A/N: Hey, welcome back to a new chapter! We're taking a bit of a detour from SheLucario Holmes, because today is a very special day for some of my favorite video game characters. If you don't know what it is, you will soon enough.

I wrote this on very short notice, so it won't be as long, and there might be some awkward writing or a bunch of spelling mistakes. But trust me, it's a very important chapter nevertheless, for a big reason.

In other news, I deleted A Smashin' Time to start it over. The plot was kinda similar to Assassins Creed, and I didn't want that. I barely worked on it, anyways because of this story :P Once I'm done with this story i'll work on the new Smahin' Time.

Without further delay, to the chapter!

Chapter 36: Mario's Game-Day

Date: July 2, 2015, two weeks after the events of SherLucario Holmes

Time: 9:00 A.M

Location: The Mushroom Household

Mario woke up extra early today for a very special reason. Today was the day that he would finally ask Peach out on a legitimate date! It won't be like last time, when Toon Link had to coax her to go with him (see chapter 22 for reference). All they even did on that date was walk around for fifteen minutes.

Getting out of bed, he got dressed in his nicest clothes, blue overalls with a red shirt and hat (obviously), and brushed his teeth. Then, he ran downstairs to get breakfast ready for her.

He had planned this out for a while. Peach always woke up at ten because she would stay awake at night talking to Daisy over video chat. Then, she would walk downstairs for breakfast, and then she would head outside to hang out with friends. Before then, Mario planned to make her favorite breakfast: strawberry pancakes with blueberry sauce and whipped cream, as well as a... Actually, I have no idea what her favorite breakfast would be. So, let's just say it's something very sweet.

Either way, he wouldn't get the chance to make it, because when he went downstairs, he saw Link and Peach eating pancakes and discussing something. They were huddled and their backs were turned to him, but in his mind, he could already see the mocking face that Link would give as he pressed his lips against hers.

He really had nothing against Link. In reality, they're actually the best of friends. But for the past few months, Link and Peach have been hanging out for an uncomfortable amount of time. When he saw them too like this, he couldn't help but feel terribly angry at his friend, whom he knew would never backstab him. After all, Link knew of his crush on Peach for a year before Link even met her.

Mario cleared his throat loudly. "Hey, Link!" He said, trying to see what the paper they were looking at said. "Didn't expect to find you here..."

Link and Peach, upon hearing Mario's voice, immediately gasped and hid the paper in Link's pocket. They turned around as fast as they could, pretending that nothing happened.

"Uh, hey Mario! Just came by to, uh..." Link looked around nervously. "...sniff the flowers."

"Mario!" Peach got up from her chair and smiled. "Good morning! Why are you here so early?"

"I could ask you the same thing." Mario shrugged. "So, you already had-a breakfast, I see." He pointed to the two empty plates that sat on the table.

"Uh, yeah!" Peach said. "I'll go clean that up later, don't worry."

"So, uh... You-a got any plans later?" Mario asked.

Peach nodded. "Yup."

"Oh. What are they?"

"Sorry, I can't tell you! Yet." Peach said, smiling. "You ready to go, Link?"

Link, who had been awkwardly sniffing the plastic flowers on the table, nodded. "Sure."

Mario gasped. "Wait, where are you two going?"

Peach looked at him nervously. "Um... Nowhere. Alright, see you later. Bye!" She waved to him, grabbed Link, and rushed out of the door as quickly as she could.

"H-hey! Wait-a minute!" Mario yelled. He ran after them and opened the front door, but the two were nowhere to be found.

Mario sighed. "I guess I can always try again when she gets back... If it's not too late by then."

Mario passed the time by playing Twilight Princess. He really didn't get far; he made Link jump off a cliff over and over again. He didn't want to feel jealous, but he did. When Mario made Link jump off for the thousandth time, he looked at the clock.

10:45... And she's not even home yet! Mario sighed and turned off the Wii U. I guess I'll just try tomorrow. He went up to his room, dressed into his pajamas, and headed into a sleepless night.

