Wade Point Part 2

Matt POV
Matt stared in horror at the aftermath carnage of J.P's arm exploding. It seemed to happen so fast, and yet so slow all at the same time. The silence in the air was deafening as nobody really knew what to say, or do.
All must of the others could do was gape in silence and shock.
Because while the initial explosion frightened everyone greatly, it was seeing J.P afterwards that lead to a shocking revelation.
"J.P had a fake arm…"Matt thought inwardly as he tried to inspect the arm in question more closely. However J.P had turned his body away from everyone hiding whatever was left of his left arm from sight and was breathing in heavily obviously displaying the intense pain he must've of been feeling.
Only the warriors stood in front of J.P, Matt could see Koji and Bokomon's glowing hands/paws near J.P's left arm.
Unfortunately Matt also could notice the blood that was seeping down onto the sand.
Matt felt the color from his face drain, as he watched Joe finally race over to offer his own assistance despite the loud protests coming from the indignant J.P.
Suddenly Takuya turned around to show everyone his angry and anxious face.
"What are you guys looking at?! Scram for the moment okay…please…" Takuya said starting out in a shout that slowly descend into uncharacteristic pleading.
Matt and many others raised their eyebrows or dropped their mouths in shock at the sight of Takuya pleading with them. Everyone stayed as still as statues for another long minute.
Tai was first to react.
He said nothing but simply slowly walked further down the beach as a slightly dazed Agumon followed closely. With Tai's reaction Matt was finally able to get himself out of his own shock and follow Tai.
Gabumon trailed Matt silently as well, and just by Tai and Matt walking away everyone else broke out of their own shock as well and followed to give the warriors some privacy. They walked down a good couple of feet to make J.P comfortable enough.
However Matt still really couldn't shake the feelings he got when he could see the metallic bits of what left of J.P's arm, and oddly enough the bright orange watch that J.P always made sure to wear. Somehow it managed to remain perfectly intact.
Matt without even really realizing what he was doing picked up J.P's watch to hold onto.
Joe and a now guilty looking Gomamon remained behind to help, as really they were the only ones in the group besides Bokomon and Koji, both who were already helping anyway.
"Wha-what just happened?!" Matt questioned into the air leaving it open for anyone to answer.
"I really don't know Matt, I really don't know…" Tai replied nearly breathless.
It was evening and a large lone campfire was burning in the center of the circle where everyone was sitting. Meat, and fish on sticks also surrounded the campfire and was currently being cooked to perfection. Small talk had even started up again, though it was quieter than usual.
Joe and Gomamon had returned to the group about an hour ago, both of them looking rather pale and in shock. Although when pried neither Gomamon nor Joe would say anything about J.P's condition.
Instead the only "answer" anyone who receive was either a guilty look (Gomamon) or a headshake of disbelief (Joe).
Although Joe did say one thing.
"Guys I was told not to say anything yet, and that they would come back when ready" Joe answered aloud addressing everyone.
Matt nodded in understanding. None of the warriors had returned to their end of the beach for dinner from what Matt could see with the now rapidly darkening sky. Is that most of them were still in a semi-circle around J.P. Umi however was the only exception as she was looking out at the sea, and appeared to be shaking rapidly.
But Matt was too far away to be absolutely sure.
"Gee I hope they're okay" Ai said looking at Mako worriedly.
"I do too Ai" Mako replied sadly looking in the direction of Koichi, but only could see Koichi's back.
Matt was still silently contemplating the events while he nonchalantly twirled J.P's watch in-between his fingers. Because he realized as he thought more and more about the events that transpired beforehand. He realized that this had been coming a long time.
"I can't believe none of us pressed the issue more…" Matt thought silently. In fact the first clue that J.P's arm wasn't as peachy as he wanted everyone to believe happened WAY back in Chi Forest.
"I had just figured it was only the after effects of the core…it never occurred to me that it could be more severe than that..." Matt thought feeling a little bit ashamed of himself. He was always the watchdog of his teammates back in his first adventure, but somehow he didn't see through J.P's farce.
"However I starting to think I'm starting to think someone was onto what was really going on" Matt thoughts trailed off as he sent a light glare towards Henry and Terriermon the former of the pair holding his head in his hands.
It became exceedingly obvious to Matt and many others in the group, that those two were well aware of the more serious nature of J.P's condition. In fact Henry had even confessed earlier that he and Terriermon were planning to at least tell Joe.
