"DEAN WINCHESTER!" a sinister voice called over the PA system breaking through the moment in the room. As one the couple's heads turned towards the intruding speaker and behind them they could sense the Father do the same. "YOU THINK YOU CAN SAVE THEM ALL?" the voice continued making the room rumble with the vibrations, the previous alarm fell silent and so did the orderlies attempt to enter the room. "I LIKE TO SEE YOU TRY!" with those words the lights in the room blew causing shards of glass to come raining down.
Automatically Dean's wings extended allowing the offending material to fall on his feathers rather than their exposed skin. Sam huddled into his side and even father Rufus crowded round him, the only one standing near the door was Castiel, his eyes were still focused on Lailah's dead body. Satisfied he had caught it all he pulled back slightly and allowed his wings to shake the glass free before they settled into his back once more. His green eyes peered down at his lover who silently nodded at him communicating that he was alright.
"That voice…" the father stammered his eyes locked onto the speaker system. "It…"
"A demon," Dean replied turning his back on the wheelchair knowing that he wouldn't be able to look at her body. He felt like he had just lost the last link to his true self, to the angel side of him. Everyone he ever loved or tried to help always seemed to end up in a body bag but this was the first time he had put them there himself. Pushing past these thoughts he brought his attention back to Rufus who was staring at him with wide eyes while he was desperately creating the sign of the cross on his chest.
"He's the one who tortured Kevin…I'll never forget. Alastair…" Rufus spat out the name like the mere word was tainting his tongue.
"Alastair are you sure?" Castiel suddenly sprang to life moving to face the father. "It is imperative that this information is correct."
"He…he carved his name into Kevin's chest…he tortured…he…I…there are no words."
Castiel nodded his usual stoic expression now held a sense of fear and anger. His eyes locked onto Dean's and determination seemed to settle over the angel. "We need to leave now." he declared.
"No arguments here," Sam replied carefully moving the pendant so that it lay under his shirt at the same time he made sure that the Colt was hidden hoping that neither angel noticed his movements. "How are we meant to get out? I don't think we are alone out there," he added waving his hand towards the door where the people had previously been trying to break in.
"Hold on," Castiel muttered pulling the trio into a circle and making sure that they were all holding onto one another. He drew in a deep breath "close your eyes!" he declared before a white light erupted out of his hand.
…
After a couple of moments the light faded revealing that they were in fact still standing in the same spot. All of a sudden the sound of the door cracking pierced through the atmosphere and a soft wind began to blow. "Cas…" Dean said his eyes moving to face the door. With a loud crashing sound the hinges caved in and the metal door fell to the floor at their feet. Three orderlies stood behind, their white uniforms were drenched in blood and their previous bored eyes were now pitch black. One of them cracked their necks and they all sneered at them. "Cas get us out of here!" Dean added taking a step forward so that he was in front of Rufus who was desperately muttering a prayer. He retrieved his blade and held it out in front of him, his full attention on their would be attackers.
"My powers are blocked," Castiel replied.
"Awesome," Dean muttered swinging his blade in warning however the trio continued to just stand there and stare at him like he was a piece of meat and they hadn't eaten in days. "Any other bright ideas?" he asked feeling the wind begin to increase, around them furniture began to topple and Lailah's corpse was thrown from the chair and to the floor in front of Dean's feet. Her head lolled to the side and her lifeless eyes stared up at him.
"You actually done it…" a familiar voice spoke.
Dean spun on his heels and standing right behind him was father Rufus, he had a grin on his face and his eyes were the purest black. Sam and Castiel were suddenly thrown from his side towards the trio of demons waiting in the doorway, they grabbed at the pair and held them into place. Leaving Dean standing alone with the holy man. The angel held his blade up in front of his face and adjusted his stance, he ignored the wind, he ignored his mother's body and he ignored his lover calling to him. All that mattered was the demon in front of him. "Alastair," he spat out sensing the presence of the creature. There was an undeniable sense of evil radiating off of the man, along with the smell of sulphur and the feel of hellfire prickling along his skin. "Leave Father Rufus," he commanded.
"You know he claims to be a religious man but I don't know…would a religious man let himself be possessed so easily…?" Alastair asked his eyes focused on the body. "What has religion done to anyone?" his attention moved back towards Dean his lips spread out in a smile. "There are those that believe angels are there to protect them and that they watch over them. We know the truth don't we, we know that if you take away their leader…their power than they are nothing more than violent shells." His hand reached out and the room began to shake, the floor started to crack beneath their feet and the demons at the doorway took a step back forcing Sam and Castiel further away. "It's good to see you again son, though you did keep me waiting and I don't like waiting. I had to find some entertainment…"
"Let him go," Dean reiterated holding the blade tighter.
