Mousewhisker's POV
Instead of the usual foghorn that wakes me up, I'm awoken by the screeching noise of a whistle.
"Everybody UP!" yowls Ashfur, walking into our Cabin.
I check my watch. We still have half an hour before we wake up!
"Why are we up so early?" Foxleap complains.
"ThunderCabin atheletes don't complain," snaps Ashfur. "We are CHAMPIONS!"
"Champions at not waking up," I mutter under my breath.
"Everybody up! We have to do the daily warm-up!" Ashfur barks. "Get your shoes on, toss on a jacket, then meet me outside! The last three boys outside will have to do twenty extra push-ups! No slackers!"
After Ashfur leaves, the boys in my cabin start cursing and complaining. Don't get the wrong idea, we're the most athletic guys ever. But we HATE early mornings.
Suddenly, Firestar walks into our Cabin with a smile.
"What's going on, Firestar?" asks Lionblaze as he throws on his gym shoes. "Why is Ashfur forcing us to wake up so early?"
Firestar smiles. "You boys can go back to sleep. Ashfur's just... excited for the Camp Warriors Olympics."
"That's today!" gasps my brother, Berrynose. "We have to get ready! ThunderCabins will win!"
Firestar chuckles. "I've told Ashfur to return to his bed. Don't worry. If you want, you can warm-up a bit, or you can go back to sleep."
"Firestar," says Bumblestripe. "When will we-"
"I'll answer everything at breakfast," Firestar says with a smile. "No worries."
He shuts the door, and happily, I let my head fall on my pillow and drift back to sleep.
xXx
It seems like only a second later I'm eating some cereal. Fortunately, Firestar had given us an extra five minutes of sleep. Unfortunately, that seems like nothing.
"Guys, we're going to win this," says Berrynose, again.
"Of course we are," grins Foxleap. "Because you have me on your team!"
But I'm not listening. Instead, I look around the Dining Hall. The Shadowkids are all huddled together, like they usually are. Riverkids are the loudest, shouting across the table as they stuff food into their mouths. The WindCabin kids are just silently staring around the room. I ignore them and look at the cereal line. Maybe I should get some more cereal...
But that's when I see her.
She's got gorgeous, blond waves tied back in a ponytail as she talks to her friends while pouring in some cereal.
Who is that girl?
I know she's not a ThunderCabin girl, because if she was, I'd know her for sure.
"Mousewhisker?" asks my brother. I turn my attention back to Berrynose.
"Hm?" I ask.
Berrynose rolls his eyes. "I said, which sport do you want to captain with me?"
Sports? Well, I've always liked basketball…
"I'll do basketball," I decide.
Berrynose nods. "Mousewhisker and I will be in charge of basketball."
Everyone else continues discussing their sports and everything, and I turn around, looking for the girl with the ponytail.
But she's no longer there.
Heathertail's POV
"Heathertail, can I borrow a headband?"
"Okay!"
"Heathertail, can I use your mascara?"
"Sure thing!"
"Heathertail, can I wear this skirt?"
I whip around, blond curls flying behind me. "No," I say firmly. I walk over to where some girls are looking at our small dresser. Sighing, I snatch my white designer tennis skirt out of Swallowtail's hands.
"But it's so pretty!" Swallowtail complains.
"I don't care," I retort. "I'm wearing it."
I quickly go to the restroom and change into the tennis skirt, then return to my place in front of the mirror. I style my hair into a bun, then apply some eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick. I put on my white headband and pink tennis top, then put on some pink tennis shoes.
Perfect.
Except for one thing…
I dig through my bag full of accessories, then finally pull out my white sparkling sunglasses and put them on.
"Girls," I say with a smirk. "I'm ready for these Olympics."
"No, you're not," comes a voice, and we all whip around to see Nightcloud standing in the doorway, holding a pile of yellow clothes.
"Here are your team shirts," says Nightcloud with a smile.
I want to faint. Yellow? Yellow t-shirts?
"Ew!" I squeak. "Why yellow?"
Sunstrike steps up. "I think yellow is a nice color."
"Well, I don't," I snap.
Nightcloud rolls her eyes. "Heathertail, either you wear them or you don't participate in the Olympics at all."
"Why can't we have a pretty color?" I ask. "Like blue?"
Nightcloud narrows her eyes. "Want to join RiverCabins? Be my guest."
I sigh in defeat. Angrily, I stomp up to Nightcloud, rip a yellow shirt out of her arms, and then go back to the restroom to change.
Hazeltail's POV
"I want to be the one to carry the flag in!"
This is all that I hear from the time Brambleclaw brings us the ThunderCabin Olympic flag. It's just like our shirts are… red with a thunderbolt in the center and the words ThunderCabins written below it.
After we had changed, we were all supposed to go down to the Camp Tree and get ready for the "opening ceremony", which is just each Cabin group running in with a flag. Everyone met up, and now we're trying to figure out who's going to do the honor of carrying the flag in.
"Guys," I sigh. "Please. It's just a flag. It's not like it's the real Olympics or anything."
Everyone turns to look at me, and the silence actually scares me. Finally, Foxleap, my red-haired crush, steps forward.
"I think Hazeltail should carry the flag."
xXx
"Third up, we've got the mighty ThunderCabins!"
As soon as Graystripe says those words, I close my eyes, clench my teeth, and lift up the red flag. Taking a deep breath, I step forward.
There are cheers from the crowd of adults. I look over to Bluestar, head of ThunderCabins, as she cheers us on while she stands beside Oakheart. The other heads of the Cabins are also applauding, but they're not as excited.
It's just a stupid pretend Olympics, Hazeltail, I remind myself as I take a deep breath. No worries.
Finally, we're told to stop, and then WindCabins arrive, with Harespring as their flag-carrying-person.
Since it goes in alphabetical order, RiverCabins are first, followed by ShadowCabins, then us ThunderCabins, and finally, WindCabins.
"Welcome, welcome, welcome," says Firestar, standing up by Graystripe, "to the annual Camp Warriors Olympics!"
Everyone cheers, and Firestar signals for us to quiet down.
After Firestar gives a random speech, he announces the order of today.
"First up," he says. "RiverCabins against ShadowCabins in a game of soccer, while ThunderCabins play against WindCabins in a game of basketball."
I move my gaze over to the Windkids, who are all huddled together, whispering. They shouldn't be too hard to defeat.
Of course, never judge a book by its cover. I've never seen any of them play basketball.
Rosepetal, standing next to me, has her hands on her hips.
"Oh, Windkids," she says with a smirk. "It is on."
So... who do you think was the girl that Mousewhisker saw? How annoying is Heathertail? What did you think of Hazeltail carrying the flag? Review please!
Jayfeather: By the way, Silver doesn't own the Olympics.
Lionblaze: That'd be awesome, though. If she did.
Hollyleaf: Neither does Silver own the Warriors. But I think she already said that.
Anyways...
Jayfeather: Review, follow and favorite!
Please do! ~Silver
