Chapter 35: So Midnight
"When we go in, let me do the talking, you informed me that Bellamy can be quite unruly and so I do not want a commotion. I want to handle this quickly and quietly, understand." said the experienced attorney.
"Yes of course, that's what we want too." Minato replied as he squeezed Kushina's hand.
"We just want our son to be officially ours." Kushina added.
"Well I can very much make that happen." The attorney replied confidently as he knocked firmly on the small rusty door.
"Come in, I'm not opening the f****** door for you scum and this better be quick." They heard Bellamy shout angrily in his rough voice.
"At least we can be relieved that he's here and seemingly ready to comply even if he is still foul." Minato muttered reassuringly to Kushina and Naruto as he entered in through the house.
"This nightmare is finally coming to an end" Kushina whispered to Naruto as she held his little hand and slowly walked in after Minato and the attorney.
Only twenty minutes later, the four of them walked out of that wrecked and tiny house, home to a dark, bitter monster, with relieved faces. And three of the four of them, felt as if the stars had all aligned and everything was finally right in the world. It was over, it was finally over.
As they walked towards the car, Naruto between his mum and dad holding their warm and steady hands, he couldn't stop smiling. "We're a family now" he said gleefully as he looked up at their smiling faces.
"That we are" Kushina said lightly as she signaled to Minato before they both swung Naruto off the ground making him squeal with laughter as they used their arms as swings.
Once they got to their cars, Minato and Kushina thanked the attorney profusely and Naruto even hugged him before they went their separate ways. The attorney back to his office and the other three on their way home.
"Is this really alright" Kushina whispered to Minato after Naruto was in the back seat and out of earshot. "Not turning Bellamy in for hurting Naruto."
"We made a deal and it was the only deal that would've worked, I think we have to keep our word and leave it at this. We're free and we're happy, he's behind us now if we call the police and testify for Bellamy's abuse of Naruto, they're obviously going to drag Naruto into this and he just wants this to be all over. Plus who knows what can of worms it could potentially open. I know how much you despise him and we all do but if making him pay has to compensate for some of our immediate happiness and security then it's not worth it. Anyway I have no doubt in mind that someday he'll have to pay handsomely for all his sins."
"You're right" Kushina murmured, "...But Kinoshita is a different story, he doesn't have anything on us anymore and I don't want him around any of us. If we can make him pay we should. I want to press charges for assault."
"Domestic and sexual assault?" he asked.
Kushina nodded her head. "And I want a restraining order, I don't want him anywhere near Naruto or myself, or you for that matter, though I know you can handle him if need be."
" I don't know much about law, but this could become a lengthy trial and once we tell the police we can't go back, and you know he's going to tell them about you taking in Naruto."
"I know but we warned Bellamy, it was one of our conditions that if asked then he would say that he sent Naruto over to us for a while to try sort out some things. I don't think he'll break it not after how much we have on him and how much you scared him about the police."
Minato smirked almost evilly, as he coolly said, "Alright, well let's send that bastard to prison, God knows he deserves it."
"I'll go to the police station tomorrow morning and hand in my statement."
"I think it's best to wait till we find you a good lawyer, just to be sure, so let's sort it all out over the weekend." Minato said decidedly.
Kushina nodded her head, before she leant into him and lifted her head up to kiss him.
He smiled and kissed her back eagerly, "What was that for" he whispered after slowly pulling away from her lips.
"For always having my back" she answered as she lifted her hand up and tenderly touched his soft blond hair. He smiled and kissed her on the cheek before opening the passenger side door for her and walking over to the driver's seat.
"Mummy" Naruto whined, "You and daddy took forever out there, what were you talking about?"
"Kushina turned around and smiled at Naruto as she said, "Don't worry about it, we'll tell you later". Naruto pouted not liking being left out of the loop, then mumbled, "I saw you two kissing...again"
Both Kushina and Minato chuckled as she said, "Well we love each other".
"Someday, when you're big and grown, you'll kiss a girl like that Naruto" Minato added.
"Eww never" Naruto squealed making another face.
"Do you like any girls in your school?" Minato asked, as he started up the car and began to drive.
Naruto blushed a deep red and mumbled "Of course not".
"Did you know he got a love letter from a girl in his class?" Kushina said to Minato causing Naruto to blush even more.
"Really, from who? Naruto you have to show me the little girl next time I drop you off to school" said Minato.
"I don't even know who?" Naruto exclaimed, sighing in embarrassment.
"I know who" Kushina said smirking.
"You do?" Naruto asked surprised, "Who? How?" he asked urgently.
"I told you how, I just looked around, observed and spotted her."
"Who?"
"If you can't figure it out now, then wait till you do" She replied lightly.
"Mum" Naruto moaned.
"Don't torture the poor boy Kushina, spill" said Minato who was equally intrigued.
Kushina just shook her head and said, "Its better this way, better if he realizes on his own. Anyway I was thinking to pick up some ramen from Ichiraku on the way back for lunch."
