Chapter 36: The "Date"
ROXAS POV
After Dad had left in a hurry Cloud, Sora, Xion, and I all endured an awkward brunch. I didn't know what made it weird exactly. It could have been anything from Sora's saddened day dreaming face to Xion's occasional glare in my direction, or Cloud's uncomfortable shuffling. After the food was eaten and the bill was payed I called for the limo.
"I think I'll catch a cab. I want to go to the store." Cloud said as he waved down a taxi.
"We can drop you off?" I offered.
"No no. It's fine. I'll see you guys later." Cloud got in the taxi and was off down the street as the limo pulled up.
The first few minutes of the ride felt tense, but I couldn't think of a reason why. I began to let my mind wander when I remembered I had to tell Namine what time time to meet me. I got out my phone and texted her.
Meet me 2nite at six at the gate. Can't wait
Once I looked up from my phone I once again caught Xion glaring at me. "Did I do something?" I asked cautiously.
"Don't you always." She scoffed.
"Huh? What did I do?"
"Nothing. Nothing at all."
That was obviously a lie and I was beginning to get annoyed with her childish game. "Just tell me. Do you really have to be so difficult?"
"Me? Difficult? You don't know the first thing about difficult."
"Then please educate me. I'm just trying to help you."
"I don't need your help. I need you out of my way." She huffed.
I took a second to think about what she was talking about, but drew blanks. "What are you talking about?"
"Like I said it's nothing. Just leave me alone."
I rolled my eyes then looked at Sora who just shrugged with a confused look. The limo stopped and we got out. I checked my phone for a reply from Namine, but there wasn't one.
"Xion can you tell Nam to text me."
"Oh! She wanted me tell you that-" She stopped suddenly then there was a weird look on her face.
"That what?"
"She excited for tonight. I'll tell her don't worry."
"Thanks…." I felt somewhat uneasy.
We split apart Xion heading to her dorm, Sora heading to the school buildings to clean, and me going back to the dorm. Once there I went straight to my room. I had yet to actually make reservations for the restaurant Namine and I were going to or get the Museum passes.
After handling the arrangements with some very rude people for a very long annoying time I had a few hours before I had planned to meet Namine. She still hadn't text me back though, so I tried calling her. I was sent to voicemail.
Meet me at the gate at 5
I sent her a text before getting in the shower and getting ready.
XION'S POV
After I had got to my dorm I started thinking about how to get away with my scheme. Just as I was approaching my room Namine came out of her's
"Did you tell him? Did he believe you?" She asked. I could see her worry and it made me so upset.
"Yep. He said to tell you the he hopes you feel better and that it was okay." I lied. Blatantly.
"Was it wrong to lie. What if he finds out?"
"Stop worrying. You're making yourself sick for real." She really was. She was very pale and her eyes were red from crying and lack of sleep. This was too much for her and it had to stop. "Come on." I said pushing her into her room gently yet forcefully.
"What?"
"You're going to get some sleep."
"I'm fine, Xion."
"No your not. Now lay down." She sighed, but laid down. I turned off the light and when I turned back to her she was already half asleep. Then I saw it. I knew how I'd get away with my plan. Namine's phone.
ROXAS'S POV
I was fully dressed after trying on many combinations of button downs, blazers, jeans, dress pants, jackets, and ties. But I'd finally got the right combination. It was about half an hour till I had to meet Namine yet still no text messages or calls. I didn't worry about it though. I headed to the gate and called Terra around with the limo.
"Well aren't you jazzed up." Terra teased.
"It's called class. A gentleman must look his best on a date."
"Oh? Who's the lucky guy?" He wasn't teasing me I could tell. Why did everyone think I was gay. I guess it was a fair assumption, but I hated labels.
"Girl. It's Namine."
"You two are still dating?"
"Trying too." I sighed.
"I wish you luck, but…" It looked like he was struggling to say something.
"But?"
"I've seen someone else looking at you. At least when I'm driving you. I think they want some of your attention."
"You mean Sora?"
"No forget about it. It's not my place to say anything anyway."
"Terra, that's annoying." I groaned.
"Just forget I said anything. Besides shouldn't she be here by now?"