"You know he is in here begging for you to save him because that's what you do isn't it Dean? You save people, you hunt monsters and you save. But what about all those that have slipped through the net? What about your precious Sammy…" Alastair motioned for the demon holding Sam who took a step forward, he held a blade under the hunter's throat. "He died under your watch, you brought him back into this life under the spotlight, you made him a target can you save him?" he motioned towards the other demon who was holding Castiel. "What about the angel? He gave up his seat in heaven to look after you, he is becoming powerless the longer he is away from his home and he is hunted for killing one of his own. Can you save him? What about John Winchester? You hunted with him, he was training you to become his partner and you walked out on him, left him to fend for himself. You allowed me to take him, can you save him? We both know you couldn't save your mothers…" Alastair took a step towards Dean, his right hand grasped onto the edge of Dean's blade and he seemed fascinated with his own blood that dripped off of the end. "You're no angel my boy…you are just like me…"
"Alastair!" Castiel's voice called out, only to be silenced immediately by the demon holding out his hand.
"Don't make me laugh Castiel, I am older than you, you have no power over me," he spat out turning his attention back towards Dean. "So you see we are more alike than you want to think. This is why we end up here…no matter where you ended up…what family that whore left you with we would have always ended up here…"
"Don't call her that," Dean snapped his eyes starting to glow their emerald green. The gold band around his pupils expanded and his power flowed into the blade.
"You're the one who killed her," the demon pointed out his hand gesturing to the floor where she lay between them.
"No," Dean grit out moving his blade to his left hand while his right began to glow. He could feel all his anger, all his hurt, his grief and his pain flow through him channelling into his power. "I saved her," he added flexing his fingers as a white ball of power formed in the palm of his hand.
"You can tell yourself that," Alastair shrugged kicking at Lailah's head. "You can deny all you want but it won't change the fact that you murdered her. There was a way of saving her…I could have brought her back to you…"
"You lie," Dean cut off through clenched teeth.
"Can you be sure though?" Alastair replied taking a step closer so that the angel and demon were almost nose to nose. "As I'm feeling in a good mood I'll let you into a secret…" he leaned in and his lips were against Dean's ear, his breath ghosted his cheek causing a shudder to run through his muscles. "John Winchester is here," he said his words like ice. "I will give you a chance to save him, to save them, to save everyone in this hospital…" he pulled away and he gestured to the demons holding Sam and Castiel, immediately they released them and they opened their mouths and smoked out of the host bodies.
Dean growled, he brought his right hand up against the demon's chest. The light pulsed and flew out of his palm into Rufus's chest. The light ran through the man's veins and his head titled back with his mouth open wide. The pure black eyes flashed back to brown and the black smoke gushed out of his mouth causing the host to scream. Dean pulled his hand back and as soon as the light faded the room fell still and Rufus fell into Dean's arms. The father looked up at him with a smile in his eyes and he nodded his thanks at the angel. Instantly Sam and Castiel ran to his side. Castiel grabbed hold of Rufus while Sam wrapped his arms around Dean making sure that he was alright.
…
"Well that was rude…" the voice called out through the speakers once more. "You'll regret that Dean."
"How did you do that?" Sam asked ignoring the demon's voice.
"No idea," Dean replied shrugging his shoulders. "Let's get out of here."
"One little thing before you go…" the voice continued.
A beeping began to echo throughout the room, not unlike the heart monitor. "FIVE MINUTES TILL DETONATION!" a female voice called out.
"SEE WHO YOU CAN SAVE NOW!" the demon yelled. The beeping continued and instantly horror settled over the angel…it was numbers being counted down…
"A bomb?" Sam breathed out his eyes were wide.
"We need to leave now!" Castiel commanded.
"We can't leave the people here…" Dean replied fear settling in his stomach.
"We can't save them, we need to leave…"
"No, I'm not leaving them."
"This is what Alastair wants," Castiel replied his eyes narrowing to slits. "I will not allow you to!"
"Why are you so scared of him?" Dean asked rounding on the angel blocking out the noise of the woman continuing to count.
"I'm not."
"You're lying, I can always tell when you aren't telling me something!"
"Guys not the time," Sam declared feeling the building begin to shake again as people in the locked rooms started to scream.
"If Dad is here then I'm going to find him."
"Kevin too," Rufus cut in.
"I will not let anyone else die today, if you don't want to help Castiel then leave. I have managed without you before."
"Four minutes and thirty seconds until detonation."
"You find Kevin and John, I'll clear the floors, Dean don't face Alastair…just run…" Castiel said. He nodded at his companion and then vanished out of the room
Dean drew in a deep breath, he grabbed hold of Sam's hand and with the Father in tow they began to make their way through the hospital hoping to find both their father and the prophet before the whole building exploded. Just another day at the office for the Winchesters.
TBC (Yes I know another short chapter but I promise the next one will be longer. I have this story planned out now and I know how I want it to end, probably try to end it around the forty chapter mark just so you know. As always thanks for reading and to those who review you always make my day. See you all in Part Thirty Five!)
