Life during a war

Chapter 36: Votes

Today is the day of the votes to decide who is going to be the leaders of each faction. It has been a week since we arrived home so I am now thirty three weeks pregnant.

Everyone between the ages of sixteen and fifty have to attend. That is a lot of people. It is being held in the place where the choosing ceremony is held and it starts at one o'clock.

At the moment Tobias and I are sitting on the sofa in the living room, watching some funny show on our TV.

The baby won't stop kicking my ribs. It's pretty painful.

He kicks again and I groan as I rub my stomach.

"Is little Oliver still kicking your ribs?" Tobias asks.

"Yeah, he's a pretty strong kid." I answer.

"He's Dauntless." He replies before lowering himself so he is face to face with my bump. "Hey Oliver, it's your daddy here. Can you please stop kicking your mummy really hard, it's hurting her and we have a really important thing to go to later so please be a good boy? We love you." Tobias kisses my bump before kissing my lips.

"You're going to be a great dad, you know." I tell him.

"You're going to be a great mum." He says before kissing me again.

We get interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Guys, it's time to go." Uriah yells through the door.

"We're coming." I yell back.

Tobias stands and holds his hands out so he can help me up. We walk out of the apartment, hand in hand and me waddling, and we journey, with our friends/family, to the building where we chose our lives.

We are all seated in the Dauntless section of the choosing ceremony room. We are in the front row because I'm heavily pregnant and can't make it up the stairs, we used the lifts unlike every other Dauntless. We are waiting for everyone to finish filing into the room. Johanna will be the person hosting.

It takes another fifteen minutes for everyone to arrive and get seated. Johanna is standing at the front, waiting patiently for the last few people to stop talking. I wonder why she doesn't just tell them to shut up, but then I remember she's from Amity and is way too kind to do that.

It takes five minutes for everyone to shut up and Johanna starts her speech…

"We are gathered here today to pick new leaders for the factions, and for the city. There will be two leaders for each faction, one must be a male, the other a female. These leaders shall meet every week for a meeting where they shall discuss things going on in the city and ways in which we can improve the quality of life for future generations. Every faction has to vote for the people they want to lead their faction and therefore lead the city. We will start with Abnegation, then we will move onto Erudite, then Candor, then Amity, and last, but not least, the Dauntless. The way we are going to do this is you are going to shout out some names of the people you want to lead your faction, then the candidates will come to the front, where I am right now, and your faction will vote, by writing who you want to lead your faction on a piece of paper and giving it to the person assigned to your faction. We will take about ten minutes to count the votes and the persons who shall be leaders will be revealed. However, if you don't want to lead and someone calls your name, don't come to the front. Are we clear?" Johanna explains.

Everyone in the room nods.

"Okay, so, we shall begin. Abnegation persons, please call out some names."

And they do.

The new leaders of Abnegation are Susan Black, my old friend and the person who thought I might have been pregnant in the first place, and some guy I don't know whose name is Thomas.

The leaders of Erudite are now Cara, who happens to be Will's older sister, and a man named Martin.

Jack Kang is still a leader of Candor, the other leader is a girl not much older than me called Rachel.

Johanna is still a leader of Amity, alongside Robert Black, my old friend and Susan's twin brother.

Now we are on to the Dauntless.

"Dauntless, please call out some names of people you would like to be leaders." Johanna says.

"Four!" Someone yells.

Tobias looks at me and smiles before standing and walking over to Johanna.

"Tris!" Someone else yells. The voice comes from Uriah.

I stand and walk to the centre of the room, taking Tobias' hand in mine.

"Tori!" Some random person yells.

Tori shakes her head, not walking over to us.

"Anyone else?" Johanna asks when there is a minute of silence.

The Dauntless shake their heads.

"Okay, so, Tris and Four, you are officially Dauntless leaders. Congratulations." Johanna says, smiling at us.

The Dauntless cheer and other people from other factions applaud as well.

When everything is calm again Johanna tells everyone to leave but says the leaders have to stay for a few more minutes.

Everyone starts to pile out of the room, the Abnegation waiting for everyone else to leave, as usual.

Us leaders are standing in the place where we were elected. Susan and Robert both hug me before we gather in a circle.

"Okay, so our first meeting is going to be next week. We will meet in the city council building, in the meeting room. If you don't know where the room is then ask the receptionist to show you. Tris, when are you due?" Johanna asks.

"In about seven weeks." I inform her.

"Okay, because of how heavily pregnant you are, you don't have to attend the meetings just yet, unless you want to. But, if you don't attend Four has to tell you everything that went on because he will have to attend. If you are a new leader you may not know that as a leader you get more things than any other person does. For starters you get paid more points, which comes in handy if you have a family to look after. You also get a bigger house, or apartment depending on what faction you live in, you also get a car, a key that unlocks any door in your faction, and some other things as well. We will go over those on our first meeting. Congratulations on all becoming leaders. You may go now. I will ring you all to set up a meeting. Have a good week." Johanna says.

Tobias and I are the first to leave.

I really want to get home.

We get outside of the building to find all of our friends/family outside waiting for us.

"Hello leaders." Zeke says.

"Hello Zeke. Let's go home." Tobias says.

We all climb into the truck we arrived in and head back to Dauntless. Amar's driving.

My mum is super happy, and everyone else is just excited to be friends with the new leaders.

Tobias and I decided whilst we were leaving that we will start work tomorrow. We will sort out jobs for the initiates that passed before the war started, we will go and look for our new apartment. There are like ten apartments for leaders and they're all empty so we get to pick any one we want. We will then get our friends to decorate a nursery for us, because they offered to a few days back. We will also go and check out the cars we can have, and sort out our offices.

When we arrive at our faction we decide to camp out in Tobias' and mine apartment for the night, watching movies and playing games, etc.

We have fun.

A lot more fun than we ever had during the war.

Hey Ravens.

I was wondering if you could all do me a favour and go read my story Love at Divergent High if you haven't already. I'm trying to get it to 400,000 reads by the time Insurgent comes out in the cinemas. March 19th that is. It's close but you have 26 days to get me to that many reads in order to get something in return. My later chapters has some things you can get for doing that in the AN's.

If you could help then thank you so much.

I will update as soon as I can.
