Chapter 36: Silver Town Contest Round 2
The trainers sat down in their respective seats as Sally walked out to the middle of the stage.
"Hello," said Sally, smiling, "Welcome to our Contest Battle Round. The Silver Ribbon is at stake when 8 trainers go at it for the ribbon. Let the match begin with Sarah and Rachel!"
Ed sighed as he looked at Kevin. Kevin nodded as they looked at the stage. Rachel smiled as she stood in her silver sparkling dress with Poké Ball in hand. Sarah walked up on the stage as well. She was wearing a pink dress with black shoes. She had brown hair and blue eyes as her Poké Ball was in her hand.
"Nice to meet you, let's battle! Vivillon! You're up!"
Her Poké Ball opened up. It was a dark blue butterfly with black eyes that had white dots. His wings were green with red patterns.
"Nice," said Ed, looking at the Pokédex, "And it has several forms… she must be from Kalos."
Kevin looked at him as he showed him the flyer. Ed looked at the flyer, "Oh, she's from Santalune City. Okay."
"Vivillon!" shouted Sarah, "Use Bug Buzz!"
Vivillon nodded as he flapped his wings. Lime colored soundwaves filled the area.
"Quick, Butterfree! Use, Supersonic!" yelled Rachel.
Butterfree nodded. Blue waves emerged from Butterfree's mouth. The waves were so fierce, it now filled the stadium. Ed and the others covered their ears due to the high pitch of both sounds. Immediately, Butterfree and Vivillon started twirling around in confusion.
"Whoa," said Sally, rolling her eyes, "It seems that Vivillon's Bug Buzz and Butterfree's Supersonic created a reaction to where both Pokémon get confused. Janine, what do you think?"
Janine sighed, "It was a good counter attack. But, because both Pokémon I believe are in a confused state, they will lose 20 points out of 80."
The trainers looked at each other. They have 60 points remaining and only 4 minutes left to battle. Both Pokémon snapped out of their confusion.
"Alright, let's continue. Butterfree, use Psybeam!" yelled Rachel.
"Free!"
Butterfree shot rainbow beams from its mouth. Before Sarah could say anything, Vivillon was hit hard by the attack.
"Vivillon, use Struggle Bug!"
Vivillon had a pink aura surrounding him. Immediately, a blast of energy came out as Butterfree was hit. Butterfree landed on the ground.
"Great hit to Vivillon, but significant damage to Butterfree!" said Sally.
Rachel: 45
Sarah: 50
"Rachel, not bad," said Sarah, "But, it seems that your Pokémon wasn't trained to beat Vivillon. After all, I learned from the Santalune's Gym Leader."
"I'm from Lumiose City. Do you really think I don't know anything about the Kalos League?" asked Rachel.
"Hmm… enough talk. Vivillon, use Bug Buzz again!"
Vivillon released a massive blast of sound from his wings.
"Quick, Butterfree, use Whirlwind!" yelled Rachel.
Butterfree released tons of wind from his wings, blocking the sound waves.
"Now," shouted Rachel, "Silver Wind!"
Butterfree released a silver blast of energy from his wings. Vivillon was hit by the attack.
"Now, Psybeam before Vivillon gets up!"
Butterfree immediately released a rainbow beam. As the wind cleared, Vivillon was hit by the attack. Vivillon yelled as he was damaged by the attack.
"It seems that Rachel and Butterfree are pulling off the contest battle!" said Sally, "Using Whirlwind to block Supersonic and then using Psybeam was a good match-up combination."
Rachel and Sarah looked at the score.
Rachel: 45
Sarah: 30
"Get up!" yelled Sarah.
Vivillon looked up at Sarah and then landed on the ground.
"Vivillon is unable to battle. Butterfree and Rachel is the winner!"
"YAY!" shouted Rachel, jumping up and down with Butterfree.
"Not bad," said Ed, looking at the other trainers. The other trainers also clapped for Rachel. Rachel bowed to the other audience as she turned toward the curtains.
The next set of battles was slow and boring. Some were not as good as what Ed has seen in the past with the other coordinators. However, it was Jon's turn. Jon was battling a woman named Cassandra, who had black lengthy hair with brown eyes. She wore a green dress with white patterned like designs. She wore a green bracelet with a Poké Ball in hand.
"Cassandra Miller of Jubilife City vs. Jon Russet of Nuvema Town. Let the Contest Battle Begin!"
"Servine, you're up!" yelled Jon, throwing the ball in the air.
