It seemed that Maggie drove on for hours: increasing the speed of the vehicle every time she thought she might lose sight of the car they were following. Tara's hands were clenched into tight fists, her eyes widened with fear as she prayed to God that they wouldn't crash. She had never seen Maggie this determined before, and her carelessness about the way she was driving was becoming concerning to Tara.

"Maggie, slow down!" Tara cried, her voice trembling as she gripped onto the edges of her seat. "Christ, you're gonna get us killed!"

"Shut up," Maggie demanded calmly, her eyes staring intensely at the car in front of them that was slowly disappearing into the dark, causing Maggie to go faster yet again. "They got Beth an' m'not stoppin' til' I find out where the hell they brought her."

"Maggie, please," Tara begged, inhaling sharply and flying forwards; nearly hitting her forehead against the dashboard as Maggie slammed down on the brakes. "Maggie… what the hell?" But as Tara looked out of the windshield, she understood why Maggie had stopped so suddenly: the car they were following seemed to notice that they were being followed, and stopped, two men wearing police uniforms stepping out with their guns drawn.

"Shit," Maggie muttered, slumping down in her seat as she grabbed Tara's shoulder firmly with one hand, forcing her to slump down as well so that they weren't seen.

They waited in complete silence for a few minutes before Tara risked a glance out of the windshield, watching as the two men filed back into their car, turning the nearest corner. She gestured with one hand for Maggie to sit up again as she did so herself, immediately slapping Maggie's arm with enough force to leave a large red mark on her skin.

Maggie's eyes widened in confusion as she sat back up, one hand rubbing at the stinging sensation Tara left on her arm. "What was that for?" she demanded.

"So you'll calm down, Maggie," Tara replied, her jaw clenching with anger. "Christ, I know you wanna get your sister back, but it'd be nice if you didn't get us both killed beforehand."

"Sorry…" Maggie murmured, lowering her hand from the red mark as her gaze scanned their surroundings. "We know which way they went… we should leave the car an' walk after 'em. We'll be harder t'spot."

"I dunno if that's a good idea, Maggie…" Tara replied with hesitance, but she gave in to the idea as soon as she caught sight of the desperate look on Maggie's face. "Okay… fine. But you're gonna be smart about this: no more craziness," Tara stated, clearly referring to the reckless way that Maggie had been driving. "You're gonna stay behind me and follow my lead, got it?"

"Okay," Maggie whispered in agreement, nodding her head.

"Okay…" Tara repeated back, reaching one hand over to cup the side of Maggie's face before she leaned in, pressing her lips to Maggie's in a gentle kiss that lingered for a brief moment. "Now let's go get your sister back."

The corners of Maggie's mouth lifted into an eager smile as she nodded her head with enthusiasm, returning a quick and gentle kiss to Tara's lips before she pushed the driver's side door open and practically jumped onto the pavement.

Tara followed suit, meeting Maggie at the front of the car as both women pulled their knives from their belts: the only protection that they had.

Tara began jogging at a slower pace in the direction that the car had sped off in, turning her head back every few minutes to make sure that Maggie remained in her wake. "Keep up," she teased Maggie as she kept her head turned to face her girlfriend, running straight into what she at first thought was a wall.

Tara staggered backwards, Maggie coming to a halt as well as she caught Tara by the waist, steadying her. The dark night sky was now slowly fading into the dim light of early morning, and both women could see the faint outline of the boy that Tara had bumped into.

"I'm not gonna hurt you," the boy assured Maggie and Tara as he caught sight of the scared looks on their faces: raising his hands up in the air to show that he had no weapons. "I'm just trying to get out of here… I escaped that damn hospital yesterday and they haven't caught me yet."

"Hospital?" Maggie questioned the boy, making a possible connection between that and the white cross that had been painted on the back windshield of the car they spotted. "D-did you see a girl there? With blonde hair?"

The boy's face twisted with confusion as to why Maggie was asking him this but he nodded in response, pausing a moment before asking, "Beth?" Seeing the look of recognition register on Maggie's face, the boy continued. "You… you know her?"

Maggie nodded eagerly, stepping in front of Tara to get closer to the boy. "Sh-she's my sister!" Maggie announced impatiently as she became more desperate. "Where is she?!"

"Calm down," the boy suggested, taking a step back. "She's okay. She helped me get out, but she's still back at the hospital… I can take you there," the boy extended his hand towards Maggie. "Name's Noah."

"Maggie," Maggie responded as she loosely took ahold of Noah's outstretched hand, looking back at Tara for a brief second. "That's Tara… Please, take me t'my sister."

"Right this way," Noah replied with a smirk as he gestured behind himself, turning in the opposite direction as he allowed an eager Maggie to take the lead of the group. "It's Grady Memorial," he called back to Tara to inform her, as Maggie had broken into a steady run, focused on nothing else except for getting to the hospital and getting her sister back.

In fact, Maggie had gotten so focused on that task that she didn't even notice the car coming at her… not until it was too late.

Tara's heart sunk in her chest and her eyes widened, filling with tears as she heard the thump of the vehicle as it collided with Maggie's body, throwing her onto the hood of the car before her motionless body rolled onto the pavement; seemingly lifeless.

"MAGGIE!" Tara screamed at the top of her lungs as hot tears streamed down her cheeks: frozen in place with horror, she was unable to move.