I knew he was just avoiding further questioning, but he was right. Namine was ten minutes late.
R U on UR way?
I wait a while, but finally got a reply.
I misunderstood. Let's meet there?
U sure? I can wait.
No let's just meet at the place. Where is it?
K. It's The Grove. See you there
"She's going to meet me there. Let's go." I said with a sigh. So far nothing was going to plan.
XION'S POV
It was almost fun. I felt bad for doing this on the inside, but I was laughing on the outside. My poor brother would wait at that restaurant for hours. Maybe he'd break up with Namine for standing him up. If not it sure would add fuel to the fire.
ROXAS'S POV
Two. Hours.
I had been waiting two whole hours for her and I was ready to scream. I payed for my uneaten cold meal that I had to order to stay in the damned place the stormed out into the limo.
"How'd it go?" Terra asked when I got in.
"She...She…SHE STOOD ME UP!" I was so consumed with anger. She didn't answer any of my last twelve texts or five calls. She'd lied to me all because she didn't want to go out. All she had to say was she didn't want to. Not waste my time or money. Why was I even trying if she wasn't?
"I'm sorry."
"Just take me back to school."
Once I got to school I thought about going to find her and give her a piece of my mind, but I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and see if she'd have anything to say tomorrow. So I returned home to take a shower and sleep off some my anger before it became dangerous.
NAMINE'S POV
I woke up feeling a lot better than I had been. I felt refreshed and almost like myself. I was on my way to my first period class when someone stopped me in the hall. It was Roxas. He didn't look too happy or angry either. I was a bit scared though.
"Hey, Rox." I said with a smile.
"Hey?" He said giving me a strange look.
"So what's up?" I asked awkwardly.
"What's up? Really? You're not even going to try and make up an excuse. I'm really hurt Namine. I never thought you would do something like that." His eyes where fading between colors and it made me nervous.
"Huh? I don't understand."
"Don't act dumb Namine. That only makes it worse. Next time just tell me you don't want to out. You don't have to be so rude and mean. What hurts the most is you lied to me. I thought we had a deep trust. "
"Roxas w-w-what are you talking about. I'm sorry. I was just sick and I-"
"SICK!? More lies! If you were sick why wouldn't tell me? Stop lying Namine it's not like you and…" He let out a sigh and looked way from me.
"Ro-Roxas I-I-I-" I was falling apart and I felt tear s in my eyes.
"Namine I don't think I can be in a relationship if you lie to me and blatantly stand me up."
"What-What are you saying?"
He looked back at me and I knew what he was going to say. "I'm breaking up with you Namine."
It was glass. Glass fell and stabbed me. I felt it.
ROXAS'S POV
I entered the my creative writing class more calm than I had been most of the morning.
Xion walked in after I had sat down looking frantic. "Have you guys seen Namine? Nobody's seen her since before classes."
"She ran away after I broke up with her." I said with some residing anger.
"What?!" Xion, Kairi, Axel, and Zexion all exclaimed.
"Why?" Kairi asked.
"She stood me up, then lied to me. Worse of all she didn't even admit it when I talked to her this morning." I felt the anger growing inside me.
"That doesn't sound like Namine."Kairi said defensively
I didn't bother in a rebuttal.
RING!
Class began.
NAMINE'S POV
I really want to cry. I felt like if I cried then all the pain would be washed away with my tears, but I couldn't. I was sad and hurt, but not as sad as I had expected to be. I thought what bothered me the most was that he was so angry. I want the break up, but I still needed Roxas as my friend. We'd shared so much over the years. I loved him, and he hated me.
I sat in my room under my puffy white cover in the dark. Trying to sort out my emotions. I felt so lost and confused. When he said I my world seemed like it had shattered. I froze and ran in fear.
Now my world seemed more gray than broken. Like it needed a band-aid more than surgery. I questioned if I could make it through this.
"Namine?" There was a light tap at my door. Was that Xion? What time was it? 11:20. Schools wasn't over yet.
I got up and went to the door and opened it slightly. "Xion? Why are you here?"
"I heard what happened and I hadn't seen you. Are you okay?"
