So what happened after that kiss after the party you ask? ( no one asked? Just me? okay)

Things were crazy for Mercedes the last few days of school and that summer. She wasn't sure if she was Sam's girlfriend but they sure made out as if she was. He never officially asked her to be his girlfriend and they were still sort of sneaking around to make-out. Some days, he would be at the house all day but wouldn't even say a word to her. Those days she would either have Tina and Kurt over or she'd be playing video games, wishing she could just spend time with him. Other days, she would be playing video games alone in the living room and he'd come trotting over kissing her till Marcus would call out for him. She would spend moments waiting for another surprise kiss. He would steal a kiss as they'd cross paths in the hallway or when they'd bump into each other in the kitchen and sometimes he'd sneak into her room before leaving at night. At first she was enjoying it as she never knew when he'd plop one on her but it was starting to get to her when he would go days without a surprise kiss.

It was the last day of summer vacation, when she finally bumped into him in the hallway. Sure, she was purposely waiting for him to head to the bathroom to pretend as if she was just about to head to it as well, but who was telling. She sure wasn't about to tell him that but she was going to put her acting skills to the test as she screamed as if he scared her.

"Oh shit, Sam, you almost gave me a heart attack!" she exclaimed as she placed her hand on her chest. He looked at her and smiled before leaning against the wall. "I need to put a bell on you so I can know when you're heading my way."

"Really?" he asked as he reached over and took her hand. "Thought you've been digging the whole surprise of it all." he added as he pulled her to him and kissed her lips. It had been so long since she last kissed him that it practically felt like the first time. "I've missed you." he finally said as he closed his eyes and allowed his forehead to rest on hers. She wanted to ask him why did he wait so long to kiss her again but he was already kissing her once again and all train of thoughts slipped away. It was like this every time. The moment their lips would meet she would be transported somewhere else as if they'd never stopped kissing. And when they'd part, she'd miss the feeling of it all over again. "Tomorrow, at school we should meet..." he stopped and pushed her away from just as they heard Marcus coming there way. Mercedes stared at Sam in shock as he quickly composed himself and pretended he just left the bathroom.

"Damn dude thought you fell in the toilet. How long did you need me to pause the game?" Marcus asked then looked over at Mercedes. "Merc, you wanna play his hand for him? He's making me lose anyway."

"Nah, I'm good. I have to get my things ready for school tomorrow."

"When did you become a nerd?" Sam asked jokingly as he walked towards Marcus who was laughing as well. Mercedes watched as they walked away before leaning against the wall and touching her lips again. That boy was going to be the death of her and it looked like she was going to let him.

The next day, she couldn't wait to bump into Sam. She still wasn't sure what they were but she was prepared to ask him about it today when she saw him. She figured that once she got over the hurdle of knowing they were together than they could figure out how to tell Marcus together. He would be mad but Mercedes figured he would eventually get over it. Sam was his best friend and she didn't see him losing Sam over the fact that he wanted to date his sister. She spent the entire day going over what she would say to Sam when she saw him. And as she made her way to her second period class, she was so deep in thought that she really bumped into Sam this time.

"Oh hey Merc!" Sam said before walking off with his group of friends as if nothing had changed between them. She looked back at him as he walked away then turned to look at her briefly and wink. She smiled at him as he phone buzzed with a text message from him. "You smell nice." his text said, causing her smile to widen as another text came through from him. "Meet at the auditorium after lunch."

"Okay." she replied before marching off to class where Tina and Kurt were already seated and talking about their summer. Nothing they could tell her to could match up to what she'd went through but she sat and listened.

"Hey Mercedes!" Kurt said as she seated next to them. "You look like your summer was as good as ours." he added as if he was begging for her to dish out whatever she was holding in but she knew she couldn't. Not until she spoke to Sam. Not until she knew what the hell was even going on with them.

"I'm just happy to see you guys. I missed you both so much." she stated instead.

"Awww I missed you too. Even though I was having the best summer of my life with..." he paused as he and Tina both smiled. It was obvious that they'd already given out the details she was late for.

