Memories

Bella was able to get her hands around Jacob's throat, pinning him into a tree.

"Bella!" I screamed.

Before my brothers and I could get to Bella, Seth had managed to get himself in between the chaos. Jacob was turning purple, quickly losing consciousness. Leah pounded the floor with her first paws, snarling and growling at Bella.

Seth! Get the hell out of there! Leah growled.

Seth began pushing Bella back with all his strength as we pulled her off of Jacob.

"She's too strong!" Jasper hissed. "There's nothing I can do to bring her back!"

"Just pull, damn it!" I roared back.

Suddenly we heard a loud crack followed by a whimper. The sudden sound of agonizing pain was enough for Bella to be peeled off of Jacob. Jacob dropped to his knees, coughing while trying to suck in as much air as his body would allow him too.

"Oh my god!" Bella whispered in horror.

Seth! Seth! Oh my god! What has she done to you! Leah grumbled.

"Carlisle!" I shouted.

"I'm here," he said. "Let me have a look. Please Leah, step aside so I can see his injuries."

Leah stood, protectively, over Seth and sneered at Carlisle.

"Leah," Jacob hoarsely said. "Let him."

Seth phased back to human form, slumped over, and holding his shoulder.

"He has broken his shoulder," Carlisle said, as he examined Seth. "And his collarbone but it should heal within a couple of hours. Emmett and Jasper please take him into the house and fix him up."

"Seth, I'm so sorry." I said.

"No, Edward," Bella said. "I'm sorry. I…I didn't mean to lose control and have all this happen."

"Don't worry Bella," Seth winced. "I've had worse. It was an accident."

Leah growled behind him. You idiot!

Once my brothers, Carlisle and Seth were inside, Leah had moved towards the riverside to watch her brother more closely. I turned my attention to a shell shocked Bella.

"Are you okay?" I asked Bella.

"I…I don't know what happen." She whispered. "I just saw red and nothing else."

"I was so stupid," I said with a heavy sigh. "I should have been by your side before anything happened but I was so amazed by how wonderful you are…or should I say were doing."

"No, Edward," She said, taking my face into her hands. "I should have had more control."

"You are so amazing," I said, taken back. "Let's go see how Seth is doing."

"I think we should keep the baby away from Bella until she's further along." Jacob insisted once we entered the house.

"No." Edward protested.

"I'm fine that it was me but the next time-"

"There won't be a next time. This is her daughter. Our daughter. And-"

"And next she will go for the baby. Is anyone here willing to take that risk?" Jacob growled. We don't need another problem with Bella going AWOL. Jacob hissed.

The whole family seemed to be agreeing with Jacob. Bella didn't seem to protest against the family and-for now- I was willing to let it go. Jacob insisted on taking the baby outside with Rosalie. A hint of a small smile was dancing on my lips. I really wished that I could have had an excuse to hand Jacob his ass. A part of it was more than satisfying that Bella was able to pull the big bad wolf in his place. The moment we entered the house, the phone began ringing, then stop, then rang again.

It's Charlie. Esme said. He's been calling all morning about Bella.

"Just let it go," I said.

"Who is it? Is it Sam?" Bella asked, alarmed.

"No," I said. "It's Charlie. Everything with Sam and the pack has ended."

"How?" Bella asked, again.

"It's our law Bella." Seth whispered from the couch.

"Law?" Bella said, with a puzzling look on her face.

"Yes." I said. "Jacob is the true Alpha male. There was nothing the pack or tribe could do about your transformation. Jacob allowed us to save you and when he went to Sam to discuss everything that happened he showed Sam that he imprinted on Renesmee.

"So she is safe?" Bella asked.

"Oh yea, Bells," Seth said. "No one and I mean no one is allowed to harm another wolf's imprinting for any reason. Even if it was accidentally. Law is Law, in our tribe"

"Has that ever happen to anyone?" Bella asked.

"Well...," Seth hesitated for a moment. "It happened one time. A really long time ago though. I don't know the story too well, but I heard that the brothers fought to the death. It wasn't done on purpose, accident but something like that. To us it is totally unforgiveable."

"But how did Sam know, if he can't hear Jacob's thoughts?"

"They can hear each other because Sam is Alpha in his pack and Jake is our true Alpha." Seth said. "Jake and Sam found out that in wolf form, they can hear each other. It's like speaking out loud. Sam can only hear what Jake wants him to know and it's the other way around for Sam too."