But besides that they also mentioned that J.P had asked for their silence on the matter, and giving in both of them gave that to him.
Matt eased up on his glare with slight prodding from Gabumon.
He sighed.
Matt knew he was being ridiculous but he couldn't help it. Despite how much the warriors could get on his nerves, and make him angry. He did legitimately care for them, all of them even Koichi who has proven himself to be a worldly weary and wise soul despite young his age.
So although Matt wasn't too happy with Henry and Terriermon. As the representative of the Crest of Friendship he couldn't help but also admire their silent loyalty to J.P.
After all out of everyone here. He understood the warriors did have it the worst. With three teammates dead, distant, demanding, or cold partners, and having two possibly disabled teammates on top of everything else.
They got so many short ends of the sticks in this place, Matt was honestly surprised they could even still remotely mentally function. He could say from experience he would've already created another cave out of his depression if it was him.
At that thought Matt gave a quiet bitter laugh that no one heard.
Not to mention that fact aside there was also the fact barely anyone in the group knew about the warrior's home lives.
Matt knew it seemed like a weird thing to dwell on, but as he remembers his own adventure, and remembers listening to the other didgdesitned's and tamers stories he began to realize that mostly everyone digital adventures, not only improved themselves but their home lives as well.
Like Ken with his parents, Sora and Rika with their moms, Izzy's self-identity crisis, and even Matt can attest that his estranged relationship with his mother had slowly improved after his first adventure.
But when the warriors told everyone about their adventures, Matt just realized that they NEVER once really went into any details about their home lives. Sure they gave hints and tidbits, but they never fully explained their families or anything.
"I guess we were all so wrapped up in their story, nobody bother to ask about it" Matt thought sighing aloud making Gabumon turn towards him looking at him with concern.
Matt merely gave a small smile and pat his best digipal on his head in assurance before returning to his thoughts.
Sure Matt knew more about Zoe and Umi, but that was only through Mimi, Sora, Kari, and Yolei. And they also only knew as much as Zoe and Umi told them. Because with how secretive the warriors are Matt can easily believe they would omit details about home lives as well.
All Matt hoped was their home lives wasn't as terrible as the ideas his head was coming up with made them out to be. But with how things about the warriors have been in the past he knew it could be asking a bit much.
However he wasn't left to his thoughts much longer.
Because finally now after hours of avoiding everyone else, everyone held their breaths as they saw the warriors get up and all of them making their way over to join the group.
Matt and Gabumon watched in fascination as all the other warriors once were walking towards, but managed to still keep J.P out of view. One by one they sat down around the fire, until no one was left in front of J.P.
Everyone was silent.
J.P stood in front of everyone looking more sad and vulnerable than Matt's ever remembered seeing him. His usually full of life brown eyes were downcast as he kept his eyes to the sandy ground.
His right arm lay limply at his side with his right fist balled up, as if he was getting ready to defend himself. His feet stiffly planted in the sand as he slightly shuffled his right foot uncomfortably.
However no matter how he much Matt tried not to look at it out of decency eventually like everyone else…
His eyes wandered up to his left arm…
Although a better description would be his left stub…
Now bandaged up, Matt saw in horror just how far J.P's arm injury actually reached. It went well above where his elbow would've been, and seemed to stop a couple inches short of his shoulder. Matt couldn't help but cringe a little as he watched the stub wiggle slightly.
It didn't help that dried blood could still easily be seen coating the bandage a bit.
Matt's heart went out to J.P as he watched the normally joking warrior suddenly become so reserved and down on himself. He couldn't stand it, and so unconsciously like Tai did earlier in the outskirts of Yami City Matt in the moment allowed his Crest of Friendship to shine through.
Without really thinking about it and just wanting to make J.P comfortable again Matt breathed in and said…
"Hey J.P are you going to stand there like a statue all day? Or are you going to sit down and eat dinner with us?" Matt asked in a light teasing tone surprising everyone around him.
J.P's eyes snapped up to Matt along with many others. Most looked at Matt in sheer confusion, disbelief or disgust at the seeming lack of tact.
Although the warriors were smiling because they realized Matt had understood that this is what they had wanted to happen. He was doing what they had feared no one would catch onto or try to do.
He was addressing J.P unlike everyone else looking past his amputated arm, and simply making J.P feel normal. Something the warriors struggle making people back home do, and sometimes even themselves.
Zoe had the biggest smile on her face though, because like J.P she also struggled with this back home and within her team. So she was extra happy someone in the other groups got it.
