So this chapter is a short one. I would say it's more like a filler but there is meaning to it. I was hoping for it to be longer but while writing this chapter I found that another one of my rats had passed away; unfortunately, a lot of them are ill so they won't be around for long.

Disclaimer: I do not own twilight.

Carlisle's POV

I got home later than I wanted to today. I had planned to get home in my lunch break for Jasper but then a sudden idea came to mind; causing me to find something else to do in my free time. I'm sure Jasper would like it when he finds out what I had been up to. He liked it when I brought things back for him but this time, it was something special.

I was rather suspicious when Jasper hadn't run up to me the second I opened the door. He always did that. Perhaps he hadn't heard me? That couldn't be it though; Jasper had the best hearing in the house and my wife certainly heard me as she greeted me at the door.

"Hello, honey. How was your day?" Esme asked.

I turned to her after hanging up my jacket and smiled.

"It was alright. I got Jasper a little something during my break. It was only a matter of time before we got him one anyway" I shrugged.

"Did you get what I think you got?" Esme questioned with a smile beginning to grow on her face excitedly.

The grin that appeared on my own face was confirmation. I took a smallish box out of the bag I was carrying and passed it to her so that she could look inside.

"Carlisle, it's beautiful! He'll love it" she gasped as she passed it back to me.

"I sure hope he will. I'm gonna get Jasper. Meet me in his play room so we can give it to him together" I told her.

I was about to walk passed my wife when she suddenly stepped in my way which earned her a curious gaze from me.

"Bella's here" she whispered.

I raised my eyebrows in surprise and at the same time, use my ears to hear out any trouble that Jasper could possibly be causing. I was rather confused when I couldn't hear much.

"How did Jasper take it?" I asked, rather anxious to hear the answer.

Jasper didn't take too well to company but if Bella was still here, maybe I underestimated him.

"Not that bad but he got a little protective over Edward when she appeared on the doorstep. He thought that she was a threat until Alice came to the rescue" Esme explained.

It's even worse to think that Bella had come unexpectedly. Nobody would have been prepared to control Jasper if he got out of hand.

"Did he hurt anyone?" I asked, a little nervous again.

Esme shook her head at me but the look on her face didn't seem to agree. It was a typical thing for Esme to cover up for her own children but it was important for me to know exactly what Jasper is capable of as well as to be able to tell if his aggression is lessening or worsening.

"Esme" I begged for the truth.

"He didn't hurt anybody. He sensed Bella before any of us could but he just stood there and stared through a wall and I was worried about him. I put a hand on his shoulder in hope that he would come out of it but it startled him a little and he snapped his teeth. But that's all, Carlisle. Nobody was hurt" she assured me.

I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. Of course Esme would worry if Jasper had just been staring through a wall but it was times like those when he was at his most unpredictable and most probably dangerous.

I tried to make it clear to my family that despite the fact that sometimes Jasper came across as cuddly, he also needed to be kept wary of.

I suppose snapping his teeth wasn't nearly as bad as actually biting somebody but it was still a bad habit that needed to go. When Jasper bites, it's because he feels like it's self-defence and it makes him feel safer; or he generally wants to hurt somebody.

Snapping his teeth, however, is Jasper's warning to back away; that he doesn't want to hurt anybody but he will if they don't stay back. As nasty as it sounds, it is actually a technique some wild animals use to keep the rest of their pack safe. In short, we were worth protecting in his eyes.

I decided to go easy on Jasper for this, but just this once. He probably didn't even realize that he did it.

I find all my children plus Bella in the main room. Bella, Edward, Rosalie and Emmett were playing monopoly whereas Alice was teaching Jasper how to do a word-search.

His attention, however, moved onto Bella whenever she moved a muscle. Even as I was in the same room as him, he didn't seem to notice me. Was he that paranoid about having a stranger in the house? This was his comfort zone after all. To him, it was like an animal marking their territory on an already claimed land. I bet he was doing all that he could not to fight back which were what his animal instincts would be telling him to do.

"Hi dad" Alice greeted once I moved to take a seat on the sofa that the two were sharing. Jasper's head snapped to my direction for a few seconds before his gaze returned to Bella.

"I have something for you" I mentioned, causing Jasper's head to turn to mine again and tilted it slightly.

I stood from the seat and left the room, knowing that Jasper would follow in curiosity. As I told her to, Esme met me in Jasper's play room and Jasper cautiously entered as well, looking between the both of us.

"What you got me?" He asked peculiarly.

The tilt in his head was still there has he sat down cross legged in front of me. He watched as Esme grabbed the smallish box from the bag and passed it to me.

"Did you get me toclat? I still can't eat anything" Jasper noted in a childlike manner.

"I have got you something better than chocolate, Jasper" I told him as I handed out the box for him to take.

Instead of taking it, he leaned over to smell it. Jasper was acting more and more human each day yet it still surprised me that the animal within him was still there.

Once he was satisfied with the smell, I chose to open the box for him which revealed a wristband which included the Cullen crest in the center of it. Esme and I have given a piece of jewelry to all of our children which had the same crest on it to resemble the fact that they were part of the family. I think that it may have had more meaning with Emmett and Rosalie since we had adopted them whereas Alice and Edward were already biologically ours but it was still a special gift.

Jasper seemed to pause and stare at it rather suspiciously. Maybe he had no idea what it was and how to wear it. He glanced up at us and then back down again as he took the wristband out of the box and look at it very closely; as if he were examining it. His main focus was the crest itself.

It took me by surprise when he suddenly grabbed my left hand and brought it closed to his face and it was then when I realized that it was the hand with my ring that also had the Cullen crest. He must have noticed that it was the exact same symbol on it.

He looked back to his wristband and then up at me and grinned but no words were said.

"Hold your arm out. I'll put it on you" I told him with a smile.

He did as he was asked and I took the wristband from him and put it around his right wrist. Once it was on, he moved closer to Esme and searched for the same crest which he found on her bracelet. This brought another smile on his face.

"Have evweyone got one?" He asked.

"Yes. It means that we are a family" I told him slowly.

I thought it was impossible for his grin to get any bigger but he managed to do it. And then the next thing I knew, Jasper was wrapping me in a tight hug.

"Thank you, daddy" he whispered.

And then he released his grip on me and moved onto Esme. And there I had been, wondering if he would have liked it or not. I had been aware that Jasper didn't understand the value of things so I was unsure if Jasper would have understood the meaning of giving him this gift. Part of me wanted to wait until he was a little more responsible but Esme had been dropping hints that we should make him feel more like family.

As soon as he pulled away from Esme, he ran out of his play room without another word. I wouldn't be surprised if he was going to show it off to everyone; excluding Bella of course.

"I knew he'd love it" Esme murmured.

Again, sorry for the short chapter but I couldn't really concentrate.

I have also noticed how much my reviews have slowed down so I would really appreciate it if you leave a review. Thanks!
