Angel: HEY GUYS! Okay so I know this isn't a Truth or Dare chapter and all buuuuuuutttttt…. I'm going to be honest, I haven't even started on the next chapter for you guys.. I KNOW I'M SORRY! I'LL GET STARTED AS SOON AS I CAN! But see my high school is ridiculous where they give out summer homework, and my school starts next week and precious me is still sitting in Australia currently and I haven't even started on my homework because I'm incredibly procrastinating. I know, it's awful.
HOWEVER! I completely forgot why I started this because.. .y'know. My awful memory. But, this was in my drafts as something I started awhile back for my best friend Jamie as a one shot of her and Soul, set in time before Somie was born and perhaps Jamie was still in the beginning phase of her pregnancy. Since I left it on a bit of a cliffhanger at the end, I'll consider writing an add on, maybe with Jamie, so it won't seem as dramatic.
I just thought it was a cool chapter to put up for the moment and see how people would like it, not to mention, consider it as a gift for Jamie herself. I may be the number one Soul and Maka shipper out there but just as she supports me, I support Jamie with her ship with Soul. I think they would make a nice couple had there ever been a chance of fictional characters and real people meeting.
And don't worry, sometime soon I will be posting a wedding chapter for the rest of you! Remember everyone, I love you! Each and every single one of you Fallen Angels! There is no pressure on commenting on this chapter and whatever but to hear your opinions on this one-shot would be great!
~Hence It Begins~
Jamie sat on the couch, finally resting after a full day of whatever training she could possibly get done. Even if she was pregnant, she wouldn't allow herself to fall behind on her job. Pregnancy was not an excuse, prior to what Cas, Soul, Tommy, Chris, and practically everyone else said. Ok so maybe it was just her that said 'Pregnancy is not an excuse for doing nothing'. Sadly, with the state she was in and even training, she was no longer allowed to go on missions. So everyone else went while she stayed behind. That would be the explanation as to why she was currently alone at that moment. However, the same thing always occurred when Jamie stayed behind from the missions. A little someone jumped in to keep her company. Except, this little someone was late today. Jamie didn't mind. It was actually a great advantage.
Her hand reached under one of the cushion folds of the couch and pulled out some Reese's. They were just some extras she kept for whenever this little someone came over or she had her eating urges. At the first bite of the peanut butter chocolate, her feelings of worries on her friends and lover on the mission, anxiousness about the little someone, and the raging hormones this pregnancy was causing her was slowly being soothed away, letting her taste buds take all control.
The door slammed open. "Made it~!"
Never mind.
Jamie looked up to see her old friend, Angel, at the doorway. She grinned at her, gesturing for her to sit down beside her and giving her greetings along the way. Angel was a meister but had no weapon so she didn't go on missions regularly so she would spend time with Jamie to keep her company. Plus, she enjoyed hanging by her side since they were friends after all and Angel's need to spoil both the future mother and baby-on-the-way at all times.
Angel ran to Jamie's side, practically flying off her feet in excitement.
"Look at what I got you~!" Her voice came out dramatically and in a sing-song tone.
Jamie sweat dropped but then smiled, still happy by her friend's actions even though they made her appear insane at times.
Angel's giggles overflowed in the room. "Well first off, for you. I installed a chocolate fountain in your kitchen and a miniature one in your bedroom though you probably already had one. Doesn't matter because now you have even more and who doesn't love more chocolate?-"
Jamie put a hand on Angel's shoulder, silently letting her know she was rambling. Even if Jamie was the one who was pregnant, Angel sure acted like she was the one instead with all of her mood swings and over excitement.
Angel took in a breath but smiled nonetheless. "Sorry. But now that you got your gift, time for my little niece's gift!"
Jamie stared at Angel, blinking to process the sentence. "You know, no matter how many times you say it, she can't be your niece. You're not blood related or legally related for that matter."
Her friend's shoulders slumped, a pout appearing. "Why must you ruin my dreams? I don't have a kid so I go for the next best thing. Besides, if she's not my kid I'll at least imagine she's my niece."
Jamie nodded. "Still though. How about I think about making you her godmother?"
Angel squealed, hugging Jamie as tightly as she could without trying to cause damage on either her friend or the unborn baby.
Jamie still was unconvinced. "Listen, you want a baby then? You have Kid. You two can have one. Unless…." A knowing smirk grew on Jamie's face. "You two haven't gone that far yet."
Angel's face went crimson. "First off, all my life I believed I shouldn't have children because all they do is waste my money. Second off, I'm not ready for that! Thirdly, pregnancy is too much. Child birth is incredibly painful, not to mention the morning sickness, the kicks, etc."
Jamie zoned out midway, waving her friend off as she munched on her Reese's. "Yeah, yeah."