"He really does deserve that Crest of Friendship he has doesn't he?" Koji whispered to Takuya smiling slightly.
"Yeah Koji he does" Takuya whispered back just as happy.
And then it became really was evident that Matt's reaction was the right one, because J.P allowed a small smile to grow at the casual way Matt addressed him.
He addressed him like nothing was wrong.
Like he wasn't missing anything.
Without pity.
Although the thing that made J.P fully smile came moments later when the toddlers all got up and ran over to J.P.
"Mr. Matt is wright J.P! Your legs will get rweally tired!" Ai said pulling on J.P's right arm trying to lower him to the ground.
"Yea! Come on the sand may be scratchy but it's still nice and warm!" Mako tugging on his side.
"And you didn't eat any yummy food yet! By tha way be careful next time your arm going boom rweally scared us!" Suzie scolded at J.P waggling a finger at him.
That was the straw that broke the camel's back.
"Hahahaahah hooo! Heheheh!" J.P laughed cracking up as he sat on the sand and wrapped all three of the toddlers in a one armed hug.
Everyone else gazed at the scene mostly with confusion. Half of the group digimon included didn't really understand what was going on…
However Matt did noticed that after the rest of his older teammates and a few of the tamers seemed to slowly one by one get flashes of comprehension skirting across their faces. However afterward some of their faces took more of an ashamed tone.
J.P soon stopped laughing tears grazing his eyes.
"Thank you little guys. You're all too much." J.P praised tickling the toddlers who laughed in his right arm, and wiggled around trying to escape his grasp.
Although after he stopped he turned his attention to Matt who was smiling peacefully at the scene. J.P bowed his head in respect towards the older boy for a moment.
"Thank you Matt. I really mean it..." J.P said lightly his voice cracking a little. He let go of the little ones whose partners immediately flocked over to with smiles of their own. Impmon and Lopmon were rather proud of their tamers at the moment.
Matt said nothing but got up and Gabumon followed him. He stopped in front of J.P kneeled down and gave J.P a one armed hug of his own. Afterward he let go and pat the younger boy on the shoulder, and placed the orange watch he had been carrying into right hand.
"No problem J.P…I get it"
After the reveal passed the awkwardness quickly went away.
Because as time passed everyone else came to the same conclusion Matt did earlier about how to treat J.P. It did take some time, and there was fumbled out ashamed apologies for earlier stares, but J.P waved them all off without consequence.
Talking resumed after the food was finally ready. The night was now fully in effect. Everyone was talking amongst themselves and eating their dinner contently.
Matt had moved and taken his place beside J.P eating his fish. He didn't talk to J.P, but the comfortable silence was enough for them. Even Gabumon used to Matt's silent moments was fine as well.
The toddlers stuck close by too, making funny faces and trying to keep J.P happy. It was obvious J.P appreciated it, as he smiled at every one of their attempts.
Matt saw Tai give him a thumbs up and Matt waved it off rolling his eyes. He didn't think he really did anything super special. He just couldn't stand seeing usually the cheeriest warrior so down on himself.
He knew what that was like and he didn't like seeing others face the same thing. Heck Matt remembers when he wouldn't even let anyone besides Gabumon ever see him cry. Matt also had a feeling Sora felt the same way as well, because he shared a spilt second understanding look with her.
However it really was a split second as Tai, immediately turned toward her and swept her attention away just as easily.
Matt couldn't really help the slight spike of anger and jealously he felt towards Tai at that moment. But he still couldn't bring himself to feel any real malice. Because just as he knew Sora's feelings for him were wavering, his feelings for her were doing the exact same thing.
He still cares for her of course, but he's starting to realize that his general affection retains more towards brotherly love than romantic. However that still didn't mean he liked Tai semi flirting with Sora, whether Tai was doing it consciously or not.
"Maybe Sora and I should just split and get it over with…" Matt mused letting his eyes unintentionally wander over to where Mimi was sitting with Yolei. Mimi seemed to catch Matt's stare and give him a little unsure smile of her own.
"Maybe I should…"
However a tiny curious voice broke Matt out of his reminiscing.
"Mr. J.P why did your arm go boom anyway? Do you have nother one you can use?" Ai asked innocently as Impmon looked about ready to clamp a claw over her mouth.
