Chapter 35
Jules's House
"Good morning."
"Hey Kathy, how are you doing?"
"I'm good. You got home late last night."
"I know, we had a seminar."
"Oh ok. Is everything all right? You seem off today."
"No I'm ok."
"Is it Sam?"
"Yeah, I saw him yesterday." Jules lied. She's being worrying about the threat.
"Oh where?" Kathy said excited and sat down on the counter while Jules passed a mug full of coffee.
"At a seminar. He's back on Special Forces and his team was there."
"Did you guys talk?" Kathy asked and noticed how Jules began to blush.
"Um… yeah." She said as she turned around. Kathy just stared at her.
"Whoa, at a seminar. I swear you two are worse than two horny teenagers."
"Katherine Callaghan."
"Sorry, I'm just saying." Kathy said smirking.
"Anyway, I didn't talk to him. One of his teammates touched him, made it seem like they were together." Jules said and remember how pissed she still is that the woman put her hand on her husband. And worse that he let her.
"Charlie?"
"No, not her. I don't even think about her like that anymore. I could see it in her eyes that she cares about Sam, but she doesn't want to sleep with him."
"That's great. At least that's one less worry."
"Yes it is. Anyway you remember my friend Steve? He was there too, and he just called. He's going to stop by later and we are all having dinner together."
"That's nice. It's been a while seen we have seen him. We should go out! That way we also can keep the kids entertained and you guys have time to catch up."
"That's a great idea. You're the best Kathy. Why is the house so quiet?" Jules asked wondering where her three hyper kids were.
"Yeah right, it never this quiet." Kathy said as they both got up and went looking for the kids.
Military Base
"Where are Charlie and Sam?" Alex asked.
"They had to do something for General Braddock; I don't know when they will be back." Michael said and they could hear the worry in his voice.
"They will be all right." Melissa said.
"I know." Michael said. Andrea came over to give her support and grabbed his arm in consolation.
"There you go again touching a married man." Melissa snapped.
"Whoa, you still mad about that? I'm just trying to help."
"Like you tried to help yesterday."
"Look I'm sorry, I shouldn't have. But I hate that he's always so sad because of her. If she really loves him, she would be there for him no matter what."
"Look Andrea, you've only been with us, what, almost 5 years right? You don't know anything about Sam and his wife. They love each other. Sam has his reasons, he doesn't need you adding more trouble to his life."
"And what about Charlie?" Andrea snapped.
"They grew up together, for god sake their relationship is innocent. It never seems sexual, more like brother and sister." Melissa retorted.
"Brother and sister is too much. They care about each other and trust each other. I think throughout the years they developed a trust toward each other, that no matter what happens, it won't break. That's how I see them." Alex, the rookie of the team said and everyone just looked at him.
"I agree. Now let's just drop it. The least I want to be doing is talking about Charlie and Sam or even you Andrea. Sam must be deaf as much as you guys talk about the man." Michael said and with that got up and walked away.
"I'm sorry. You guys are right. It just breaks my heart seeing him like that. He's such a nice guy." Andrea said.
"I know, but just be his friend. He doesn't need more stress." Mel said.
"I promise I'll apologize next time I see him." Andrea said and with that went to work.
Jules's House
"Hey Steve. How are you doing? Come in."
"I am good, and you? You look beautiful."
"Thanks." Jules said and blushes remembering Sam calling her the same thing yesterday.
"So where are the kids?"
"They're around here somewhere. Guys come out here." Jules yelled and watched how her three beautiful and innocent kids came down the stairs trailing each other. Jules watched them and stifled a giggle. They could be so comical sometimes.
"Steve, you remember Samantha, Danny and Valerie? Guys this is my old friend Steve."
"Hi." They said shyly. Why are they so shy today? Jules thought.
"Hi guys." Steve said and they all stood there looking at each other. Kathy walked in the room and raised an eyebrow.
"Oh Steve, remember Katherine?"
"Oh yes, how have you been? You're all grown up now. You guys were so small last time I saw you, about 4 years ago, right?"
"It seem like the time flew."
"Why are they so quiet?" Katherine asked.
"I don't know. Guys what's wrong?" Jules asked and looked at her three kids holding hands.
"Um, is he going to be like the guy? You know the guy with the witch mother." Samantha said and Kathy burst out laughing, while Steve looked confused.
"Why do you ask?"
"Well, we didn't like him. He was boring." Danny said and raised his chin to dare Steve to say something.
"I'm not boring. I want you guys to like me." Steve said but they still stared.
"How about we get going." Jules said and they sighed. "What now?" Jules asked frustrated they have been acting weird all day.
"We don't want to go to that boring restaurant." Samantha said.