"He spent the summer with Blaine Anderson doing plays!" Tina blurted out as Kurt glared her way. "What? You took too long. The bell is about to ring and she needs to know that Mike and I are officially a couple too." Tina bragged. Mercedes wanted to be happy for her friends. They had boyfriends. They had a love life. She sort of had one too but there's was official and out in the open. They continued to brag about the many dates that they'd had while Mercedes brain replayed the game of hide and kiss that she had with Sam. The smile she was sporting on her face was no longer there as the bell rang and she just stared off into space. Why couldn't Sam and her relationship be out in the open?

That questioned stayed on her mind throughout every class. As she walked down the hallways and watched all the couples walking hand in hand. Even Quinn and Finn were still going strong. She wondered what Quinn would think if she knew about Finn's kissing session with Rachel at the after prom party? She wondered what Quinn would think knowing that Sam spent the summer making out with her? She ultimately wondered why the hell she cared so much about what Quinn thought. Then at lunch she saw her, at her table with Finn, Marcus and Sam. Mercedes watched as Sam got up and Quinn followed behind to where they both were seen talking to each other. Then suddenly Quinn placed her hand on Sam's and he looked down at it then back at Quinn and smiled. Mercedes sighed before shaking her head and leaving the lunch room.

Instead of meeting Sam in the auditorium after lunch, she decided to head to her class instead. She was well into class as the teacher was instructing when Sam interrupted the class saying that the main office needed Mercedes. Tina looked over at Mercedes and wiggled her eyes before asking did anything happen after the kiss but Mercedes ignored her. If she told Tina anything she might as well tell the school. She grabbed her things then made her way towards the door where Sam stood waiting, keeping a straight face. She hated to admit it but she was already feeling her heart beat faster and faster as she got closer to him. Why did he affect her that way?

"Is there any emergency?" Mercedes asked once they were outside of the classroom. Instead of answering her he continued to walk towards the opposite direction of the office but towards the auditorium. "Sammmmm!" she whined but continued to follow him.

"Why didn't you meet me at the auditorium?" he asked once they made it to the auditorium. "I waited in here and when the bell rung I realized you flaked on me." Sam said as they walked down towards the stage. He looked back at her and extended his hand to help her down. She looked at his hand and felt herself float back to the dance when he asked her to dance. She smiled and took his hand as she mentally told herself to get some courage and ask him the question that had been nagging her all day but she forgot it all when he pulled her to him. "I really needed you. I've missed you." he held her close and tight as if he didn't or couldn't let her go. She slowly wrapped her arms around him as well and just allowed him to hold her. Something was going on with him and she wanted to ask him but again she lost her train of thought when he placed a kiss on her neck. "I wish I could stay right here forever."

"You sure about that?" she asked with a chuckle. "I think, one of us would get a crazy neck strain." she pulled away from him and smiled before kissing him then finally taking a look at him. His eyes looked as if they'd shed a few tears which caused her to step back and look at him again. "Sam, are you alright?" she asked as he looked as if he was about to tell her something then decided against it.

"Yeah, I'm good. I'm all good. As long as you stay right here." Sam replied before pulling her back towards him and hugging her tight again. "Just stay right here, Mercedes. Please." he begged. If only he knew that was something he never had to beg with her. Especially when he said her name. She just wished he would tell her what was going on with him and what was going on with them. If there really was a them.

Later that day, she watched Sam and her brother at practice with Tina and Kurt. As they talked, Mercedes replayed that moment in the auditorium so many times that it had replace the prom moment, the summer moments, the sneaking moments, all the moments were replaced by that moment. He held her for a few more silent minutes before kissing her and saying that he'd walk her back to class. She never asked about if there were a couple, she never asked about why he was talking to Quinn, she completely forgot to ask why he looked like he'd been crying. She should have asked him what was wrong. She couldn't help but feel that she should have asked him to talk to her.

