gritting her teeth and eyebrows furrowed in anger. "No matter. Human, you shall come with me."

"Like hell!" She swiftly pulls the gun out of her pocket and with a loud bang, she shoots Illumi's foot. This caused him to topple back, holding his leg in pain (even though his face didn't show it that much). Leora was able to retreat from that position and dashed off like her life meant it. "Just keep running, just keep running! Running! I'm so done with this!" Yup, just keep swimming Leora!

"Run, run, run!" Pairo could only encourage Leora from inside the bookmark.

"I hope he isn't following..." Leora spoke too soon when she sees Illumi catching up to her from behind. He was running normally but to Leora, he looked absolutely terrifying with his emotionless eyes. "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Leora pumped out as much stamina as possible to increase her speed.

"Illumi? What are you doing?"

Illumi skids to a stop to face his grandfather Zeno. "I was after that human over there." He pointed...where Leora used to be. She didn't realize Illumi stopped so she kept on going without looking back. "Do humans use Holy Water weapons these day?" He pulled the bullet out with a bit of trouble (the tips of his fingers were burnt as he threw it away).

"I don't think holy water is a staple in this dimension. Goodness gracious, I thought you went off somewhere after you got home but I never expected you in this dimension of all places!"

"I was searching for Killu, and by the smell of it, you've encountered her," Illumi faces his grandfather. "Where?"

"Now hold your gryphon's, your father and I have a mission, and you should join us too while we're at it," Zeno throws a small scroll over to Illumi and he catches it with ease. "The Ryoudan is here. The king says it's the best time to sweep them all up in one go."

"The king? Which one?" Illumi read the information on the scroll.

"You weren't at the meeting so I'm not obligated to reveal all the details. It's confidential. We're getting paid bigger bucks than what's initially stated...even though it can't possibly get any higher!" Zeno swerves his head in the other direction. "Come on, we got things to do."

A long dragged out sigh came out of Illumi thinking how wondrously convenient it was for Zeno to appear the exact moment he was about to initiate his actions. "You're doing this on purpose aren't you? Don't tell me you're for that human being with Killu?"

"Well unlike you and the fact you refuse to get a mate, at least Killu is more willing! Our line of assassins has to continue one way or another. I don't even care if that boy is a human." All he cares about are grandchildren it seems.

"You're being selfish." Illumi reprimanded him.

"And so are you. Now, are you coming or not?"

Knowing that disobeying him would have the opposite effect, Illumi reluctantly agrees. "Yes grandfather."

"Report. What's happening on your side?"

"Nothing out of the ordinary for now. There are barely any humans left to kill off. I think we've swept it clean Shalnark. We should move onto the next city soon, this dimension is huge after all." Machi held up her cellphone. She was standing on a roof of a building, watching the chaos unfold from a far. She was taking a break to check in on everyone. "How are the others?"

"It's seems like Uvogin and Franklin came back with Danchou earlier. Kurapika is with them too. Uvogin is down for now, but it'll take a while before he gets up again. Paku, Bono, Kortopi and Shizuku are facing some problems though."

"Oh? What kind?" She asked.

"From what we've confirmed so far, it's two assassins from the Zoldyck family. Wait a second Machi..." Shalnark hangs up but she didn't have to wait that long for him to call her back. "There's a third Zoldyck on the loose actually, and there's reports of the female Zoldyck and Ging's son with her around the area. Phinks just texted me about it."

"I had a feeling. Knowing that they would bring Kurapika over would warrant them to come here as well. Should I take care of them?" She unwinds her strings in preparation.

"Franklin and Feitan are closer to their location so I'll let them handle it for now. You're here for back up but I want you to check on Paku and the others. I'm a bit worried for some reason."

"Same. I get that they can handle themselves, but something feels off. Especially with the Zoldyck assassins appearing right when we came here. It's suspicious." Machi noted with this newfound information Shalnark told her.

"As if they anticipated us coming here. You think there's another party involved?"

"Possibly."

"Instincts?" Shalnark was smirking on the other side.

"You bet," She clicks her tongue. "It's probably someone with a higher influence than any other creature here."

"Well your instincts are usually right on the money." Shalnark chuckles, "When I get more info, I'll feed it over to you. I'm going to see if I can wake Uvo up."

