Chapter 36- The Finale
Six Months Later
Jayden and Mia's Residence
Reefside, CA
His classes for the day were done.
Jayden placed the key in the lock to his mailbox. Reaching inside, he grabbed everything. As he flipped through, he assumed most, if not all, were bills. Then a rectangular postcard decorated with the Aloha state stood out. He read the contents, as he headed to the two bedroom, two bathroom, luxury condo he shared with the love of his life and daughter.
"Babe," he called, after he entered.
Mia, the former Pink ranger and, now, mother and partner to Hart's Boutique, walked out of the Jayla's bedroom. "Sh," she shushed him. "I just put her to bed."
"Oops," he knew that was such a feat sometimes. Their daughter was a ball full of energy. It was like she was thinking she was going to miss something. For a six month old, she was extremely inquisitive. He led her to the kitchen, the farthest room away from their daughter's bedroom. Once inside, he grabbed her waist and planted a loving kiss on her lips.
She shrieked with happiness.
They were no longer fighting the residents of the Netherworld and operating Megazords, but they were tackling poop filled diapers and nurturing a growing baby girl.
At a whopping eight pounds and 13 ounces and 21" in length, Jayla Lauren Shiba Watanabe-Oliver entered the world. Even with no hair, she captured the hearts and attention of any person she came in contact with, especially her grandparents, Tommy and Kim. She was a cute little thing, and, when she opened her eyelids, her hazel eyes dazzled. She possessed the features of both of her parents.
The real challenge of being parents at the age of 18 began after mother and daughter were discharged. Jayden and Mia touched on the 'what's next' barely.
In the days following Jayla's birth, the little family traveled between three homes—the Oliver's, Watanabe's and the Shiba House. In each of those homes, there was a fully stocked nursery, and the parents had a room to sleep in. Though they were welcomed with open arms at the three homes, it was incomparable to having a place of their own.
One day, after rummaging through salvaged documents from Mathew's office, Jayden found out he was the last surviving heir to the Shiba Family fortune. It meant he owned the Shiba House, the cottage home in the woods, and one, safe deposit box located in the Panorama City National Bank. His net worth was estimated at an astounding 2.5 million dollars. He was filthy rich.
He consulted two business oriented men, Mr. Collins and Dr. Anton Mercer, with his dad by his side. He wanted to be smart about this and not blow every single dime over something frivolous. So, Jayden signed the deed to the cottage home to Mentor Yaki, as thanks for everything he's done. Regarding the Shiba House, he wished for Mentor Ji to stay there. A stipend account was also created for the two. With the money in the safe deposit box, he decided to purchase a condo for him and his family in Reefside to be closer to his parents, invested the money, so Mia could become a partner in the chain of Hart Boutiques, and the rest was tucked away for Jayla's college fund.
Now, that Mia was set with a stable job, he had to decide what to do with the rest of his life. It wouldn't be fair for Mia to be the only working parent.
While speaking to his own parents about the dilemma he's encountered, his dad asked, 'what can you see yourself doing?' That was a loaded question, one he didn't know the answer to because his life was surrounded with training and battling evil, then skewed a different direction with Mia's impending birth, then directed for the third time upon finding out he was adopted.
There was one aspect of his life he was certain of though.
'Act on it then...'
That one statement was the kick in his ass he needed.
He enrolled into continuation school, studied hard, passed, graduated with his GED, and he applied for Layola Marymount University in Los Angeles with the hopes of being accepted into Loyola Law School, so he could become a prosecutor. His parents funded his tuition, which he was extremely grateful for.
He was definitely on the right track to securing Jayla's future, and he hoped she never had to follow in his, or her mother's, or her grandparents' path.
He broke the kiss. If they continued, he would likely take her to their private sanctuary, and work on the baby number two.
Baby number one was enough.
"Look," he handed her the postcard.
Her eyes brightened. "Aw, Mike and Emily are enjoying their honeymoon," she spoke of the newlyweds. For the former Green and Yellow Samurai rangers, their tenure was done, but their love was everlasting. Just two weeks ago, they tied the knot in. Right after, they were on a plane and en route to Hawaii.
"You know, the ranger community thought we'd be the next ones to marry," he reminded her, as he went to the pantry.
