A/N: Happy Holidays! Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday with family, friends and loved ones. Here is a little Riley and Beth for you to end your night on. For those of you that read Family Affair I think I might just do a chapter that includes Rick and Daryl heading out to the hospital and Riley at the church. I'm finding the chapters on Beth in the hospital and Daryl on the road a little hard to write but I'd love to hear your thoughts if you would like to see those scenes I can try my best to get it together for you all! Let me know!
Chapter Thirty-Six: Lies and Promises
"do you love me"
"that's a stupid question…"
"no it's not"
"yes it is cause you already know the answer"
"just humor me"
"yes I love you"
Beth smiled at Riley even though the girl wasn't looking she was too busy looking over a map that lay sprawled out on one of the tables
"then don't go" Beth spoke softly wrapping her arms around Riley's middle
Beth felt Riley tense for a moment before she relaxed her eyes only focused on the map as she circled a variety of places with a black marker
"can't do that…..but it don't mean I don't love ya"
Beth pushed her forehead into Riley's back "you can and you should…."
Beth felt Riley let out a breathe before she placed a hand over one of Beth's "I need to find him…."
"no you don't…."
Riley turned her body so that she was now facing Beth "I do….you know what he's capable of"
"I do…"
Riley bit her lip her eyes going to something over Beth's shoulder "I love you Beth" she spoke not looking at the girl. Beth knew what was happening and she needed to put a stop to it
"if you love me then don't go…"
Riley's eyes flew over to Beth's sky blue pair "Beth" Riley whispered. There was a moment of stillness before Riley slowly nodded her head "only you" she mumbled as she crashed her lips into hers "only you"
"hey Dixon, want to let Beth breathe for a minute and come on a run with me"
Riley pulled away only to see Beth's cheeks a bright shade of red. Looking over she watched as Glenn stood by the door smirking
"fuck you pizza boy….but yeah"
Riley leaned over kissing Beth on the corner of the mouth "see ya later"
Beth was busy at the countertop preparing dinner when the sound of the truck pulling up over the gravel was heard. She smiled to herself as she shook out a few cans of chicken broth. Riley always came back with some sort of gift for her, and it warmed her heart that even while out there in the most dangerous of situations Riley still thought of her. Her eyes turned as the door was pulled up to reveal Maggie who was waiting outside for her husband to return. Beth looked at Maggie the smile disappearing from her face at the look her sister held in her eyes. Beth's eyes drifted away from Maggie to watch as Glenn came in behind her rubbing the back of his neck his eyes trained on the floor
Beth dropped the cans the clang as they hit the steel countertop echoing in the stillness of the cell block
"where is she"
Glenn looked from Maggie to Beth before his eyes went to someone beyond Beth
"she's looking for him ain't she"
Beth closed her eyes as the sound of Daryl answering the question filled the room
"I'm sorry guys….she was talking about…" Glenn stopped talking his eyes flying back to Beth "and the next thing I knew she was saying something about Macon and she was gone"
Beth wiped her hands on the apron before pulling it off and dropping it to the floor, she turned locking eyes with Daryl before walking in the direction of her cell
Beth lay wide awake thoughts mulling through her head, was Riley dead…..was Riley bit….was Riley lost…..had Riley found the Governor…where was Riley…..Riley had lied….lied…lied. Beth pulled Riley's sweatshirt closer to her body the nights had gotten cooler which only added to Beth's already growing list of worries. She was pulled from her worse case scenarios' when a shadow blocked the dim light of the moon that stream into the cell. Raising her eyes Beth watched as Riley stood before her, her hands gripping the strap of her bow
"you lied to me" was the first thing Beth spoke out. She immediately lowered her eyes she was hoping to give Riley a bit of the silent treatment.
Riley slowly moved into the cell. Beth looked over at her waiting for her to say something….anything
"I didn't mean….I just….I needed to know"
Beth pushed herself up and out of the bunk "know what"
"know that he wasn't in our fucking backyard….fuck Beth you don't get it do you"
Beth bit her lip and took a step back "get what" she whispered
"that man…..he's still out there…..and you all think he's just going to forget about us well you're wrong…and the thought…."
Riley stopped and looked out of the cell before returning her eyes back to Beth
With a small chuckle Riley softly spoke "ain't the first time I lied to ya"
Beth's eyes filled with confusion
"when you asked me if I was scared…."
'Beth sat against the wall watching as Riley sharpened her hunting knife "are you scared" Riley looked up and cocked her head to the side "scared….scared of what" Beth stood and sat beside the girl removing the knife from her hand leaning over and placing it on the desk "scared of…of dying" Riley looked at Beth long and hard before replying "no". Beth lowered her eyes she knew Riley would say that; nothing scared the Dixon's it was kind of annoying; they just rolled with the punches, but growing up in the family they did she could understand why "I'm not scared of dying because of a Walker" Riley stated staring ahead "…it's the people the alive ones that scare me" Riley spoke making Beth's head snap back up "Walkers I can deal with, you know what to expect how to handle things how to adjust, adapt….people…people are too unpredictable" Riley stopped turning; Beth watched her for a moment before grabbing her hand "I'm scared" Beth whispered "not of me dying though..." Beth hesitated she knew that saying the next part would add extra meaning to their relationship and she didn't want Riley to carry that around every time she left the prison walls or Beth's sight "I don't know what I would do if…if…" Beth couldn't even finish the sentence before tears filled her eyes and she looked away from the girl. Beth heard Riley sigh before she reached over and turned Beth's face back to look at her; using her thumb she wiped away a stray tear before gently placing her lips over Beth's "I ain't going anywhere…can't die on you" she mumbled pulling away she whispered "I may not always be here but I'll always find you…I'm not going anywhere Beth…." Beth pulled away and wrapped her arms around Riley leaning her head on her shoulder and kissing the faint pink scar that sit on the girl's neck; she closed her eyes and took in her girlfriends scent 'I wish I could believe that' Beth thought before kissing Riley again "a Dixon always keeps their promises" she heard Riley mummer into her hair, Beth smiled wondering how Riley knew what she was thinking and let a soft sigh leave her lips'
Beth bit the inside of her cheek her eyes softening slightly but remained quiet if there was one thing she knew about the Dixons is was when they start to open up you shut up
"I ain't scared of the Walkers….people yeah some of them….but I can deal with that, deal with them….its you….you scare me"
Beth stared into Riley's blue eyes watching as millions of emotions…feeling….thoughts flashed through them
"if something were to happen to you….I…I need to make sure nothing takes you away from me….."
Riley pulled Beth into her body "I don't think I could come back from that"
Beth pulled away slightly and reached for the strap of the crossbow and gently lifted it off of Riley's body placing it against the wall "nothings gonna happen to me…I'm ours….here with you forever…."
Beth watched as Riley's eyes filled with worry "you can't promise that"
"didn't you know" Beth spoke pressing her lips into Riley's neck causing the girl to grip Beth's waist
"know what" Riley mumbled
Beth leaned up looking at Riley with a smirk as she moved her hands to Riley's belt
"that a Greene always keeps their promises"
