The rest of the summer went by pretty quickly for Ruby. Soon she was on her way back to Signal with Yang, eager to take on the school year.
Ruby and Yang were looking forward to another year of fun times. They managed to get a 4 person suite style room with Blake and Weiss for the year. Ruby was rooming with Weiss, and Yang was with Blake again. Having gone through the check in process earlier, the two of them opened up their new home for the school year. "Man this place looks nice," Yang said when she walked into the room that was shared between the two individual dorms.
"You ain't kidding. A microwave, a fridge, an oven and stove, this place is incredible!" Ruby was excited to be back at school. She didn't get to see Weiss much during the summer and it was something she was impatient about. "Man, Blake and Weiss need to get here sooner."
"Calm down, Rubes, and give me a hand with this thing. It's not going to move itself ya know," Yang said to her sister. Ruby helped her grab the box of stuff that Yang was currently moving into her room. With a hand now free, Yang opened the door to her room and the sisters brought the box in. "Thanks, Ruby."
"Yeah no problem. I'm gonna start grabbing some of my stuff from the car ok?" Ruby started to walk out the door, calling back to Yang so that she knew what was going on.
"Alright," Ruby heard Yang say back to her.
Ruby walked down to her car, her body teeming with joy at being back at school. She opened up her car and grabbed one of her backpacks, as well as a box from her car. Once she turned around though, Ruby looked over to see Weiss pulling up to the building. Ruby came right up to the car as Weiss started to climb out of it. "Heya Weiss. You have no idea how good it is to see you again."
Ruby couldn't do much aside from stand there, Weiss could see that clearly. "I could say the same to you Ruby. Drop that box off at our room and I'll give you a hug up there ok?"
"Sounds good to me. I'll see you in a few minutes," Ruby trotted into the building and grabbed the elevator up to the 6th floor where there room was. Once she got up and into the room she placed her stuff inside of the room she shared with Weiss. "Hey, Yang, Weiss is down in the parking lot."
"Well, looks like I'm getting my noise canceling headphones tonight," Yang said.
"You know I heard that," Ruby called to Yang.
"I know, you were supposed to."
"What makes you think we would even do that right now?" Ruby asked, peeking her head around the wall so she could look into Yang's room.
Yang put down the box that she was grabbing stuff from and turned to Ruby. "When Weiss was over during the summer, the first day you two were together, that's all you two did for about 7 hours. I haven't heard of people going at it like that for so long," Yang said, trying hard to not recall that day. "And we all had to hear it because you two wouldn't keep quiet while you were sexing it up."
Ruby's face turned redder than it ever had before. Yang didn't give her a chance to reply, instead going back to unpacking her belongings. Eventually Weiss showed up at the room and saw Ruby standing there with a red face. "Hey Ruby. I don't want to know why Yang caused you to go red in the face, but you still got stuff to bring in from your car," Weiss said as she walked over to Ruby after dropping the box she was carrying. Once she was next to Ruby, Weiss pulled her into a hug and gave her a kiss. "Now hurry up and get your stuff together."
They eventually got the rest of their belongings into the rooms. Blake showed up while they were still working and once Yang was done with her stuff, she helped Blake get her things into the room as well. "So, Blake, how's Sun doing?"
"He's doing well. His new roommate is a friend of his from back home. They're apparently best friends and he's really excited about him coming to school with us," Blake said back to her.
"Oh really, is the guy a freshman?"
"No he's actually transferring in from Haven University."
"Wow that's pretty neat. You should have Sun and his roommate stop by to say hello then," Yang said as she helped bring the last of Blake's things up to their room. "Who knows, he might end up joining up with us."
"I figured that would probably happen anyway. I'll send Sun a text to let him know if he wants to stop by later today," Blake said back to her.
"Awesome, I can't wait to see it," Yang said. She walked over to Ruby and Weiss' room and knocked on the door. "Hey, lovebirds, don't get too feisty right now, we're still here after all."
"Do you always try to embarrass your sister without a second thought?" Blake asked while she was shaking her head.
"Eh, I gotta take my opportunities every once in a while. I actually hold back quite often though, since I'm such an amazing sister," Yang said as she heard Ruby open the door to their room.
"Yang, you do realize that nothing was going on. Me and Weiss just got done arranging the room and were laying down and resting," Ruby said to her.
Weiss came over when she heard Ruby speaking to Yang. "I just remembered though, I need to stop by the bookstore and pick up a few textbooks for classes. So let's go do that and then maybe we can get something to eat afterwards," Weiss suggested.
"Well what about our usual thing? You gotta save room in your stomach for Chinese food," Ruby said back to Weiss.
"A light snack won't kill our appetites, especially since that wouldn't be for a few hours from now anyway. Just come on this shouldn't take too long." Weiss pulled at Ruby's arm and dragged her out of the room.