"Yeah, but they beat us to the punch," she joked, genuinely happy for her best friends. She read over the much placid, compared to what they were used to anyways, but still exhilarating adventures the two were on. "'We send our love to and to Jayla as well, Mike and Emily Gonzalez.'" She smiled warmly. She ascended her head to see her boyfriend, the father to her daughter, standing there, looking at her. "What?"
He admired and soaked in how she looked. Despite a mother and career gal, she hadn't let herself go. She looked just as radiant as the first day he laid his eyes on her, the day she accepted her Samuraizer. The memories came at him; they've been through so much, and it's culminated into what he was about to do next.
He got on one knee.
Mia's eyes welled, her hands soared to her mouth. They were trembling because she hadn't expected this. "Jayden?"
"Your left, ring finger is looking empty..."
"Yeah," she hesitated a bit.
"I want to decorate it," he showed the black, velvet box he's been hiding in the kitchen, since he purchased it. He hadn't gathered the courage to ask her, so he supposed she would stumble and find it. He supposed it was up to him to secure their future as husband and wife. "Will you marry me?"
She had never been so certain about anything before. She nodded happily. "I would love to be Mrs. Oliver."
He slipped the diamond encrusted engagement ring onto the appropriate finger. His hands interlinked with hers, as he got on his feet. He watched her; she was longingly staring at the jeweled accessory. He kissed her again.
Their daughter started to wail, not too long later.
Jayden and Mia broke apart and stared at one another.
"Duty calls."
One Month Later
Shiba House
Panorama City, CA
Earth's been invaded again.
A new team of Power Rangers were now the guardians of the Earth.
Ji informed Jayden, Mia and Sophia, who were visiting him.
Jayla cooed and stared at everyone with wide eyes, while on one of her Godfather's lap. She smiled, giggled, enjoying being bounced by him.
"Are we," Sophia gestured herself, her brother, future sister in law and, of course, her niece, "in danger?" Though it's been several months since her two day ordeal on the side of evil, there was an underlying fear about being taken captive again.
"No, I don't think so. These are a new breed of monsters. None I've ever heard of," the elder answered honestly with one finger attached to Jayla's tiny hand. "I'll make sure to keep on eye on them."
His visitors exchanged concerned looks.
"Are you sure," Mia questioned in her fiance's arms, "I thought you were going to leave that life behind and look forward to your future."
"She's right," Jayden concurred. He knew old habits died hard, but he didn't think this visit would entail anything ranger related. He wanted to relieve Ji, he left out Mentor on purpose. His job as Mentor ended when he relinquished his Samurai powers. "Unless we're called for some reason, just enjoy your life."
It was obvious Jayden and Mia had.
Just then, a woman in her mid-thirties with long, shiny ebony locks and exotic features of her native island, Polynesia, entered the room, a tray of drinks and snacks wrapped around her willowy hands. She placed the tray on top of the table that housed the water map. She found her spot next to her boyfriend.
"What did I miss," Aya, Mentor Ji's girlfriend, who he met on his excursion around the world, questioned. She started to play with Jayla, a bright smile on her face.
Jayla released a tiny burp.
All eyes whipped her way, and she giggled.
Three Months Later
Bulkmeier's Club and Cabana
Angel Grove, CA
Guests, young and old, filed in and took their assigned seats.
"Please stand and welcome Mr. and Mrs. Jayden Thomas Mathew Shiba Oliver," exclaimed tonight's emcee Eugene 'Skull' Skullovitch. "Whoo, say that five times fast without you're tongue getting tied, and you need to be in the 'Guinness Book of World Records'." His obnoxious laugh of his teenage years blasted through the microphone, which brought back plenty of memories for his high school classmates that were in attendance.
The doors opened, and in walked Jayden and Mia. They were welcomed by claps from the room filled with close to 200 guests. On the dance floor, Jayden twirled his wife around for all to see. Then, he wound her back into his arms, and they spun together, their noses so close they penguin kissed.
The wedding ceremony took place on the beach, much earlier in the day. It was intimate with only their closest family and friends as witnesses. This reception was another story, since it doubled as a ranger reunion and the children to the past rangers were also here. A reunion they hoped wasn't cut abruptly because of a kidnapping, someone wandering off, or something spell binding.
