Molly Weasley was busy preparing the family dinner for this afternoon. She could not believe that two weeks had already passed since Ron had shown up out of the blue. That boy could be so unpredictable, she thought.

She was rolling another wrap of roast beef and cream cheese when she heard a light rap on the kitchen window. An owl, carrying a letter addressed to her. She sent it on its way after paying it a knut and tossing a slice of the roast beef, which it gratefully swallowed whole. Turning the letter in her hands, she noticed Ron's untidy scrawl. She had hoped that it would improve over the years, but no amount of practice and discipline could amend it beyond barely readable.

"Dear mom,

I will be frank. I have decided not to visit any family dinners from now on, including today. I'm sorry that I have to break this to you through a letter, but I felt it best to keep my distance from you all from now on. I have made an important decision in not allowing myself to hurt you any further, and though I will visit you regularly, I cannot but face the fact that my presence would ultimately be detrimental to everyone's happiness.

Ron."