Angel rolled her eyes. "Anywho, I got the baby some more baby furniture! I got her a tiny little bench with a itty bitty desk, ooh and a tiny rocking chair that is just so adorable. I didn't know what color you guys prefered but I thought let's go with white since she's going to be such a little angel- Wait… Um… Just forget that part. Back to what I bought her. A cute basket for her to put her stuff in, you know like her baby toys. I got some paintings and pictures to liven up the room a bit as well. Ooh and as for her baby stroller, I made it look like a magical carriage since she is our little princess. Oh my gosh-!"
Jamie shook Angel by the shoulders. "Woman! Don't buy so much for her! You're already buying this much for our little girl who isn't even born yet!"
Angel smiled sheepishly. "Sorry. I'm just really excited. For both you and Soul. I want to give this little girl an opportunity like no other."
Jamie sighed in understanding.
Angel crossed her arms and glanced at her seriously for a moment."By the way…"
Jamie stiffened, remembering her actions suddenly. She hid them under the couch cushion for a reason and completely forgotten and then she had the audacity to eat them in front of her!
Angel spoke up. "You better share those Reese's with me."
Jamie slumped over, depressed.
A few days later, Jamie was starting to recognize strange behavior being ignited from the men in the household. The closer the day of the birth, the more… weird.. they were becoming. Soul had gone from the cool, carefree guy she had once known into a guy who was uptight all the time, making sure almost every single thing was perfect, and the worst. Jamie was to be kept under the best care in the world. When she was simply washing her hands, Soul came in to ask her if the water was not too hot or not too cold. When she was laying on the couch, Soul needed to know if the pillow was too soft or too hard or perhaps it's temperature was bothering her. Every single thing worried him and he needed to fix it. To her, it felt like Soul had turned into a mix of Maka and Kid. Every single detail needed to be in order and in line.
It didn't help none when her father (Chris) doted on her like a regular father would, Kid coming in everyday to make sure the house was symmetrical, and then other people who she knew kept asking questions and trying not to pressure her. As if Cas making her stop taking missions was bad enough! But now Soul! Loopy had more than once mentioned the fact to Soul's face about how he was being uncool and the scary thing was, he was enraptured with making everything perfect, he ignored what she said and kept going.
At first, Jamie wanted to take him to the hospital or something like that since this was obviously something serious. However, Angel carefully explained to her that this was normal behavior, at least for the father. Soul was just trying to make sure everything was perfect so nothing would happen to his little girl, even if it meant going to the extremes. Every father does that.
Angel used an example from when her mother was pregnant with her and how her father wouldn't sleep in the same bed with Marie while she was pregnant. This was because Stein was scared he would accidently sleep-dissect Marie and then something would've happened to both her and the baby. With that, Jamie felt a little more comfortable with Soul's weird behavior. And while Angel was still there, she questioned her on Black Star's behavior.
Yes, Black Star was behaving strangely as well. He was being quieter, he rarely spoke about surpassing God, and was actually polite to Jamie. He didn't try to start fights or anything. Of course, if it wasn't him starting things and then someone else would start it with him and then he would take action. However, no matter the situation that put him in, he would never fight around Jamie. That was an absolute no. Angel told her that despite everything, Black Star thought of Jamie as a dear friend, or sister if you will. In normal circumstances, he would do his best not to put her in harm's way but now that she was pregnant, his protective instincts had gone on full blast.
Finally, it was the explanation of Tommy and Chris. For some reason, the two kept self-doubting themselves lately, questioning what life really was about. It truly was the weirdest of them all to be honest. And creepy, adding. It would seem they were zoned a lot and couldn't focus very well. As always, Angel came up with an explanation. They were father and brother. As the males in the family, they were having a hard time accepting the fact their little girl was growing up so quickly. It didn't affect Jamie much afterwards. However, there were moments that she was pretty creeped out.
Naturally Jamie needed no explanation for Angel's behavior towards her and her future child. Angel would never admit it but she loved children, adored them and despite her prepared speech on why she would never have her own, Jamie knew very well that Angel was simply waiting for the right time. After all a world where Angel didn't have her own child would be quite horrific. So Angel just took advantage of the situation, spoiling the child soon to come. That was probably why she was the calmest, surprisingly, when it came to Jamie being pregnant. She treated Jamie as she always did and wasn't in over her head when it came to Jamie doing active things and such if it were to affect the baby.
Cas was…. Well Cas was Cas. He felt inclined to be by Jamie's side constantly but at other times he had to go out on missions to represent the both of them and take care of business. Best friends as they were, Cas made sure at all moments to calm down Soul when he became either over excited or over panicked. The same went for when Jamie was at her lowest and Soul happened not to be there, which was honestly very rare moments. Cas was the one who pushed away the others when Jamie needed a break, persuaded everyone Jamie was fine when she wasn't feeling well. Cas was their normalcy.