"Prinplup, on stage!" shouted Cassandra, throwing the ball in the air.
Servine jumped up and stood ready to battle. Meawhile, a dark blue adult sized penguin appeared, ready to strike.
"Nice," said Ed, "Prinplup is pretty sweet."
"That's the evolved form from one of the Sinnoh's starters," said Kevin, "I would love to have one."
"Knowing my luck, Rachel would get it before you would," said Ed, "That is, if we head to Sinnoh."
"Uh, isn't that on our list?" asked Kevin.
"As of right now, Kanto is on my mind," said Ed, looking at Kevin, "We only need three more badges and then we are heading to the Indigo League. I hope we both can get to at least the Top 4 to get access to the League of Legends."
"Hopefully, the rules haven't changed," said Kevin.
"Kevin, it's been three months since we've left home to complete the Kanto League," said Ed.
John looked at Ed, "Hey, aren't you going to watch the performance?"
Ed rolled his eyes, "No."
"Why?" asked John.
"John, that kid is… well, a jerk," said Ed.
"I see… a rival," said John.
Ed nodded, "Oh yeah. I can't believe I lost to him in Cerulean City…"
El tilted her head to Jon's ear, "When he's angry, he does not shut up."
John looked at her, "Watch and learn. Hey, Eddie."
Ed turned around, "Yeah?"
POW!
Ed looked at John as John punched him in the stomach. It was so powerful that Ed's jaw dropped, "Ow…."
He then fell asleep. John smiled as he sat down. El looked at him, "Better you than me."
The trainers turned around. Jon laughed as Prinplup fainted on the ground.
"And the winner is Servine!"
Jon jumped up, "Hell yeah! We win!"
Servine nodded, bowing his head. As they bowed together, the two of them walked to the curtain while Cassandra walked away in sorrow.
"At that ends the top 8. We will now go to the Top 4," she said, "In a few minutes."
Ed continued sleeping as John and the others looked at him.
"Well, here he is… sleeping smoothly," said Kevin.
John laughed as he took out a camera. Taking a picture, the other trainers laughed as John slid it in his case, "Oh, this is going to be an awesome photo to show Ed when he gets up."
Time has passed. Sally walked up to the stage.
"Alright, it's now time to start the Top 4. We have… Rachel Ruby of Lumiose City vs. Krystal Kerovich of Cherrygrove City!"
Rachel smiled as she looked at her. Krystal smiled. She wore a purple dress with black heels. She had brown hair and olive eyes.
"Come on out, Misdreavus!"
Throwing the ball into the air, a purple ghost like Pokémon appeared wearing a red necklace.
"Butterfree, I choose you!" shouted Rachel.
The ball opened up as Butterfree appeared.
"Battle Begin!"
"Butterfree, let's start with Supersonic!"
Butterfree nodded as waves of blue light came out of his mouth.
"Misdreavus, Substitute!" said Krystal.
Misdreavus disappeared. A white Poké Doll appeared on the field as the waves missed.
"Whoa, Substitute!" said Sally, "That will cost Rachel points."
Rachel looked up. She saw them go down.
Rachel: 70
Krystal: 80
"Misdreavus, use Shadow Ball!" yelled Krystal.
Immediately, from behind a purple orb hit Butterfree. Butterfree screamed as he landed on the ground.
"Butterfree!" yelled Rachel.
Rachel: 60
Krystal: 80
"Wow, Rachel has definitely lost it," said Sally, "Misdreavus shot Shadow Ball with the use of Substitute. Judges, what do you think? Statistics?"
Janine nodded as she was looking at the paperwork, "Well, I'm going to be honest. Rachel is a first time contest competitor. She has already won two ribbons: Saffron and Cerulean. However, Krystal has won four ribbons and she came in second place at the Johto Grand Festival."
Kevin stood up from his chair. John turned to her, "Yeah?"
"That's why she's so familiar. Her Misdreavus wiped the floor with all of the people in the contest hall last year at the Johto Grand Festival."
"What?" asked El, "Which means…"
"Rachel needs a new strategy," said Kevin, "She may not win this one."
"Butterfree, use Sleep Powder!"
Butterfree flapped his wings. Blue powder was emerging from his wings. However, the Substitute was still there.
"Where is he?" asked Rachel, getting frustrated.
"Perish Song," said Krystal.
"What?" asked Rachel.
Immediately, Misdreavus appeared in front of Butterfree. Her eyes began to glow bright red as she started singing a song. Immediately, a red timer appeared.
