Chapter 35: Motives

'What drives one to want to exact their revenge? Just what is it within the situation that creates the drive for revenge? Is it for personal reasons or another reason? This question may have an answer as Shannon seeks to wreck vengeance on Pacifica Northwest for Rian Brown's death!'

~(Shannon's P.O.V.)~

It was like a nightmare that was engraved into my brain and each time I closed my eyes, I saw it and it just brought tears to my eyes. It was like watching a mirror shatter right in front of me and the glass shards stabbing me in every place they could find, including in the heart. I tried to reach out to her when she was in pain, to hug her when she needed it, to help her as much as I could, but sometimes when I tried, she just pushed me away and suffered silently. I wish there was something I could have done to help her more, but she didn't let me and to this day, I still blame myself for her death. The one person I was truly close to, is gone. There isn't a day that goes by when I don't think about Rian, the times we spent together, the days when she were happy, and the days when there wasn't a cloud in the sky of her world. Everything was fine until the day when a dark storm cloud entered her world and blocked her sunlight, that dark cloud by the name of…..Pacifica Northwest!

I don't know when Rian began having trouble out of her, but that day is when everything changed for us both and Rian became a totally different person, someone who I couldn't even recognize. She felt more like stranger than someone I use to know, a dangerous stranger. She cried herself to sleep every night, began cutting herself, and I even had to stop a few attempts of her trying to take her own life. I tried to approach her a few times and at those times, when she would run from me, and when I finally got her attention, she wouldn't even look me in the eye. She always looked to the ground or away from me, hiding her face as if she were afraid to look at me or as if she were hiding a scar she didn't want me to see. If only she would have come to talk to me, she'd still be alive today. I remember one day Rian and I were talking amongst ourselves in the main hall of Gravity Falls Junior high when Pacifica along with her flunkies felt it was their duty to pay us a visit…..

Flashback

"So tonight, I say we catch a movie and then go see Chad." Rian suggested as the two girls stopped at Rian's locker. "I know he likes you so let's give him that push he needs to actually ask you out."

"Well, Chad isn't really my type." Shannon replies, leaning back against the locker next to Rian's. "But he is cute though."

"I wouldn't bother too much if I were you!" A snide and snotty voice speaks to both girls. "And you're right Shannon, Chad isn't your time, but more my type as brunettes aren't really his taste."

Already knowing who that voice belongs to, Rian turns around with Shannon looking ahead of her to see Pacifica Northwest and her two friends.

"Well, well, well, lookie who we have here." Pacifica continues as she crosses her arms across her chest while glaring at both girls. "If it isn't the blonde leading the bland or should I say, the wanna-be leading the loser!"

Having said that, Pacifica's two friends begin cackling her snappy remark.

"Don't you have like a sale at the mall to get to or something?" Shannon snaps to the blonde, Pacifica arrogantly grinning at her comeback. "Why are you always bothering on us? Aren't there some other unsuspecting kids you can go harass that haven't had the pleasure of your intrusion?"

"Well, when I see bad fashion sense, I make it my right to correct it." Pacifica replies, her eyes now tracing over Rian's outfit that consists of blue jean flare leg pants, a blue cashmere sweater, and black gym shoes. "And someone certainly needs to learn that cashmere doesn't go well with gym shoes! Or someone with bad fashion sense for that matter."

Rian now turns back to her locker, hiding the sudden sadness that has come over her and the tears that are threatening to surface to her eyes. Seeing how sad Rian has become, Shannon turns back to Pacifica with a glare.

"I'll have you know I picked that outfit out for her!" Shannon growls, now stepping into the blonde's face. "So if you have a problem with it, you take that up with me and leave her out of it!"

"Well, at least we know where she got her sense of fashion from." Pacifica laughs. "You two are a disaster waiting to happen and whatever you do, stay out of the thrift stores. I don't care how many sales they may have!"

Not being able to take anymore of Pacifica's teasing, Rian slams her locker shut and takes off down the hall, her tears now spilling down her cheeks. Giving Pacifica one last glare, Shannon takes off down the hall after her in an attempt to comfort her, the sound of Pacifica and her friends' evil cackling following closely behind them.

End of Flashback

After that day, Rian just changed for the worst. She became distant and began doing things that I never thought someone like her would ever do such as….I can't even say it as it was too painful for me to witness her doing it, especially when I had to stop her several times. While my last attempt yielded results, I wish I could have been there before it escalated out of hand.