At the main table, Sophia held her niece, Tristan grinned, and Kim wiped her eyes with her pink and white handkerchief, while Tommy's arm was slung around her back. Together, they watched their son and their daughter in law prance so eloquently. This was such a magical day, a day they, once, thought they would never get to be apart of or witness.
"He dances better than you ever will," Kim quipped, nudging her husband's side.
"Oh shush," he couldn't help but chuckle because she was so right.
After they were done, the newlyweds took their seats. This reception was more than they could have ever dreamed of. There was an an array food from all cultures, the center pieces were intricately made and incredibly beautiful, and the take home favors for the guests cost a very pretty penny. A lot of thought, time and money went into only deserved the best, in the opinion of the people closest to them.
Every single person commenced eating, and they talked and rendezvoused.
It was the unity seen, heard, witnessed, and partaken in, that would make Rita Repulsa, Lord Zedd, Master Vile, King Mondo, Maligore, Divatox, Dark Specter, Astronema, Trakeena, Queen Bansheera, Ransik, Master Org, Lothor, Mesogog, Emperor Grumm, Octomus, Flourious and Moltor, Dai Shi, Venjix, and Master Xandred attempted innumerably to decimate and destroy with a vengeance. It was never possible because the incarnations, as a team, as a family, conquered the villains.
For reasons unspecified, the most recent team wasn't invited, but there was always next year.
Ding, ding, ding.
Tommy's fork frolicked against his glass, champagne flute. He was at the podium where Skull first introduced the couple. He stood ready to toast his son and welcome the newest member to his family.
"Thank you to everyone that has come to celebrate the nuptials between my son, Jayden, and his lovely bride, Mia. Let's give them a round of applause." He waited, his glass held in the highest esteem in the air. He reared his arm back. "It's been a wild and crazy 19 years," he began, wearing his emotions on his sleeve. "When Kim and I decided to give Jayden up for adoption, it was truly the hardest decision we had to make in, not just our teenage years, but life. So, we spent several years searching and searching and going through all of the Power Rangers archives, only to find he was Power Ranger himself. I was angry, infuriated, because, as his parents and former rangers, we wanted him to be safe. After meeting Jayden at an eventful rangers' reunion, he was everything I imagined him to be. He had a good head on his shoulders, exemplified what a true Red ranger was and should be, and I couldn't have been more prouder," he chuckled to conceal the choked up feeling he was experiencing.
From his chair, Jayden mouthed his thanks and love to his dad. Tommy did the same.
"Now, he's going to school, he's a loving father, and, now, a doting husband. I'm honored to be your dad," he drank to that, as did everyone else. "Now, Jayden, here's some friendly advice from me to you, husband to another husband. Do NOT, and I repeat, do NOT, make a Pink angry; they're just as deadly, if not a notch more, than a Yellow." His comment elicited a few laughs. "To Jayden and Mia, I love you both dearly."
"To Jayden and Mia," everyone chorused.
Kim scooted her chair back. She handed her precious granddaughter to her husband, once he returned. It was her turn. "Okay, okay, bare with me," she wiped her eyes for the umpteenth time. "Mr. Multicolored ranger, also known as my husband, has said everything that I've told him over the years. Kind of shocking, huh? He's usually so forgetful," she joked.
"Love you too, beautiful," Tommy sent his love, from where he sat.
"My first born, no matter what, I'll always look at you, as the baby boy I held in my arms in the confines of the Command Center, but I won't treat you like a baby. You have grown up to be a handsome man with a good head on your shoulders. I love you," Kim declared. "I celebrate your marriage, thank you for making me a grandma, and whatever happens in life, just know I will always be there for you three," she spoke of her son, daughter in law and Jayla. "I love you guys!" She stepped off stage and walked to her son.
"Mom, always and forever, I love you," Jayden swore, as he embraced her.
Mentor Ji spoke the same words from the time he encountered Jayden at the Panorama City Forest. The only difference, no hostility was shown.
The best man, Kevin, and the groomsmen, Mike and Antonio, entered the stage next.
A very sentimental Kevin broke down and blubbered. The wedding, and, now, ceremony was just so beautiful in his eyes.
