A/N: Okay so I think I am going to fast forward a bit of Sam's recovery now, I don't want to bore you guys with mundane stuff with her sitting in a bed with the others around her because we all know that's what they would do. I just hope I can do this justice and give you lovely people the chapter that you deserve.

Over the next few days Sam seemed to slowly improve, she still spent most of her time sleeping but no matter what there was always a member of SG-1 with her, honorary, past and present. Jack and Grace spent the most time with her and it was clear that having Grace with her mother was a good idea, even if it was likely to have consequences later.

"So Samantha, tell me about your family." This was the second time that Vala had sat with Sam since she had been released from the infirmary and frankly it took her a lot longer to ask that question than Sam thought.

"What do you want to know Vala?"

Sam knew that she was opening herself up to be interrogated but she would much rather do it one on one than have to face everybody together.

"Everything, naturally. But why don't you start with when you got married to General Hotstuff."

Sam couldn't help but giggle.

"Well it wasn't long after I left the SGC the first time and before I started at area 51, technically neither of us were employed at that time and so we took advantage of it. We figured we had done 8 years of dating beforehand. We knew nearly everything about each other and the President gave his blessing after General Hammond told him what we were planning. After that it all happened kind of quickly, it was a small ceremony only Daniel, Teal'c and General Hammond were with us at Jack's cabin in Minnesota"

Vala was so enthralled in the story that when Sam stopped speaking it was almost like a slap in the face.

"And, what else? Did you wear a dress? Flowers? Samantha there is so much information lacking, details, I need details. Wait, if Grace is four does that mean she was a wedding night baby?"

Again Sam couldn't help but laugh.

"Well kind of, I found out I was pregnant with her the day of the wedding and told Jack during our first dance, when we got back General Hammond gave us a number of a Doctor that they had been considering hiring at the SGC and it gave them the excuse they needed to hire her, she had many specialties and was keen to learn. Two days after I got back I went to my first appointment with Dr Lam."

It was at this point that Vala interrupted her.

"Wait Carolyn knew you were married and had a child?"

"Yes Vala, It was a high risk pregnancy so I had to be monitored closely and at the time she was stationed in Nevada. It worked out for everybody, after I gave birth she was transferred to the SGC and I wasn't far behind her unfortunately. Grace was only 3 months old when I was recalled. Jack had to take her to Washington so I only saw her when we were on Earth."

Vala knew all too well what it was like to be separated from your child.

"That must have been absolutely dreadful"

"I must admit it was hard at first especially because I had been breast feeding and I wanted to continue to express, but yes it was very difficult. Thankfully Teal'c and Daniel helped me a lot and the General too, everybody was very supportive."

Vala had a very pensive look on her face and it was making Sam nervous, god only knows what goes on in that woman's head.

"So the people at Area 51 knew you were pregnant?"

"I think some of them suspected but I did try and hide it with baggy clothes and lab coats but when you're 8 months pregnant it can be hard to hide. Nobody outright asked me and I never mentioned anything. Thankfully I spent a lot of my time there alone in a lab or in one of the quieter sections of the ship."

Vala was slowly nodding her head, it felt like a lifetime, but was actually only a few minutes before she spoke again.

"I can't believe you had a family this whole time and didn't tell me!"

"We didn't tell anybody Vala, and for good reason."

A/N: Alright so there you go, a bit of history on our favourite couple and their little family. I kind of love the relationship between Vala and Sam so expect a lot more of it throughout. I wrote this chapter many months ago and I am half way through the next chapter.