Silence returned at Ai's rather innocent question. Even Matt himself wasn't sure if J.P or any of the warriors would give a direct answer. In fact the only reason he didn't ask J.P was because he figured it was a bit too soon, and that J.P probably would give him a roundabout answer anyway.
However Matt underestimated the power of a child's innocence. Because J.P knew Ai really didn't fully understand the ramifications of what she just asked. To her it was just a curious question nothing more.
And J.P was so moved by her and the other toddlers innocent prodding earlier…he complied. Besides he thought that after what Matt done earlier, maybe it was time for him to open up more.
He just hoped his teammates would follow his example.
J.P smiled putting everyone else at ease.
"Well Ai I lost my arm during my team's first adventure here, and a friend-" J.P said before he was interrupted.
"Which was my fault…" Tommy admitted in a quiet voice as tears strained his eyes.
J.P immediately frowned up along with his teammates. Although Umi fidgeted very uncomfortably and her eyes shifted over to Zoe.
However Matt and the others just looked on and each other in confusion.
"I-I'm the reason J.P lost his arm…he lost it saving me" Tommy said huffing as it was becoming evident he was trying not to cry.
"J.P and I were in a…"interrogation" chamber in one of our enemy's home. One thing lead to another and I ended up unconscious and J.P who had been tied down had to cut off his arm to escape and save me…" Tommy confessed looking at J.P with teary and apologetic eyes.
The other warriors all moved closer to Tommy to comfort the young boy who had curled up within himself. His head was now down so he couldn't meet anyone's eyes.
Matt's eyebrows rose and Gabumon let out a gasp. That was the first time any of the warriors went into any real detail about where or how they obtained any of their injuries from. Putting aside how horrible and cringe worthy the way J.P lost his arm was, it was even more surprising that it was Tommy who admitted it.
The other children and digimon either appeared to look shocked, angry, ill, or sad. Although it was obvious to the older or more observant children that the word "interrogation" that Tommy used was only there to cover up what he really meant to say…
Torture.
Tommy and J.P had been in a torture chamber.
And now Matt thought feeling sick to his stomach, what happened with the warriors and that Pumpkinmon back in Kurozumi Mountains had even more disturbing context to it.
Before Matt could try to offer any words of comfort J.P spoke.
"Tommy...TomTom come on now. None of this again" J.P scolded lightly getting up and moving over to Tommy. J.P put his hand under Tommy's chin and lifted it up so the boy had to look him in the eye.
"I'm going to tell you the same thing I told you six months ago. Tommy an arms just an arm! However the life of one of my closet friends and pseudo little brother is MUCH more important to me than that!" J.P exclaimed wrapping Tommy up in a one armed hug.
Tommy let out some tiny sobs as he smiled in J.P's arm. The others warriors joined in as well all of them either hugging Tommy or J.P.
Matt let out a light laugh as he saw his partner wipe his own eyes at the scene. He had to admit it was heartwarming and so far the most open the warriors have been with them and each other.
"Maybe they really just needed other people who they could really open up too" Matt sympathized knowing the feeling.
After the hug J.P turned his attention away from Tommy and the others to point towards Guardromon who looked at him in surprise.
"A friend ours, an Andromon named Scrap made me an animatronic arm for me" J.P explained with a grin on his face. Guardromon looked rather flustered learning an evolution of his built a fully functioning electronic arm for J.P.
"However sadly Ai, no I do not have a spare arm ready nor do I know how to make one for myself" J.P frowned looking at the sky.
"My arm must've took too much damage over this journey, and the water was the thing that broke it down finally. I mean my arm was water proof, I guess the damage was just too extensive." J.P sighed shaking his head.
Gomamon slumped over guiltily, before J.P reassured him.
"Hey Gomamon it's okay…I'm just as much at fault as you are…I knew how badly my arm was damaged…it's was only a matter of time before that happened anyway" J.P comforted the small seal digimon and Joe who both smiled slightly in appreciation.
Ai and the other toddlers frowned up.
"Mr. J.P can Mr. Scarp make you a new arm?" Suzie asked with a large doe eyed expression.
Matt held his breath. Praying that this ally of the warriors was still alive.
J.P took on a thinking pose.
"Probably Suzie. It's just a matter of finding him once we reach Hinansho City. He's not the easiest guy to find, but after the favor we've done for him in the past I'm sure he make me another one no problem" J.P assured a smile on his face as many others in the group either smiled or sighed with relief.
"Oh Good!" Suzie cheered happily with her friends.