"Good luck with that. You might need beer." She gives him a tip.

"You seriously think I can find a huge can in the current size he's in? It's better if I just slap Uvo up."

Machi snorted. "Have fun. Don't get eaten." She teases when she hangs up on her side. "It's so weird."

"What~? Do you mean me?"

Machi could only let out a gasp when her feet were bounded to the ground and her hands were pinned behind her back. "Hisoka!" She seethed, "Where the hell have you been?! What's the meaning of this?!"

"Oh but before that, you should complement me more~" Hisoka flicks back his hair.

"I wasn't complimenting you. Unhand me now!"

"Aww, but I'm doing this for your own good~ You see, this is the perfect scene to fight Kuroro in!"

"Are you crazy?!"

"Crazy enough for you~" He kisses a tuff of her hair and she pulls herself away from him fiercely.

"Let me go or I'll kill you!"

"Oo~ I love the sound of that." Hisoka licks his lips, "As much as I would like to, I'm saving you for last."

"What was that?!"

"I'm the kind of person that likes eating my favorite food on my plate last." Hisoka spreads his wings, floating several feet above the trapped Machi. "Anyhow, be a good girl and stay put. I'll be back soon~"

"SCREW YOU!" Machi's entire aura turns black as a shadow projects from her body. A shadow, it was her own shadow that was leaping into the air howling at Hisoka.

"As expected from a witch~" Hisoka's smile widened as he prepares for a fight of his life...

Punches were thrown, claws slashed and clashed...

Kuroro and Kurapika were head to head with each other.

Like a magician, Kuroro used the long cloth to drape it over himself to disappear and then reappear behind Kurapika to kick him towards another building. Which proved to be successful as his body went through several of them but he springs himself out, with his wings unsheathed and his head temporarily transforming into a dragon. Using his long neck to his advantage, he swipes away the cloth using his mouth and munches on it...only to spit it back out.

Kuroro closed the book in his hand making the cloth disappear and instead brings out his outdoor fish out to hunt after Kurapika. They latched and nibbled on his scales causing him to revert his head back to normal. Spinning himself downwards, he gathered a group of chains fisted in his hands and shoots them out, getting all of the fish trapped as if they were on a leash. With some forcible magic he sent out in his chains, he targets the fishes at Kuroro gaining control over them

Dancing in the air, Kuroro evades them one by one as he zoomed in closer to Kurapika and grabbing the fist full of chains with one hand and slamming him down with his book with his other hand. Kurapika shot down to a roof of a building with a slam. Despite it being a book, it held tremendous powers of strength if it forced Kurapika down that low. A crater formed behind Kurapika back by the impact.

Kuroro closes his book again making the outdoor fish disappear and he lands beside Kurapika. Kurapika tries to get up before Kuroro could do anything but it was too late. Kuroro raised him up, grasping Kurapika neck like a noose.

"Damn you!" Kurapika seethes.

"I think it's about time you give up Kurapika, you can't do this anymore." Kuroro shakes his head which enrages the blond even further.

"What makes you think I would stop-ack!" Kuroro tightens the grip on Kurapika's neck.

"I'm sorry it has to be like this Kurapika...but don't worry. I'll make sure to never forget you," Kuroro smiles.

"What the heck do you mean?! I refuse to go like this!" Kurapika shakes his legs in a vague attempt to retreat.

"P-Put him down, right now!" A shaky voice calls out.

The two demons turns their head to the source of that voice. "Leora?!" Kurapika head shot towards her.

Leora had the gun held up high and it was trembling in her hands when she pointed it at Kuroro. Fear overcame her knowing the real truth behind Kuroro's actions and she didn't want to pull the trigger...so that's why there were tears welling up in her face. She was terrified at the same time knowing that she was possibly going head to head with him again. "Kuroro, I know you don't want to do this!" She was going to find Gon and Killua but she and Pairo ended up seeing the two land close by so her legs brought her here before she knew it.

"Well if it isn't the human who slapped me," Kuroro lips curved in to a smile.

"I can do more than just slap you, but enough of that! Put Kurapika down! I know how to use this thing so you better do what I say!"

"Oh?" Kuroro hums amused.