The next morning, Mario woke up at the same time. He went back downstairs and found a note of the table. Two plates also rested there.

Mario,

I headed out early today. I still can't say where I'm going, sorry! I'll probably be back before 11 tonight. -

~Peach

"Again?" Mario groaned. "Argh!" Mario kicked the table in frustration. "Easy, Mario... Easy. Link wouldn't try anything... Would he?"

The next few days went on in a similar fashion. Mario would wake up earlier and earlier, but every time, Peach was gone. Probably with Link. Even Luigi and Rosalina started disappearing every day, leaving him with nobody to take his anger out at. I can't believe this is happening...

On the ninth of July, Mario managed to catch Peach and Link just as they were about to head out. He followed them silently as they walked down the street. He was too far away to hear what they were saying. He followed them for a while, but he couldn't keep his anger in any longer, and he called out to them.

"Link!" Mario called out. "You have some explaining to do!"

Link and Peach turned around and did a double take when they saw Mario.

"Mario?" Link asked.

"What are you doing here?" Peach asked nervously.

Mario stomped forward until he was within arms reach. "How could you do this to me? Both of you?"

Peach looked at him in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"Ignoring me for the whole week, keeping secrets... Eating pancakes together! Link, you know I have a crush on Peach! How could you just go and steal her?"

"A crush... On me?" Peach whispered.

Mario nodded. "Even since I first met you... You took my breath away. And now... I'm going to take his breath away!" He started advancing towards Link.

Lin gasped for a good ten seconds. "Wait just a gosh-darn moment! I think you've gotten the wrong idea!"

"Don't try to trick me!" Mario yelled. He jumped towards Link, sending him a barrage of fireballs.

"Hey! Watch it!" Link screamed. "You're crazy!"

"No! You're crazy!" Mario yelled. A red aura surrounded his body.

"Link! He's getting consumed by his jealousy! It's taking over his body! We have to get to the stadium!" Peach grabbed Link's hand and starting running.

"Why are you running from me?" Mario yelled. His aura grew redder and his eyes turned red. This isn't you, Mario! Stop it!

A different voice answered Mario's self-consciousness. Shut up! Don't you dare try to take her away from me, too!

But I'm you!

No, you're not!

"I am... EVIL-MAAARRRRIIIOOOOOO!" His aura changed from red to black, and his red and blue clothes changed to purple and black, respectively. Mario suddenly felt a painful shock in his head, and fell to the ground in agony.

"Mario!" Peach gasped. She tried to head back to him, but Link stopped her.

"Peach, no! The only way to help is to get there as soon as we can!" Link said. "We gotta go!"

Peach sighed. "Alright."

They started running away. Evil-Mario looked up and saw them running. "NO!" He got up and started running towards them with the speed of Sonic.

"Link!" Peach gasped. "He's catching up! He's gonna get us!"

"No he's not!" Link turned around and threw his boomerang. However, Evil-Mario grabbed a hold of it and rode it as it headed back towards them.

"Duck!" Link and Peach ducked just as Evil-Mario jumped off the boomerang. He overshot and landed in a nearby pile of chili dogs. It was Sonic's cheat day.

"LINK!" Evil-Mario yelled. He got up and started running towards them again.

Link and Peach rounded the corner. "Alright, we're almost there!" Link yelled.

"Where ya goin, Fairy-Boy?" From the top on a building, Evil-Mario jumped and landed on top of Link, pinning him to the ground. "Heheh... Now I've got ya!" With one hand pinning Link's neck to the ground, he started growing a huge black fireball in the other.

"Link!" Peach gasped. She ran towards them, but a ring of black fire formed, cutting her off from the two guys.

"Say goodbye, Link..." Evil-Mario whispered. Link looked into Mario's eyes and saw the real Mario, trying to get out. "Mario! Don't do this! You know I'd never betray you!"

For a split second, Mario's color of clothing changed to normal and his black aura disappeared. "Wha? What's... Happening?"