"And what about the treaty?" Bella asked.

"Bella," I said, looking down at her. "Everything is fine now. We are safe from anything coming after us or Renesmee."

"I know, I know but I just want to know what I missed."

"Well, once Jacob went to Sam-which Leah and I thought was crazy- Sam came back here to discuss the new terms of the treaty. Can you believe it in human form too?" Seth said with a smile.

"Before you can ask, I refuse to leave your side for anything," I pointed out. "The treaty was discussed with Carlisle, Sam, and Jacob."

Bella looked over at Carlisle who just smiled back at her.

"Okay, Seth this is going to hurt. I have re-break the bone and then we can start setting it." Carlisle said.

Carlisle grabbed a hold of Seth shoulder, pulling hard and then popping the bone back into place.

"Ah!" Seth winced again.

"I'm so sorry Seth. I should have been closer." I apologetic said, again.

"Seth, I-"

"Don't worry about it, Bella, I'm totally fine," Seth said.

"Bella, love, no one is judging you. You're doing so well." I said with a smile.

She's doing better now than most of us would have guessed. Carlisle said.

Seth winced once Carlisle secured another piece of the brace to Seth's arms.

"Sorry, sorry!" Bella mumbled.

I knew that Bell didn't do anything wrong, it was in her nature to be aggressive. I caressed her arm, trying to easy her pain.

"Don't freak, Bella," Seth said as he patted her knee. "I'll be back to normal in half an hour. Anyone would have done the same, what with Jake and Ness-" He stopped himself. Oops ,that's right she hates that name. "I mean at least you didn't bite me or anything. That would've sucked." He said with twisted look on his face.

"I'm a bad person," Bella said with her face buried into her hands.

"Of course you aren't. I should have-" I said but was quickly cut off.

"Stop that," Bella groaned.

Edward, I think we should take things more slowly. Jasper said.

"Lucky thing Ness-Renesmee's not venomous," Seth said. "Cause she bites Jake all the time." He smiled.

Bella dropped her hands. "She does?"

"Sure. Whenever he and Rose don't get dinner in her mouth fast enough. Rose thinks it's pretty hilarious."

"Well, Seth," Carlisle said, as he got up from the couch. "I think that's as much as I can do. Try to not move for, oh, a few hours, I guess." Carlisle chuckled. "I wish treating humans were this instantaneously gratifying. Stay still," He ordered.

There is so much to review before re-checking the baby, again. Carlisle said, as he entered his office.

"I can probably manage sitting still for a while," Seth yawned. Leaning his head back against the sofa, he closed his eyes and off to sleep.

Bella stood and walked towards the back window. After so long of not being able to touch Bella, I took her hand into my hand

"No, she doesn't like it like that," Rosalie hissed.

"She had no problem eating it like this, this morning." Jacob argued.

"Well now that you pointed it out, it's my turn to feed her," Rosalie growled in Jacob.

"Who cares whose turn it is? We gotta do this quickly before she bites me again." Jacob said.

"I'm okay with that." Rosalie laughed.

"What's the matter, Bella?" Jasper asked. "No one is angry with you-"

Speak for yourself bloodsucker! Leah snarled.

"Or even surprised, really. Well. I suppose we are surprised. Surprised that you were able to snap out of it so quickly. You did well. Better than anyone expects of you." Better than even I expected.

"I was thinking about Charlie, actually."

"Ah," Jasper murmured.

"We really have to leave, don't we?" Bella asked. "For a while, at the very least. Pretend we're in Atlanta or something."

I stared at Bella and it pained me that after all Bella had been though in the past couple year, that now she had to move away from everything she came to love. She would never again be able to see Charlie whenever her heart desired or her mother. And the reason being it was my fault.

"Yes. It's the only way to protect your father."

"I'm going to miss him so much. I'll miss everyone." Bella whispered.

Bella stared into the distance. She was thinking about something. What I would have given to be able to hear what she was thinking this very moment. Suddenly Bella snorted and I raised an eyebrow at her-once more-puzzled. She shook her head me, without further explanation.

"It's time." Carlisle said, as he collected his equipment for the baby.

Rosalie and Jacob walked through the door with Renesmee looking a little drowsy. As Carlisle entered the dining area, setting up, Jasper came to stand behind Bella. Leah-as well- sat and waited to see how much more the baby had grown since the last measurement. But the moment Renesmee saw Carlisle she was fully awake and ready for him

"Must be six." I said.