"We can talk about this! I know you really don't want to do any of this, Pairo told me everything!"

"Pairo?" Kurapika sounded shock to hear his name come out from her.

"Over here! Kurapika!" Pairo waves at Kurapika. The bookmark was in her breast pocket where Pairo has a better view. "Kurapika! Wow, your hair did grow! Leora-san was right!"

There was a shine in Kurapika eyes that slowly watered from pure relief and happiness, "Pairo!"

"Okay, put him down, let him hug Pairo and I'll be the one talking to you buster." Leora takes a hesitant step forward. "We can work this out, I don't know much about that scythe thing-" Kuroro frowns immediately. "Hold it! Before you say anything else, let me get this off my chest...From the way Pairo talks about you makes me thing you still care about Kurapika. I don't know your real background, but if you really do care about him let me go. We'll talk like civilized beings and then hopefully we can stop all of this madness." There was a long pause after that and Leora was hoping Kuroro was going to say something but he didn't. "Uhh, you're free to talk now."

"You told her Pairo?" Kuroro raises his eyebrow.

"Everything that I understood! Kurapika, it's okay!" Pairo exclaimed, "Don't hurt him, we can figure this out together."

"What do you mean? He was the one who slaughtered our people in the first place!" Kurapika yells.

"That's not true!" Pairo objects.

"Huh?" Both Leora and Kurapika gapes questionably.

"It was the death scythe all along in the book because it took over him in the beginning! It's not his fault then, nor now! He said when he came too, he was the only one left with memories and everything and when he realized what happened-"

"Hold it!" Kurapika smacks Kuroro's hand, ushering him to release his hold. "In the end you went with Omokage's idea and got that scythe in the end?!"

Kuroro remained silent.

"Answer me!" Kurapika grabs the collar of his shirt.

"Kurapika calm down!" Leora tries to stop him.

"It's true." He sighs, "Even now the scythe is whispering at me to kill you. It consumes me. The only way I can stop it is to eradicate everyone from all the realms of the universe." He takes Kurapika's wrist, lowering it from his collar. He briskly walks over to Leora and immediately, Kurapika leered at him. "I won't hurt her, if that's what you're wondering." Kurapika watched him like a hawk while Leora took a step back.

"T-Then what are you up to?" Leora lowers the gun, but unrepentantly, Kuroro holds her wrist and brings it up to himself.

"Each holy water bullet carries at least 500ml of real holy water, correct?"

"Eh...yeah, sure?" Leora didn't know the logistics' behind the weapon, she just uses it.

Kuroro recalled when Leora last shot him by his leg. He felt a bit of severance from the Death Scythe itself but there was still everyone in the Genei Ryoudan that he couldn't leave behind. Knowing the effects of the bullet, a smile crept on his face. He held the Skill Hunter book for Leora to see.

"Finally I know the answer...to end this once and for all. Everyone...Nobunaga...We can be free at last..." He then smiled at Kurapika...for the last time. "With this Kurapika...I free you from your curse."

Gun shots were fired...directly at the Skill Hunter book...

"Pairo isn't feeling well...Mom, what should I do?" Eons upon eons ago, a young Kurapika sulked as he stares at his mother for advice.

"Well dear, he's going be bored sitting in bed all day...how about you write a story for him!" She clapped happily.

"A story?"

"You can draw pictures and say your story out loud to entertain him." Kurapika's father pitched in. "It's not too hard, we have some coloring utensils here."

"Really? It should be filled with all the colors of the rainbow dear! Kurapika, you're going to make history!" His mother lifts him off the ground causing him to laugh.

"But we don't have any paper left." Her mate reminded her.

"Oh hush. I'm sure we'll find something. Let's wait for a merchant to pass by, okay sweetie?" She nuzzled her son's cheek.

Days later a merchant did pass by their small desolate village, a man dressed up in a cloak using several cloths to cover his face. "Oh wow..." Kurapika awed as he picked up one book in particular. The title of the book was called...

"Ah yes, the Skill Hunter. Quite the impeccable piece." The merchant allows Kurapika to hold it.

"What is it about?"

"It's my finest piece of work. You can store many abilities and powers within however there's a particular page that allows dreams to come true."

