Chapter Thirty-Four
Normal POV
In the swampy and almost isolated area of the Louisiana Bayou there is an old cabin, covered in moss, where smoke is constantly coming out from a chimney. In that cabin is where the Witch Doctor lives and does all his 'work'.
The sun was just about to disappear in the horizon when suddenly two humanoid figures appeared in front of the cabin with two other animals accompanying them.
"Master, did you inform the Doctor of our arrival?" The smaller figure said in a feminine voice.
"Yes, I did and I made sure I brought his desired payment." The taller figure said in a more harsh tone than what he intended. These figures are Laila and Ghost Master respectively.
The door of the cabin opened and it reveal an African American man in his early fifties. He was tall, almost as tall as Ghost Master, but he was thinner but you could see some lithe muscles in his body. His short black hair was turning gray on the roots and his eyes have laugh wrinkles on them. He was wearing worn blue jeans with a black wife beater and brown leather sandals. He also had a pencil thin mustache. His eyes were dark brown that depending on the light it could be mistaken as black. This man is the Witch Doctor.
"Ahh… Ghost Master and Shadow Ghost!" The Doctor greeted as he opened his arms in an inviting way as a friend is reuniting with an old friend. "Come in, come in. You have a problem that you wish that I see, hmm…" He stated as he went inside of his cabin and the two of the Hecate People went after him with their Familiars flying behind them.
They followed him where it's suggested to be a living room, a strange living room. On one of the three shelves it was full of old leather books and in the rest there were various jars and boxes filled with odd things. One was a jar that held preserved chicken legs and another lizard tails. Some had spices, some of the common others... not so much. There were also old wooden trunks and only the Doctor would know what is inside of them.
The Doctor waved a hand so the two Hecate People could sit in the only available sofa while the Doctor sat across them in high armchair that was made of alligator skin. The Familiars perched behind their respective master. This was located in front of the ever blazing chimney.
"I can see that your young apprentice is blind and what you have told me... you think that it was because of a demon. A Parasite Demon to be precise." The Witch Doctor said as he saw the gray milky pupils on the young girl.
The Doctor then went closer to the girl and put his hand under her chin and made her face him so that he could see her eyes closer. "Shadow, can you see in blurs of colors?" He asked as he narrowed his eyes in concentration.
"No. Just black." The girl replied honestly and she was feeling a little uncomfortable in the position she was in as she can feel his hot breathe on her face.
Just as Ghost Master was going to tell the Doctor to give back his apprentice space the Doctor went towards one of his many trunks and started searching in them. "Can you tell me the attack in detail, Ghost Master? Don't leave details. Even the smallest of detail can help."
That so Ghost Master explains what had happened, of course not revealing any of the superheroes' identity. In the meanwhile, the Doctor flipped through an old leather bound book with yellowing pages and respond accordingly to confirm that he was listening.
When Ghost Master finished, it was silent. The Doctor had a thinking face on, his eyes narrowed at a page. "You said that the Parasite Demon scratched at her soul twice. Where did it hit you, Shadow?"
"The first time, where my heart is located and the second, in my eyes." She responded.
"Well, usually Parasite Demons can't hurt a person physically; it can only cause real damage to souls, as you both well know." The Doctor stated and the four beings nodded. "However, you said that not only did the demon manage to hit you twice, but in different places. Obviously when the demon scratched your eyes in your soul-spirit form that is what is the cause of your blindness. However, it also hit your heart. Do you not feel any pain in that area of your body?"
"No." She replied.
"Alright, you already confirmed about the cause of blindness. Can you tell if she will have her vision back?" Ghost Master asked a bit impatient.
"I will need some things, before I can make any real statements." The Doctor said as he went to the shelves and pulls out jars and bowls and put them in the small coffee table that was in front of the sofa.
Later, when he finished collecting, the Doctor was mixing some of the ingredients together, making two different mixtures for the two bowls. The last ingredient that the Doctor held was some green spice which he put into the bowls at the same time. There was odorless gray smoke coming out of the bowls and the Doctor held one in each hand and carefully waved it in front of the blind girl. Seconds later, the bowl on his right hand glows a faint green.
"Ah-ha-ha… Shadow's blindness can be cured." The Doctor replied with a smirk. "In that case… you have the payment?" He then put the bowls back to the table.
Master then put his hand inside of his trench coat and pulled out a small bag that held several quartz that the Doctor's previously ordered from him. The Doctor snatched the bag greedily and opened it and was searching through it.