Matt was happy too, that was another one of the warriors allies that was still alive. That was a relief in itself.
"J.P I'm curious myself how did you hide your arm for this long anyway?" Izzy asked in a gentle voice in case J.P wasn't as welcoming to him as the toddlers. Tentomon put a pincher up to his face in a pseudo face palm.
J.P actually smirked this time.
Then he held up his bright orange watch.
"With this! This watch was also made by Scrap. It's a cloaking device, when I wore it, it would hide the appearance of the metal and circuitry on my arm. Instead it gave my arm the appearance of a normal skinned arm. You have no idea how grateful I was for that…less trying to explain to my folks that way…" J.P trailed off.
"If only I was so lucky too. Huh J.P?" Zoe teased turning her head towards the large boy who grinned back at her, despite knowing she couldn't see it.
That reminded Matt of something, and with how things were going so far he figured this may be his only time to ask, and he would get any real answers.
"By the way…why don't you guys tell us about your folks? I mean everyone else told you all about their families' way back in Ophanimon's castle. Yet we know next to nothing about you guys. I mean you can pick and choose what you tell, but I know I would at least like to know something?" Matt asked gentle a cool smirk on his face.
Everyone else's eyes lit up too, as it appeared they were just as eager to know about the warriors home lives as Matt was. People and digimon alike began leaning in and encouraging smiles donned many faces.
The warriors look at each other warily seemingly having a silent conversation. However after a few moments it was Takuya who swiftly shook his head and nodded an affirmative.
"Alright I guess I'll start. I don't really have really anything to special to say. I'm a soccer player back home, and I have one little brother his name is Shinya. My mom's a party planner and my dad's an accountant" Takuya smiled wistfully at talking about his family.
"However I will add that I explained my scar by saying I got into a fight…my parents didn't like that explanation so well, but Shinya thought it was awesome! Although once this whole thing is over I get to go back home and be grounded once more" Takuya sighed shaking his head.
The other warriors laughed.
"Wait you guys didn't tell your families anything about your adventures?" Kari butted in afterward curiosity gnawing her. Because back in her dimension even the newer digidestined's parents knew about everyone's digimon partners by this point.
Plus the tamers parents knew of their partners as well. So why not the warriors?
It didn't take long for her to get her answer.
"No they don't Kari. Unfortunately we had no "real" proof of our adventures. We have no physical partners. Not to mention our powers and D-tectors left us the day we all returned home. It was almost like nothing really happened. I think our parents would've put us in the psychiatric ward if we tried to explain our adventures to them" Koichi explained.
"It also didn't help we returned the very same day we left. Much like you group on their first adventure" Koji added a rueful tone in his voice.
"Oh…" Kari said sadly. That couldn't have been easy.
"Anyway that aside Koji and Koichi your turn dudes!" Takuya said making a mock presenting gesture towards his best friend.
A best friend who did nothing but glare before sighing.
"Well…I'm Koji, and I practice Karate on occasion. I have a father who's a persecutor and a stay at home step mom." Koji said unsurely.
"Argh…you all know my only sibling is right next to me. Although we didn't know each other for years. We were actually separated at birth as our parents were going through a divorce before we were born" Koji began.
"Hey! I'm Koichi and I'm a free-lance artist in my spare time. Anyway continuing from what Koji said. I did know about Koji first, but that's only when our maternal grandmother told me on her death bed. Let's just say our father decided to "deny" my mother and I's existence to Koji for quite some time" Koichi said slightly bitter.
Koji's face soured as well. He was still rather peeved at his father for that. Sure Koichi's mom didn't say anything either, but she NEVER told Koichi that his father was DEAD!
Plus from what Koji remembers, Koichi did say their mom was planning to tell Koichi right after their grandmother died. However Grandma had simply beaten her to the punch.
"After that I…kinda sorta "stalked" Koji trying to work up the nerve to talk to him. Although I only did that when I had the time…our birth mother gets sick easily and usually I take care of her during those times…" Koichi admitted with a bright blush on his face.
Impmon, Takuya, and even Koji got a kick out of it.
"Obviously we eventually met in the digital world for the first time. Although it started off…"rocky" at first we did warm up to each other. We're dark and light we needed each other. Plus through Koichi I finally met my birth mother." Koji said a tiny smirk now on his face.
Matt's eyes lit as he watched the brothers. Koji reminded Matt so much of his younger self, that despite Koji being the warrior who usually made him the most angry he couldn't help but feel his fondness for the younger boy grow.