"Kev, get it together," Mike snapped, thinking this was the wedding fiasco from their ranger days all over again. The former Green ranger laughed nervously, as what he said screeched through the speakers. He took it upon himself. "We just want to say our condolences..." Antonio smacked his arm, right then and there, while the occupants filling the room quirked their brows. "What?" He didn't know what he did or said wrong.
"Congratulations," Anotonio corrected in a whisper, embarrassed.
"Oh, my bad," Mike apologized, "Jayden, Mia we give you our consolidations."
"'Consolidations'," Mia murmured questionably.
Emily, the matron of honor, palm smacked her forehead. Her husband could be really clueless sometimes. She saved the day by escorting them off the stage, so she could say her little speech. "To Mia, my sister from another mister, and Jayden, my brother from another mother, from the Samurai team and I, we tell you congratulations. May you celebrate 10, 15, 25, 100 years more together. And, if I'm a carrying a girl," she revealed she's with child, which everyone exhaled sharply at, "I'll name her Mia Lauren. If I'm carrying a boy, I'll name him Jayden Michael. We love you, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver!"
Mia's parents said a few words about giving their daughter away to a very good family, and the final person to speak was Sophia.
She smiled tearfully at everyone. "To the bride and groom, I, too, wish you many blissful years to come," she started. She giggled, an anxious quirk of hers, and locked eyes with her brother. "It seems that Jayden and I have been connected for awhile, and when I was told had an older brother was out there, I was not upset at all. I just wanted to find him as much as my parents did, possibly more because my wonderful friends and I made a trip to Panorama City behind our parents back." All of those 'wonderful friends' were sitting at their respective tables and laughed about it now. She wiped her eyes, careful to make sure she didn't smudge any of her makeup. "I love my brother with all my heart, and thank you because now I have a big sister and a wonderful niece," she ended. She came down the stairs and hugged the couple.
"I love you too, Sophia," Jayden embraced her.
"And I love having a little sister," Mia promised.
The reception continued, once all the speeches were done.
For the honeymoon, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver jetted off Seoul, Korea.
Two Months Later
Ernie's BrainFreeze
Hardwood City, CA
Jayden entered and acted like any other person milling this establishment.
He sat at the counter, next to three guys, and he eavesdropped
They had a power related dilemma.
"Get into your opponent's head, use your instincts to sense their next move and feel their attack coming," he educated. He saw the worker, the namesake of the place, going to the far back. "Plain please," he ordered. Upon facing them, the three Power Rangers gawked. "What? You never seen a ranger order froyo before?" He waited for an answer. "I can tell you, right now, I have an 'uncle' who eats this by the bucket."
"You," Noah, the current Blue Power ranger, pointed, "you're Jayden, the Red Samurai ranger, and your wife is Mia, the Pink Samurai ranger, and your dad, your mom they're two of the Originals." He stared in awe. "All of you are, well, legendary."
It was odd to be looked at as some kind of rock star, but it was humbling.
"I'm Troy," the current Red ranger introduced himself, "it's an honor to meet you."
"I know who you are; we've been watching you," Jayden revealed, much to their surprise. "All of the teams have been watching you, and we all know what you're up against." From his jacket, he unveiled the Ninjetti Samurai disc. This time with seven animals instead of six. He presented it to them.
"What," Jake, the Black/Green ranger, said, incredulous.
As the current rangers stared at the disc, marveling at the Ninjetti animals, Jayden received a phone call. He walked away from the group and took the call personally.
"Hello?"
"Jayden, are you doing Power Ranger business behind my back," his wife queried.
"Shit," he cursed beneath his breath. "Maybe... and if I did!?"
"You did," she shouted the statement, heated by what he said. "Oh, honey, did you seem to forget I was supposed to go with you," she reminded him. "Not only did I want to meet the new team, but there's a certain little shop inside of that mall that has a gift for our daughter who's first birthday party is three hours away!"
"Holy shit," he muttered. "Oh come on babe, you're acting like I traveled to the moon and battled a whole army of enemies without you," he complained, as he searched for the store they talked about.
Oliver Residence
Reefside, CA
"Jayden, are you sure we should get involved," Mia asked, as she exited the car. She went a step back, opened the door and unbuckled their daughter from her car seat. Setting Jayla on the ground, she grabbed her tiny hand. They walked to the front door.
