Communique for James Kirk and Leonard McCoy from Spock.
Greetings.
My duties continue to go well, I am currently assisting in an experiment to improve terraforming techniques, an important work on a planet such as Mars.
I am going to leave in forty-one minutes-most likely thirty-nine minutes by the time I finishing writing this-to eat dinner with Christine Chapel and her family. Her father is an architect and I do not believe her mother has a career.
I am more aware of my differences as a Vulcan here than at the Academy. I cannot draw a conclusion as to why that is. However, my emotional control has held, which is what is important in this situation.
Peace and Long Life.

"Cadet?" Bones turned around and faced Doctor Braith.
"Yes, Doctor?"
"You've been here nearly a month now, and there is something I wanted to discuss." she said.
"Am I doing something wrong?"
"Absolutely not! It's just, I was told when you were assigned here I could use you as a nurse. And I'm sure you've noticed I haven't. I wanted to see how you worked before I did. And Leonard, I am very pleased with you."
"Thanks." said McCoy.
"I have a surgery scheduled for this afternoon. I need a surgery assistant yet. Up for it, Cadet?"
"Yes!" said Bones. "Yes, absolutely!"
"Excellent." Dr. Braith smiled. "I'm taking my lunch break. Re-direct emergencies to Doctor Sukar. I'll see you later!" She left. Bones sat down in a chair next to a bio bed and started going through the schedule for the next week. He knew he should be happier about finally getting to do what he wanted. But he was still thinking about Emony.
He hadn't talk to-or seen-her again. But he kept thinking about her. But what could he say to her? She was a very beautiful, sweet, alien gymnast. And he was just him.
"Hey, Leonard. Someone's here to talk to you." said one the nurses. He stood up and walked to the doorway. Standing there was a certain Trill.
"Miss Dax." he stuttered.
"Emony, please." she said. "I was trying to find you I was told you worked here. Nice place."
"Yeah, Yeah. It's pretty cool." silence. Emony sighed.
"Listen. I wanted to see you. And I guess it was kind of silly to come down here to. But this evening maybe we could, I don't know, just hang out, talk?"
"There's this diner, it's pretty close to here, we could..."
"Meet me at my apartment, soon as you can! Bye, Leonard!" she said.
"Wait!" he said as she began to walk away. "How old are you?" the question had just popped into his head.
"Twenty-nine, you?"
"Twenty-two." he said. Seven years difference? Really?
"I date a guy fifteen years older than me." said Emony, as if she could read his mind. "see you tonight!"
"Bye." stuttered Bones as she left. One of the nurses walked past behind him.
"If you want to help with a surgery today, get your head out the clouds. Besides. she's Trill."
"So?" he asked. The nurse rolled her eyes.
"You'll find out."
Communique from James Kirk for Spock.
Hi!
Spock, you're not being bullied are you? You better not be. If someone picking on you, you better tell them to take their bad attitude and shove it! But with stronger language. (That's what I'd do)
You won't get this until you're back from Christine's which means I want a full report! It a big thing if she invited you to her house. You need to be polite to her parents, her sister, eat the food, tell her mom or whoever cooked it you enjoyed it, basically you have to be a total gentleman if you want a chance with the girl. (Which I think you do, underneath all your 'no emotion' stuff.)
My life here is amazing! I have friends, I like my duties, AND I WORK ON THE BRIDGE! (at least, for now.) I need to go, I was going to play some tri-D chess with Neeraz before I go back on duty.
James T. Kirk
A teenage girl with neon green streaks in her straight blonde hair answered the door at the Chapel's.
"Christine! Your guest is here!" she yelled, and then invited Spock in.
"I'm Diana." she said.
"I am Spock." he said.
"Yeah, I know. There you are, Christine!" Spock looked over toward the nearby stairwell going up and Christine was coming down.
She was wearing a knee-length light grey skirt and a deep red shirt. her hair pulled back in a loose ponytail. Spock had rarely seen her out of her blue uniform, and never without her hair pulled up.
"Hello, Spock." said Christine.
"Wait," said Diana. "You spent the last hour telling me 'this is NOT a date.' and then dress up? Mixed messages much?"
"Diana!" said Christine. She was blushing, a physical response to embarrassment, Spock recalled. He wondered if he should say something.
He didn't get the chance as Mr. and Mrs. Chapel entered the room.
"Hello." said Mr. Chapel. "I'm David, and this is my wife, Anne."
"Hello. It's wonderful to finally meet you, Spock." said Mrs. Chapel, brightly. She extended her hand to shake Spock's.
"Mom, Vulcans don't shake hands." said Christine.
"It's fine, Christine." said Spock. Spock shook Mrs. Chapel's hand.
"Well, dinner is almost ready, I think we can all sit down." Mrs. Chapel lead the way into the dining room.
Dinner went well. Christine's mother turned out to have been a historian before she had children. And she was very interested in Vulcan. Mr. Chapel was also an intelligent person and Spock found it easy to talk to him.
Diana, Spock decided, was an average human adolescent. She seemed bored of the conversation, and did not socialize much with any of them very much at all. Until she quite suddenly asked.
"Do Vulcan kids play?"
"Excuse me?" asked Spock.
"Do Vulcan kids play and have fun and stuff like that? Or are they more, you know, like you?"
"Most Vulcan children have full emotional control by the age of seven. So Vulcan children do not 'play'. At least not as human children do."
"Sounds boring." replied Diana.
"Boredom is a state of mind I cannot experience." Christine jumped in and changed the conversation. Spock was grateful for it. What he hadn't told Diana was that 'Most Vulcan children' did not include him. But that was something he did not wish to talk about.
Soon it was time for Spock and Christine to return to the base.
"Thank you for hosting me." said Spock, using the human manners he had learned.
"It was our pleasure." said Mrs. Chapel. "You're welcome any time."
"Bye, dad. Bye mom." Christine hugged both her parents. "Bye Diana."
"Bye, Christine. See you, Spock." replied the younger Chapel daughter.
Spock and Christine walked back to the base, and Spock walked Christine to her room.
"Thanks for coming tonight." said Christine. "It was nice."
"I found the experience to be, interesting." Christine smiled.
"Great! I was worried you wouldn't like my parents. Or my sister, but she can be hard to get along with." Christine back into the doorway. "Goodnight, sleep well."
"Goodnight, Christine." said Spock. She kissed him on the cheek and quickly retreated into her room, the door closing firmly behind her.
Spock lifted a hand to his cheek. This had been and enjoyable evening.
Next chapter will be Bones' date! And just in case anyone is confused, Emony Dax is not an OC. She is talked about in the Deep Space Nine episode, 'Trials and Tribble-ations ' by Jadzia Dax. Have a nice day! remember to review!
