Chapter THIRTY FIVE

Lucy and Jellal appeared in their sleeping quarters in a swirl of black. Wendy with Carla in her arms landed neatly on her feet a second later.

The Sky Dragon Slayer turned to Lucy. "Lucy-san, why did we run all of a sudden." She giggled. "I'm pretty sure you didn't have anything important that needed to be done."

Lucy burst out laughing. "Do you want to pay for those idiots? Because I don't." Jellal chuckled and ran a hand through his hair.

Carla snorted. "Well, I certainly agree."

Wendy lowered her head and giggled. "Yeah, but I feel sorry for Rogue-san and Midnight-san."

Lucy turned to Wendy. "Sorry we couldn't tell you." She said. "Cobra can't read our thoughts, but sometimes, Dragon Slayer hearing can be really annoying."

Wendy smiled. "I can't wait to see their faces when they get back."

Rogue and Midnight glanced at each other. No matter how much they wanted to leave, they both knew that leaving Sting and Cobra behind would be disastrous. They did not want a reputation for becoming like Fairy tail.

Midnight sighed. "I wonder what they had to take care of." He said, then yawned. "Wake me when their done."

Rogue wordlessly nodded. He crossed his arms, and closed his eyes, trying to tune out the disgusting sounds the two Dragon Slayers made as they gobbled down the food.

Rogue glanced at the two exceeds. They had both fallen asleep after they had finished eating. He wondered how Frosch and Lector could both sleep through the noise.

Rogue was pretty certain this restaurant could run another year with all the money they would earn today.

He froze. He quickly glanced at Cobra, who seemed too busy eating to notice Rogue's trail of thoughts. He unconsciously reached into his pocket and grasped his wallet. He turned to Midnight, how was already fast asleep.

Keeping one eye on the two Dragon Slayers opposite them, Rogue swiftly kicked Midnight's shin. Midnight's eyes flew open and he opened his mouth to say something when Rogue shot him a look.

Rogue cleared his thoughts of his plan as much as possible and swiftly snapped his fingers, making Midnight look down. Rogue waved his wallet, hoping he would get the message.

Midnight's eyes widened and he glanced over at the Dragon Slayers. He gave Rogue a nod. Rogue took back his wallet and stood up. "If you do not mind, Midnight and I would like to go train for a while." He said.

Sting glanced up for a second, noodles flooding out of his mouth. "Hur." He said, which Rogue took as a 'Sure'. Rogue nodded. He gently slipped his hand under Frosch, and lifted him into his arms.

Midnight slipped out of their booth and Rogue followed. When a waitress approached them with a file, Rogue gestured towards the two still stuffing their mouths.

"They will pay." He said, then led the way out of the restaurant.

Midnight growled. "Jellal and the other left knowing this would happen."

Rogue nodded. "Though I can't technically blame them."

Suddenly, a short, nodded figure rushed past them, shoving something into Rogue's hands in the process. Rogue opened his mouth to say something, but the figure had already disappeared into the crowd.

Instead, he led Midnight out of the river of people and towards an empty park, where the two sat on a bench. Rogue inspected the object he held. "It's a scroll." He said.

Midnight simply nodded. "What does it say?" He asked.

Jellal, I know you're there.

Whatever you are doing, please let me help out.

"That's it?" Midnight asked.

Rogue nodded, flipping the scroll over to check. "Yeah." He stood up. "Let's give this to Jellal, and see what he says."

"Someone just gave this to you, and ran off?" Jellal asked, glancing at the scroll on the table.

Rogue nodded. "The person was gone before we could question them." He said.

Jellal nodded, and slowly unrolled it. His eyes moved rapidly as he read the two lines of words over and over again.

Lucy leaned over his shoulder. "Who do you think it is?" She asked.

Jellal read it again. "It's Meredy." He murmured.

Lucy turned to face him. "Meredy?" She asked. Jellal nodded.

"Oh. I though she was traveling with you." Lucy said. "Why didn't she come with you?"

"Same as you quitting the guild. I didn't want to get her involved." Jellal replied.

"She knows you're Jellal." Lucy said. "Plus maybe the best way to protect her is to have her close to you."

Jellal slowly nodded. "However, I have no means to contact her."

Lucy frowned. "Well, we have plenty of means to search through air." She said. "Didn't you follow her by the scent?" She asked Rogue.

Rogue shook his head. "There were too many people." He said.

Lucy nodded. "Okay, we still have some time before it's dark." She said. "Rogue and Wendy, can you fly around with Frosch and Carla?" Rogue nodded.

"Of course." Wendy said.

"Jellal and I will search as well." Lucy continued. She turned around and pulled out a few keys. "Ope, the gate of the Lion, the Maid, Loke, Virgo!"

The two spirits appeared in a flash of bright light. "What can we do for you, princess?" Loke asked, reaching out to grab her hand.

Lucy waved his hand away. "This is important." She said. "I need you two to look for Meredy." She paused. "You know Meredy, right?" The two spirits nodded. "Once you find her, please contact me." She added.

The two spirits nodded again.

"Oh, and also, watch out for Fairy tail." She said. "If they find you and they come to talk to you, return to the Spirit world, okay?"

The spirits nodded a third time. Lucy dismissed them and they disappeared out the quarters door.

"Midnight, I need you to stay here in case the two idiots come back when we are all gone."

Midnight groaned, but nodded nonetheless.

Jellal raised an eyebrow. "Since when did you know how to give orders like that."

Lucy grinned and flipped her hair over her shoulder. "I am a Heartfillia." She said. "I was taught to be like this." She said, then stood up. "Come on." She said. "If any of you find her, bring her back here then come find the rest of us."

Everyone nodded. The moment they were out of the building, Rogue and Wendy, along with their exceeds, flew off. Lucy and Jellal pulled their cloaks up. Lucy waved at Midnight, and closed the doors. "I'll head towards the city center." Lucy said.

Jellal nodded. "Then I'll go towards the stadium" He said. "If something comes up, tell me through Darque." Lucy nodded, and the two split paths.