Especially after hearing how similar their stories were. He didn't know both of them were children separated from their brother by divorce. T.K was obviously shocked too, because he sent Matt a gaping look. Almost as if he couldn't grasp the fact!
"Déjà vu! Huh little bro!" Matt teased at T.K who smiled a little sadly unbeknownst to Matt as he was feeling even guiltier for his past treatment of Koichi now.
However the ball kept rolling.
"Okay well then I'm Zoe. While I was born in Japan, I lived in Italy for about twelve years of my life, and I speak fluent Italian, Japanese and English. Unfortunately this made it a bit hard to socialize with people once I came back to Japan. Plus it probably didn't help that I was kind of a huge snob…" Zoe admitted a little ashamed as Umi snickered.
"I want to be an air force pilot, to prove my worth despite my blindness, plus I kinda have a huge love for the sky!." Zoe stated with determination seeping through her tone, as she pointed to her cloud designed hoodie during her explanation.
"My father is a travel agent, and my mother is housing sales women. I also now have a seeing eye dog named Shadow a large black Labrador. Unfortunately I really couldn't explain my sudden blindness to my parents and they didn't take it all that well…but hey what're you going do?" Zoe finished with an almost comical shrug.
"Also I have no siblings, I obviously go to a…"special" school, and now I actually live outside of Shibuya, and in a countryside town. Now being blind the noises and smells in the city became a bit too much for me" Zoe said sheepishly.
Many a heart went out to Zoe at that moment. Adjusting to one sense leaving and then the other senses all increasing couldn't have been easy on her or her parents. Who weren't even allowed the real privilege of knowing why their daughter was suddenly blind…
"O-okay…well I'm Tommy. I like hockey, winter is my favorite season, and I have one much older brother who's actually going to college next year. Yutaka. We…really didn't get along at first but we are doing better now. Probably helps that I'm not a spoiled cry baby anymore" Tommy said sniffling a bit from his cry earlier.
Matt chuckled.
"Well you were perfect for the warrior of Ice weren't you?" Gabumon said lightly.
Tommy sheepishly at him a little.
"I don't really know what my parents do…per say honestly I never really thought to ask…that aside I can say I was bullied for a while. But after the digital world and learning how to defend myself that quickly stopped" Tommy finished with an almost dark smirk on his face.
Gabumon gave a little shake at the tone, but didn't do anything else otherwise.
"I guess I'll go next. Yo! It's me J.P or one armed mcgee now. I like doing magic tricks, computer programing, and watching old war documentaries in my spare time." J.P introduced now speaking of his one armed status good naturedly and jokingly.
"In fact I want to be a game designer or computer programming for my future career" J.P announced earning smiles from Izzy, Ken, and Henry.
"My dad owns an auto shop and my mother works part time at an electrical plant. Like Zoe I also have no siblings, although I consider Tommy my honorary one. Finally I will say that similar to Tommy I had trouble making friends in school until after my first adventure. Heck I use to bribe people with chocolate to be my friend" J.P admitted laughing along with Tommy who was now completely smiling again.
"Also one more fun fact…heh despite being the warrior of Thunder…I'm actually deathly afraid of it" J.P confessed a blush on his face.
Jaws dropped at the admittance.
"Wait, wait, wait, bub you're the warrior of thunder...and you're scared of it?" Impmon pointed out snickering.
"Yeah, yeah the world is cruel mistress, and I'm her idea of a sick joke. But I'm telling the truth. I freakin' HATE the noise of thunder" J.P said shuddering.
Impmon burst out laughing.
"That's tha funniest thing I've EVER heard!" Impmon shouted in glee.
"Hahaha yeah, yeah laugh it up pal. I'll see how much you keep laughing if I send an electrical discharge your way" J.P halfheartedly warning with a smirk on his face.
Impmon's laughs quieted down, but didn't quite disappear. Matt even had to admit he had to stop himself from laughing as well. Because it did seem like the universe played a joke on J.P with making him the warrior of thunder.
Finally it was down to Umi.
Matt and the others turned their attention to the girl after J.P and Impmon's quick banter.
Umi was shaking slightly with wide eyes, and appeared to almost be scratching herself. Matt's never seen the normally brazen girl so nervous.
Zoe prodded Umi in the shoulder slightly before placing her hand on Umi's shoulder to calm the girl down.
It appeared to work as Umi stopped shaking and letting out a deep shaky breath.