He shrugged his shoulders, as he stepped with her. "I don't know," he answered, "but, if I was dad I wouldn't even come home tonight." He unlocked his parents' front door.
They were immediately greeted by Sophia and Tristan, who were standing there and looking at the mother and dad like they were saviors of the universe.
"Thank goodness," Sophia thanked the heavens, as if she was rescued. In reality, she was sick of her mom making various phone calls and patching several transmissions to KO-35, Aquitar and the future. She took her niece from their arms, had Tris follow them, and they took off like the speed of light to the basement.
At once, Mia and Jayden groaned. When they received the phone call from Kim about Tommy missing, they weren't where he could have gone off to. They came over per her request, but were sure Kim was about to and has already blown a gasket.
"We can always leave now, right," Jayden questioned, unsure of what he was thinking when he decided to come here.
Kim exited the kitchen, cell phone and futuristic communicator in her hands. "There you guys are." She approached them. "Seriously, I'm going to kill your father when he gets home! What on Earth is he thinking?! He decides to go where the invasion is, so he could confront the evil head first?!"
"Mom, mom," Jayden attempted to calm her by placing his hands on her shoulder. He signaled for Mia's help.
"Mom," Mia said, "maybe, he just doesn't want all of us in danger?"
The Crane walked back to the kitchen, her son and daughter in law right behind. "I would believe that, if I hadn't received word others have left."
"Others," Jayden and Mia echoed, shocked to hear.
"Yeah, Carter, Dana, Leo, Damon, Wes, Karone, TJ, and Cassie," Kim counted off the names. She clenched all communication devices in her hands, frustrated. "I need a shot!"
"Mom," everyone heard Sophia yell through the built in intercom.
Jayden blew out a breath. "What else could be going on now," he murmured. He headed to the squar box and pressed the receive button. "Sophia, what's going on?"
"Andros said Emily and Mike went too."
"What the hell is going on," Mia asked, wondering why he didn't think to ask his wife, son and daughter in law to accompany him.
"Anything else Sophia," Jayden wondered, before he ended the link.
"Yeah, Saba's missing along with the Dragonzord power coin."
"Motherfucker," Kim screamed, her eyes flashing pink. "Is he trying to show off every single suit he's EVER worn?! We're in the middle of an invasion, not a fashion show!"
Outside the window, and, in the distance, these former rangers saw the many explosions erupting.
Kim had an idea in mind, and she knew it was crazy. She pressed the button for the kitchen's entry way to the basement. She was going to round up the troops and unleash an attack these villains never saw coming, so her husband could come home.
And of course save everyone, her friends and the world.
It was five hours later, and Tommy returned home with a pissed off wife in tow. Like it hadn't been enough to hear her ramble on and on about the possibility of 'becoming a single parent because of your stupidity'.
As soon as he arrived, the first thing he did was hand over his first power morpher to Sophia. His talking weapon, Saba, then went to Tristan. Second on his agenda, he headed straight for the kitchen to fetch himself a beer. He took the ice, cold beer and drank it in one gulp. Finished, he saw his wife nearby. He pulled her closer to him, and made out with her passionately, which ultimately shut her up and made her forget exactly what they were arguing about.
Mia and Jayden figured they had enough excitement for the day. It was great to suit up with all of the former and current Power Rangers to combat thousands of X-Borgs, but it was time to get home and resume their normal realized their parents were eerily quiet, so they figured it was safe to head inside the kitchen to say their goodbye. Instead, they encountered a sight they weren't exactly prepared for.
Jayla laughed throatily at her grandparents, who were still very much in love.
"Ew, yucky," Tristan howled, disgusted with his parents display of affection.
"What are you guys doing? Working on baby number four," Sophia chided them.
Tommy picked his wife up, ignored the stares from his children, and carried his wife to their bedroom, so they could be alone.
The former Pink and Red Samurai rangers cackled and only hoped to be like them at their age.
"Let's go out to dinner," Jayden offered to get his little sister and brother out the house, so they wouldn't be within ear's distance. He watched them nod, and they all headed out. At the doorway to his parents' house, he started to laugh and smile at the same time. He came from one crazy family, but he wouldn't have it any other way. He stepped outside to join everyone else.
The End.
