As always, thank you for the reviews! :D Always a pleasure to see the same people reviewing this story, you guys really do and truly make my day.
Especially Jackalope89, for his amazing narrations for each chapter, haha.
Enjoy!
Just like recent events in her life, it occurred so quickly, it took what felt like ages to comprehend what going on right in front of her. Things were usually fast-paced in her life, but new situations such as these were arising and she couldn't quite figure out how to respond. It was hard to believe that she was dragged into this because she decided to take on the General's mission. Not like it wouldn't have happened anyway; L long awaited the moment to seize the scroll and take vengeance, far before the mission ever took place, even before the Cell Games seven years ago.
Once more, she thought of this other outcome that could have been. Would she have been here anyway to help Sensei and Yori? Of course, but she didn't think she would survive long enough to be of any help considering Drakken's hire of the assassin all those months ago. L was simply stronger and faster than her, and with their previous confrontations, she had been the one standing over her as the victor. It was almost as if she was fated to accept the mission to prevent her own assassination, although to her displeasure. Being saved by a psychopathic, and overly conceited bio-android wasn't something she expectantly expected.
Just like Cell's freedom at Area 51, Team Go's demise, and L's sudden, uninvited arrival at Global Justice, this too had transpired too fast for her mind to catch up. Eventually, when it did, she saw a bright light enveloping her entire vicinity. That's when what just happened hit her all at once, and the dread that appeared moments earlier rapidly grew.
L was feeling stretched far past her limit, virtually struggling to adjust to the energy she had just taken from Gohan. She underestimated him greatly, his power was just as immense as the other warriors and she couldn't adjust to it as quickly and effortlessly as before. The scroll had worked wonders for her earlier for Vegeta's attack, so why now? Why was it backfiring on her now? Why did it choose to cease its purpose at this very moment? It was like a sudden rejection to its owner, deciding to make her suffer rather than gifting her with unlimited energy.
As this was occurring, time slowed down dramatically beforehand. She knew about the surge of energy heading right in her direction, and what it would mean if the scroll continued to reject her. Was this... its purpose all along? To deceive her and destroy her along with itself? Just like everyone she once knew, this legendary parchment was merciless and cruel.
A sudden warmth blanketed her now, erupting from her core one final time. Whether it was a trick or not, she had no choice. She had to take all of the attacks in, along with their energy. If she went against it, she would die, and if the scroll rejected her once more afterward, she would die. So, again, there really wasn't much space for an alternative out of this.
And that's when it hit. Time eventually returned to its normal pace and the speed of the attacks increased a dozen-fold, if not more. L braced for taking in everything they had, even if it would wipe her out on the spot. Even then, if she failed it would wipe out those behind her. It was a lose-win scenario, at least. If she went out, at least one person would go out with her.
Using her invisible appendages along with her own hands, she created her own version of a black hole with a powerful gravitational pull. The speed of the attacks increased and raced right into her hands, the energy practically being sucked from the hands of Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo. It almost seemed they were no longer powering their attacks, if anything, she was doing the job for them.
"This is it! It's Armageddon!" Ron shouted, him and Rufus staring with a horrified expression right at the almost blinding light in front of him. The three attacks uniting into one and flowing endlessly into the assassin right before them.
"Plan! What's the plan?!" Kim's voice shouted in her thoughts.
She and the others were literally seconds away from being reduced to nothing along with the Earth. One final time, she scoured her surroundings for a solution; an answer, anything! With all her might, she resisted the urge to yank on her hair in desperation and fly into a panic just like Ron. She was usually nonchalant in a doomsday-like situation, but this was way out of her expertise! She turned to Sensei and noticed his expression hadn't faltered in the slightest. As usual, he was cool and composed, without a worry in the world. That meant things would be fine, right?
"Right?!" Kim asked mentally, almost begging. If things were going to be fine, why was she completely absent-minded while everything was going downhill right in front of her? The question itself nearly caused her to yell out in frustration.
Betty couldn't tell if this sight was worse than the sight she witnessed many years ago. She could almost remember it perfectly, her silhouette in front of the old man and an infant in his arms. Horrifyingly enough, below her was a beheaded corpse. It was grotesque and macabre of course, but it created an equal amount of fear and dread to arise from within.
All Shego wanted was to confront the almighty Cell for ridding the world of her brothers, she hadn't anticipated all of this. She also wanted to give Kim a beat down, but that was just a plus. She couldn't determine whether she was angry at the chimera for murdering her brothers or for being the one to actually do it. If anything, she expected to defeat them all on her own. She was scared of course, but livid as well. Kim would figure something out, she always did anyway. She'll be fine... at least, that's what she thought until she saw the current demeanor of the redhead.
