My whole body feels like it has went into shock, as I'm trying to comprehend what Christian has just told me.
"Ana? " He asks as Teddy starts to fuss.
He goes to pick him.
"Gail? Could you feed Teddy and then lay him down for his afternoon nap please. " He asks
"Of course Mr. Grey. " She says as she grabs a bottle and then Teddy and heads upstairs
"Ana? " He asks in his worried voice. I don't know what to say. Elena is dead.
"How? When? What happened? " I finally ask
"Ana there's still a lot that I don't know. They found her last night. I guess her submissive found her dead on her playroom floor last night. She was shot in the chest. She died instantly. They're investigating. " He says
"Christian, did you have anything do to with it? " He asks
"Ana, as much as I hated everything she did and all the problems she caused I could have never killed her. I promise you that I had absolutely nothing to do with it. " He says and by the look on his face I can tell he's being honest
"Who would do this? " I ask
" I don't baby. I'm going to find out though. " He says
I know that I should probably be happy that she's not around, but I kind of feel bad for her. Although she tortured me and always reminded me that she had Christian first, I feel sympathy for that woman. Then it dawns on me this must be why Christian stayed late at the office.
"So when you said you were working late... " I start
"I was trying to figure out what happened. I promise you, Ana, that I was going to tell you I just wanted to figure out what happened and have all the details before I said anything. " He says
"What's on your mind? " He asks
"I just don't get it. Have a good day" I tell him
"Ana, If you want me to stay here, I will. " He says
"No, Christian go to work. Do what you need to do. " I say
"Alright. I love you Ana. I won't be long I'm only going for a couple hours. My parents want us to come over for dinner tonight. " He says
"Okay. " I say. Then he kisses me and heads out the door
When Christian gets home, Teddy and I are sitting on the floor playing with his toys. He has learned to sit up all by himself. He's growing up so fast. The one constellation to Elena's death is that I know my baby is safe. As I hand teddy is blanket that christian and I bought him when he was a baby he puts the corner in his mouth and chews on it. He's getting big so fast. I just want to hold him forever
"How are my two favorite people in the whole world doing? " I hear Christian ask. I didn't even hear him come in
"We're doing better now that daddy is home" I say standing up and Christian hugs me
" I have to go shower then We can leave for my parents house. " He says
"Okay. " I say and he heads upstairs
When we arrive at the Grey's house we sit in the Audi for what seems like a lifetime.
"Does your mom know? " I ask
"Not yet. " He says
"Are you going to tell her? " I ask
"I wasn't planning on it. Do you think I should? " He asks
" No matter what she did, no matter what she said, at one point she was your mothers best friend, I think she'd want to know. " I say
"I'll tell her, but after dinner. I don't want to ruin the night before it even begins. " He says
"Okay. " I say
"Ready? " He says unbuckling Teddy's carseat
"Yes I say climbing out of the car.
When he ring the door bell Grace and Carrick greet us.
"Ana. Christian." Grace says hugging us and kissing our cheeks.
"Hi, mom. " He says
"Happy birthday" Grace and Carrick say at the same time.
"Come in" Carrick says and we all make it to the family room where Kate, Elliot, Ethan, and Mia are all sitting.
"Happy Birthday Christian. " Mia cheers as she gives Christian a hug
"Thank you Mia." He says as he sets Teddy's carseat down and picks him up
"Happy Birthday, Bro. " Elliot says
"Thank you Lellliot. " He smirks
"Can I hold my grandson?" Carrick asks
"Of course you can dad. " He says
After dinner we all sit in the family room and chat. As I finish my wine, I take my glass into the kitchen where Grace is.
"Ana darling, you startled me. " She says turning around from putting dishes in the sink
"I'm sorry Grace, I was just bringing this in here. " I say handing her my glass
"Okay. How are you Dear? " She asks
"I'm doing good. How are you ? " I ask
"I'm good. Teddy is getting so big. " She says
"I know. I think I'm going to cry when he starts to crawl. " I say
"Ana and I have to go soon, Mother, but Can I talk to you for a second" ? I hear Christian ask as he makes his way in the kitchen
"Sure sweetheart. " She says going to the table to sit.
"Listen, I wasn't going to tell you this, but Ana insisted that I should. Elena is dead. " He says
"What? When did this happen. How did this happen?" She asks looking confused
"We don't know all the details yet, but she was shot in her house. The guy she was seeing, he found her. " He says
"Oh goodness. I hated what she did to you. What she did to Ana, but I'd never wish this on her. " She says
"I know mother. I'm sorry. I'm looking into what happened. And I'll let you know if I find anything else. " Christian says
"Thank you Darling. Be careful. " She says
"I will. " He says
We say our goodbyes and then we go home.
As we lay in bed, Christian holds me tight. I feel home. When I'm in his arms none of the bad stuff seems to matter.
"I canceled my trip to New York. " He says
"Why? " I ask I can't keep the shock out of my voice
"Ana, whoever did this is still out there. I need answers. I just want to be here with my family. " He says
"Okay. " I say
"I love you. " He says
" I love you too. "
When I wake up, Christian is nowhere to be found. I go downstairs and he's not there. I go to Teddy's nursery, where Teddy is sound asleep and he's not there either. The only other place I can think of is his Study. I walk in to find Christian on the phone.
"Are you sure? "He asks" Yeah. Okay. Bye" He says
"What's wrong ? " I ask
" Do you remember how Elena got out of jail after everything she did? We didn't understand how. " He asks
"Yeah. What about it? " I ask
"Well apparently Linc hired the lawyer and pulled some strings to get the charges dropped." He say
"Wait, her ex? " I ask
"Yes. He's been missing since the night she died. Police are thinking he had something to do with it. They went to his apartment and none of his stuff is there. " He says
