Jeff, Norman and Maddie arrived back at the ambulance station, got out of the parked up ambulance, and walked into the break room. Jeff made himself a tea and Norman sat on the sofa and read the newspaper that was next to him. Maddie sat next to her father.
"So, what happens now?" Maddie asked looking at her father for guidance.
"I think it's about time that we headed home princess"
"What about Mum? Are you sure she won't get mad?"
"She'll come home when she's finished. I will just go and get changed" Maddie nodded and stood by the break room whilst she waited for her father.
Minutes later Jeff appeared in his normal clothes and walked over to Maddie who walked over to her dad and wrapped her arms round him and hugged him tight.
"Dad?"
"Yes princess?"
"Are you and mum going to be alright? also how is mum going to get home if we have the car?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well you aren't talking and I know it's my entire fault" Maddie looked up at her father who looked into her big hazel eyes.
"Don't you worry, I will talk to your mother when she gets home alright. I will come and pick mum up later when she shift finishes, come on princess" Maddie walked with her father to the car, got in the passenger side, and slammed the door shut. Jeff got into the driver's side, started the ignition, pulled out of the car park, left the hospital, and headed home with Maddie in tow.
Once they arrived home Maddie rushed upstairs and got her pj's on and came back down stairs and sat down on the sofa, wrapped a blanket around herself and snuggled down to watch TV before Dixie came home knowing that she was still angry with her and knew it was best to stay out her mother's way.
"Fancy a takeaway princess? Even thought you don't really serve it after what you did but, you know I can't really cook" Maddie nodded brightly.
Minutes later there was a knock at the door so, Jeff got up, opened the door to see a very excited Olivia wrap herself around her father's legs, and hugged him tight.
"Thank you for looking after Olivia, I hope she wasn't too much trouble?" Jeff asked knowing that she was good as gold.
"She was a little angel"
"That's good, how about we have Casey over next weekend?"
"Really daddy?" Olivia said letting go of Jeff and started jumping around with excitement.
"Yes really princess, now what do you say?"
"Thank you for having me" Olivia said sweetly to Casey's mum.
"You're welcome sweetie"
"I'll Get Dixie to arrange Saturday alright"
"That would be lovely and I know Casey would love it"
"Well thanks again," Jeff said cheerfully before he closed the door.
Olivia rushed over and sat next to Maddie who smiled at her sister and opened the blanket for Olivia to snuggle under too.
"Fancy a takeaway Olivia?" Jeff said knowing the answer would be yes.
"Yes please daddy, where's mummy?" Olivia asked looking round the lounge.
"She's at work but, it won't be long until she finishes and I will go and pick her up and Maddie here will look after you won't you Maddie?"
"Yes dad"
"Oh ok" Olivia said sweetly.
"So what does everyone fancy?" Jeff said looking at the girls faces light up.
"Can we have pizza?" Olivia asked
"Yeah pizza, please dad"
"Right Pizza it is" Jeff got up and grabbed the menu that was in one of the kitchen draws and walked back into the lounge minutes later joining the girls on the sofa.
"can we get one of those ones that does for everyone , so we all get a couple of slices with our own choices, if you know what I mean" Maddie thought about how else she could get the idea across.
"Yeah I know what you mean princess and that sounds like a good idea"
"Yay" Olivia chimed in.
"Are we ordering for mum?" Olivia asked looking at her father then Maddie who shrugged her shoulders.
"Yeah I think we better don't you"
"Uh Huh" Olivia said nodding her head.
Jeff ordered the pizza, which arrived half an hour later, and they all tucked in and enjoyed the takeaway as they watch Dancing on ice. Jeff got up and put Dixie's slices in the microwave to keep them warm.
Mean while Dixie arrived back from another shout and went back to her office to finish paper work, which needed to be done when her stomach rumbled telling her that it was time to get something to eat. Dixie looked at the clock seeing that it was half past 7 in the evening and told herself that would stay until half past 8 then head home.
Mean while Jeff looked at the clock and nearly jumped out of his seat when he realised he should have gone to Pick Dixie up 10 minutes ago. Jeff leapt of the sofa in a right panic and put on his shoes.
"Right I won't be long girls, just going to get mum. Be good" they both nodded and carried on watching TV.
Jeff rushed to the car put his seat belt on, drove out of the driveway, and headed towards the station hoping Dixie would have left already.
Minutes later Jeff parked in his usual spot and climbed out of the car and locked it and ran into the ambulance bay only to sigh with relief seeing that Dixie's office light was on which meant she had stayed behind to finish paper work.
Jeff bent down placing his hands on his knees got his breath back before he walked into the Dixie's office. Jeff walked over and poked his head round the door to see Dixie was bent over paper work. Jeff opened the door wider and stepped into the office closing the door behind him.
"Dix, ready to go home princess" Dixie nodded weakly.
"Come on" Jeff walked over to Dixie and helped her put of the chair and she thanked him. Dixie walked over to her coat only to frown seeing her favourite scarf was missing.
"What's wrong Dix?"
"My scarf, I always put it there and as you know it's my favourite one because you got it for me for my birthday"
"Oh yeah I ermm... kind of borrowed it and well it's at home"
"You borrowed my scarf? What the hell for?" Dixie looked confused before she burst out laughing.
"Oh no it's not what you think"
"Doesn't matter I just want to go home," Dixie said yawning loudly.
"I'm sorry for earlier Dix"
"Oh don't worry about I'm not in the mood to talk about it now, anyway I should be sorry I mean I was a cow to you and you come to my rescue, my knight in shining armour" Dixie placed her lips light on top of Jeff's and placed a soft and meaningful kiss.
"I love you Dix"
"I Love you too Jeff, let's go home" Dixie linked arms with Jeff and walked to the car.
They got into the car and drove home. Dixie was nearly dosing off in the car until she remembered something she was going to talk to Jeff about.
"Jeff, I know I was awful to Maddie and well I know she's not happy with me and I was out of line and well anyway I was thinking maybe we should punish her like grounding her or taking her phone of her for a week or something"
"I know you were just looking out of Maddie and you're doing what mothers do , which makes you a great mother and that sounds like a good idea princess, how about we just take her phone off her for a week first and if that fails then move on to grounding her?"
"Ok phone it is" Dixie said going back to looking out the window. They pulled into the driveway and walked through the front door and closing it behind them. Dixie walked into the lounge to see the girls sitting watching TV.
"Mummy, Daddy" Olivia said brightly
"Hi" Maddie said quietly
"Maddie me and Mum have been thinking we should punish you for what you did. Please hand me your phone?" Jeff said holding out his hand.
"No way Please, can't you just ground me instead?" Dixie shook her head.
"I am not going you my fucking phone," Maddie screamed.
"Maddie, don't you dare swear" Jeff said raising his voice slightly
"I am not giving you my phone, I bet it's all her idea, anyway I hear you and mum swear all the time so, what can't I?" Maddie demanded.
"Just give me your phone young lady and for your information it was both our ideas" Jeff said bluntly still holding his hand out for the phone.
"Get fucked, like fuck I am giving you my phone"
"Maddie, you never swear, what's brought all this language on young lady"
"Piss off, you ruin everything" Maddie screamed at her mother and she shoved her phone into Jeff's hands, stormed off upstairs, and slammed her door shut with a loud bang.