"Oh brother," she muttered to herself, placing her head in her palm.
"I.. I can't stop it!" Piccolo yelled, unable to pull his arms away from the assassin.
The other two were in the same boat. Experimentally, they tried to pry their arms away and move it toward a different direction, but they were fixed onto one spot, completely immobilized. They could literally feel their bodies being emptied out and directed into the source of the gravity.
Cell truly had no clue how this all came to be. He assumed it would've come to this anyway had he decided differently in the past. If she wanted large amounts of energy, she would've targeted and sought out the Z warriors anyway, along with him. She'd also probably get rid of the redhead as well without him in the way, so really, the outcome really wouldn't have altered.
"Well, either way, regenerating from a single cell again shouldn't be an issue," he thought. He had done it twice now, the first literally being from a planetary explosion. The Earth was far bigger, but its gravity was 10 times weaker than that of the planet that had been destroyed by him. He was confident he would survive though since Gohan's Kamehameha along with his own had failed to completely destroy him. This mud ball's explosion shouldn't be enough to do him in.
Curiously, he cast his eyes back at the main building to see what was going on. To his amusement, he saw an utterly helpless and confused Gohan, along with many others with a similar expression. Despite his current situation, it was pretty funny, to say the least. Especially Kim's face; she absolutely had no idea what to do! Her face resembled that of the one she used to wear when she was confined to the clearing: despair. It did bring him some joy to see that in her last moments, she would have nothing but despair, knowing also that he would live forever. Oh wait, she didn't know that. She probably thought he was as good as gone like the rest of them. Now, he couldn't have that happening, could he?
Kim continued to comb the area in a desperate manner. It shouldn't end like this, she had successfully disarmed doomsday devices in the past without any trouble at all, so why was this so different? She guessed it was because this time, the device was a person and not an emotionless, unfeeling machine. With that odd sentiment in mind, her eyes flicked to Cell. She always hated the monster, maybe he was panicking and in desperation just like she was. She didn't like the thought of revenge, but that enough would satisfy the suppressed ill will inside her.
What she got was the exact opposite: his eyes were already on her, and on his face was a wide smirk. That by itself was certainly unexpected... Now he was mouthing something, almost repetitively. Was he trying to say something to her? Some kind of last words he decided to tell her? She would've thought it was at least pleasant, but from the look on his face, she began to doubt it. Once she could make out what he was saying, her eyes widened.
I will live forever.
"Oh, you are so not doing this right now! Is this some kind of sick joke?!" she thought lividly. Even now, when the Earth could be blown any second, he decided it was as good a time as ever to mess with her. Just when she thought he couldn't get any worse, he starts pulling this crap in their possible last moments. There was no way she was going to let this slide.
The heroine yanked her eyes off of him and continued her search for a solution to their problem, this time, with a determined attitude. She didn't like that Cell's stupid joke would be the reason she found an answer, but the look on his face when she would say why and how she saved the Earth would be enough to compensate. She felt less panicky than earlier, that alone was a surprise, but it wasn't something she was going to thank the bio-jerk for. Her anger numbing out her fear for the moment wasn't exactly a good thing in her mind, but it was definitely something she needed. Right now she had to put all her efforts into saving the Earth, any sort of loathing or resentment against him would have to be pushed aside.
With that in mind, she began to think. What would keep the rapidly growing energy contained? It had nowhere else to go but outside when L's body would reach its limit. Was there a way to move that energy away safely? It seemed far-fetched if anything impossible. There was far too much energy building up inside her, it didn't seem like a likely solution. She thought maybe Sensei could use his own ability to take energy out of her and give it back to the Z warriors one at a time. It would take too much time, and she didn't know how fast he could take it from her, or how much energy he could hold within his own body.
So she went back to the containing option. As much as she disliked it.. the only thing that could be able to contain that much energy was the containment device around Cell, and she really, really did not want to release him. Maybe she could split the device in half and put the other on L? She wasn't much of a tech genius, so she didn't want to risk releasing him. Otherwise, the Earth's existence would be threatened once again. Of course, she had faith in Goku, but as of now, his energy was being taken by the assassin. By the time she would manage to get the containment device on the woman, Goku's energy might not be ample to be on par with Cell, so that couldn't be the answer.
"Come on, come on, keep looking, the answer is close, just have to think outside the box!" she told herself, and unbeknownst to her, she was right. The answer, despite how much she absolutely despised it, was right in front of her. It was definitely life-risking, but as of now, it was the only option left.