Kurapika gasped. "Even stories?!"

"Even stories. If you like, you can have it if you're interested."

"I only have umm ummm," Kurapika stuffed his hands into his pockets. "70 ferals on me! I saved up a lot!"

"Oh my, then I'll let you have it for 30 how about that..."

"Kurapika!" He introduced himself. "And your name mister?" He passes the coins and in return hugs the book he recieved.

"Little old me? Ha, it's strange. It's been such a long time since anyone has asked my name." Even though his mouth was covered by his scarf, and a hood covering his head, Kurapika could see a small twinkle in his eyes in-between the clothing.

"I'm known as Gyro."

From that day onwards, no one ever saw the merchant ever again.

"And you see, we can name him uhh Nobunaga! And he can be uhh, Uvogin! They're best friends!" Kurapika showcased his drawings to his parents.

"Then how about those ones?"

"That Kortopi, he's small like me but he's really strong! Oh and this is Shalnark and he's really, really smart! Pakunoda has this magical gun thing that can do all sorts of stuff and Machi is really cool!"

"See how creative our child is? He's only four and look at him!" Kurapika's mother gushes.

"He's your son. I only live here." Kurapika's father jokes. "But since this is such a large group of people, I think you have to make a leader...don't you think?" He suggests to his son with a wink.

"Oh I have one see, see?" Kurapika points to the one in the middle, "His name is Kuroro!"

"They beat up the bad guys and their codename is: The Spiders! Dun dun dunnnn!" Kurapika who was in the middle of his story telling. He was dramatizing the whole thing in the most epic manner that he could muster at that age.

"Wow! That's so cool!" Pairo claps, "What next? What next?"

"And then they-Ow!" Kurapika felt a jolt coming from the book making him drop it to the ground.

"What's wrong?" Pairo got up from the bed.

"It got hot?" Kurapika wasn't too sure how to word it. He attempts to pick it up but the pages suddenly turn back to the one Kurapika was at. He used two of the empty pages Gyro recommended to write his story on and he simply drew a bunch of scribbly characters.

Strangely one by one, each of the characters Kurapika drew emerged out of the book. Pairo and Kurapika had their jaws drop in awe as these tall people appeared in front of their eyes.

"Kurapika..." Pairo tugs his sleeve. "This is...so awesomeeee!" He squeals.

As Kuroro was the last person to come out, Kurapika stepped forward, "Kuroro?" He asked questionably. Excited that his creations somehow came to life.

The man smiles, bending down to Kurapika and Pairo's level. "I see, so both of you are our creators."

"Creators?" They both tilt their heads.

"It would be a bit troublesome if someone knew the source of our being..." He picks up the book from the floor. "I'm terribly sorry for this, we will stay by your side for as long as we can. However, you and anyone else near mustn't remember where we came from for your safety." He flips to a certain page and pulls something out.

Kurapika blinks confused, "Wait, we don't understand. What are you-"

Kurapika only remembered everything turning black at that moment.

"Kurapika! Kurapika get up!"

Kurapika tosses and turns before opening his eyes again. "Ugh, Leora? What happened?"

"It-it's all my fault! I shouldn't have- I'm so so sorry!" She shakes his shoulders frantically. "You just passed out when it happened, I don't know why!"

"Leora-san, it wasn't your fault!" Kurapika could tell both of them had tears in their eyes. Pairo was wiping his face as best as he could, "Kuroro took the gun and...hic..and!"

"He just shot all of the rounds into the book and he just turned into dust a black mist of sorts-See? Even more is coming!" Leora points out in the distance.

"What do you..." Kurapika couldn't continue when he saw a collection of other dark particles coming from all different directions. They went directly inside the book.

The page that was revealed...was Kurapika's old drawing from his dream. Now that he's witnessing it in real time though, he knew for sure that dream was a suppressed memory. There was a part of the page that was ripped and he remembered that was the part where Omokage was drawn on...Kurapika figured that's why he never revived.

"No..." He planted his hands on the ground, just looking at the picture. One by one the members appeared in the exact positions that was in his dream. The black mist wasn't just some strange sandy like substance. "The ink...the same one I used..."

