The Light in the Shadows
Chapter 36: Flying

The full moon shown down making the night sea glitter as waves crashed against the shore. A large shadow dove down pulling up to glide above the water laughing in delight.
Dark grinned widely stretching his inky wings out to their fullest extent. The kaito basked in the feeling of his muscles shifting while the night air glided across his feathers. Now that he had his own form and was no longer just a spirit tied to the Niwa blood line. He could summon his true wings with no worry of hurting his tamer. As much as he enjoyed flying with Wiz there was just no comparison for soaring through the starry night sky under his own power. The Kaito dropped lower skimming along just above the dark water with a chuckle he reached out trailing his fingers through the cool ocean serf. He pulled up hovering close to the cliff just letting the wind ruffle purple locks.
The thief looked up attention captured by icy power brushing across his senses. Amethyst eyes watched the other figure spiraling high above, it seemed that he wasn't the only one who had felt the call of the full moon tonight. Tan lips curved up into an admiring smile at the other entity's elegant display. The magic that had granted him with his own body had also affected his counterpart who had made himself scarce immediately after. To be quite honest the phantom had started to miss his psychotic opposite.
Dark chuckled softly to himself if anyone even a few months ago would have told him that he'd ever miss his blond rival; he would have laughed himself stupid. But it was true, his heist were no longer fun or, thrilling or even a challenge any more. He could evade the police with ease and even the bratty commander posed little difficulty. He missed the heart pounding adrenaline rush he got whenever his hunter appeared, he missed the blond's vicious sarcasm and call him crazy but he even missed dodging fireballs aimed at his head. Large black wings stretched before beating down powerfully sending their owner higher into the sky towards the other artwork.
Golden eyes closed as pale lips curled into a contented smile. Krad stretched his wings to their fullest extent spiraling up high above the ocean. He was free, he had his own body and he no longer had to fight for every moment of control. He had left as soon as he could stand. He had left before Satoshi had awoken from the separation. The kaito had been stirring when he had regained consciousness but the hunter hadn't stuck around to see the other entity's reaction. He was not going to be caged and bound now that he was finally free. The blond angel's attention was caught by the feeling of warm dark power. Feline eyes snapped open to regard the figure flying towards him. The hunter cocked his head considering for a moment before curling his wings and turning to fly in the opposite direction of, well… his opposite.
Dark narrowed his eyes as his counterpart started flying in the other direction. Well, if that was the way Krad wanted to play it, the kaito was more than happy to oblige the other entity. He flapped powerfully picking up speed rapidly closing the distance between the two angel's. He grinned when he noticed the blond glance over his shoulder amber eyes widening in surprise before narrowing.
The Hikari Hunter snorted to himself, well, if this was how his counterpart was wanting to play then bring it on. Snowy wings stroked down hard propelling the light entity faster through the sky. He glanced over his shoulder again only to see the dark angel following. Pale lips curled up into a smirk as Krad folded his wings diving down towards the cliffs and the windmills a top them. It was almost too easy dodging in around the spinning blades now that he didn't have his tamer fighting him for control. Actually the centuries of battling for control had drastically improved his abilities now he had his own form. It was like training with weights and now that the weights were removed he was faster, stronger, better.
The kaito slapped harder struggling to close the distance between the two halve. Since when had Krad gotten this fast? He dodged the last blade following his hunter once more high into the sky. If this was the way his opposite could fly now that he had his own body he might actually have more of a challenge then he'd first thought if the blond agreed to battle him during his heists once more. The thief grinned, how exciting! However after chasing the other entity across the sky through twists and turns, dives and climbs he was not as amused. Dark growled in frustration before calling out, "I never thought I'd see the day where you'd be running away from me." The kaito then grinned as his opposite stopped dead turning to face him pale features set into a frown. Oh yes, that comment had pricked the hunter's pride. The kaito glided up and hovered a few feet from the tight lipped annoyed blond angel.