"So, Mike is having a party for his birthday and he's inviting everyone."Tina said joyfully. Mercedes heard her but her mind was far as she watched Sam out on the field. Almost as if he felt her looking at him from the bleachers, he turned and looked over at her and smiled. She blushed and looked down then back up at him causing Tina and Kurt to follow her gaze. "Sam's going to be there too." she added.

"Mercedes?" Kurt snapped his finger several times until she snapped out of it and looked there way. "Okay, Diva, you gotta spill."

"Spill what?" Mercedes asked as she pretended she wasn't looking at Sam still as he finally looked away.

"You and Sam? Did something happen this summer after the kiss?" Tina asked. Mercedes debated telling them everything. She really wanted to tell them everything but things at McKinley were just not good at staying out of the grapevine. Rumors spread like wild fire with little to no evidence. "I mean, he keeps looking over here as if he wants your attention."

"Come on, Mercedes. We tell you everything about our relationships."

"That's it right there! Relationships! You have relationships. Boyfriends that you won't shut the hell up about. It's always Mike this and Blaine that! Shit! Give me a break. You think I don't have my own issues that I'm dealing with?" Mercedes asked shocking the hell out of both of them. Mercedes knew that they were not trying to be mean. She knew that if she could be honest with what was going on with them then she would be just like them. Shrieking and bragging non-stop about Sam. Hell, she wasn't even sure if she was Sam's girlfriend but he already consumed her mind. "I'm sorry. I just...look...I'll talk to you guys later." she stated before grabbing her things and stepping off the bleachers. She could hear the two of them shouting after her but she really needed to be away from the school at the moment. Sam noticed her running off and any other day he would have run after her but he had a jam packed day. He figured he would talk to her later that night.

Those things never happened. Sam became busier than he thought he'd be and Mercedes began to lose the patience she once had with him. There were days that he would act like the best boyfriend in the world and then days where she wouldn't even hear from him. She still hadn't asked him if she was his girlfriend or not. He always looked so damn tired when he came over that when he would sneak into her room she wouldn't even bother to ask him anything. He would just lie there next to her and hold her hand before leaving. At school, he continued to act like he was Marcus' best friend and she was just Marcus' sister. And every now and then, he would pull her into a janitor closet or under a bleacher, where he'd either just hug her or they'd make out. She wanted to be there for Sam, but again, she was losing her patience waiting for Sam.

"What are we doing, Sam?" she asked, as he continued to place kisses on her neck. They were supposed to be at lunch but he decided he would pull her into the janitor's closet instead.

"I'm kissing your neck." he replied before continuing to kiss her neck. She was enjoying it but she couldn't help holding it in anymore. It was a nagging question that had been begging to be released.

"I'm serious, Sam." Mercedes said as she slowly pushed him away. He looked at her with utter confusion as he waited for her to continued. "I...just been wondering since we kissed at the after party." she shrugged as he continued to stare cluelessly. "Am I your girlfriend?"

"What?" Sam asked instead of answering. Mercedes stood there patiently waiting for him to answer as he continued look at her as if she was crazy.

"I mean, we do all these things that come close with what girlfriend and boyfriend's do but I don't want to assume that we are and we aren't. We just do a lot of kissing and that seems like that's like all we do."

"You want to do more than kissing?" Sam asked suddenly intrigued and ignoring the first part of her question. "I mean, if you feel you want to take things to the next level we can..."

"No Sam!" Mercedes said cutting him off. "Am I your girlfriend?" she asked then continued. "I can feel that you've been going through some things recently, but you aren't tell me and I feel that as your girlfriend...you should tell me. But then, you aren't telling me because maybe I'm not..." she paused as she tried to read the pensive look on his face. "Are you my boyfriend? What are we doing here?" she asked before sighing. "Are we a thing?"

"Mercedes." Sam said as he pulled her to him and placed his hands on each sides of her face. "Of course we're a thing. I'm your girlfriend and you are my boyfriend." he paused and smiled as she chuckled. He always knew how to make her laugh even when she was upset. "Okay, seriously, you're my girlfriend, okay."

