Chapter 34
Zed shot up straight with wide eyes. He regretted it immediately as a headache hit him hard. He fell back down on the bed and moaned silently at his own stupidity for last night. Really, what was Naruto thinking leaving him alone with three women? What was he expecting to happen? Nothing? Zed was getting drunk. Ahri was getting drunk. How could this not happen? Why did this happen?
Zed looked over to his left and saw his mistake in all its pristine form. Her tails were wrapped around his left leg and part of his stomach while the rest were used to as a blanket over her naked body. Her hair was undone, ending in pools on the pillow. Ahri had slept with him in the truest of fashions. Zed hadn't meant for anything to come of it. He had been drunk. They had both been drunk. And then she came on to him. She said she wanted something from him. With Akali passed out from drinking too much and Karma wanting to take a nap, it was the only real outcome to happen.
They had sex.
Ahri was not what he was expecting. If his memories about last night were right, which he doubted they were, Ahri wasn't playful about what she wanted. Either it was because she was drunk or it was her nature, but she was shy about what she wanted. She wanted to make sure that what she did was right. Zed had enjoyed every minute of it. And if his memories were also right about it, which he also thought was wrong, she enjoyed it as well.
Grumbling to himself, Zed uncoiled himself her tails and marched to the bathroom. Akali was passed out in it with a puddle of vomit next to her face. She almost got to the toilet. Grumbling, he hauled her out and put her by the bar. He went to the bathroom, cleaned up, grabbed a mop and cleaned up the mess. His face was twisted into a look of disgust when he spied Akali was vomit covering her top. He didn't want to strip her or wake her for fear of being stabbed. How did she not wake up to him hauling her out of the bathroom by her foot?
He decided to not question his fortune and started making breakfast. He was going to be a man about this and torture everyone else as he started making the greasiest thing he could think of: Bacon and eggs. It wasn't five minutes later after he finished the first batch of bacon that he saw movement out of the corner of his eye. Akali was up and back at the bathroom. Her heard her vomit and chuckled evilly at her pain. It was good to be him right now. He already had a high tolerance for this stuff.
Akali came out whipping a trail of green slim from her mouth on the back of her hand. She looked at the food and then to him. Her eyes were bloodshot.
"Sleep well?" he asked sarcastically.
In her groggy and hung over state she gave him the finger as she buried her head in the crook of her arm. "Fuck you," she said with a dry heave. She gasped for air and looked up at him. He looked pristine as ever. Like he hadn't gotten blackout drunk or anything. Lucky bastard. "Why are you making that?" she asked tiredly. She was hung over, tired, could hardly see out of her left eye, and smelt like the inside of an asshole. If Zed attacked her now, she didn't care.
"I'm a sadist," he told her plainly. The soft tapping of feet drew their attention. Ahri walked in with a yawn and wearing her usual clothing. Their eyes locked and for a moment Zed wondered if she was going to kill him. She blinked and sat down on a stool and looked out the window. The silence was terrifying. Akali glanced between them and snorted. "Shut up," he snapped. He shoved a plate of eggs and bacon to her. Akali ran for the bathroom again. Ahri took it and started eating. "You get drunk a lot or something?" he asked her.
Ahri swallowed a large piece of bacon before answering. "You spend enough time with Jax and Naruto and you get used to it." She wolfed down an egg and then looked at Zed with a dark glare. "My butt hurts," she told him. Zed looked away, whistling as he cooked. "If I get pregnant because of you, I'm going to skin you and then throw you at Naruto." She finished her plate and flung it at his head. It shattered on impact and he could only sigh. Well, it was better to get that out of the way now before… "Naruto! Zed and I fucked last night! I might be pregnant!" …she went and did something stupid.
Akali stumbled out of the bathroom wide eyed and looking at Zed. The Master of Shadow had a scowl on his face. Akali was about to say something when Naruto's voice cut through the building. "Good job, Zed!"
"Naruto!" Ahri practically whined. "Be a big brother or something! This is the closest you'll get!"
And then Zed felt at ease.