"Yay" Naruto shouted, already forgetting to further pester his mother about the girl.
Minato just shook his head and playfully whispered to Kushina, "You're horrible, changing the subject like that so he wouldn't bother you."
Kushina just laughed as she whispered back "Don't worry I'll show you the girl next time we drop him off to school".
"Deal" Minato replied smiling.
Pouring into his house an hour and a half later with 3 cups of the best Ramen in town they took off their shoes and then sat down at the table and began happily slurping their steaming hot noodles.
"Now this should be the last time, I have to heal you up because somebody that wasn't supposed to hurt you." Minato said, as he sat down on the sofa, and took out his medical supplies wanting to check out Naruto's bruises.
"I'm not too sure about that" Naruto said smirking.
"And why is that?" Kushina asked surprised by his reaction, as she popped her head out of the Kitchen, leaning against the door frame.
"I'm a boy, it's only a matter of time before I get into my first fight at school" he said arrogantly, a cheeky grin on his face.
"Naruto" she said in the voice all mothers use when scolding their children "You are NOT getting into any school fights" she said frowning. Looking towards Minato, to add something to her scolding, she caught him trying to suppress his laughter, so her frown turned into a glare which she directed at him.
"Don't worry Mummy, either way Daddy's right, this is the last time I'll need to be bandaged up, because they won't even be able to get a hit in" he said arrogantly.
"Who's they? Have people started messing around with you?" Kushina asked, her mind already starting to worry.
"No, i'm friends with everyone" he said matter of factly, "but one day I'm sure, I'll find an enemy".
Kushina shook her head in annoyance as Minato said "It sounds like you want to get into a fight?"
"Well, it's not that I want to hurt anyone, I just want people to know that I'm strong too, it's not just Sasuke and Rock Lee and Neji. But don't worry I'm not a meanie, I won't be picking for fights, just when they come I'll be ready."
"Naruto" Kushina said sharply "You are eight years old, you are not supposed to be thinking of fights. And if I find out you have gotten into a fight, you won't only have to deal with your opponent but me, when you get home and don't think for a second I'll go easy on you. Understand?"
Naruto, nodded his head adamantly as he said in a whiney voice "Yes Mummy"
"Good I'm glad that's settled" she muttered, as she shook her head slightly and thought to herself, who was she kidding, she would definitely go easy on him, she was surprised she could even pull off that tone.
"She really is scary sometimes" Naruto whispered jokingly to Minato, perching up on the seat to lean into his ear.
"I can hear you" Kushina murmured.
"I know it's because when she was younger, your mummy used to get into a lot of school fights" Minato whispered back to Naruto.
"Minato don't tell him that, not right after I told him not to fight" she said scowling, though unsuccessfully being able to hold it long.
"Oh, come on lighten up" he said smiling charmingly, "It's not like it's not true".
"Really?" Naruto said in surprise as he started to giggle, "She could even beat up the boys."
"Wow, impressive Mummy" Naruto said appraisingly, looking up at Kushina with a cheeky grin.
Shaking her head, she decided to play along as she walked towards them, her hands clenched before playfully punching Minato in the stomach, her first barely grazing his stomach for she was unsure of where he was still hurt from his fight with Bellamy.
"A bit like that" she said haughtily, as he feigned pain, holding his stomach before pulling her down so she toppled over on his lap.
"Did daddy get into any school fights?" Naruto asked excitedly.
"I doubt it, he was probably too much of a goody two shoes in school" she said jokingly.
"HEY! I was more than just that" he said humorously.
"So did you then?" Naruto asked an amused expression on his face.
"No" he said quietly shaking his head.
"See, Mummy's always right" Kushina said as Naruto and herself roared with laughter.
Minato trying to break up their laughter shouted, "I fought through my academic work" but it only made them laugh harder when Naruto called him a smarty pants.
"Hey, hey, that's enough now" he said light heartedly, smiling at how happy everyone was. It was nice to unwind with them and to see Kushina and Naruto being so carefree. They'd been through a lot and to see them laughing and smiling and joking around so jovially warmed his heart.
Kushina trying to suppress her laughter put her hands on his shoulders as she said, "Don't worry, we still love you"
"I know" he replied smiling as he pulled her in for a hug and gave her a quick kiss on the lips.
"How did you get so strong then, daddy" Naruto asked eagerly.
Minato chuckled, "Well, I was always pretty strong I just never really fought in school."
"So that was your first fight?"
"Hmm not really, I guess I got into quite a few bar fights when I was in Uni"
"Why?" Naruto further asked
Minato shrugged his shoulders then casually said, "I didn't like the way some of the drunken men were treating the women, so I called them out on it and they got aggressive."
"I bet the women loved you" Kushina murmured.
Minato shrugged his shoulders, "I had my fair share of admirers"
"Anything serious?" Kushina asked curiously wanting to know more about his past relationships, because thinking about it, he knew more about her horrible one, then she knew about any of his past ones.