"Both Pokémon will be unable to battle in 2 minutes," said Krystal, "Give up?"
"How are you so good at this?" asked Rachel, "I have never faced an opponent like you before."
"Simple," she said, laughing, "I came in second at the Johto Grand Festival."
Rachel's eyes widened. Krystal laughed as she looked at her, "Your contest ends now. Misdreavus, Night Shade!"
Immediately, the Substitute disappeared as Misdreavus released black beams.
"Butterfree, quick! Psybeam!" yelled Rachel.
Butterfree dodged the Night Shade attack and released a rainbow beam. Misdreavus then struck with Night Shade. The beams collided, causing an explosion. Butterfree screamed as he was flown to the other side while Misdreavus only stumbled backwards.
"Butterfree, don't give up. Use Silver Wind!" yelled Rachel.
Butterfree released a blast of silver wind from his wings. Misdreavus was caught in a funnel.
"Psybeam!" yelled Rachel.
A psybeam hit Misdreavus. Misdreavus was hit and then multiplied itself.
"Huh?" asked Rachel.
"Double Team," said Krystal, smiling, "Shadow Ball."
"Butterfree, use Whirlwind and blow all of the Misdreavus!"
Butterfree released winds from his body as he tried to remove some of the illusions. A purple ball was heading toward Butterfree's right.
"Butterfree, Psybeam!"
Butterfree turned to his right and released a rainbow beam. The range was so close that Butterfree screamed landing on the ground.
Rachel: 2
Krystal: 60
"Ouch… well, Butterfree is unable to battle. Misdreavus wins!"
Rachel stood there in horror, "Butterfree lost?"
Krystal smiled as she bowed. She smiled as she walked away. Rachel stood there with surprise. She then turned around as Jon started laughing. Rachel narrowed her eyes as she returned Butterfree.
An hour later…
Ed's eyes opened up as he looked at Kevin, "What happened?"
Kevin sighed as he looked at him, "Ray lost."
Ed looked at her, "What?"
Rachel walked out of the contest hall. It seemed that Krystal won the Silver Town Ribbon.
"Are you okay?" asked Ed.
Rachel sighed, "I wish."
Ed looked at her. Rachel walked away from the group.
"Give me some time alone," said Rachel, "Please."
Ed nodded as she walked away from the contest hall.
Later that night…
Rachel was standing on the bridge of Route 17. As she was looking at the water, she sighed as she watching the moon. Her face was full of sorrow.
"What did I do wrong?" asked Rachel, "I practiced, I did whatever I could to win… I thought I could win this."
She sighed as she walked over to grab her bike. However, as she managed to get on, she noticed someone coming up on the bridge on a bike. It was Krystal. However, she wore a blue t-shirt with white shorts.
"Hey," she said.
"Hi," said Rachel, muttering underneath her breath.
"What's with you?" asked Krystal.
Rachel sighed, "I don't know. I guess the fact that I lost after I won my ribbons twice in a row."
Krystal nodded, "I see. Rachel, is this your first contest league?"
Rachel nodded. Krystal nodded, "Well, I am not going to lie but contest battles do get tougher when you go explore the place. I understand when I battled at the Johto Contests. I lost at the Cherrygrove one. It was my first contest. I thought everything was over. However, my mom told me that this was just the beginning and that if I wanted to pursue my goal, I would take the risks. And that's what I did. You only need three ribbons."
"I don't even know where the next one is," said Rachel, sighing.
"GardeniaTown," said Krystal.
"Where's that?" asked Rachel.
"It's on the other side of Fuchsia City," said Krystal, smiling, "Anyway, I don't you to give up. Because you are so talented, I would love to see you at the Kanto Grand Festival."
Rachel looked at her, "Really?"
"Yep. See you at the Festival," she said, starting off.
Rachel smiled as she looked at her as she biked on the bridge. Sighing, she took her bike and headed back to town. As she got to the Pokémon Center, the door opened as they saw El and the others looking at her.
"You okay?" asked Ed.
"Yeah," said Rachel, "Let's just say our next destination after Fuchsia City is in Gardenia Town."
"Gardenia Town?" asked Kevin.
"Yep," said Rachel, "I'm not going to give up on contests."
Ed smiled, "Good. Then, we can go to Fuchsia City."
Rachel smiled, "Well, I guess let's get some sleep."
A/N: Yep, I think it was time for Rachel to lose a contest. So, yeah. Well, the next chapter is coming up. Please review!