"So?" Bella said, locking eyes with Renesmee.

"Time to measure Ness-er, Renesmee," Carlisle explained.

"Oh. You do this every day?"

"Four times a day," Carlisle corrected Bella, motioning to Rose and Jacob towards the couch. Renesmee sighed.

"Four times? Every day? Why?"

"She's still growing quickly," I murmured to her. With a squeezed of her hand, I wrapped my arms around her, and secured her into my body.

Carlisle took the measuring tape in his hand, standing in front of Rose and Renesmee. Renesmee stretched out within Rose's arms, as straight as she could hold herself. Carlisle ran the tape down her length, from the top of her head to her little toes. Once he was done measuring her body, be measured her head.

Hmm, that is interesting. Carlisle said.

We shouldn't be doing this in front of her Edward. Jacob said, arms crossed tightly over his chest. She's too dangerous.

"What do we do?" Bella whispered, horrified.

"I don't know," I said into her ear, as I tighten my arms around her.

"It's slowing," Jacob pointed out.

"We'll need several more days of measurements to track the trend, Jacob. I can't make any promises." Carlisle countered.

"Yesterday she grew two inches. Today it's less."

"By a thirty-second of an inch, if my measurements are prefect." Carlisle said.

What do you mean 'if my measurements are perfect'? "Be perfect, Doc." Jacob abruptly said.

Ugh! Nothing has changed! Ignorant mutt! Rosalie said, tensed.

"You know I'll do my best," Carlisle assured him.

"Guess that's all I can ask," Jacob sighed.

She's getting mad, Edward. We need to hurry this along. Jasper said.

It was as if Renesmee heard Jasper because she began squirming in Rosalie's arms. She reached to Rosalie face. Rosalie leaned in, making contact with Renesmee's hand and then sighed.

"What does she want?" Jacob demanded.

"Bella, of course." Rosalie said in his direction. "How are you?" Rosalie asked Bella.

"Worried," Bella answered and I squeezed her further into me.

"We all are. But that's not what I meant."

"I'm in control," Bella swore.

Something is going to go wrong, Edward. Jacob said.

I give him a savage stare, asking him to give me a reason to toss him out on his ass. He bit his lip, preventing him to say anything further. Rosalie walked over to Bella, and placed Renesmee Bella's arms. Jasper moved more closely towards Bella and I kept my arms wrapped around her.

Renesmee gazed into Bella's eyes with a lighting smile on her face. Without hesitation, she reached for Bella's face. Bella gasped as Renesmee showed her the conflict between her and Jacob. She showed Bella charging Jacob across the front lawn, remembering Seth leaping in between them. In her thoughts, Jacob stood defenselessly with his hands raised in front of him, pleading with Bella. I couldn't help but chuckle at that thought.

As I heard for the second time, Seth's bones cracking, I winced along with Bella. As if to ease the pain, Renesmee smiled at us as her memory came back to Jacob. Then back to Seth, safeguarding Jacob from Bella. Her thought drifted to herself than to Jacob, from Jacob back to her. Showing Bella that Jacob belonged to her.

"Oh, wonderful," Bella groaned. "Perfect."

"It's just because he tastes better than the rest of us," I assured her, nearly annoyed with me for saying something to begin with.

"I told you she likes me, too," Jacob taunted from the across the room. His eyebrows were still knotted but never taking his eyes off Renesmee.

Renesmee smiled failed as she was annoyed that Bella was no longer giving her the attention. She began patting her face, trying to get back Bella's attention. As Bella turned her gaze back to Renesmee, another memory popped into Bella's mind. In this memory Rosalie was pulling a brush gently through each of her curls. Next, she showed Carlisle measuring her throughout the day, trying to keep as still she could.

"It looks like she's going to give you a rundown of everything you missed," I said with a smile.

Renesmee next memory had Bella's nose wrinkled as she could smell the human blood in her Sippy cup. I grabbed Renesmee out of Bella's arms as Jasper pinned them behind her back. Bella never put up a struggle.

"What did I do?"

She was thirsty. I felt it. Jasper growled.

"But she was remembering being thirsty," I muttered. "She was remembering the taste of human blood."

"Yes," Bella agreed. "And?"

I grimaced at Bella for a moment before relaxing. "And nothing at all, it seems," I laughed. "The overreaction is mine this time. Jazz, let her go."