The smirk that was on the Doctor's lips vanished. "Where is the quartz that I specifically asked you to bring?" He snarled at Master. "I told you that I wanted quartz that held your aggressive essence!"
"Don't worry, I have it. It's in my inside pocket of my trench coat." Master replied coolly.
"Then what are you waiting for?! Give it to me!" The Doctor yelled as his eyes were full of greed.
"I will give it to you once you have cured Shadow." Ghost Master replied as he narrowed his eyes.
"Shadow's blindness will take a few days… maybe weeks to recover!" The Doctor said.
"I am a man of my word, so you don't have to worry about me not paying for your service. However, I am curious about why you ask for such a thing?" Master asked as he stood in front of the Doctor.
"Well, you know I have some… clients that wish other people revenge on and let's just said with those quartz I asked for will provide me with that power. You should know that you can be the one of the most aggressive man in the world. With my magic, I can transfer your aggressiveness to other people and cause them trouble, if you get what I mean." The Witch Doctor replied smoothly as he went to put his arm around Ghost Master's shoulder in what can be described as friendly man hug. "I am planning to name this… treatment the 'Ghost Vengeance'. It sounds appealing, doesn't it?" The Doctor said sadistically.
"I'll give one quartz if you start the treatment now and once she is healed I pay up the rest, sounds fair?" Ghost Master replied as he took his arm out.
The Doctor narrowed his eyes, but then smirked. "Very well, you are a man of your word." He said as he shook Ghost Master's hand as the deal was closed. "Pay close attention to what I have to say." The Doctor said as he once again went to the shelves and brought some things to the table.
He opens one jar and in them had white bandages. He got a different jar and in them had cotton balls. He got an empty bowl and he started mixing some liquids and spices together. He stirred them together with a wooden stick. "This solution right here is basically your medicine Shadow. Wait, you can't see, so never mind." The Doctor chuckled at his own forgetfulness. "Whatever, anyways, I need this to boil so… if you don't mind…" The Doctor asked as he looked at Ghost Master.
The Leaguer got the bowl under his hand and fire was coming out of his palm, seconds later the solution was boiling. The Doctor once again stirred until he informed Ghost Master that it was enough. "I am now putting the cotton balls inside the bowl so that it can absorb it and wait until it cools down."
Once the liquid inside seem cool enough, the Doctor got the bowl and went towards Laila. "Close your eyes and don't open them at all. It's very important that you don't." The girl nodded and the Doctor got a cotton ball, squeezed the excess liquid and was brushing the cotton on the young girl's eye lids. "Now, it is very important that the eyes don't open at all, if it does then the progress will have to start all over and most likely your eyes, Shadow, will feel like if they burn."
The Doctor then ordered Laila to put the cotton balls over her eyes and to not let go. He then got the bandages and started to wrap them around her head, making sure that it was covering her eyes and that the cotton balls would stay in her eyes. "This must be done twice a day, in the morning and at night." The Doctor said as he was finished his work. "I know you manage that." He said as looked at Ghost Master.
"How long will it be until Shadow's vision is returned?" Ghost Master asked.
"To tell the truth, it all depends. At least five days to two weeks is my estimation."
"If I am unable to open my eyes, then how will I be able to know I am able to see?" Laila asked as she cocked her head to the side.
"You will know instinctively. That and also your eyes will feel like if they were either pulled out or squished or both." The Doctor said casually.
Ghost Master then narrowed his eyes at the Doctor. "Is there anything that will make the progress to be less painful?"
"Nope."
"Will I be able to go out during daytime?" Laila asked.
"I suppose you can... just as long you have those bandages on and don't open your eyes. Maybe some shades over them will be helpful." The Doctor replied as he was rubbing his chin. "Is that all you need?" he added as he looked at Ghost Master with a smirk.
"Yes, thank you for your services." Ghost Master replied as he threw one of the special quartz at the Doctor, which he catch a bit awkwardly."Now I need the liquid." The Doctor nodded as he pull out an empty jar and filled it with the liquid and gave it to the Leaguer.
Ghost Master held it in his hand securely and then walked towards the exit with Laila following behind, her Familiar guiding her through their mind link.
"No tips?!" The Doctor asked from his cabin door as the Hecate People with their Familiars were already outside.
Ghost Master turned towards him and the hand was was not holding the jar was on fire.
"I-I can live without it." The Witch Doctor answered nervously. Ghost Master made the fire disappear and whispered something to his apprentice.
The four of them disappeared into the Shadows in silence.