"Okay Sensei, I know how important destiny and fate is, but I am freaking, like, bad," Kim noted to the old man aloud.
"You've gotten close to it, Miss Possible, but you deliberately, yet unintentionally avoided it," he responded. "I will give you a hint in about, say.. a few seconds."
Once more, the answer threw her off the loop. She thought she got what he said earlier, but it seemed now she was drifting away from it. All of this was supposed to happen, but for what reason? The reason she suggested to him was partially right, which meant it was part of something bigger; something she just wasn't seeing. After contemplating it, she focused on the last part of his response. A few seconds? What was he talking about?
The light dissipated and the three warriors who powered it just stood there in silence. They felt.. empty? Like a husk, but they weren't dead either. Moving was no issue, but anything that seemed extraordinary to humans was now far beyond them. They were equivalent to that of an average man in the world.
L was trembling violently, her arms wrapping around herself in an attempt to compose her body. She was pulsing red like mad, it resembling the flashing lights of a fire alarm. Even with her tries to contain the energy, some managed to escape in blasts, even so, that wouldn't be enough to prevent the big bang that would occur any moment now.
Kim noticed the woman's dangerous glow but also noticed a little something else. The tattoo on her chest was glowing as well but in a different color. It was the same mellow yellow glow she emitted earlier when she successfully took in Vegeta's attack. Why was it glowing that color? What did it mean?
"The scroll never disappeared, just placed itself on its host," Sensei continued. "Perhaps, if it were no longer in her possession, things would return to the way they were."
When the redhead heard him, she cast her eyes on him once more quickly. So the last kanji that stuck itself on her chest, was the scroll itself? Now she was getting somewhere! If it was like a sticker, maybe she could peel it off! That on its own was an issue, seeing how blasts continuously shot out of her body. The blasts of which had the energy of all those around her, so that truly told her how lethal it was to get near her.
"Careful, those blasts are very powerful!" Goku yelled to the people around him, using the best of his ability to dodge them. Seeing that he had the ability of a normal, human man, it was quite difficult to do so. He began to understand the struggle of those weaker than him.
"How can this be happening? She's just one lousy human!" Vegeta remarked incredulously, and angrily. The situation had completely flipped on them and now it was a fight for survival.
The other two, along with Trunks and Krillin in his vicinity acted accordingly to his words. They dodged with the best of their ability, though, it was not much due to their weakened state. Any given moment, one blast could deliver a fatal blow.
"There's no way I can get past those! That's impossible!" Kim exclaimed, unknowingly saying it out loud.
For the moment, Ron ceased panicking. He looked at his girlfriend with an incredulous look. "Impossible? Never thought I'd see the day."
The redhead stared at him with a puzzled look, even more so when he approached her and grabbed her by the shoulders firmly. "KP, nothing is impossible! Not even for you! Especially you! You're Kim Possible, you can do anything!"
He was right. Kim had gone this far and there was no way she was going to back down now. She was glad Ron stuck by her, he'd always be the one to guide her in the right direction whenever she felt all hope was lost, especially that time when she was completely convinced Drakken had finally won all those months ago. With her head back on, she returned her focus to the issue at hand. As of now, the current issue was the blasts sporadically firing out of L's body, one hit and she would be a goner in an instant. She needed to dodge them, she just didn't know how. She was far too slow and far too weak to survive them.. maybe if she were launched, then just maybe...
The thought of someone just grabbing her out and chucking her at a bomb was certainly surprising, but it wasn't the first time. The only idea she had in her mind right now, and there wasn't time left for another. She had to go through with this immediately and without reluctance. She was just thankful that there was at least one person near her who possessed enough strength to throw her at the assassin fairly quickly. It looked like she didn't need to resort to that last, dreaded option after all-
A blast had suddenly hit Ron and he flew backward through the building and outside into the woods. A rather average-sized explosion ensued shortly afterward. Kim stood there with a shocked expression, unable to comprehend what had just occurred. She really did have to jinx it, did she? As much as she wanted to scream, she had no time to, she had to worry about the issue at hand. Ron was pretty strong, he probably survived that, just as he survived fighting Cell.
"I just have to have faith," she thought quickly, her eyes then flicking to Gohan, hoping dearly he had some energy left, any bit would count!
"Hey, Gohan, uh, do you still have some energy left?" Kim asked the demi-Saiyan awkwardly.
