Title: Music

Band is basically what I do (I do marching band, concert band, jazz band, holiday cheer ensemble, and pit orchestra. I play mallets-marimba, bells, vibraphone, and xylophone-if you're interested), so I thought it would be fun to write about what I love. Thanks to 1monster2, Shiary (it's not helping, by the way...), Purestrongpoem, and FiliKiliThorin for their reviews.

Fili and Kili had grown up around music. Dis had sang lullabies to them every night, and Thorin, if they begged enough, would sing for them, in his low rumbling voice, the story of Erebor. So it was only natural that they would want to play music themselves.

They started singing, much like every other dwarf child, when they were very young. They sang the song they knew best, and it both warmed and twisted Thorin's heart to hear, in their high-pitched, childish voices, "Far over the Misty Mountains cold..."

Then, when they were a little older, they were taught to play instruments. Fili chose the fiddle, and Kili, aspiring as always to be just like his big brother, chose the same. Fili had a talent for it, and his brother could be good when he put his mind to it, which he rarely did.

As the boys grew older, they often abandoned their music to instead practice the instruments of war. But whenever times got too stressful, they would pick up their fiddles and play.