Nobunaga was already there waiting for the others to join him. Unknowing to Kurapika and the others, something flew out hiding itself behind all the ink that was returning to the book. "I'm...I'm...I'm so stupid!" He punches the surface.

"Kurapika?!" Pairo and Leora blurts out simultaneously. They both noticed at that precise moment that tears were streaming down his face.

"It was a lie...from the very beginning!" Kurapika berated himself, "He didn't just spring out of nowhere, he hid that from us to protect us! And that scythe was the reason..."

"It goes from host to host! And Kuroro couldn't control it because-"

"He never existed in the first place..." Kurapika complete for Pairo, covering his eyes. "A being that wasn't born naturally can't control a powerful existence like that."

"But didn't you mention that the grim reaper went missing?" Leora remembered thankfully.

"They did! So that why they chose Kuroro as the new host!" Pairo explained for her.

"Hey, Kurapika...shhh, I know this is all hard. It's gonna be okay." Leora pulled him into a gently hug. Soothing him with light pats and waiting for the tears to stop flowing.

"How could I?! I've been so awful...I've been trying to kill them all for centuries!"

"It wasn't your fault! Kuroro cursed you to go after him since he said he'd rather be killed by you than continue being in the scythe's control." With Pairo saying that, it didn't make Kurapika's conscious any better.

"Hey listen, maybe you didn't get what you really wanted in the end but at least you have so many other things, and people here. Look, your cousin is alive. You should be happy about that. The spiders can't cause trouble anymore and no one can come after them now that they are in the book again. Hey, maybe even you can protect the book this time!" Leora attempts to cheer him up, "I mean come on, I bet they understand why you did what you did. Heck they made you do it. How about returning the favor? Knowing you're from a magical world maybe you can bring them back?"

"I...can bring them back?"

"Well hell if I know! I don't know your magic stuff but heck, why not? You gotta try if the possibility is out there, right?"

"You're...right." He calms down, clearing the tears away from his face. "You're always right."

"Speaking of write..." It was the wrong right, but it was still relevant, "look at the pages. What happened to them?" Pairo asked.

The pages of the Skill Hunter looked faded and withered from age, which wasn't how it looked like earlier. Kurapika skimmed through the pages, "He...had a phoenix tear this whole time...but with the book like this, I can't extract anything from it. It lost its power for some reason-Where's the scythe?!"

"What?! It's not in there!" Leora looks at the book as well.

"It should be there! Page 66! Even I remember!" Pairo offers his knowledge.

"It's not here...did it already leave to find another host?" Kurapika wondered.

"It can't choose a human host...wouldn't it go back home to our world?" Pairo tilts his head.

"Perhaps...I'm not too sure how this scythe operates."

"Well since we're talking about going back...how are we going to get Pairo out of this thing?" Leora pointed at the bookmark.

"You have a point...how did you find him by the way?" Kurapika finally takes the bookmark into his hands.

"Err...on the floor...literally." There's no way she was going to tell Kurapika that she was about to sell Pairo on Ebay. "But the main thing is, even if we do get him out, he gotta live somewhere so how about I adopt him!"

"Hah?"

"Temporarily, I bet you're going to go around world's finding out how to get this book working again. Pairo's still a kid right?" Leora points at him.

"Right!" The young demon chirped. "Tipscally!"

"Physically." Kurapika corrected him with a chuckle.

"Someone's gotta look after this kid cause if it were me, I ain't sending this kid back to your home world by himself. He's too cute for you to handle."

"Then how about I propose this to you," Kurapika holds out Pairo to her and she assumed he was passing him to her but when she touches the other end, Kurapika keeps holding on to his side tightly. "How about we adopt him together? Then both of us will be his parents, how about that? There's no way I'm pushing all the responsibility to you, Pairo is important to me as well."

"Wow, Kurapika is my dad...hahaha!" Pairo giggles.

"Wow...really?" Leora blushed and hope what Kurapika was indirectly insinuating was actually real and not just something her head just made up at that moment.

"Really. Would you like to? With me?" Kurapika worded it hesitantly.

"Of course! Pairo, you in for us or what?" She asked the demon child.

"Yep! Now kiss and ride into the sunset with a pony!" Kuroro...read too many romance books to Pairo it seems.

"WHAT?! NO?!" Both adults freaked out.