"Ummm…Hi I'm Umi. M-my parents are both are pretty well known marine biologist, and I'm an amateur surf boarder back home. I also do skate boarding in my spare time as well." Umi started out stuttering before growing more confident.
"Uh…I have one half-brother Roku. He's two years old and he's the sweetest little guy…" Umi said staring into the sky smiling.
"Oh so you have a step parent like Koji or Jeri?" Yolei butted in.
"…" Umi paused for a good long minute before talking.
"…No….." Umi said quietly.
The little toddlers just looked confused, but the older kids instantly got the ramifications of her answer. Yolei went pale and Matt felt his insides go slightly cold.
"Let's just say my mother…got sick of my father for a while and went to find another guy to make her feel better" Umi explained so that the toddlers can possibly follow along, although she was unable to stop the sheer cold and bitterness in her voice.
"However she didn't expect my brother to come out it…and let's just say if my parent's didn't care about personal outward appearances they would've separated like Koji and Koichi's parents three years ago…" Umi finished sighing sadly.
"My father knows….Roku isn't…well anyway that aside…things got a bit crazy and I got kicked out of school for a year… so I don't really do school…" Umi admitted sounding very ashamed.
"Plus…things at my home aren't the greatest both of…my parents fight a bit more than usual nowadays…and Roku and I tend to be forgot-left to our own devices often…so I usually take Roku with me when I would go to Zoe's house." Umi said clasping her hands together.
Matt swallowed deeply this story was going places he really didn't like…
It seemed that so far, Umi's personal demons are succumbed from her home life.
"So I like J.P with Tommy I consider Zoe my honorary sister. I mean we already tease the hell out of each other, and Roku just loves Zoe and her parents. Plus her parents remind of…they're super nice." Umi said smiling towards Zoe who offered a concerned and wary smile back.
"I can't say anything good besides meeting my friends came from my first adventure, if anything things have gotten a bit worse. Honestly I don't know how this makes me sound…but I can't stand being around my mother or father for too long." Umi admitted growling under her breath.
"That and I try to keep Roku away from father, because one day I honestly fear I'll come home and Roku...Roku…won't be there…I know my dad will give Roku awa-to someone else to play with if given the chance…." Umi said catching herself not wanting to upset the toddlers with the truth.
"Would her father really give her baby brother away?!" Matt thought horrified. Although from Umi's description of her parents the idea doesn't seem too farfetched. In face her parents seemed so arrogant Matt felt himself getting angry for Umi.
"So...uhhh…that's me…" Umi finished awkwardly before looking at all the shocked looks around her. She had to admit she felt a bit better talking about it, but it certainly didn't help her nerves any.
Not even really realizing what she was doing, Umi reached into her back pocket and pulled out something that surprised nearly everyone.
She pulled out a cigarette case and lighter. Then in an almost rhythmic pattern, Umi took out one cigarette, lit it, put it up to her mouth and proceeded to smoke it unabashed. She took big, gulping almost panicked breaths. Before breathing the smoke out of her nose.
However smoking must've had the desired effect because she immediately started to calm down.
The warriors watched her with mixed views of sympathy and annoyance, while everyone else Matt included just watched her in shock.
Suddenly it became exceeding obvious to most what she probably got expelled from school for.
Umi was breathing deeply looking out into the sea ignoring everyone else around her. Including Zoe who had started to scold her.
"Damn it Umi! I thought you said you stopped smoking!" Zoe hissed unhappily poking her with her walking cane.
"I tried Zoe, but everything just came crashing down. Plus I need my calming agent, because the sea is restless…" Umi said cryptically pointing out to the ocean. Then she let out a loud shaky laugh before getting up and pacing the beach still smoking.
That action confused Matt but on top of everything else he just heard, he didn't dwell on it.
After Umi's harrowing confession everyone just wanted to turn in for the night. Most of the group entered into a fruitless sleep. Either they were still too bothered by Umi's actions and story, or the other stories were all making them homesick.
Matt himself dreamed of home, his band, his parents, and even of Mimi. Before curling into a deep almost restless slumber.
However after breakfast when the morning came, Matt questioned if he reiceved enough sleep, because he swore as he looked outwards to the ocean.
That an entire island was coming their way…
Author's Note IMPORTANT PLEASE READ!: So there's another info chapter, although I hope I kept it interesting for all of you guys! BTW Thanks to the new reviewer JapanRules555 for going back and reviewing multiple chapters I really appreciated that!