"Excuse me?" Golden eyes narrowed, "I wasn't running from you thief. It's called avoidance and is usually done when someone does not wish to interact with another." Krad folded his arms across his chest. "Now what do you want? I was busy."
The phantom waved one hand lazily, "whatever." He moved a bit closer amethyst eyes glittering. "Now that I have your attention I have something to ask you." He watched as his counterpart lifted one blond eyebrow in question. The purple haired thief nodded, "hunt me again."
The ice demon nearly fell out of the air in shock, "w-what?"
The black winged entity snickered at the complete gobsmacked expression the other angel was now wearing. In their four centuries of life he had seen many different emotions from the other half of his soul; rage, glee, annoyance, frustration, dismay, even amusement but never complete and total surprise. It was rather cute. Although he was most definitely not saying that ever with in the ice demon's range of hearing. Out loud where Krad might find out best to keep that opinion locked within his brain.
Krad stared at the darker being in bewilderment wondering if he'd heard the thief right. What on earth was the other magical creature playing at? "I'm sorry, could you repeat that?"
Amethyst eyes rolled, "I said… hunt me again." He cocked his head tone becoming teasing, "you haven't developed a hearing problem have you? I mean you are kind of old."
The hunter sighed in exasperation, "first of all, I am no older then you are, second my hearing is just fine and thirdly… why, I thought you would be pleased to be rid of your psychotic enemy."
The black winged angel sighed himself, "Honestly, I thought I would be happy never to see you again." He closed his eyes for a moment before opening them once more. "But I was wrong." Dark moved just a bit closer, "I feel as if something is missing. You have been the one constant in my life." He then grinned, "besides, you're the only one who can challenge me," the kaito's tone turned winy, "my heist are boring now!"
Golden eyes rolled this time, "seriously?" The long haired angel pinched the bridge of his nose. As much as he hated to admit it his other half was right. He too had felt as if something had been missing ever since he'd gained his own body but he had just put it down to being unused to being the only one in his head. He had shared a mind with a Hikari from the moment he'd gained awareness until a few months ago. It was a big change, but now that his counterpart was here in front of him; he could feel the other's magic wrapping around him soothing the ache deep within him. Apparently the two angels needed some kind of contact to feel complete; which if he thought about it made since, they were two halves of the same statue after all. Damned if he was going to say that out loud though.
"Uh Krad," the thief hesitated before reaching out towards the other entity. His fingers were stopped however before they could make contact with the blond.
Krad absently reached up catching the phantom's wrist in his left hand before the other angel could touch him, "okay, fine."
The purple haired thief opened his mouth to argue his point before blinking in surprise, "fine?" He shook his head, "you're agreeing, just like that?"
The hunter smirked at the surprised expression on the thief's face. The other artwork apparently hadn't expected him to agree so quickly. "yes, fine. I will hunt you again on your heists." His tone then turned teasing, "you have not contracted a hearing problem have you?" He released the other entity's wrist, "however," he held up a finger, "tell me, what do I get out of this arrangement?"
"Ha, ha," the black feathered being blinked in confusion, "wait, what do you mean?"
Krad cocked his head, "what do I get out of hunting you again?" the white angel brushed a strand of hair from his face, "you get the thrill of our fights. What do I get?"
"Um, the thrill of the fight?" The kaito frowned slightly confused on what his counterpart was after.
"Hmm," the flaxen haired being shook his head slowly, "no," he then smiled deviously, "How about I get the artwork. If I catch you, I get your target for the night."
The phantom frowned deeper for a moment before shrugging, "okay, sounds fair." The purple haired angel then grinned excitedly, "I have a heist in three days at midnight."
Snowy wings stretched, "very well then." The ice demon beat down powerfully gaining height over the thief before turning to glide away a small unseen smile curving his lips.
Dark's grin widened in delight actually bouncing a bit in the air. His next heist was going to be so much fun! He couldn't wait!