Flashback

Having tried calling Rian numerous times on her cell phone, Shannon rushed over to Rian's house, ringing the doorbell over and over, hoping to get an answer. Knowing the change the girl is going through, Shannon did her best not to assume the worst.

"Rian! Rian, open up!" Shannon shouts, hoping to get a response from the girl. "Rian, its Shannon!"

Having screamed nearly at the top of her lungs, the front door to Rian's house now opens with her mother standing in the door way. Getting a good look at her face, Shannon notices that the woman's eyes are puffy and red, looking as if she has been crying.

"Hi Mrs. Brown." Shannon hastily greets the woman. "Where's Rian? I tried calling her, but she didn't answer her phone. Is she alright?"

Mrs. Brown doesn't answer, but moves aside to let Shannon enter the house. Running in, Shannon darts up the stairs and stops at the first door to her right which is Rian's room. Opening the door, Shannon steps in, but stops upon entering the room, the sight in front of her making the woman want to fall to her knees and burst into tears.

In front of her is Rian, but not the Rian she knows. What she sees now is a fragment of Rian Brown, the person she grew up with, the best person in her life, and the person she came to love as family. This Rian, this girl, Shannon doesn't even recognize right now. This Rian has sliced her hair off, giving it an uneven cut, there are slash marks up and down the girl's arms and legs that looks as if they have just been made, and her left eye is swollen shut. The sight of the girl at this moment is bringing tears to Shannon's eyes, but she has to be strong for Rian.

Running to her side, Shannon quickly engulfs the girl in the hug, cradling her in her arms. Seeing a bloody knife in Rian's left hand, Shannon quickly takes it from her and throws it across the room. Rian has broken down in Shannon's arms and is crying against her left shoulder with Shannon doing her best not to add fuel to the fire by breaking into tears herself.

"I can't! I just can't do this anymore!" Rian chokes out through her tears. "I don't know what to do, but I refuse to go back!"

"What can't you do and go back where?" Shannon sympathetically asks Rian while trying to catch with the girl's vision. While understanding the girl is hurting, Shannon wishes just once that Rian would look at her.

"Pacifica and her friends!" Rian continues hear tears getting heavier. "After school today, they attacked me. I tried ignoring them while I was at my locker, but when I got to the court yard, they surrounded me and began punching and kicking me! I can't go back to that school! I just can't, especially if they are going to be there!"

"But what happened to your hair?" Shannon questions. "Did they do this?"

"No, I did it." Ran replies. "Pacifica kept making fun of me and talking so badly about my hair all day that I just came home and cut it all off! Now she won't have anything else to say about it!"

"But there was no reason to cut it off." Shannon speaks calmly to the shattered girl. "Your hair is very beautiful just like you."

"No I'm not!" Rian screams breaking out of Shannon's grip and curling into a ball on the floor. "I'm as ugly as Pacifica says I am every day! That's why I don't have a boyfriend or any real friends!"

"You don't listen to her!" Shannon slightly sneers. "Pacifica is just a miserable witch who enjoys putting others down so she can feel better about herself. Never listen to what she has to say! You are a great person and a wonderful friend to anyone who meets you. You don't need a lot of friends to be defined because you have me who loves you very much!"

"Yea, you're the only one who thinks anything about me!" Rian snaps. "Just get out and leave me alone! I just want to be left alone!"

"I'm not leaving here." Shannon replies to the girl. "Especially since you've been cutting yourself! Ok, this has to stop and today! You can't keep letting Pacifica get to you like this, you have to think against her! She is miserable and jealous of your sunny spirit and nature. She's only doing this so you can be as miserable as she is!"

"I'm not like you Shannon, you're stronger than I am and can stand up to her." Rian replies, still not making eye contact with Shannon. "I can't stand up to her like you can."

"Yes, you can and you'll always have me there to help you." Shannon voices.

Lifting Rian off of the ground, Shannon cradles the girl in her arms once more while helping to quiet her sobbing.

"We're in this together." Shannon whispers while doing her best to console Rian. "You're not alone, you're never alone."