Angel didn't live with them so it wasn't as if she was Jamie's support system like Cas was, not to say Soul was there because trust in the fact, Soul put forth his 110% effort to be there for Jamie even though on his normal days before he met Jamie, let's be honest, he put in at most a 3% effort in things.
Still, even with all the newest confrontations of behaviors surrounding her, Jamie couldn't feel happier than with the child that was hers resting inside her currently. She had her lover beside her, her best friend, her father, her brother, her newest but not really new friends, and fellow co-host right there with her. Hectic as it was, Jamie wouldn't have changed a thing.
It was on one of those nights where she lay in her bed thinking to herself of such things, being much too late for anyone to be up and her bedroom was just lighted dimly but some of the moonlight glowing through the curtains Angel had given to Jamie as an anniversary gift. It mixed well with the moonrays being a faded midnight blue and shining so gently into her room as to not blind her, but soothe her instead.
Awoken from her thoughts when she suddenly felt a warm arm slide against her larger t-shirt, lifting it slightly so both her skin and the warmth fell into contact. She shuddered at the feeling, smiling almost instantly as she turned her head to see her exhausted lover, his eyes just half lidded. He clearly had just woken up.
"What are you doing up…" Although his message was clear, his words were gruff and slurred as he tried to speak to her, his mouth almost looking like it barely opened.
A soft giggle passing her lips, she turned her body just slightly so she wouldn't add to the pressure of her stomach. She cupped his cheek gently, finding it just as his warm that held her now, wrapped firmly but just as gently over her waist. His calloused fingers drawing small patterns into her side as left a light, lingering kiss to his cheeks and she could have sworn seeing the quirk of his lips, an attempt at his notorious smirk.
Taking that as her reply, Soul managed to chuckle, a soft rumbling in his chest as he watched her. "That doesn't answer my question."
Jamie shook her head and looked back at the ceiling where she realized she had been blankly staring at for a while now, "I was just thinking. This child… Ever since I became pregnant, everyone has been acting weird. Not that I like it or hate it, it just made me wonder if everything will become different once she's born."
A sudden look of concern crossed over Soul's features, his gaze softening and Jamie could feel the grip of his arm tighten over her just a bit more. "Jamie… A lot of people have been acting a bit different, sure, but if I know anything for sure it's that this little girl…"
As he spoke, he placed his hand over her belly and she bit her lip, eyes searching his quickly, almost desperately.
"She is going to be the coolest kid ever, after all, I am her father and you're her mother. As weird as they are, she will be surrounded by our friends too. Nothing can wrong if we all have each other. They're only acting weird because they're excited. We have a new addition to our big, crazy, dysfunctional family." Chuckling, he lifted Jamie's shirt just a bit as to not reveal anything but her belly where his hand was once resting.
Jamie was already smiling by now, hesitating when he lifted her shirt but felt her heart tug at the sight and feeling of his lips being placed right where she could feel her daughter rest inside of her.
"I love you and I love her. That will never change," He mumbled against her skin before pulling her shirt back down, fixing it out for her and lifting the blanket back over the two of them.
She smiled, scooting close to him as he wrapped her back in his arms again and she knew she didn't need the blanket to keep her warm comparing to the perfect job he did. "I love you too Soul."
Resting easy that night as slumber overtook her mind in the darkness, Soul opened his eyes once more to see the love of his life sleeping peacefully in his arms. Leaning in just one last time to bring a soft kiss to her forehead, cherishing her with every part of his being. Not a moment later, he fell asleep right beside her, both of them holding close to one another and never letting go throughout the night.
If only they had stayed up merely another minute as the door leading into their bedroom slowly opened but instead of such a creature of darkness wishing to enter their domain to tear away all they held dear, it was only Angel. Stepping into the doorway, she took slow and soft steps until she stood right beside their bed and looked down at them. Her gaze was soft, almost saddened as she watched them together. Green eyes flickering down to where Soul's arm wrapped around Jamie in a protective and loving manner, Angel slowly wrapped her arms around herself and shook her head slowly.
"I think we should talk."
Tensing up, Angel slowly turned to see Cas standing in the doorway face devoid of any emotion. Glancing once more to the couple in the bed, Angel nodded and followed Cas, door shutting behind them gently as to not stir the resting.
"I know you don't want to tell Jamie, Soul, or anyone else. There is a baby on the way and this is a time for celebration. But right now, this is my partner and my best friend we're talking about. I deserve an explanation," Cas explained straightforwardly, turning to look at the meister in his hallway.
Angel's lips parted, ready to speak before they closed shut again and she sighed to herself. "I don't have the heart to tell anyone anything. Cas, you know full well the horrors that could sprout out with this child."