Naruto, Syndra, and Karma all walked into the kitchen, the two women sporting terrible hang overs while the whisker faced blond had already fully recovered. Damn Kyuubi! "What do you want me to do about it?" Naruto asked playfully.
Ahri stomped her foot, the playful grin never leaving her face. "Be a big brother to me! Threaten to break his legs and marry me if I get pregnant out of this!"
Naruto gave Zed his best big brother face, which didn't amount to much at the moment. Zed went back to cooking. "Zed, if she gets pregnant you're taking responsibility."
"Okay," he replied as though he were talking about the weather.
Ahri stomped her foot again and turned to the only other woman that might know her plight. "Throw him off the temple," she demanded. Syndra looked confused by the statement. Naruto started chuckling. "Be a good big sister and throw him off the temple!" Ahri started laughing. Syndra remained puzzled by it all.
"She's just messing with you, Syndra." Karma told her. Syndra nodded like she understood. Maybe she did. She was still not used to dealing with other women just yet. "Jokes aside for the moment. Zed, if she is pregnant, you will take responsibility."
"That means you have to let me into the capital to take care of her," he warned. Akali's face fell. It was all fun and games until he said that. Where was a hanger when you needed one? "Besides, she said she wasn't fertile last night. Not like I gave her my seed anyways."
"Doesn't change the fact that I could still end up pregnant," Ahri told him with a pout. "I'm a woman and you have ruined my purity."
"What 'purity'?" Akali asked. Ahri glared at her in reply. Akali waved her glare off and looked at the plate that Zed shoved in her face. "I'm not eating this. I will throw up."
"Quit being a bitch and eat it."
Akali took the plate with a scowl. She was going to kill him before the day was out.
Naruto sat down and grabbed some of the food for Gnar and Konohamaru as they strolled in from outside. "So I have to go to the Institute today to have the seal looked at." Naruto decided that now was the best time. Everyone present knew about it. It was time to face the music. "The seal is getting to the point that it's almost broken." Naruto pulled his shirt up. He forced chakra threw his system. The seal appeared and Karma chewed on her lower lip. It was thinner the last time she had seen it. Now it was almost giant black spot on his stomach. "If this keeps up it's going to break and I need it fixed now."
"So you think Relivash has a way of doing it?" Ahri asked. She wasn't playing anymore. She was seriously worried for him.
"I hope so. He said to give him a few days and show up by the end of the week. So that deadline is here." Naruto glanced at Karma and said, "I want you to be there for this. You and Syndra both. If something goes wrong, you can at least help stop it in some way. I know you can."
"What about me?" Zed questioned. Gnar jumped up on the counter and snatched up some bacon. Zed regarded him with a scowl. "My people could help contain it."
"No, this is something different than what this world has experienced. I don't want to risk anyone dying because of this. Well… at least people I care about." Naruto sighed and looked at the food. Gnar was about to grab some of it. Naruto handed the bacon off but kept the eggs. "If Relivash has a way of suppressing it even further, he said it might be dangerous. He needed to grab a few more people for it before he could proceed with it. It's supposed to be some sort of a giant array that they're going to put over the original one I have. After that there will be nothing else."
"I can start looking for something else to help you," Karma supplied. "With Syndra now allowing me access to the temple, I'm sure we have plenty of books on sealing arts. We can take a look at the seal and come up with a new way to altering it. This should buy us more time as well if the worst comes to pass."
"If the worst comes to past, you're all dead." Naruto put his hands on his face as he tried to ignore the mocking laugh of Kyuubi in the back of his mind. There had to be a way to stop him and strengthen the seal. But it was beyond Naruto at the moment. The array on him was too complex for him. If Jiraiya was still here he could do something about it. Naruto sighed and got to his feet. "I'll go get some of our things packed. Karma, do you need anything special or just the usual stuff?"
"Usual stuff."
"He packs for you?" Syndra asked curiously.
"His scrolls are mighty handy," she confessed.
It was a short time later after everyone was geared up and ready to go that they jumped on the boat that would take them to the mainland. From there they walked until they reached the Institute. Naruto didn't say a single word as he marched through the halls of the Institute before coming up on Relivash's office. The doors were flung open before he could knock on them. Syndra floated back a bit while Karma arched a brow. Zed was off with Ahri doing a match already. Not even five minute at the place and she got summoned for a match.