"Okay." she replied before nodding as he picked her chin up to kiss her. "I'm your girlfriend." she smiled and let out a sigh of relief. They could finally do things that couples do, or at least that's what she thought. "So, um, as your official girlfriend..."

"What does my official girlfriend want?" he asked as he resumed kissing her neck as he was doing before.

"I want you to come to Mike's party tonight..."

"I'm already going." Sam stated cutting her off as he continued to kiss her. She was going to specify that he needed to go with her but then the bell rang and it was time for them to part ways. "I'll see you at the party tonight, okay?" he added before kissing her once again. "Wait a few minutes before you leave okay." he added leaving her stunned in the closet. She thought for sure that him saying that she was his girlfriend meant that they were finally going public but it sadly wasn't. He still left her in the closet.

Later at the Party-

Later that night, Mercedes debated not going to the party completely. She was not in the mood to see her two best friends all loved up while she was the fifth wheel but Kurt begged her to come out. So she got dressed, did her own makeup and made her way over to Mike's where the entire school seemed to be in attendance. The music was bumping loud and at the center of the living room she could see Tina dancing it up with her new boo. Mercedes had to agree that she was looking the happiest she'd ever been with Mike. She'd only heard good things about Mike, so she needed to support Tina even if her own relationship wasn't working out well. She hadn't apologized to Tina about her outburst and she knew she needed to as soon as she could. But, first, she needed to find Sam. She scanned the room and saw her brother dancing it up in a corner with Santana. She figured that Sam would be near by so she looked around and noticed him talking in corner with Quinn as he sipped his drink.

"Why is she always near him?" she asked out loud.

"Well they used to date." she heard Kurt say causing her to turn and forced a smile before greeting him with a hug. "I see you're still crushing on Sam. He's been single since he kissed you. Why don't you ask him out?"

"How can I when Quinn is always around?" she asked as she sighed turned her gaze away just as Sam looked her way.

"Well, then don't waste time waiting on Sam. I see Anthony over there checking you out. Go dance!" Kurt said as he pulled her towards the dance floor in Anthony's direction. She didn't want to dance with Anthony but Kurt was right. She need to get herself out there and stop letting her actions revolve around what Sam was ready to do. Sure, Kurt didn't say that word for word but that was what she was going to do.

"Hey, Ant, wanna dance?" she asked and smiled when he nodded and followed her to the dance floor. She looked over to where Sam was still talking to Quinn or at least she was still talking as he sipped and looked at Mercedes from above the rim of solo cup. She smiled and continued to dance with Anthony. She hated how touchy-feely he was with her but she was enjoying the nervous look on Sam's face. She was dancing for a while with Anthony before Sam looked as if he was going to come over to her but Marcus beat her to it. He quickly pulled Anthony away and glared at Mercedes.

"The hell you doing with my baby sis?" he asked then turned his attention back to Mercedes. "Why you out here thot dancing?" Mercedes was about to tell him about himself but for the first time ever, Santana stepped in for her.

"Hypocrite much? You were just dancing like that with me. Are you calling me a thot?"

"This is different. You're my girlfriend though."

"Yes and she's your sister, not your daughter. Let the girl live. Damn!" Santana said before stomping away leaving Marcus stunned. He glared at Mercedes one last time before running after Santana. Mercedes looked around the room and noticed that all eyes were on her. She quickly turned to leave and bumped into Tina.

"Mercedes, are you okay?" Tina asked. "What Marcus just did...was just..."

"It's okay. I'm used to it." she quickly said. "I didn't mean to ruin the party. You look great with Mike." Tina smiled and pulled her in for a hug before telling her to come hang with her and Mike. "I...think I'm going to actually go home."

"Mercedes, don't let Marcus scare you in a corner."

"It's not Marcus. I just...I'm not feeling up for it all." Mercedes replied. "But, hey, raincheck it okay?"

"Cool." Tina smiled before walking off. Mercedes sighed before looking around to see if Sam was anywhere but he wasn't and neither was Quinn. She felt like an idiot. Why was she allowing Sam to make her feel like such an idiot?

This will be a short 3-4 part one shot.