"No." I whimpered as I fell into her arms.
"I'm so sorry." She whispered as she led me to sit on my bed.
"It's not your fault. I just wish he wasn't so mad. I wanted to break up and all, but not like this."
"He'll get over it." She said running her fingers through my hair.
"I don't think so. He was really angry and I didn't know why. He kept yelling and calling me a liar." Thinking about it brought tears to my eyes.
"I'm really sorry. I didn't know he'd get so mad."
"You didn't know? What does that mean?" I said pulling away from her slightly.
"Nothing...Just I-I did something..."
"Like what?" I was now completely out of her grasp.
"Forget about it?"
"No. Tell me." I was becoming frustrated quickly.
"Don't worry about it. I gotta go. I'll be back later on." She got up and head towards the door, and just before she could leave I realized it.
"You did this!"
"What?!" She whipped around and I could see the guilt.
"You did this. I-I don't know how, but you did. What did you tell him? What did you do?"
"I didn't do anything."
"Xion, if you continue to lie to me…" I sighed. "We can't have a relationship ever if I can't trust you, and right now I can't."
"What does that even mean?"
"Take it as you want."
"Namine…"
"Just tell me!"
"Fine...Sit down." She said with a small gesture towards the bed. I complied with a huff. "I-I didn't mean for it happen like this. I didn't think he'd get so mad."
"What did you do?"
"I didn't tell him you were sick like you asked."
"Why not?"
"Then-"
"There's more?!"
"T-Then after you fell asleep I took your phone and sent him text messages as if you were getting ready to go on the date, so that he thought you stood him up."
"Xion… why?"
"I-I...I JUST WANT YOU FOR MYSELF! Is that so wrong? I've waited so long Namine. I just can't wait any longer. I love you. I love you so much, and I know you don't love me. We were so close and I just…. I fucked up. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." She was broken. Tears covered her face. Was this all my fault?
"Xion… I forgive you, and I'm sorry I've been so on the fence. I want to be with you I do, and I want to love you someday."
"You do?"
"Yes, but we have to start slow and you have to earn my trust. After this it's hard for me trust you and I mean that in the most caring way possible."
"I-I understand."
"We have to tell him the truth."
"Now?"
"No, all of us need time. Maybe him most of all."
ROXAS'S POV
The day was finally over. Now I had to go to detention. I headed towards the Library where detention was held. There was twelve other students. Some jocks that probably got in trouble for messing with some innocent kid. Some more libralistic looking student who were probably too liberal. Two blonds dressed from head to toe in glitter and pink who probably refused to change for gym class. There was one familiar face though. Marluxia. He sat in the back in his wheelchair looking through a magazine.
"Hey, Marly." I said as I sat down
"Oh, hey Rox." He said not really looking away from his magazine
"You got in trouble too?"
"Yeah. Kinda bogus. I mean I'm stuck in this chair for who knows how long. Sounds like punishment enough."
"Yeah…"
"What's wrong?"
"Huh?"
"You're upset."
"How'd you know?"
"Your face is forming wrinkles that will haunt you in twenty years."
"I broke up with Namine."
"Why?" He was the first person all day to not gasp when I said it. Instead he casually kept his eyes on magazine. Occasionally circling things.
"She stood me up, then lied about it to my face."
"Hmm… I thought she would have just broken up with you." He mumbled as he circled a pair of black boots.
"Huh?"
"She's a lesbian."
"No she's not." I almost laughed.
"Hmmm… maybe it's just Xion then."
"What?"
"They've been together for like a month." His casual tone was making me nervous.
"What?"
"Yeah since like homecoming. I thought you'd noticed. She probably stood you up so you'd break up with her."
"Your kidding right?"
"Nope." He said as he pulled another magazine out.
"Detention has begun! All device will be put away and not taken out until the bell or they will be taken to the principal! No talking! No passing notes!" Mrs. Ursula screeched from the front.
I had forty-five minutes to evaluate the information that I had received.
Hey lovely people. Sorry for being so slow. Things in my head kept changing this chapter, but I like how it came out, and I hope you do too. If you do like it let me know. If you don't let me know well till next time...
~BYE!
