Mai walked quickly away from Naru's apartment. She couldn't stay there anymore, it hurt too much to be around Naru right now. Didn't he realize how much he hurt others with his words? Mai shook her head. Of course not, he didn't even know why she was upset until she finally told him. Even then he refused to believe her. He thinks he just always has to be right about everything.

She was scowling so much that she practically scared anyone she passed. Not that she really cared at the moment. She started to walk a bit faster. She really wanted to just get back to her own home. Wrap up in a blanket and try to forget the last several days. Maybe she would have a nice warm drink too. Mai nodded to herself. Yeah, that would be nice. So once she finally got to her apartment she did just that. She made herself a nice cup of tea and curled up underneath a blanket. She decided to just watch TV for now since she didn't want anything to do today. She switched on a talent show and soon started to doze off welcoming the dreamless sleep.

There was an annoying ringing sound. It would go off every so often then stop then start up again a few minutes later. Mai opened her eyes groggily and groaned. She picked up the still ringing phone. She was too sleepy to even look to see who it was calling. She grunted down the phone, too tired to be bothered to give an actual greeting. Who would be calling her anyways? Everyone knew she was staying at Naru's, well everyone except...

"Mai..." He breathed. She was tempted to put the phone back down. What did he want? Shouldn't he be happy she left?

"What do you want Naru?" She sighed eventually.

"Mai just come back."

"No Naru." Mai said firmly.

This time Naru sighed. "Okay, fine, if I promise not to fight with you anymore will you come back?"

"I'm sorry Naru but no, I just can't."

"Why?" He whispered. Mai didn't know how to respond. Well, in all honesty, it was just all the fighting that made her leave. But there would be no way that Naru would keep the promise of not fighting with her. It just seemed too impossible for him not to fight with her. It was just...how they were... They couldn't help but fight. Sometimes it was just teasing each other, others was their petty arguments, but then there were the fights that came with tears. She just couldn't cope with anymore of that.

"I...I told you before, I can't do it anymore..."

"But I've promised I'll try to stop fighting with you."

Mai chuckled with disbelief. "Do you really think we could do that?!"

"I believe it's possible." Naru said adamantly.

"How?"

"Well, if you stopped disagreeing with me and just admitted I was right..."

Mai made a 'really?' face even though Naru couldn't see it. He's really saying that after what they just fought about? "...I'm hanging up now."

"No, Mai, don't..." Naru started.

"Give me a reason because right now you're being a pain." Mai stated.

"Because we haven't worked this out yet and you haven't agreed to come back."

Mai frowned and clenched her teeth. "I'm not going to agree to come back Naru." For a few moments, all she heard on the other end was the sound of him breathing. It was kind of creepy. Mai held the phone away from her and looked at it warily.

"Are you still there?" She heard Naru ask.

She sighed and brought the phone back to her ear. "Yeah..."

"Good. Now about you coming back." Naru continued.

Mai pressed her lips into a thin line. "Naru..." She warned.

"What? I just think it would be in your best interests to be in the same place as me."

"My best interests?!" She shrieked.

"Yes, your best interests." Naru calmly confirmed.

Mai stood up from her couch in anger. "What the heck is that supposed to mean?!"

"That it's in your best interests." Naru said in confusion. What part of that sentence did Mai not understand? How much clearer can he get?

Mai was furious. She didn't know whether to hang up or shout at him and then hang up. "All I'm saying is that you need to stay with me, Mai."

"No I don't Naru. Goodbye." She spat before hanging up on him. Really, what is wrong with him?!

She threw herself back down on the sofa and crossed her arms. "Best interest..." Mai muttered to herself and scoffed. "It's in my best interest to protect myself from his continual arguments."

She absently glared at a wall. She then realized her parent's photo was on that wall and she was now glaring at them. She immediately moved her glare to the coffee table where there was only a few girly magazines and some homework. Mai couldn't help softening her look as she thought of her parents. What would they think about all of this? It would probably just be too crazy for them to wrap their heads around. She'd be coming home in her boss' body. That was weird for even her to think about and she'd seen all sorts since starting to work for Naru. But would she even have been working for Naru if her parents were here? Probably not and she couldn't imagine her life without her SPR family. She sighed. Right now she couldn't even talk to any of them, well besides John since he knows about her and Naru switching bodies. Maybe she should give him a call and invite him over for tea and chat. 'That'd be nice...' She picked up the phone to do just that.

As she started to dial the number, she heard a knock at her door. She frowned. 'Who could that be?' The thought that John might be psychic made her chuckle. She got up to go to the door. She opened it with a smile on her face but then it dropped and she began to close the door.

"Mai, no, wait, please." Naru begged. He leaned against the door to try and stop her from closing it. Mai sighed.

"What are you doing here?"

"I thought we should discuss this in person."

"You do know there's a reason I hung up on you." He ignored that comment and pushed himself into her apartment, also ignoring her protests. He threw himself on the sofa as Mai growled and slammed the door. "Come right in why don't you?" She grumbled sarcastically.

"A cup of tea would be lovely." Naru responded ignoring her sarcasm. A vein appeared on Mai's forehead. "You look tense. Maybe you should have a cup of tea too." He suggested.

"Why do you think I'm tense?!" She said as she passed him and went to the kitchen.

Naru shrugged. "I don't know." 'It's because of you! What else would it be about?!' Mai let out a huff and switched the kettle on. Cabinets being slammed open and shut was one of the loud things Naru heard coming from the kitchen. He decided not to get up and investigate though. Mai's having a tantrum for whatever reason and he's learned he should leave her alone for a few minutes so she can calm down.

