Mitch POV
Ty sped down the highway as I stuffed in the far left seat in the last row of of his three row minivan (don't ask why he has a minivan. I made it that way). Jerome sat in the middle, and Carter to his right. Jason and Brooke were in the second row. Crystal settled in the passenger seat next to her boyfriend.
"How long is it gonna take?" I questioned, tired. Jerome yawned.
"I have no idea!" Ty yelled from the driver's spot.
Jason covered his ears, "Ty! Why do you gotta be so damn loud?!"
"Cause he can't hear me," Ty replied in a normal tone.
"Uh… yeah I can," I drowsily responded, slightly rolling my eyes.
Crystal perked up, "Don't hate on my baby! He has hearing issues!"
Jerome interrupted, "Ha! You wish Crys!"
"Only I call her Crys!" Ty burst.
He begun to glance back at Jerome, but Jason widened his eyes in fear and instantly stopped his friend, "Keep your eyes on the road!"
Ty panicked but maintained a tight grip on the steering wheel, "Sorry."
"Just don't yell at me next time and we could've skipped this whole thing," I told him. Ty spied me through his driver's on the windshield mirror and nodded.
Carter ended the awkward silence, "When we find Ray, the rest of the party's gonna be awesome!"
No one replied. Only silence. Carter sighed. "Well then. If none of you want to talk…"
Ty groaned and glared back at Carter, "Not really in the mood…"
"Ty!" Jason screamed, "Car!"
"What?!" Ty immediately looked back on the road to find a car zooming down the road. Ty's was on the other side of where they should've been!
Everyone else figured out what was happening and all screamed at the same time. At the last second, Ty spun around the wheel, avoiding a major crash. The other car stopped as well and their passengers jumped out, racing over to ours.
I noticed a boy with brown hair and big brown eyes followed by a girl who looked a lot like him. Preston and Ray! The love of my life and her brother!
"Get out! Get out!" I yelled, "It's Ray and Preston!"
Jason glanced out the window too, "Adam and… Mat?"
"What the heck is Mat doing here?" Brooke asked. I shrugged.
I leaping out of the car. Ray saw me, smiled, and ran into my arms. I gave her a kiss on the forehead.
"Where have you been?" I questioned.
"Oh… nowhere." Ray smirked, glancing back at Mat, who chuckled and shook his head.
"Were you with… him?" Confused, I peered over my wife's shoulder to find Mat in complete shock. He slowly backed up and chatted with Preston, occasionally nervously glaring over at me.
"Yeah…" Ray replied, "But he's good now. We were friends in middle school, and Mat remembered that. Ashley is the one we have to look out for now. She tried to shoot me."
My attention was so focused on Mat that I only realized what Ray said a few moments after she stopped talking.
"Wait! Ashley tried to shoot you?!" I held tight onto her thin arms.
"Yeah… but Adam persuaded her… the only thing that got hurt were my hands." Ray held out the palms of her hands to show deep red and black scratches. They looked like they hurt.
"You okay, biggums?" I sweetly queried, kissing one of her hands. Ray blushed and glanced down at her feet.
"I'm still not used to that," she laughed.
"You should be by now. We're married," I whispered. Ray giggled, showing off her creme colored teeth. I continued, "We should head back to the party."
"I've got a surprise for you when we get there," she said.
"Okay. Any hints beforehand?"
"Nope."
Ray POV
Preston jumped in with Ty and his group while Mitch drove with Adam, Fia, Mat, and I.
Within thirty minutes, the two groups became one once again at the location of the party. Mitch finally realized what I was wearing.
"Ray! You've got the girl version of my skin!" Mitch called out.
"No shit Sherlock," I groaned, a smirk on my face.
"So… what was that surprise?"
"You'll see." I ran up to the stage, grabbed a microphone stand with a mic on it, and brought the stand to the front of the stage. I took a deep breath.
"Sorry Fia," I begun, "You said Beautiful would work, but I've kinda found another song. I like this better cause you know… wedding day stuff."
Fia chuckled but nodded. I smiled.
I started singing, my hands wrapped around the microphone. I gazed at Mitch almost the whole time, occasionally glancing over at Preston, Fia, Jerome, Carter, and Caleb.
"There is freedom within
there is freedom without
Try to catch a deluge in a paper cup (Hope you recognize where this is from… it's mentioned later in the chapter)
There's a battle ahead
many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road
While you're traveling with me
Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win
Now I'm towing my car
there's a hole in the roof
my possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof
In the paper today
Tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the T.V. page
Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win
Now I'm walking again
To the beat of a drum
And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart
Only shadows ahead
barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of liberation and relief..."
Tears begun to stream down my face. I knew this song all too well. This was the theme to one of my favorite fanfictions (breaking the fourth wall). I read it before I met Mitch, and before I met Jerome, and even Adam, Ty, and Jason.
"Hey now, Hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, Hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
You know they won't win
Don't let them win"
There were enemies we faced before Mitch and I got married. There were enemies in high school… Luna was considered an enemy. Caleb was considered an enemy, so was Johnny (RIP). Ashley and Allison were still problems, but right then and there. Right at that moment when I belted out those last lines, the only thing I could think of was how happy I was, being with the love of my life, all my best friends, my brother, and the people I call my family.
"Hey now, Hey now
Hey now, Hey now
Hey now, Hey now
Don't let them win
They come, They come
Don't let them win
Hey now, Hey now
Hey now, Hey now!"
The guests erupted into applause as I concluded my song. Everyone came up to congratulate me on my singing. I only noticed Fia standing aside from the crowd, her eyes set on Adam, who was at my side. Although it was my wedding day, from that moment on, I was determined to make her life happy with Adam. It started with a song...