"Two" Minato responded slowly, as he looked towards her, "I had two major relationships that I thought were serious but clearly they didn't work out. The first one, my first love, I met her in my first year of university and we hit it off. Things were going well but then she got asked to transfer to the Hidden Sand Village University because they had a special program to further enhance her knowledge. It was a big opportunity for her and so she left. We tried doing the whole long distance thing but she broke it off months after she got there."
"Why?" Naruto asked, his kiddy curiousity, once again coming through.
Minato looked at Naruto and blinked in surprise, he'd forgotten he was still there, "Here" he said handing him his smartphone as a distraction, "I got a new game, try it out in my room and tell me if it's any good".
Naruto nodded his head and eagerly ran to the room with the phone.
Turning his attention back to Kushina he carried on and said, " Then a while later I had my second serious relationship but the girl I was with was really insecure and after a while she began to lose trust in me. She didn't trust me to be faithful to her with my fair share of admirers, so that led to nothing good and eventually we broke up."
Taking Kushina's hand, he softly said, "It hurt, both my failed relationships, it felt like the world was against me. I could make friends by the wave of a hand but love; I couldn't find it and keep it to save a life. But now I understand, it wasn't meant to be because, they simply weren't the right ones, you're the right one Kushina, you're my true love."
"How do you know?" She asked quietly, a sad tone to her voice as she revealed her deepest worry, "I desperately hope I am and I feel like you're mine but I...but when you're in a relationship, you always think this is real, this is for life, until...it's just not anymore, what if I'm just another stepping stone like they were to your real one true love?"
Minato shook his head drawing his hand to her face, where he cupped his hand around the side of her face, "Is this what you worry about" he asked tenderly, looking searchingly into her eyes. Casting her gaze downward, he tilted her head back up, so that she could read into his earnest eyes as he assuredly said, "This one's different, I can feel it deep within, my love for you is stronger than anything I've ever felt." Feeling her red locks brush against his hand, he lifted his hand from her face and gently weaved it through her beautiful red hair, loving the smooth feel of it between his fingers, as he continued by resolutely saying, " Kushina you're the love of my life, so don't start getting insecure about this, okay? If you want this believe in it."
"I do believe" she uttered, her voice soft and warm but resolute, "I believe in you, sometimes even more than I believe in myself. I..." pausing as if trying to gather her thoughts, she softly said, "I don't mean to worry, not when I whole-heartedly feel like you're the one true love of my life, but I..."
"It's alright Kushina" Minato interrupted endearingly, putting her out of the struggle she had from conveying her feelings to the words he felt he knew. "I understand" he assured her, "It's natural to worry, especially after what you went through."
Kushina looked at him gratefully, lifting her hand towards his handsome face, where she caressed it gently, "It's not fair" she murmured, "that you have such a way with words."
Minato smiled at her warmly as he contently said, "You admitted that I'm the one true love of your life, what else did I really need to hear after those beautiful words."
Kushina smiled back at him and he leant into her slowly moving his lips towards hers.
Kushinas breath caught in her throat and she moved closer to him, allowing his sweet tongue entry into her eager mouth for an ardent kiss.
Chest upon chest, face upon face, they kissed passionately, a fervent bliss loosening their control.
Stopping to gasp for air, she looked at him adoringly feeling a strong sense of exhilaration stir throughout her body but she shook her head slightly, managing to regain some of her control as she whispered, panting softly, "We have to stop, Naruto's in your room".
Minato half smiled, half smirked as he, alluringly said, "We're just kissing"
"You're hands under my shirt" she retorted in her loving voice, with a shy little smile on her face.
"I wonder how it got there" he murmured with a teasing look in his enchanting blue eyes as he leaned into her once more and placed another kiss on her lips, which despite her previous objections, she couldn't help reciprocating.
When he did pull away, he moved his lips to her ears and invitingly whispered, "We can finish this at midnight"
Kushina blushed, her face flushing with red, "You're still hurt, on the sofa with Naruto, I saw you wince when you pulled me down on your lap"
"Heal me with your kisses" he murmured seductively.
"Minato" she hummed, as she lifted her hand to his hair, weaving her fingers through his spiky but surprisingly soft blond strands, before bringing them back down.
"Come on it's not like, you want to go rough on me" he said teasingly raising his eyebrows suggestively... "Unless..."
"I don't" She uttered quickly, her face turning the color of her hair, as she looked at him crossly or as crossly as she could, when he was so close to her, maddening her senses and desire from the love she felt from him.
"I was joking" he said lightly, as he chuckled at her anticipated reaction before kissing her on the cheek as compensation for teasing her.
"I love you" he whispered into her ear, his lips grazing against them, ever so slightly before he drew away, looking into her adoring eyes.
Kushina's lips curled up in to a radiant smile, and she bashfully murmured, "So midnight?"