Gohan turned to her with a look that said it all. No certainty, no hope, nothing. He really had no energy left in him, at least, none that would launch her across the sky. She groaned loudly and yanked on her hair, and then, regrettably, her eyes moved to Cell. The only person who possessed great energy and that said energy was still intact. He looked back with a smug expression, and that only made her feel even less inclined to free him. Maybe he could take the tattooed kanji off of her? He was certainly faster, and strong enough to take the blasts should they hit him. There was the risk of his energy being taken, but maybe L was too distracted trying not to blow herself up?
"What if he won't wanna help?"
The sudden question in her head threw her for a loop. A great number of things could transpire after he would be free. First off, he could just fly off away from the explosion, leaving them all to die. Or he could decide to actually punish her as he planned, and how he would do it, she didn't want to know. One thing was for sure, he would be out and about, doing and finishing what he long planned. There had to be a reason he decided to mouth, "I will live forever," to her. Was he confident that he would survive the explosion? She knew he was bulletproof, so was he even more durable than she realized?
"No time for analyzing!" she scolded herself. "I'll just have to improvise, he'll have to help somehow." She managed to save herself when he nearly took her life earlier in the forest. Quick thinking was her only option, so she'll have to make do when the time came.
Once she finished thinking, she instinctively turned back to see everyone else. Gohan was trying to shield Videl from the blasts, Yori was dodging the best she could and Shego was trying to shoot them away with her own plasma. Dr. Director, however, stood still, and yet she never managed to get hit by them. Finally, she looked at Sensei, and he looked back with a firm nod.
She hit it right on the nail after all.
No wonder he didn't tell Ron, he would've greatly opposed to it as soon as it made its way to his ears. That's what she thought, at least.
With a quick inhale, she dived into the scene in front of her. With the best of her ability, she dodged the blasts headed in her direction. There was some relief in the fact that Cell wasn't close in proximity to the assassin up ahead, but the blasts would get much harder to dodge the closer she got. One had singed her hair and another had just missed her body entirely. One flew in her direction and she began to react, but her body was not fast enough to completely move away, so her arm was struck. As a result, she tumbled across the ground, landing directly in front of the chimera with her face almost facing the ground.
Kim took a gander at her arm and saw a similar view right before her. The burns and blood everywhere; it all seemed too mortifying at this point. A wound so similar to the one the bio-android inflicted upon her those months ago, and he was right in front of her. The battle suit repaired itself, covering the wound altogether, but it did little to mend the injury. Although it was hidden, it was definitely there, and agonizing.
With as much strength and will she could muster, she faced the monster in front of her. She looked up from the ground and saw his face just inches away from her own, his smirk surprisingly gone. There was some residue of complacency, but overall there was something else. It was a look of expectancy, as if he was expecting her to do something, and most likely in his favor. Did he predict that she would reach out for his aid once again? She hoped not, otherwise, it would make this situation a thousand times more embarrassing.
"Uh, hi," she just said tersely, using her one good arm to push herself up.
"Hi."
The returned greeting seemed genuine—genuinely impatient. He knew what was going to be done, he was just waiting painfully for her to actually go through with it. The fact that she wasn't doing anything worthwhile at the moment was gnawing at his already dwindling patience.
Kim looked at the containment device and with one strong, fell swoop of her good arm, it opened right up, releasing the chimera and returning to its small, cube-like form. As soon as possible, Cell got up to his feet and kicked away the device so fast it shot right up to the sky, just in case the redhead decided to change her mind. He did NOT want a repeat of the last two times. He feared that next time it would actually be permanent.
The heroine looked behind him and saw that L was no longer pulsing red, but a dangerously about-to-blow-and-destroy-the-planet red. The blasts had gradually come to a stop as the color got brighter and brighter that it could barely even be perceived as red.
Cell turned to the heroine and opened his mouth to say something but she beat him to the punch.
"Throw me," she said quickly.
"What?"
"Cell, there's literally zero time for an explanation, I just need you to throw me at L right now!" she shouted.
Without hesitation, the bio-android grabbed her by the back of her battle suit and chucked her at the assassin. There was no downfall in complying, he thought. Throwing the redhead to her death certainly was entertaining by itself, and watching her blow up should give him a good laugh. Maybe that would be her punishment; her flying to her own demise by him with the thought of everything and everyone she knew being destroyed in her head. That, or she probably knew how to prevent the explosion somehow. Either way, he didn't care, he was free and that was all that mattered.
Hey guys! As promised, the chapter has been reduced like the previous one, so I hope the update is at least earlier than usual.
Anyway, thanks for reading! I promise the next chapter will be longer than this one since it might be the end. Not the end of the story, per se, but the end of this "arc". There still should be about three or four more chapters until the story is truly over.
Until then!