Ruby went with Weiss over to the store chatting about how the rest of their summers went. Eventually they arrived at the bookstore, and Ruby felt like she didn't need to stand around with Weiss in there. "Hey Weiss, I'm just gonna wait out here ok?" Ruby said to her.
"Ok, that sounds good to me. This shouldn't take to long anyway, so I'll be back in a bit," Weiss said as she walked into the store.
Ruby decided to lean against the wall outside the door. It was nice being back at school and Ruby was enjoying every second of being with Weiss again. As she was taking in the moment, Ruby didn't notice that someone was coming up to her. "Ruby? Is that you?"
Ruby turned towards the voice that called her name, and she was surprised to see who it was. "Oh uh, hey there, Penny," Ruby said, though she felt uncomfortable with her presence. "I didn't realize that you were going to this school too."
"Yeah, I figured it would be a great place since you go here. God, how long has it been since we last talked to each other?" Penny, the girl who approached Ruby asked.
"Not long enough." Ruby mumbled to herself.
Penny got right up next to her and wrapped her arm around Ruby. "Man you and I got up to some crazy adventures together didn't we." Penny couldn't tell that Ruby was feeling uncomfortable at the moment though. "Still, maybe now that we're back together again, maybe we could pick up where we left off, if you know what I mean."
"Wait what?" Ruby said, brushing the arm off of her.
"You know, get back together again. The two of us were cute together, and you did say that you couldn't handle the distance between us in our relationship. So why don't we start that back up again?" Penny asked.
Ruby was afraid of this happening. Thinking back on what Penny was talking about, she remembered that the two of them secretly went out with each other for a couple of months back during the end of her senior year of high school. It lasted all the way through the first few weeks of summer before Ruby couldn't deal with it anymore and broke it off. Aside from Ruby and Penny, the only person who knew about the two of them ever being together was Yang.
As much as Ruby loved Weiss, she couldn't tell her about what had happened between Ruby and Penny. There were too many moments full of alcohol, cigarettes and sex, plus a few other things that Ruby was keen on not remembering. She wasn't truly ready to tell Weiss about that part of her life, and she didn't even want to remember that part either. As much as she didn't want to be near Penny, Ruby knew that she couldn't break the girls heart, even if she had wanted to.
Which is why she was beyond relieved when Weiss showed up again. "Um, excuse me I hope I'm not interrupting anything," Weiss said, trying to be as polite as possible. On the inside though, she wanted to throttle the girl who was getting really close to her girlfriend. Weiss was subconsciously growing territorial when she saw Penny talking to Ruby and move close to her.
"Oh not at all Weiss. I was just about to say, we need to get going now if we're going to make that appointment with your adviser," Ruby said.
Weiss could tell that Ruby was lying, but from the look on Ruby's face, she could also tell that Ruby wanted her to play along with it for the time being. "Oh shoot, you're right. We should get going then," Weiss said. She didn't care about why Ruby wanted her to lie. To Weiss, it was an opportunity to keep this stranger away from her girlfriend. For that, Weiss smiled at the idea and ran with it like Ruby wanted her to.
"Oh, well, maybe we'll see each other around then," Penny said as Ruby started to walk away.
"Uh, y-yeah sure I guess," Ruby tried to sound normal, but she knew that it wasn't going to end up that way and so she just walked on with Weiss.
After Ruby and Weiss were far enough away, Weiss stopped Ruby and wanted answers. "Ruby can you explain to me why that random girl who seemed to know you decided to snuggle up with you, and why I had to help you make up an excuse to leave?"
Ruby sighed, she didn't know what to say to Weiss. "Look, she is someone that I knew from back home. I don't know why she decided to 'snuggle up' with me and the reason I wanted you to help me make up an excuse is because I felt uncomfortable at the moment but didn't want to upset the poor girl."
"Ruby is there anything else that you want to tell me about this?" Weiss asked.
Ruby shook her head. She didn't want to tell Weiss anything else about the relationship between her and Penny, at least not yet. For now though, she was content with just letting things go they way they were. "Nothing else to say."
Weiss wasn't entirely sure that she believed what Ruby was saying, her gut telling her that she was hiding something. However, Weiss knew Ruby enough to realize that she was hiding it for a reason and she had to believe that the reason was good enough that it warranted her not bringing it up. "Ok. I'm sure that you would tell me about anything else when you feel up to it. For now though, I'll forget about it. Does that sound good?"
"Yep, sounds good to me," Ruby said to Weiss. 'Hopefully I don't have to deal with this anymore.'
AN: So sorry for making you guys wait so long for an update from this, but trust me when I say this, I needed the time to work on this thing. I have, a really long project in the works and you'll be seeing plenty of updates for this story during this month. This is the first part in a TEN CHAPTER STORY ARC, one that I have completely written out and ready to publish.
I preface by saying, this will kick people right in the feels, and to be quite honest I might get some flak over it, but by the time this is done, everything will be alright.
So anyway, thanks for reading this chapter and I can't wait to continue with what comes.
