Day 36: Foofaraw

(Guest Author: JordanPhoenix)

"Thanks again for inviting me over, Edgeworth," Phoenix said, taking a sip of coffee from the china cup his friend's very familiar-looking manservant had just given him. He frowned with concentration at the Scrabble board, which they'd been sitting in front of for the past hour. "I really needed the excuse to take a break from those law books!"

"Well, it's about time you took the bar exam again and got your badge back, Wright." Edgeworth replied, taking a sip of his tea pleasurably. He looked at the former defense attorney with a smirk. "It's still your move, by the way. And sometime today would be nice."

"Hey, it's my first time playing this game that's so favored by you poindexters, er, I mean, intellectuals!" Phoenix amended hastily as his friend raised an eyebrow. "You should be happy that I've finally decided to test my wits against your word-smith self! You've been nagging me about this forever!"

"There's no better way to keep your mind sharp while taking this break from studying," Edgeworth replied, watching as Phoenix finally used his letters to spell out egotist from Edgeworth's prior witless. He flashed the prosecutor an impish grin.

"You know that last word wasn't intended to be directed at you, right Edgeworth?"

"But of course," Edgeworth replied easily, arching a sardonic brow nonetheless. "Impressive, using all your letters like that, Wright, especially since the board is now nearly full. You're now ahead of me, points wise."

"Not bad for a rookie egghead, huh?" Phoenix looked smug.

"However, with this last word..." Edgeworth's lips curved up into a smile as he placed all his letters down. "I've used up all my letters as well. And with those additional points earned…I win."

"What the – hey! I lost?! And you used my last e to make the word imbecile?!" Phoenix was irate. "That was a blatant pot-shot at me, wasn't it?!"

"All in the name of some light-hearted asteism, Wright," the prosecutor smirked.

"Now you're saying words I don't understand, to boot! That's adding insult to injury, Edgeworth!"

"It means jesting. Cease being such a sore loser, Wright." Edgeworth jibed. "This was a game of verbal skills, naught else. It was simply just a rare instance where your little green rock wasn't of any use to you."

He means my magatama, the pretentious little prig! He's enjoying this victory way too much!

Phoenix crossed his arms and scowled. "Well, fine, you may have beat me in a stupid game, Edgeworth, but let's see you manage to do that in court as soon as I get reinstated!"

"It's merely a game Wright. No need for a gigantic foofaraw over the whole matter," Edgeworth said dryly, ringing the little bell beside him for his manservant, who appeared dutifully.

"Foo-fa-what now? What did you just call me?" Phoenix asked indignantly. "You're the one who wears pink, along with that fluttery napkin thingy around his neck, not me!"

"There's no need for your childish emotionalism, Wright. It merely means to cause a great fuss or disturbance about something very insignificant, as you are doing right now." Edgeworth tapped his temple at his infuriated friend. "May I suggest you study a few dictionaries along with those law books?"

"I super-hate you Edgeworth," Phoenix muttered darkly.

A/N(JP): It is becoming consuetude at this point to make these have some element of Wrightworth in them as they're my fave non-couple, couple! And thanks 6Gun for the repeated opportunity to keep paying them homage!:)

A/N(6GS): Hi! The stats are still not working... I have lost all incentive to write... Because I can't tell if people are reading or not... Sorry... But I feel a hiatus coming on...

Challenge: Write an argument between Phoenix and Miles!