Just as quick as the colors of his clothes changed back to normal, they turned back into the evil pattern. His aura appeared again as well. "You fool! You can't fight me! Hah!"

He was about to bring his hand and the fireball down when an explosion suddenly sent Evil-Mario flying off of Link, breaking the circle of fire.

"Bombs, son!" Link yelled. He got up and rushed forward with Peach.

"You dare trick me?" Evil-Mario growled. He rushed towards them yet again.

Link and Peach finally made it to the stadium with Evil-Mario hot on their trail. When they tried the door, they couldn't open it.

"Give the signal!"

"The mushroom prowls at night!" Link shouted. Immediately, shuffles could be heard from inside.

"Open up! Please hurry!" Peach cried.

Marth's voice responded from inside the stadium. "All right, all right. Give me a minute."

"We don't have a minute!" Link yelled.

"Link! There he is!" Peach pointed to Evil-Mario, who was getting closer and closer.

"I'll slow him down!" Link sent a barrage of arrows, bombs, and wind at their possessed friend.

"Don't you DARE open that door!" Evil-Mario yelled. He dodged the projectiles with ease and soon caught up to them. "Time's up."

"Marth! Is that door open yet?" Peach asked.

"Almost."

"Hurry up!"

"Jeez. It's almost like you're about to be killed on your side."

"I AM about to be killed!" Link yelled.

Evil-Mario yelled. "Enough with the bickering. Fight me!" He lunged at Link, hands ablaze. Link jumped back, dodging the blows.

"Mario, stop! I don't want to hurt you!" Link gasped.

"It's too late for that!" Evil-Mario growled. He unleashed another barrage at Link, pushing him against the wall.

"Link! Marth, how long are you going to take?" Peach asked.

"Well, I still have fifty keys to try, so it may be a while."

Link groaned as he dodged another barrage of punches.

He thought back to his previous boss battles. In times like these, he would have to turn his thinking around to figure out how to defeat his enemy. If I can't get in through any doors that are already here... Maybe I can make a new door!

"Ah yeah." Link gathered all his courage and smirked at Evil-Mario. "I can't lie anymore. Me and Peach are so in love!"

"What?" Evil-Mario yelled.

"What?" Peach gasped.

"Argh, I'LL GET YOU FOR THIS!" Evil-Mario sprang at him again and released another flurry of punches at him.

Link looked at the real Mario, who was still trapped in the eyes of Evil-Mario. When Mario saw the cracks forming on the wall, he nodded and have Link the thumbs-up.

"Oh yeah!" Link laughed. "Isn't that right, sweetie?" He looked over at Peach and winked.

Peach silently gasped. "Oh, sure! Come here, cutie!" She pulled him into a hug.

"GET AWAY FROM HER!" Evil-Mario punched the wall again, causing even more cracks to form. Mario started cheering from inside the eye.

"Hehe. Is that all you got?" Peach laughed. "Well, what do you think of this?!" She grabbed Link and swung him around into a full-on kiss.

Evil-Mario gasped. Mario gasped. Link "mph"-ed in surprise and almost fainted on the spot.

"Mwah!" She swung him back around. "Now that is a real man!"

"ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!"

When Link finally stopped looking like Phoenix Wright when he has no pupils, he was tacked with full-force by Evil-Mario. He took him straight through the stadium wall, and into the stadium, where all of the smashers and other guests were waiting for him.

"SSSUUUUURRRRPPPRRRRRIIIIIIISSSSEEEEE!" They all yelled. All around the stadium were golden statues of Mario and Donkey Kong. A Ferris wheel and a merry-go-round were set up, as well as a stage for bands to play on. There was a whole buffet of Mushroom Kingdom sweets. The theme from Super Mario 3D world was playing in the background.

The smashers got out from their hiding place. They were very shocked to find Evil-Mario punching Link in the face over and over again.

Marth ran up to the two. "Hey hey hey, guys! Break it up!"

"W-what is this?" Evil-Mario yelled.