Kayle floated out with Morgan gracefully following her with a dark smile. She regarded the three with a curious glance before the command of her agitate sister beckoned her to follow. They only got this way when they had a match together.
Naruto walked in with the two following him in. Relivash was rubbing his temples as he finished sucking down a strong drink. It wasn't even past noon yet and he was being forced to drink. Today might have been a hard one for him so far. It was only going to get worse now.
"I'd say you're late, but we'd have pushed it back." Relivash got up and looked to the two women. "Why are you two in my office?" he asked bluntly.
"I'm dating Syndra and I introduced Karma to her." Naruto wasn't really making a joke about it, but it came out as one. Relivash wasn't amused, but he didn't care about it either. "So is this plan of yours ready? I'm sort of getting a little worried about my problem."
"They're ready. I just need to get them now. I told him them not to leave today and that you were on your way. I just didn't know what time you'd show up." He sent a messenger out to fetch the people he needed. "Look," he began, taking wide steps towards the blond, "this is a dangerous process. If we slip up even a little bit, you could die. Normally I'd be against this, but if we don't do this…" He let it hang there. Death was the other option as well for this. They didn't stop it, it got out. If Naruto died, it got out. It was really a lose-lose situation at this point. "I just want you to be aware of that."
"Everything is gonna be fine." Naruto put a reassuring hand on the mans' shoulder. He smiled at him. "You got this. If you don't," Naruto shrugged and looked to the two women in the room, "we're fucked either way. The seal is breaking apart and I'm starting to have visions of my own death. As fun as that sounds, I like living as much as the next guy. Well unless you're Karthus, than you just don't give a shit. But he doesn't count."
"I don't share your sentiment for that, but I do agree that we need to get this done." Relivash turned to Karma and looked worryingly towards her. "I want you to understand that this might seriously kill him. I know he's tough, but what I'm going to do is more than just try to seal away the creature in him, I'm tampering with the seal and his life force at the same time." Karma nodded in understanding. It was lost on Syndra. "I just want you to be aware of that." The messenger returned and gave a nod. He turned to Naruto. "Any final words you wanna say to them, say them now. You can use my office." He exited and shut the doors.
Syndra flung herself at Naruto and wrapped him up in her arms. "You can't die here. You have to come back to me."
"I will." Naruto stroked her hair and smiled at Karma. "You're worrying about nothing. Both of you. Nothing bad is going to happen out of this." Naruto saw movement out of the corner of his eye and once more saw the flash of a white fox and a black fox. They were gone before he could fully see them. He shuddered slightly and kissed Syndra passionately. "I will be back for you. I promise." He let her go and hugged Karma. "Take care of Ahri for me while I'm out. Make sure she doesn't get with Zed. As much as I like the guy, he's not very good with the ladies and he's not someone I approve of for Ahri."
"Now who sounds like they're not coming back?" Naruto gave her a soft smile. She nodded. "Don't worry about it. I'll make sure Zed knows his place. If Ahri goes after him though…" She let it hang there. Naruto nodded and left with a sad smile. If death was coming for him tonight, he wasn't going to go down easy.

"So where are we?"
Ashe had been very patient with Kohaku. After getting the full details on the Dreamer, Sophia, Saito, First Born Warden and the Warrior of Eternity, she came to one conclusion: They had to die. She would be no ones' pawn. Ashe was Queen of Freljord and deserved to be called as such. Her defeat at Sophia's hand and the removal of her arm left a bitter taste in the back out of her throat that she could not wash down without the taste of victory over them. Her desire to end them brought her with Kohaku and Diana as they returned to the one spot Kohaku feared the most.
His homeland.
The First Born Warden was a cruel and tempting mistress, but she was also very kind and free spirited. If her brother wasn't as cruel and unforgiving as he was, she would be happier and spend more time in their world living the life of a normal woman that she was so terrible robed of. Despite all her power, all her words, she was a woman at heart and one that learned to love completely. She had someone in her life once, but that person rejected her out of fear for unknown reasons that seemed only known to the Warrior of Eternity.