So now we really got into the meat of some of the warriors past huh? I have to say this was another one of my favorite chapters to write. I like writing emotional and sentimental scenes. Plus it good to note this chapter deals with friendship, originally I think I had Davis the POV for this chapter, but in the end it felt WAY more appropriate to give it to Matt.
The original Crest of Friendship owner! I hope I captured his good side really well in this chapter!
Now in regards to warriors backstories. I honestly didn't change very much with the cannon characters. Takuya, Tommy, Zoe and J.P's backstories remain virtually unchanged. I saw no reason to do so. Now of course the same can't be said for their post adventure lives, but that comes up again later.
Plus I left hints about it anyway with J.P, and Zoe. Zoe's pre adventure backstory also is no different by the way. I pretty much wrote it beat for beat.
So as of now Zoe, J.P, Takuya and Tommy were COMPLETELY honest with their stories. They have nothing more to hide, with their pre-adventure backstories. Because fun fact J.P canonically really is scared of Thunder! I did NOT make that up, and I think its genius!
Now in the case of Umi, Koji, and Koichi…
Now Koji and Koichi obviously did omit aspects from their story, because after all "rocky" really doesn't scarp the surface of the two's first meeting in the digital world *cough Duskmon*…however as with everything else, everyone else will find out the FULL truth later.
Also their backstories are slightly altered as I have Koji practicing Karate. Something NOT mentioned in the actual season four. Although they made it exceedingly obvious Koji knew some form of martial arts! I really don't know why they didn't just give him one!
Also Koichi being an artist in his spare time is also something I added. Simply because Koichi being an artist for some reason is totally something I could see him doing. Also I have another headcannon for Koichi being that…
Once again for reasons I can't really explain I totally see Koichi possibly being gay…not sure if I'll insert that particular head cannon of mine in the story, but if enough people in the comments thinks it's fine I might do it. But don't worry that if I do that. That doesn't mean Koichi's going to fall in love with T.K or something, he'll just eventually come out and admit to everyone about his preference is all.
But only if people really wanna see that happen. Otherwise I just sat here and told you all a silly head cannon of mine….
Anyway while the parental backstory is unchanged with both of them, I will say for a LONG time I considered killing their birth mother off with sickness, and having Koichi either become a street urchin or move in with Koji's family.
Because the cannon show did state that the birth mother was frail and sickly so that could've easily happened, but in the end it felt a bit too melodramatic.
Speaking of melodramatic…
Before any calls me on Umi's backstory to be *Mary Sueish* I feel I should explain it a bit. For one I didn't give Umi this backstory only for sympathy purposes. For instance if you go back and read my description of her in the earlier chapters, this easily explains some of her current and past behaviors.
Such as her snarky comebacks, and use of cold logic. Also this can explain her original hinted dislike of Zoe during their previous adventure, and how she laughs when tending to be uncomfortable as if too decrease tension…like say with her parents?
See where I'm going with this?
Also to get a bit personal here. Umi's backstory is actual based off of one of my cousins. This actually happened to her somewhat. Although her situation was reversed and it was the dad that cheated, and only stayed with her mom for money. Then the mom stayed with her dad virtually for the same reason Umi's parents stay together. To make it look like nothing was wrong…
Plus my cousin also turned to smoking as a sort of calming agent and escape as well. But nowadays thankfully she's been doing MUCH better for herself, and everyone in the family is quite proud!
So Umi's backstory is also based half off of real life experiences. Although my cousin didn't have a little brother, that particular tidbit is inspiration for one of my favorite shows.
The show was called Moral Orel. I don't know if any of my watchers know what is was but as of now Moral Orel was cancelled about four whole years ago. It was one of the most beautiful, dark, and depressing shows I've ever seen on television.
I HIGHLY recommend it! But be warned despite it being done with puppet and clay animation it is NOT for kids or the weary heartened especially the last season. Season 3, which was my personal favorite because that's when things got really serious! Episodes aren't too hard to find, but I don't think that are many of them on Youtube.
Anyway I'm just going to say I got the idea of the little brother from a cheating relationship from that show, as the main character of that had a half-brother from his mother cheating as well.
So that's it for this chapter I know I promised to put the new and improved rookie move sets for certain digimon in this author's note, but ehhhhh…..I promise I'll do it on the next chapter.
FUSAOKAIRI OUT! PLEASE READ AND REVIEW!