"Hehe..." Link chuckled weakly as he got up and dusted himself off. "Happy Game-Day, Mario!"

"Happy... Game-Day?" Evil-Mario asked.

"Yeah! Don't you remember? Today is your 30th anniversary of your video game debut! Me and Link spent hundreds of hours preparing for it!" Peach beamed. "What do you think?"

"Oh... I completely forgot about that." Evil-Mario mumbled. "You mean... When you guys were leaving the house early..."

"Yup! We were really preparing for today! We planned to have you get here later, but you caught us and followed us. Now all that's left to do is to wait for DK to get here! Oh, and Pauline too! She came from a plane to get here today!" Peach said, giggling.

"So... You two weren't destroying me from the inside..." Evil-Mario gasped. "...ha. Ahahah. HAHAHAHAHAHAH. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHHHAHHAHAAABABABBAHABBAHHAHSBDKSIABFKDIWNRKFOSN! AHHHHHHH!" With a deafening scream, Evil-Mario turned back into regular, good old Mario. Mario did a somersault of victory. "Yeah! I'm a-back!"

(From this point on, I recommend listening to Super Mario 3D World's end credits theme or Super Bell Hill. Or not. It's not like it makes much of a difference. It's just an amazing song!)

The smashers started cheering. "I didn't even know he was gone in the first place." One of them said. It was probably Falco.

Freakin Falco.

Link and Peach walked up to him and hugged him. "Glad to have you back!" Link cheered.

"Thanks. And, I'm sorry I tried to-a kill you." Mario said, laughing awkwardly.

"That's ok. Sorry I caused you so much inside pain. I never knew." Link sighed.

Mario shrugged. "I guess I should've been more confident in asking Peach to go on a..." Mario just realized that Peach was there too, and stopped himself short.

Peach smiled, leaned in, and gave him a kiss. "I'd love to go on a date with you! Why don't we get dinner tonight?"

Mario beamed. "O-of course!"

"Sweet! Oh, and sorry for kissing you." Peach looked at Link. "I never imagined that you would almost black out like that!

"Oh, it's nothing." Link said, scratching his head sheepishly. "We had to make the whole thing look real if we wanted to trick Evil-Mario, right? And it's not like it was my first kiss ever or something... Hey, don't tell anyone about that, ok?"

"Definitely." Mario and Peach said simultaneously.

"Cool. Now, if you'll excuse me... I'm going to lie down for a little bit." Link said. He promptly fainted.

"Well, somebody's already fainted!" Marth cheered. "That shows just how good this party will be!"

"Yeah!" The smashers proceeded on with the partying.

"Hey, let's get out there and party!" Peach said. She grabbed Mario's hand and led him towards the Ferris wheel.

"Ok!" Mario cheered. After months of worrying about Peach and Link, Peach agreeing to take him on a date lifted a huge weight off his shoulders, and the rest of the day was spent with more joy than he's had in a long, long time.

A/N: As a wise man once said: the thing I fear the most is the anger of a gentle man.

The day that this chapter was released, July 9, is the anniversary of the day that Donkey Kong was first released, featuring Nintendo's golden boy and the savior of video games himself, Mario! When I say "savior of video games," I really mean it. You see, video games were going downhill and was almost going to die completely, but Mario and Nintendo saved it with Super Mario Bros. The game put video games back in style, and ever since then, video games have been growing exponentially. That's why many people consider Super Mario Bros. to be the best video game of all time. A little video game history right there, for those of you who didn't know.

Donkey Kong made his first appearance too in this game. Or was it a different Kong? I don't exactly know and I'm too lazy to find out. I'm just gonna say it's Donkey Kong for the sake of the story.

I usually forget to write chapters having a sort of "birthday" for them. The only one I've actually done besides this one is Sonic. Heck, I even missed The Legend of Zelda's release date, which was February 21. But I got an email from Nintendo telling us that Mario's 30th anniversary is here, so I decided to go for it.

Anyways, it looks like Zelda's competition is gone now.

Or is it?

Until next chapter!