But even with all of that she still had one flaw: She was sentimental. She never left her original home, despite many protests that she had. The reality of the world was that she had never left; something Kohaku had put money originally. He had gone to all other known locations her breaches had happened at in the past and turned up nothing. This was the last spot she could be.
"We're at my hold village," he replied.
Tryndamere grunted as he looked around. They were in Ionia, but it was an uninhabited island. Restless spirits kept everyone from coming here to settle on it, or so the story went. People who first came to this land after the destruction of the Order of Eternity went missing overnight. People who came to investigate said they saw specters moving around in the corner of their eye. One person claimed to have seen their death and their birth all in one second. The stories grew darker until one team came to the island to try and settle on it. Only person came back alive and the story he told made the island what it was today. No one dared to come to the island anymore.
Diana and Ashe looked around in a worried state when they started hearing whispers in the wind. Tryndamere hefted his blade on his shoulder in preparation for a fight. "Stow your blade," Kohaku ordered. "You're mortal blade won't taste their specter flesh." The Barbarian King seemed unwilling to do so.
They walked for hours in silence. Diana's only complaint in all of this was that they traveled with the sun. She would have been just as happy traveling with the moon and they would have if it wasn't for Ashe's fear of night attacks while they traveled. In either case they'd be taking a risk, but Kohaku was gifted with a certain level of tact that prevented him from explaining key details to anyone about his abilities. It was a terrible and horrible truth about him that only Diana seemed to catch on to.
"We're here," Kohaku said dangerously. He summoned his blades. The others got ready for a fight as well. The world shattered like glass and the First Born Warden emerged. Gone was her armor, replaced with a simple set of robes. Her weapon was missing. Without the armor it was far easier to tell she was a woman. "First Born Warden," he greeted coldly.
She smiled playful towards him. She reached out to him and slashed her hand to the side. From their distance it was clearly a gesture of some kind. There was a scream that drew Kohaku's gaze behind him. The three that were with him fell into a void world. His eyes burned like fire as he turned back to her. She was closer than he had expected and was suddenly on him with one hand pressed against his chest. Her magic disarmed his weapons and returned them to the light and shadows from where they came. Her free hand cupped his cheek and she brought her lips forward for a passionate kiss. Kohaku raged inside his mind as he fought with all his might to break the kiss before he felt something form between their mouths.
She pulled back holding a white piece of bread. Kohaku paused in thought to the sight of it before he remembered what it was. He jerked forward to bite it from her but she devoured it with a smile. "I've always wanted to have one of those," she purred. She snapped her fingers as she pulled away from him and the two fell into the same void hole she had sent the others through. Kohaku lost track of time as they fell. When they hit the ground, the other three were there looking dazed and confused. "Welcome to my home," she said cheerfully.
Ashe fired an arrow at her. Diplomacy was currently out the door on this one.
The arrow never left her bow. It dropped like a stone and produced no sound in the void world they were in.
Making a scolding noise, she stalked towards them and tapped Ashe lightly on the nose like a parent scolding a child. "You shouldn't do such terrible things, little one. It's not nice." She picked up the arrow and placed it back on her hand. Ashe looked confused and tried to make words but nothing came out. She was startled and looked up Kohaku in fear as he glared at the back of his peoples' greatest warrior. "All of you are guests meant to watch the rebirth of Maria's caretaker. You don't wanna miss it."
Ashe found her voice as the world shifted. She stood upon a blackness that was neither floor nor ground. Her legs threatened to buckle under the logic lock of her mind as she processed what was reality and what wasn't. Stars flew by in beneath her feet and by her form. A sun burned brightly in distance, illuminating large spheres of reds and blues and green and whites. Wherever they were, it was clearly not Runeterra.
Diana marveled at the beauty of what she saw. It was awe inspiring. Breathtakingly beautiful and a sight she burned into her mind. Looking at the stars would never amount to the beauty of this. Not again. Never again would she look up and stare happily at them. Her mind would return to this and she would forever live in shame to not see it again.