End of Flashback

That day was heartbreaking for me to see her like that, broken into so many pieces and letting herself fall deeper and deeper into depression to the point of hurting herself. I couldn't sleep for two entire weeks knowing that Rian was going through a world of mental pain all thanks to Pacifica and what she had to face every day while in school with her. I did my best to encourage her, empower her, and lift her up, but Pacifica just kept ripping apart her spirit shred by shred until there wasn't anything left but an empty shell of the Rian Brown I used to know and who knew me. Things were so different that the last time I heard from Rian was a week before our junior high dance in which I encouraged her to go to, despite that witch being there, that Tuesday to be exact. However, I wish I would have stayed with her the night before we were to go pick out our dresses that day because then I could have prevented the one thing that gave me nightmares after witnessing it, even to this very day.

Final Flashback

Going to Rian's house so the two girls can go shopping for their dresses for the dance, Shannon arrives to Rian's house only to be met with a scene of an ambulance and Coroner in front of Rian's house. Feeling her heart and pulse beginning to race, Shannon runs over to the house as the Coroner and the paramedics walk out of Rian's front door with a stretcher and on it, a body covered with a white sheet. Instantly freezing at the sight, Shannon is then approached by Rian's mom who begins hugging Shannon while crying at the same time.

"She's gone!" Mrs. Brown breaks down. "My little girl is gone! I just can't believe it!"

"What…..what happened?" Shannon manages to stammer out while watching the Coroner load the body in the back of the truck. "What happened? Tell me!"

"I don't know what she did, but when I woke up, I saw her lying on her floor and when calling her name, she didn't respond." Mrs. Brown chokes out. "I tried shaking her awake, but I just couldn't wake her up, but I found this next to her."

A note is then slipped into Shannon's hands with Rian's mom continuing to sob loudly.

With two shaky hands, Shannon opens the note and begins reading the words that are scribbled across the piece of paper, despite the tear stains.

~I just can't take this anymore! She has gotten worse and no matter what I do, I just can't take her teasing anymore! No one has stood up for me and nothing can be done about her! I'm sorry for what I have to do, but please forgive me! Shannon, Mom, I'll never forget you and thanks for everything you've done for me! Good bye!~

-Rian

With tears rushing to the surface of her eyes, Shannon crumbles the note between her hands and falls to her knees as she breaks out into a heavy sob herself. While the note clearly states that Rian took her own life, it is still not registering in Shannon's mind that the one true person that meant the world to her is gone. Nothing in the world could ever convince her that Rian is gone until reality makes her believe it.

End of Final Flashback

That was the darkest day in my world and especially for her mom who lost her daughter, her only child. Rian was all her mother had left after her father died of a heart attack when she was 9. Pacifica truly pushed Rian over the edge and thought nothing about it. The school principle didn't do anything to put Pacifica in her place when she was bullying Rian and her parents never handled the situation either for some unknown reason. Maybe because they were so full of themselves that they allowed her to get away with whatever she wanted. Just disgusting!

I now turn to the picture of Pacifica that I placed on my wall that I horribly mutilated after learning of Rian's death, her face being my main target. I have gouged the eyes out and sliced off areas throughout her perfect hair, while also slicing the neck of the picture several times. Pacifica is going to pay for taking Rian from me, pay with her life! I'm going to make her suffer in the worse way, more so than Rian! If she thinks she's going to get away with this, she has another thing coming! While her parents and the principle refused to do anything about her, I'm going to do what they didn't, only much worse!

I recently saw a story on television about Pacifica being rescued by some guy named Dipper Pines from some kidnappers who actually wanted to go near that piece of filth! I can't believe someone actually wanted to go near her, let alone actually wants to date that thing! Well, now that I know the nightmare her life was truly like, she better brace herself because she has no idea what is in store for her now. Since she made Rian's life a living nightmare, I'm going to make sure she gets a hefty dose of her own medication, showing her that her actions do have consequences, giving me the motives I need to pay her back.

She was raped by a guy named Johnathon Larson who is just a big of a snob as she is and she was kidnapped by a guy named Ryan Banes, both who tore her apart just like what she did to Rian. At this point, she is broken with no chance of fully getting her life back together. That's perfect for me.

Well I'm going to see to it that she doesn't and even more so, make sure that her nightmare continues. Thank you Pacifica, for giving me the motives I need to make sure you suffer in the worse way possible and when you get on the other side, say hi to Rian for me.