Listening carefully to her words, he nodded, urging her to continue. "Their daughter will one day grow up and become a student at the DWMA. Trust me, I love their child just as much as the next person, maybe more but we have to remind ourselves her parents' positions. Jamie's past with slaying, Soul's Black Blood, and more. It's not the danger their child poses, it's the danger that will pose a threat to their daughter. She is the perfect combination of both their power and insanity. Who knows who will go after her?"
"That would be like questioning the power behind your own future child if you were to have one with Kid. He's a Grim Reaper, outstanding power beyond the rest of us and you're the daughter of the greatest Meister out there and he has Black Blood as well. Some of it must have passed down to you," Cas pointed out, eyes hardening on the figure in front of him as she brought such ideals he sometimes wished he could forget.
Angel flinched before gazing down, letting his words work their way into her mind until she jolted once more and shook her head quickly. "This isn't about me or Kid, we'll worry about it when it comes down to it later. For now, I am concerned with protecting their child. Protecting them."
"What do you suggest?" Cas didn't need another moment to question anything, he quickly agreed and stepped forward so they would be ready.
"For now, don't breathe a word to the either of them. Jamie wants nothing more than to protect her child and protect Soul, and Soul wants the same for his child and Jamie. It will cause chaos. Until the moment where the danger has made itself clear to us, we won't do anything," She said, nodding to her plan while Cas looked horrified.
"After this whole talk of such a danger and everything, you want to wait until last minute?!" He hissed out, hands clenched into tight fists at his sides.
Angel could only gaze at him, eyes sad but firm as she shook her head. "What more can we do? If we raise protection over them, people will become suspicious. If we tell them, boom, chaos. If we wait, the danger will soon show itself but if we're being realistic, the danger won't just show itself. It will do something. We won't know what that something is until it happens and I can guarantee it won't be good."
Sighing softly to himself as he runs his fingers through his hair, ruffling it a bit to loosen himself up, Cas begins to nod and glances back to Angel again. "Alright. I understand but I will be watching over my meister and protect her at all times, got that?"
She could only a form a ghost of a smile on her lips, a small amused twinkle in her eyes as she nodded. "Of course. I didn't expect anything less from you Cas. Have a good night."
Turning her back to her friend, she began to walk down the hallway, footsteps clicking in the silence of the night until Cas called out for her again, "Oh and Angel! What were you doing here tonight? You haven't been here all week and you don't have a key to the house…"
Stopping in the midst of her walk, a slow smirk crawled onto Angel's face and she glimpsed back with a soft giggle of her own, devious clearly. "Daughter of a mad scientist remember? I have my ways,"
Cas shuddered a bit by her words, something in them a bit cold and sharp but just as well, the familiar laughter of hers making him grin a bit and flash her a thumbs up. Sending her one last nod, he walked down the opposite end of the hallway while she continued on her own path. The night came to an end for all the meisters and weapons as they slept through the moon and up until the sunlight.
As the time came to pass, Jamie had delivered and her beautiful, full of youth, daughter Somie was a bright child, healthy and happy. Everyone around came to love her and Angel had never seen anything as precious to grace her eyes. Jamie and Soul stuck to the young girl like glue and as annoying as that would be for the child at times, she absolutely loved the affection her parents gave her. She knew she was special, both in the position of her family and in comparison to other children. She got along with everyone, unless they dared to mess with her or anyone she cared about. She became quite defensive and prepared like her mother although she could get reckless like her father at other times.
Her aunt Angel was someone she loved to spend time around but from a young age it always confused her whenever her aunt would just go silent and sometimes just stare at her with such a sad look. Whenever Somie would bring it up, another bright smile would return to Angel's lips, shaking her head and laughing it off as if it was nothing.
Cas and Angel never conversed over the topic ever again, not something they wished to dwell over although they knew such a time was bound to come and they were fearing it for coming soon. Especially since the time for Somie to enter into the DWMA was nearing as well.
Still, when it came down to it, at least they were happy. Somie would be training one day like how the rest of the members did, to either become a great meister one day and take after her beautiful mother and cool father. As intelligent as Maka, as confident as Black Star, as kind as Tsubaki, as happy as Patty, as level headed as Liz, as structured as Kid, as cautious as Crona, as reassuring as Cas, as defined as her grandfather, as determined as the Cook, and as knowing as Angel.
And one day she would be because together they would raise her and no matter what the danger was that was on it's way, not only would they have to deal with all of the powerful weapons and meisters and grim reapers that surrounded the young girl, they would have to deal with the young girl herself who was raised by every single one of them. The grand mix. And she was proud of it. After all, she was Somie. Daughter of Jamie and Soul Eater Evans.
