Havi had wanted to meet his student and be done with it, but something in him knew that he'd be just as determined to be social in this life as his last. He teleported to the ruins his student said to wait at and decided to spend the time earning experience points. He memorized a certain incantation and its requirements and began to set up the spell.
"Professor?"
The word popped up on his screen, private chat being designed to get people's attention if they had shut off general chat like he had. Havi dragged the PM box to the side of the screen and replied with, "Yes."
His student's character ran into view but stopped at the edge of the summoning circle. "What are you doing?" he asked dumbly.
"A summoning for the experience," the teacher typed.
"But why are you trying something that high level?" the student continued. "That seems insane!"
Havi smirked. "I'm high enough. Check for yourself."
The game had a level-hiding system to make players a bit more cautious. Players had to allow you to view their stats which included their levels and specialties. But if a player observed how expensive the weapons and armor other players were wearing then they could tell fairly easily how high a character really was.
"Dang! I forgot, you're kind of famous on this server, huh?"
"More like infamous."
He finished his summoning in silence. When he was done he stood in the center of the circle and typed the proper incantation into the spell box players were given. The game tried to prevent sorcerers from being too powerful by making them manually type in complicated spells into a special box. Smart players kept multiple windows open with the incantations typed out in a different window to just copy and paste it into the box.
As the summoned creature appeared, called out and then disappeared, Vald typed, "Cool!"
"So what exactly do you want to do now?" Havi asked while spending his gained experience.
"We could duel," Vald typed. "I'm stronger than I look, and you'll have to type out your awesome spells."
Havi grinned and said, "Fine, but let's make it even more fair." Into the spell box he typed the spell: "Flame. Sword against sword. Give me the power of the flame to burn evil."
Vald's character challenged his to a duel and he accepted. A countdown appeared on the screen and right as it reached zero Havi cast his spell.
A flaming sword appeared in his character's hands just in time to block Vald's first strike. Because he had barely trained his character in melee fighting, this was a better fight than it would've been if he had used his staff. He was even losing, before he cast more spells. "Annihilate" was the one he liked best because it sent a blast of fire towards Vald, knocking him back if it hit or forcing him to retreat if it didn't.
Eventually Vald won, and he immediately started cheering about it. "YES! I didn't think I would win! That was awesome!"
Havi healed his character and typed, "I didn't either. You really are better than you look. That blade is only useful against demons and half-demons, so it's super powerful."
"Want to join my friends and go do some missions?" Vald typed. Havi could just see the eagerness on his student's face. He'd probably have the huge, innocent grin on, expecting him to reply in the way he wanted.
"No," Havi dashed his wishes. "You're too low level for there to be any benefit for me in joining you. Your friends have also expressed their acute dislike of me. If you don't mind, I will take my leave and go back to work in the real world."
He could see the student's disappointment in the pause that followed. "Well, okay," he typed slowly.
"And you have that paper to write as well," Havi reminded him teasingly.
"Aw! Want to give me any hints?"
"That would be unfair. It's already an advantage for you to be into all this fantasy-life stuff, since there are countless subjects in fantasy worlds. Just think of that."
Having a social life takes a crap-load of time away from everything else, damn. I haven't written properly in at least a month. I'll keep writing though, because Havi and Vald are my OTP! 3