Mai came storming back in with the tea. "There!" She shouted as she shoved the tea to him. "Now drink it and get out!"

"Mai, you really should learn some manners for how to treat guests." Naru said before sipping his tea.

"And you should learn not to barge into people's homes uninvited!"

"You allowed me to enter so therefore I am not uninvited."

"I didn't allow you in here! You just pushed your way in!" Mai said, her hands in fists with a tad of pink on her cheeks.

"Prove it." Naru challenged.

"Will you stop saying that?! You always do that when you know I'm right but no, you just have to have the last word!" Naru just sipped his tea again. "You jerk, are you even listening to me?!" Mai ranted. Just why is he even here?!

"Of course." Naru replied.

"Well you sure aren't acting like it!" Mai bellowed as she started pacing back and forth.

"Is that really necessary?" Naru asked dryly.

"If you don't like it then leave." Mai retorted, continuing her movements.

"That was not what I was referring to. I was asking whether it was really necessary to act like I'm listening when the mere fact that I am should surely be sufficient." Mai paused in front of him and looked down at him questioningly. "What is it now?" Naru questioned irritably.

"Why are you even here? And don't say it's because we should be together to find out what's going on with this switch because I know good and well you don't need me for that."

"I came here because we need to talk."

"Talk about what?!" Mai asked flapping her around arms.

"About what's going on between us." Naru replied, matching her frustrated tone with his own. Why was Mai being so unreasonable? Mai sighed and sat down, running her hand through her hair.

"Didn't I just say you didn't need me for that?"

"I'm not talking about this stupid switch."

Mai touched her fingertips to her forehead. She could feel a headache coming on. "Then what is it?" Naru let out a sigh. How stupid can she be? Could she not see that all this arguing was affecting him too? He was tired of it too. Her continually saying he had done things then arguing about it when he said he didn't was doing his head in. "Well?" Mai probed.

"I'm talking about our continual arguing."

"It's impossible Naru." Mai said without hesitation.

"What is?" He asked.

"Us not fighting." She answered lifting her head up. "Why do you care so much about it anyway?"

"It's not impossible, you only think it is because you keep starting them." Mai gritted her teeth to keep from yelling and closed her eyes. 'What the hell is wrong with him?!' "If you didn't keep pursuing issues after I have denied knowledge of them, or whatever the issue at the time is, then we wouldn't argue further in order to maintain our opinion." Naru continued.

"You know what," Mai began. "Fine. Think whatever you want now. I know what's true." Mai's attitude irritated Naru further. Wasn't she listening?

"I'm not trying to start a fight, Naru, I'm just saying." She professed like she read his mind. Naru sipped his tea. He wasn't sure how to proceed without setting Mai off again. "If you think you didn't do anything that I said then fine, I won't say anything about it. I promise." She continued. She was just seriously tired of it. Naru can think whatever he wants, it's none of her business. She sighed and sipped her tea. Naru sat there watching her. He didn't know what to say or do next. Sometimes he feels like Mai's a ticking bomb that he's trying to defuse. One bad move and he's dead.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" She asked. Naru blinked back to reality.

"What...?"

"You're looking at me like I'm going to explode." Mai eyed him skeptically.

"No I'm not." Naru denied.

Mai sighed. "Fine."

"I-if I did I didn't mean to." Naru struggled to say. Admitting to maybe doing something wrong was rather new to him. Mai peeked at him through her black hair and then slowly began to nod.

"I accept that." She said. Naru gave an awkward nod and a small smile. Mai gave a small smile in return. 'At least he's trying...' They both sipped their tea as silence overtook them again. A somewhat awkward silence at that. Neither knew what to say next. Mai let out a silent sigh. Then she remembered something. How did Naru get here so fast? It took her at least an hour and a half to get here from his place and they'd just been talking on the phone so how had he managed to get here so quickly after she hung up on him?

"Naru..." She asked curiously.

"What?" Naru asked in return.

"How...how did you get here so fast? I mean we were, um, just talking...on the phone..." 'Before I hung up at you.' Mai mentally added.

"I used my cell as I was already on my way over here. Really Mai, you should learn to check the caller display before answering, I could've been a serial killer." Naru chided.

"Oh...wait, why would a serial killer call me?" Naru just shrugged in answer. Mai sighed. "I'll be more careful next time since I'm in your body." She said waving her hand up and down.

"Thank you." Naru replied in a satisfied manner. Pausing her movements, Mai couldn't help but roll her eyes.

"Narcissist." She muttered under her breath. Naru only continued to drink his tea. Mai let out a huff and shook her head. "I guess if something happened to one of us then we'd be stuck in each other's body forever right?" Mai asked after a seconds thought. Naru almost spat his tea out. The mere thought of having to spend the rest of his life as a girl was terrifying. Mai smiled amusedly as she watched him. Naru was choking slightly on some tea that went the wrong way.

"Are you okay now?" Mai inquired once he calmed down. Naru just nodded as he was still coughing slightly. Mai sighed, standing up. Then she went to him and began patting his back.

"Thanks..." He coughed out as his breathing returned to normal. He looked up on reflex when he felt Mai breathing on his neck, realizing she was too close. She cleared her throat and backed away.

"Sorry..." She mumbled. They both blushed. Naru looked away hoping Mai didn't see it. She too had looked away hoping Naru didn't see. And there goes the awkward silence again. Really, the pair of them needed their heads smacking together!