"Why did you bring us here?" Ashe demanded. The First Born Warden waved her hand and a thrown of gold and black appeared. She sat down as the sun grew closer to them. It did not blind them nor warm them.
"It's as I said," she began like she was repeating a line from a book for a teacher, "I brought you here to watch the rebirth of Maria's caretaker."
"And who is this caretaker?" Tryndamere demanded. His chest heaved when her gaze shifted on him. Her eyes were cold and unforgiving.
"For someone who demands something of me, you must first assume you are above me." She wrinkled her noise and her eyes were full of darkness. The sun became black and all the stars burned out. "You assume that you are stronger than me, Undying King. Your power is great, I will admit, but compared to me, you are nothing but a child wielding a stick in the fields. You cut down mighty humans and terrible demons. But what you fight are also children to me. I fight Gods. I slay demons with powers so vastly outmatching you that a mere glance from them can shatter worlds." She rose and stalked towards him. Black energy wove itself through the darkness, restoring the sun and illuminating her form to him. "I could crush you right now, but you serve a purpose later on. Your power, and that of your mortal enemy, shall be needed. After that you have my brothers' permission to die."
Tryndamere hefted his sword and swung for her neck. His weapon didn't scratch her. She didn't move. She simply smiled.
"To face her you must courage that runs as deep as despair," Kohaku hissed. He removed the blade and glared at Tryndamere. "While I share his desire to maim you, Warden, I do desire something now. I demand an answer." She nodded, restoring the rest of the stars with a nod as she stepped back. "Why are you still here in this place?"
She cracked a smile as her armor faded away. She clapped slowly and looked to the stars above. "Do you know how long I waited there for you? My brother told me something on the day of my birth. He said that I would be visited by the Weaver, a Child of the Moon, an Undying King, and an Ice Queen. He told me I simply needed to wait in this very spot until they came. And I foolishly promised to wait. I said I would wait for eternity if it came to it. So I waited. It wasn't until three thousand years later that I realized he'd tricked me. He never said when you four would show up." She paused and looked somewhat sad for a moment. "But you're coming here also heralds a great tragedy to come."
"What?" Ashe hissed, confused.
"My brother said that on the day you arrived, several months later a tragedy that must not be stopped will happen. I am sorry. I am so very very sorry for what must be done." She waved her hand and reality shattered above them. The image of a man appeared. Ashe was the first to recognize him. It was Zed. His mask was gone; his eyes held the look of sorrow and understanding, in his chest was a blood soaked hand. That hand was connected to Naruto's form. Naruto was dazed and confused by something, his eyes were unfocused and when they snapped to he screamed. She sealed the broken reality hole and closed her eyes. "This will come to pass. This mans' death brings about the beginning of the end."
"Why does he have to die?" Diana asked.
The First Born Warden looked ahead to something else. Her eyes became mystical pools of something more. "This man," she began softly, "is a man who is destined to die. Time has woven a cruel fate for all of us. It's one that even my brother can't escape. He has foreseen our deaths. He has seen our futures. There is nothing we can do but play the part. We march the tune of another in this game of life. No matter what you say. No matter what you do. You're actions are predetermined by the will of another. Free will is a myth. Religion is a joke. The only thing certain in life is death. Death is the true freedom we can ever hope to have. When you're dead… your existence isn't needed anymore."
The sun pulsed and a moon move up from behind her throne. Diana marveled as the moon came to a stop overhead. The sun pulsed again. The moon cracked.
"This is the beginning of the end, children. Now let us watch as the pieces are assembled for our glorious deaths."
The moon broke apart. The sun exploded. The stars brightened and all of creation in her world wept. An echo of screams sounded from everywhere and nowhere.

So this chapter is small because I didn't want to go into the next one just yet. There is a few things that are about to start kicking off that sort of go into the war with the Dreamer after the Journal of Justice is done. Funny that it took me this long to get to this point because it's all downhill from here. This is the start for where everything begins to deviate to how I want it. I'm still following the Journal of Justice up to the last few entries in it. For those that have read it, you know where that ended. I'm not doing the full ending that they did for it. It's different for this.