"I have an idea. How about we go get pizza at Fun Town?" Steve asked and they smiled.
"Ok, he's much better Mommy." Danny said and with that they walked out the door.
"Sometimes I don't even understand them myself." Jules said and this time she was the one that sighed and followed Kathy and the kids out.
Somewhere in the city
"Hello."
"Get over to Fun Town."
"What's at Fun Town?"
"Jules is there with the kids; I want pictures and video if you can. Don't let them see you or I will kill you."
"Ok."
Fun Town Restaurant
"Jules, this is great. I think I just earned some points with your kids." Steve said.
"I know, right? I think they just wanted to get their own way. Sneaky little bastards." Jules said and laughed.
"It's being a while since I heard you laugh like that."
"They are my life. They make me smile all the time."
"You are amazing, Jules. Just look at you, a single mother, raising four kids and keeping up with a demanding job. Not a lot of women could do that."
"Thanks Steve. You don't know how much I needed to hear that. It's been so stressful lately, with Valerie's surgery and Sam coming back."
"I can't even imagine. That must have been so hard."
"It felt lonely sometimes, like I wouldn't be able to hold it together."
"I know what you mean, I felt lonely when my wife and child died."
"Did they ever catch the person that did that? Who would be so cruel to kill a defenseless woman and her baby daughter?" Jules said angrily, grabbing Steve's hand.
"No, they haven't and that's why I had to move. I couldn't stay in that place thinking about them." Steve said and Jules hugged him.
"I'm glad you're here. I've missed you. Oh, look who's here." Jules said and turned around to see Curtis walk in with a lady and two little girls with him.
"Hey Curtis." Steve said.
"Hey guys, this is my wife Sally and my two daughters Evelyn and Erica." Curtis said. Jules and Steve greeted them.
"You guys should sit with us, it's not like the kids are going to stay on the table, they're going to be busy playing around. We can watch them from here." Jules said and they agreed.
"Hey Mom, can we have more money?" Kathy asked. She's being playing with the kids, so Steve and Jules could catch up.
"Mom?" Sally questioned looking at Jules and Kathy.
"Adopted." Katherine said and the lady blushed.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to seem like I was judging, but you look really young. How many kids do you have?" Sally asked.
"I have 4 including her. And the three coming this way are mine." Jules said watching as her three kids made their way to the table for drinks.
"Manners!" She told them as they introduce themselves and took Erica and Evelyn with them.
"Whoa, they are a force of nature. I thought my two were hyper."
"Oh you have no idea." Jules said continuing the conversation.
Royal Hotel
"What's wrong?"
"Jules is mad at me."
"Why?"
"Because I knew your son was on a mission and this whole time she thought he was dead."
"What are we going to do with the two of them?"
"Honestly, I don't know. Sometime I feel like maybe I'm just wrong about everything."
"I feel the same way. I miss those kids so much. I made so many mistakes and didn't even realize it until your daughter took the kids away."
"You should see them, they're just beautiful, just a combination of your son and my daughter."
"I could imagine. The Braddock's are beautiful people."
"No, the Callaghan's look way better." Nathan said and they both laughed.
"I am worried about this threat. I have a bad feeling about this."
"Me too, Samuel, me too."
"And I think they are in the middle."
"I know, that's why I'm keeping an eye on them."
"Me too." General Braddock said and they both laughed.
"On three, where are they now?"
"Fun Town." They both said and laughed again as they continued talking and worrying about the threat that they know is coming soon.
Jules House
"Steve, we had a great time. Thank you."
"Me too, it was great catching up."
"I know. I'm happy for Curtis, he has a great family. Hey, don't forget to tell him to send me the pictures he took."
"Yes he does. Anyway goodnight." Steve said and leans down and kisses Jules on the lips.
"Steve."
"I'm sorry, it's just that you remind me of her. I guess I needed it."
"It's all right." Jules said and kissed him one more time on the lips and watched him walk away to his car. She sighed and closed the door behind her.
Charlie's House
"Michael, where have you been? I've been waiting here for hours." Melissa said.
"I had something to do."
"What's going on? You've been acting weird all day. And then I noticed you were on the phone and then you just left."
"It's nothing, I'm tired Mel. We'll talk tomorrow."
"All right. Good night." Mel said and hang up frowning.
Somewhere in the city
"Hello."
"You get everything?"
"Yes, there are some good pictures here. I even managed to get some videos of the kids."
"Good job. You already know where to leave them."
"By the way Sam and Charlie are not here."
"I already knew that. This is the best opportunity to work on my plan."
"Which is?"
"I am sorry I didn't hear you correctly. What did you ask?"
"Nothing."
"You keep talking like that and I will kill you. Now go do what I told you and stop asking stupid questions."