"Mmmmm..." Pairo groaned. "Then the cheek?" He suggested.

"Err..." The two glance at each other with redden faces. With a leap of faith, Leora pecks him quickly on the cheek and pulls away before anything else can happen.

"T-That's all you're going to get for now!" Leora crossed her arms with her face still flushed.

Kurapika's head right now: 'Oh no, I feel like I'm exploding on the inside. Leora kissed me, I must control my instincts.'

Little did the three know, someone was coming towards them...

A bit before that, after Killua's father and grandfather departed from them, Gon and Killua began searching the city for Leora. They decided to cover higher ground since the city was a wasteland. Killua flew up to the tallest building and Gon went across to another building.

"Uwa! Killua, look!" Gon pointed out. She swoops in and pulls back her wings to land beside Gon to see what he was pointing at. They saw Uvogin's body laying still and was still dormant. "Is he dead?"

"I don't think so, he's probably regenerating. And since his body is way too big, it's taking a while. It's better to get away from here." Killua steps on the ledge to take a closer look. "It's not the same black mist stuff like last time so it's safe to say he's gonna rise from the dead soon and Kurapika will be all over him."

"Heh...do you think your dad and grandfather being here has to do with the Ryoudan?"

"Probably. There're still hiding something for sure but it's nothing we should really concern ourselves with."

"I guess...I don't think Leora in this side of town though."

"Neither do I. She might be on the other side." She pauses to take a look at him, "How...are you holding up?"

"I'm fine!" He chirps.

"I mean...the whole stone thing..."

"Oh um..." Gon stops to think, peering at his hand. "It kinda feels like I'm slower in a way but it's nothing to worry about!"

"It's everything to worry about Gon. This is you we're talking about here. Ugh, Kurapika dang it. Just let me know when you're in any pain."

"I think I'll be fine." Gon answers sheepishly scratching the back of his head. "Let's head out?" Gon takes out his hand.

"Fine." Killua stretches out hers as well, with a small smirk on her face. The building underneath them begins to shake as they heard a huge slam. Both of them shot their heads to see Uvogin's hand slamming against the building they were on top of. "He's getting up already?!" She saw a person poking at him to get up and realized it was Shalnark.

"Killua we should go!" They were both close to falling over from the impact. Gon stumbles onto his feet to grab Killua's hand to pull her over.

"Wait, I sense something nearby!" She pulls back. "Where are they?!"

"Killua we gotta-" From the corner of Gon's eye, he knew something wasn't right. What he saw were fleeting debris, Gon pulls Killua over. "Killua look out!"

What Gon didn't expect was to see liters of his own blood flying everywhere. What he saw instead of debris was a long sword and sneering eyes. From that he knew, the blood splatter was on purpose.

However, he couldn't describe the unimaginable wave of pain that hit him when he saw his right arm flop to the ground.

He only let out a painful scream.

"Tch, I missed. I meant to get the demon first." Feitan hissed.

"YOU!" Killua automatically twists herself to face Feitan and propel herself forward enraged.

"Hm." The shorter demon smirk, "I guess you'll be the first to witness the rising sun."

Killua didn't care what the heck he was talking about, she was more concerned about pushing the guy away so she has an easier chance to flee with Gon.

With a giant hot meteor showing up, taking Feitan's place, Killua's eyes widened. She backpedaled towards the injured Gon and tried to fly away from the building.

The meteor and another smack of Uvogin's giant hand cause the hot object and the building to collide, and that forceful impact pushed Killua back with the debris hitting her. "Oi! I'll take it from here. Move on!" Franklin yelled from a far preparing another round of bullets."

"Fine," Feitan merely opens his umbrella and floated away with the wind.

With the building crumbling down, both Gon and Killua started to fall. Grinding his teeth still in great pain, Gon peaks one of his eyes open to see that he was falling and Killua was falling as well. "Kill-ua." He lets out a painful whine, "It hurts! It hurts, hurts, hurts!" With only his left hand to use, he reaches out to Killua as best as he could. "What should I do? Think!" As Gon was panicking in pain, he tightly embraced Killua with his arm. It loosen slightly knowing that his body was too weak to really use his other arm (since it wasn't there) so he used his legs to wrap around her thighs. He turned his back towards Franklin in case he were to shoot at them. "Killua, wa...ke up." Gon voice was ragged as he called for her but whatever hit Killua earlier knocked her out cold.