Jasper loosened his hold on Bella. Without hesitation, I handed Renesmee over to Bella, once her hands were free.

"I can't understand," Jasper said. "I can't bear this." It doesn't make any senses. She shouldn't be able to do this so easily when I can't even do it now!

Jasper marched out the back down, towards the river. The moment Leah saw Jasper walking towards her; she moved a half mile from him. Without looking back, Jasper sprang himself over the river and into the woods to find Alice.

Renesmee stared, dumbfound as Jasper left. She placed her little hand back on Bella's face, repeating Jasper's disappearance.

"He'll be back," I reassured the both of them. "He just needs a moment alone to readjust his perspective on life." I fought a smile.

"Is he mad at me?" Bella whispered.

"No," I said, shocked. "Why would he be?"

"What's the matter with him, then?"

"He's upset with himself, not you, Bella. He's worrying about…" I hesitated before proceeding, "self-fulfilling prophecy. I suppose you could say."

"How so?" Carlisle asked.

"He's wondering if the newborn madness is really as difficult as we've always thought, or if, with the right focus and attitude, anyone could do well as Bella. Even now—perhaps, he only has such difficulty because he believes it's natural and unavoidable. Maybe if he expected more of himself, he would rise to those expectations. You're making him questions a lot of deep-rooted assumptions, Bella."

"But that unfair," Carlisle said. "Everyone is different; everyone has their own challenges. Perhaps what Bella is doing goes beyond the natural. Maybe this is her gift, so to speak." She could have the power to will anything to her preference. It's a very rare talent.

"That's an interesting theory, and quite plausible." I said.

With that kind of control she could be able to see her father and mother. But then again, the color of her eyes we must take into account. Small things like her voice and skin can be easily overlooked. Charlie may take it into account but overlook it anyway.. Carlisle said.

"Have you ever seen an equivalent to self-control as a talent?" I asked Carlisle. "Do you really think that's a gift, or just a product of all preparation?"

Carlisle shrugged. "It's slightly similar to what Siobhan has always been able to do, though she wouldn't call it a gift."

"Siobhan, your friend in that Irish coven?" Rosalie asked. "I wasn't aware that she did anything special. I thought it was Maggie who was talented in that bunch."

"Yes, Siobhan thinks the same. But she has this way of deciding her goals and then almost…willing them into reality. She considers it good planning, but I've always wondered if it was something more. When she included Maggie, for instance. Liam was very territorial, but Siobhan wanted it to work out, and so it did."

She seems to settling in. Rosalie said, taking a seat.

I gave a tight a nod. I drifted slowly away from the conversation Rosalie and Carlisle were having, as I tuned into Bella and Renesmee. There came memory after memory of the past couple of days. I smiled when Renesmee recalled Carlisle trying to give her baby formula and the silly knotted face she made when she smelled it.

Did she show her the baby formula memory yet? Carlisle asked.

I gave another tight nod. Carlisle gave a slight smile and continued to talk with Rosalie.

Renesmee played for Bella not once but twice the song I sang to her. As Renesmee's thought began to get fuzzy, I knew that she waited all day to tell Bella, but now she grew sleepy again. One yawned from her and she was asleep like Jacob and Seth.

"But you know we have never tested that theory either," Carlisle concluded.

Rosalie and I both nod.

Edward! Alice sang. We're back!

"Finally," I said and turned towards the window.

One. Two. Three Alice said. She swung back and forth on a branch before doing a flat spin over the river.

Esme followed with a simple leapt, as Emmett wanted to have a little fun and splash water everywhere.

I never get tired of doing that! He said, shaking off the excess water.

Jasper was the last to follow the trio. Let's get this over with.

Alice bounced into the room, with the biggest grin stretching from ear to ear. Everyone else began smiling at Bella. Alice outstretched her hand towards Bella, and displayed a brass key-to our new cottage-with a pink stain bow tied to the top.

Alice held it out for Bella to take. Shifting Renesmee into her right arm, Alice dropped the key into her hand.

"Happy Birthday!" Alice squealed.

"No one starts counting on the actual day of birth," Bella said, rolling her eyes. "Your first birthday is at the year mark, Alice."

"We're not celebrating your vampire birthday. Yet," Alice said so smug. "It's September thirteenth, Bella, Happy nineteenth birthday!"

Hope u enjoyed! Once again, much love! 3