"There's got to be a way, there's got to be a way!" Gon breathed heavily, "I-I can't think of anything! Damnit!" He furiously shook his head refusing to accept that fact.

Something suddenly flew on his eye lid and cheek. When he opened his eyes, he noticed that it was blood that was flown up at his face. He saw that on the side of Killua's forehead was bleeding.

"Blood?"

"You can't drink any blood at all, especially Killua's." Kurapika begins to explain to him. "If you do then the gargoyle's blood will revert back to Killua's demon blood instantly, turning you and then killing you. If you weren't bitten by a vampire you could've survived being turned but since you were, your constitution is extremely weak right now and it'll probably be a painful experience for you if you tried."

That...was the answer...

"If I can turn, even if I last for only a minute, I can probably fly away and get Killua to safety!" He thought determined. "I don't want Killua to die!" He hugged her even tighter than before not just in pain but the fact that he was really letting go of her...in more ways than one.

His arms trembled as he continue to hold Killua shakily, "But Killua...Killua..." As he continued to chant her name in his head, images of her appeared in his head. "She's really important to me!" As he got hit by a hard concrete block behind his back, he crouched himself so he would bear the pain. "But I don't want to die either!"

Gritting his teeth in determination this time, he pulls Killua closer to him, "I'm sorry." He whispers...as he takes a lick of her bleeding forehead.

What he felt was worse than his arm being chopped off.

It felt like over millions of electrical watts were surging coursing through his veins. Crouching his body as he felt the biggest and the tiniest changes his body was going through. He struggled to maintain his grip on Killua when he felt the flashes of heat his body underwent but more importantly, he saw a glimpse of Franklin. It was blurred but he saw Franklin fade into a black mist just like Nobunaga did.

That didn't stop him from attempting to grow wings out of his back. He recalled when he was healing Killua's wings that it was a pure extension of her body. He thought as hard as he could and eventually with a ripping screech did red wings emerged from his back, soaring towards a building to land as safely as he could...

With the amount of pain however, Gon couldn't think straight as he plummeted straight through a building and crashed by the window before tumbling himself to the ground. Killua rolled a few feet away from him but Gon ends up coughing out blood. His wings recede back into his body by instinct and continues to expel blood from his body, collapsing to the floor. "I did it..." Gon voice strains slightly...He did it but, not without sacrificing his humanity and limbs.

"There they are...just as planned." A voice...that was strangely familiar but Gon couldn't guess from the pain drunk haze his mind was under. All he could see though were two figures. "Can you head back first? I need to handle the rest on my own. I need to confirm some things."

"Yes sir." A feminine voice that Gon wasn't familiar with spoke. He knew she just took her leave as he was left with this familiar person.

"N-No..." Gon quivered as he shakily started to crawl ever so slowly. The shadow figure came closer and closer towards him and Killua, "I won't...let you...near her...stay away!" He wheezed as he struggled to move forward.

His arm dropped back to the ground exhausted as more blood seeped out from his body. He coughed out at least a few milliliters of blood as he couldn't get up anymore. "Killua." Gon voice was hoarse as his eyes weld up in tears. He stretched out his left arm towards her, but she was still too far for him to reach.

He was too weak to move, too weak to help a defenseless Killua, he couldn't find Leora, and he couldn't keep his promise with Kurapika. Every single event of failure swirled in his head as he wanted to cuss his helplessness out loud, but he no longer had the strength to.

"It's...over?" Gon was slowly losing conscious. "Am I really going to die?" His vision began to blur as everything started to get darker and darker. "I gotta keep awake. I gotta stay aw-awake...I promised...I'll never regret..."

A flashback came to him of Gonta finding Killua last winter. And then several other flashbacks of his time together with Killua. The times they ate, the times they argued, their little competitions, the times when they both needed comfort, the many games they played, their tender yet passionate moments. All of them raced through Gon's head in less than three seconds.

"I'll never regret...that day..."

The last scene that flashed in his mind was finding Killua in the snow...

Then everything went dark.
